Admittedly because of the era it has Cold War overtones, but IMO this just adds to the whole mood, very thought provoking. 'Course, in the remake the computer will be represented by the holographic image of a little girl, or something, and they'll kill it with a virus delivered by a science hunk...

I remember Colossus from TV back in the day. At the time it was ace. I loved it when it ordered the CIA to assasiante certain world figures. I'm sure it looks dated now though. I also remember Demon Seed which was a great nasty AI movie. Most AI gone bad movies suck but the core concept is not only a great one but a very real far future threat. I hope they can do a great job of it.

My god, it's just a series of interviews; it made a fascinating dramatic reconstruction on film, with Michael Sheen a great David Frost but...a FILM. Ron Howard; sucking the interest out of movies since 1980.

The three Colossus novels are awesome and deserve at least one blockbuster treatment. Even The Forbin Project, which deviates some from the book, is great source material.

In fact, it's NOTHING like Terminator - at least the movie version. I saw this at the University of Texas Union Theater back in 1982 and it blew me away. Saw it recently and it still has the same impact - even more so considering the year it was made. I met Eric Braeden while working at the Four Seasons in Austin in 1989 and he was astonished and proud when I mentioned this movie and agreed it was well ahead of its time. DOES NOT NEED TO BE REMADE!!

They've already done this with Skynet in The Terminator films! The whole concept of humans turning the control and release of nuclear weapons over to a computer is absolutely laughable in the 21st century. Now, if you set this film in the original period around the mid-to-late 1960's or Early 70's...when people thought computers actually COULD run everything...now THAT could be an interesting remake. Get Richard Dreyfuss to be Forbin. And, yes, the original is quite chilling. Very "Twilight Zone", in a good way.

Either way, haven't these ideas been done to death over the last 35+ years on every damn episode of Six Million Dollar Man and every unwatchable Sci Fi Channel produced feature? And besides... it's Opie! Opie... the guy who actually managed to make the Da Vinci Code seem boring! And more besides.... I thought for a second it was gonna be about the Russkie metal dude from the X-Men!

This movie was pretty good. In fact, Terminator did borrow much from Colossus. It is important to note that there were TWO computers in the movie; the U.S. version and a Soviet version. They link up and build their own "SkyNet", but mostly for "benevolent" reasons. This, they kinda lifted from "With Folded Hands" by Williamson. THAT would be a good story for the screen, but I digress. Colossus, and the two sequels, were pretty good sci-fi. I still have all 3 in my library and they've stood up pretty well. I'd like to see a good remake with Howard.

Doesn't matter when, or even if, Opie makes this movie because it will not feature any blacks, be they African-American or other flavor. I'm white, but just watch any of Opies movies and ask yourself, where are the blacks? (except for a black dad and his kid walking down the street in the animated 'Curious George') But maybe this would change if the computer had a voice by, oh I dunno Lawrence Fishburne or somebody. Oh wait... And besides, stuff like this can't happen anymore. Not with Norton AntiVirus from Symtec

I remember the original. A nice little Cold War sci-fi film. How they could change it for today..who knows. The sequels to THE FORBIN PROJECT are the real action, if anyone has read them.

Btw I'm such a geek for this flick I have the original theater banner from the 70's release. For those who haven't seen it Braedens'got this Bond like swagger to 'im. Rent it if you can.

I just rented it two weeks ago. Hadn't seen it in about 10 years. I think it still holds up very well and would love to see an update/sequel. A must-rent for any serious geek. I thought that there was talk a few years ago about SciFi Channel doing a miniseries on it, incorporating all three books. Must've fallen through. Probably for the better...

Colossus was a great film... a true gem that only the few proud scifi geeks remember. The ending of the film is powerful and had a great impact on me when I was a kid. I am normally against remakes (strongly) but the weakest part of the original Colossus movie was the hokie early 70's understanding of computers. Set in today's modern computer and surveillance age, the story can be done so well... in the right hands. The only thing missing is the Cold War sensibilities of the first, but that can be worked around. There can still be a "Guardian" computer in Russia, not the Soviet Union. ...."This is the Voice of word control... in time you will come to love me."

Is the one they should make a movie of. Considering that 16K of RAM was "state of the art" when it was written, it's amazing how well that book holds up. (By Thomas J. Ryan, who never wrote another goddamn thing. I swear he must have been one of Michael Crichton's pseudonyms. The problem is that P-1 is written too well -- better than any Crichton book except THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY.)

The DaVinci Code sequel is actually a prequel, and the title is Angels and Demons the first book of the Robert Langdon series.... In my opinion it is a much better read. Tons more thrilling than DaVinci code. Its definately a race against the clock thriller. I thought the DaVinci code movie was blah. however, i really enjoyed Hanks performance, but Howard should have attacked the controversy head on. I am looking foward to the Angels and Demons movie.
