You know, Jack must have found true love this time because he hasn't gone through this much trouble for any other woman. Seriously, calling in a favor from the President to save Audrey seems a bit much. Besides, his SIL is much hotter. Much like Kari Matchett. Man, I loved her in the Nero Wolfe series they did a few years back.

I admit, a couple weeks back, in a moment of darkness and apathy at the retched shell of a series that this show had become, i also read the spoilers. But as of last week, 24 is BACK!!! This season was awesome. It threatened to be a bit repetitive with the VP taking over and the possible mole but then it threw enough curve balls to save it. And there weren't any major filler subplots like Kim getting caught in a cougar trap while being tarred and feathered.

If you didn't like this season then you just don't like the show anymore and you don't need to be here.

24 Jumps the Shark every season...
by howardroark
Apr 16th, 2007
10:12:58 AM
Every starts off always promising and usually by the 5th or 6th hour, some incredible leap of logic causes the whole season to go wacko. For me, this season would have to be his dad killing his brother after revealing that they killed President Palmer. Speaking of which, when is Cromwell returning to reveal that Jack is adopted?
Dustin Diamond
by roundhoward
Apr 16th, 2007
10:17:49 AM
My relationship with 24 now is much like my relationship with Dustin Diamond. I like to think back on my early mornings before school, watching Saved by the Bell reruns with a bowl of cereal and a twinkle in my eye. But ever since seeing Dustin Diamond do his stand-up (no pun intended) I can never look at Screech again... the man has taken a vile donkey crap all over my heart. For me, 24 has been similarly shat upon. I will always cherish the first three seasons, but the producers/writers/everyone of this show have collectively quadruple ass-banged this show so far beyond recognition that I can barely remember why I watched in the first place. Someone just tell me what the fuck happened to Charles Logan and I might be quasi-satisfied. The good news is Heroes comes back next week.

How was day 4 and 5 worse than 3?
by I Dunno
Apr 16th, 2007
10:25:01 AM
Even day 1 had its goofy parts with Terri getting amnesia and Kim getting caught and released every hour. In day 3, everything before getting back from Mexico was useless. Anyway, I think they're all great but none of them are flawless and the earlier ones aren't that much better than the later ones.

You know what. I've kept my mouth shut so far but Season 3 was just as good as the others and it gets constantly and unfairly trashed by some TB'ers all the time. And who are they? Fucking pussies who bailed on Season 3 right when it was starting to kick ass and now they're panties are in a bunch. Well I say FUCK YOU. Aside from a 10 episode arc with Jack down in Mexico it was a brilliant season that gave some classic 24 moments. The stuff with the hotel outbreak was top notch. And at least with the Mexico shit they tried something DIFFERENT. Hell I thought it was pretty good myself. Hell the beginning of that storyline had Jack being a fugitive from CTU and actually ROBBING A FUCKING GAS STATION! I would actually rank Season 3 as one of the best.

Come one people. I don't care how sick you are of 24, or how "far fetched" you think the show has gotten. But all this talk about Season 3 being crap or newest season being crap is stupid. Are you forgetting Season 2? Kim got caught in a bear trap and chased by a cougar only to end up trapped by some pervert in a bomb shelter! COME ON! If you all hate 24 so much and think season 3 or the new seasons such, go back and watch season 2 again. 24 has been quite consistent in quality since the begining and while I would like to see some of the kinks ironed out (more realistic real time, stop dropping story lines, etc) it is stupid to mistake your nostalgia with reality.

I hate that I can't come to the 24 TB until after the show, something I have been doing for years, because we get these beat-by-beat spoilers which a retarded TB will post about or hint at so unsubtly that it is impossible not to see what they were hinting at. So instead I post blind and return later... I'd like to again point out this means less refreshes and less post and less page views, and if Herc wasn't joking before, less money for him... Part of what's cool about the show is that they don't show every detail and spell everything out. They follow the main characters and events and when characters go out of the main story, it's over. Move on. That's how the show is shot.

My money's on Phillip returning. Maybe he's even in cahoots with Cheng. At this time, it's anyone's guess. All I know is that Cheng had better have a pretty fucked up death by Jack's hands this season. As much as I loved Fayed's demise, I'm disappointed somewhat that arguably Jack's weakest nemesis got the series coolest death scene. SHOULDA BEEN MARWAN!

I don't understand all the fuss that's been going on over this season. It's been pretty crazy, and the return of the Audrey/China plot is the first step in the right direction (the producers have made a habit of conveniently ignoring plot lines.. which they have unfortunately continued in this season). For me, Seasons 2 and 5 have been weakest - season 2 was great for the first 14 episodes, then the nuke went off and we had to sit through 8 hours of Jack looking for a fricking mp3. And I know season 5 won the Emmy and everyone loves it, but they killed so many characters with so little fanfare or logic, it almost felt nihilistic. This season has mostly had a terrific balance of the political maneuverings in the White House (more interesting and believable this year than for some time) with great action and a decent terrorist plot. And now that the plot has been resolved, they're flying without a parachute in this Audrey-rescue territory, which is great to me. In conclusion, I don't think any season has come close to matching the bliss of season 1, but 3,4, and 6 have all been very good in my opinion.

Lennox and Palmer are freakin' morons for not having the Vice President arrested or at least telling a few people about him immediately. You could tell from last week's previews that he was going to end up back in control when Palmer collapsed. All he has to do is have Lennox killed and he's home free. Haven't any of these characters seen the previous seasons?! When you have an advantage like that tape you use it before something happens. On a side note, REDD's "facts about Jack Bauer" is officially the funniest post yet.

I like Heroes. It's a nice show with a good theme for these times. However, let's stop fucking lying here. Let's stop denying the truth. Heroes is nothing more than a hodge-podge of countless other properties that the writers are picking and choosing from to make an interesting story. Not like Lucas did not use his a similar strategy with Star Wars. However, Heroes, obviously has a shelf-life. If they do not get their asses in gear and make something happen. Nevertheless, 24, still features the only HERO in that time slot.

Because she is basically the only one who went out of her way for Jack. Because when does the U.S. ever, and I mean ever, do anything for Jack? Damned right. One wife dead, an estranged daughter, a girlfriend in China, a year of faked death (NOT federal protection plan, neither), numerous injuries and a year and a half of no BS torture at the hands of the Chinese. And at the end of THAT the only reason they bring him back is so that some jerkwad can have the pleasure of seeing him die. ANd I'm sure I'm forgetting a whole mess of other stuff. My solution for next season. Jack is PRIME material for brainwashing. It shouldn't take much to convince that his country is just using him with no real care for him. Next season, Jack turns to the dark side and is devoted to the downfall of America. The Cult 'O Jack will allow him to do just about anything: Chloe would lay down her life for the guy and CTU is still trying to make excuses for him with the exception of Special Agent Silver Spoons. He comes up with reasons why he has to kill key members of congress, then Buchannan, and finally sets off a nuke in the capital building after being pursued by Doyle. Now. Where's my million bucks?

I don't know why I thought of that. I might quit after this episode. Too stupid. Palmer's retarded for giving the VP a grace period. And for giving Jack the go-ahead on possibly handing over the trigger mech. And for offering to do anything *except* giving them the trigger mech in order to save Audrey. She's just one person, and unimportant. The govt didn't go after Jack and he saved the country. 4 times. Why's she more important. It's retarded that Audrey didn't tell Jack to stay the fuck away. It's retarded that mega-patriotic Jack would put his country at risk for a girl. This show's a big bowl of stupid. I quit. For real, this time. Seriously.
How would the Russians know?
by _Maltheus_
Apr 17th, 2007
10:51:20 AM
The all make it out as if the Russians would obviously know who gave the Chinese the part. It's not like the Chinese are gonna taunt the Russians with the knowledge or start a war over it. The Americans certainly won't tell. And if the knowledge ever came out that the Chinese had the circuit board, it would be a lot easier to assume your stockpile isn't secure. If the Russians ultimately find out the Americans were behind it, we then that's what they get for their role in a nuclear detonation. You know, we use to have this thing called the cold war where secrets like this leaked out all the time and didn't lead to a hot war. And having this technology shouldn't compromise their encrypted stuff in any manner. Still, I like this season a lot better now. It's that time of season where everything gets kicked up into overdrive. As predictable as the 24 mole.

...to the ranks of 24 viewers. I just caught up on all of the seasons this past winter.

I can say having watched them all in order, at my own pace, that season 3 stands out as the best by far. It had all the big pay-offs, especially Jack killing Nina in the same room where she had killed his wife; and that chopper getting blown away by the Marine fighters was really cool, too.

Since then they really haven't come up with CTU personnel who resonate as well as Tony and Michelle did. I do think Mary Lynn Rajskub does a good job as Chloe, but she's more of a support character than a main focus; and from an acting stand point getting rid of Elisha Cuthbert had to be done... loss of eye-candy not withstanding.

I've liked seasons 4,5,& 6 to a degree; but not as much as season 3. That was the last time the show had a true cinematic look and feel to it.

They attempted to answer the "Why couldn't Smokie go over the fence?" question but they didn't really. Just proposed that it can't leave the ground comletely or some bullshit. Seriously, the guy is terrible, and isn't the least believable as the Prez. He gets out-acted in every scene by everyone. Powers Boothe is great. He should have been the Prez from the beginning.
Powers Boothe should run CTU

This year ends with Lennox using his tape for leverage to promote himself to President and renames the post to "Lord Vigo". He appoints Powers Boothe to run CTU and get back to hunting down followers of Islam instead of chasing those pesky Russkies and Chinese diplomats Seriously folks Powers is so much better at prezzing than DB Woodside is even at his balls-out moments that they should - nay MUST - keep him in the WHite house for next year.

Please forgive me for being a maniacal asshole. My "Guai Lo is the shit, Moriarty's opinion is shit" post on the Halloween trailer thread was disgusting, and inappropriate, to say the least. I should be banned from this site. Seriously. Anyway, take this post for what it's worth.

...the only problem is that they all occur inside the first four hours or the last two of this season. The stuff in between was painful.

...but the gas station scene is from (underrated) season 4, not 3. I'm a big fan of 3 but a bigger fan of 4, which it seems just as popular to criticize.
The problem with Season 3 is that...

the writers outright cheated the audience and in so doing invalidated the entire initial storyline and broke one of the cardinal rules of writing. It is a pity because Season 3 had some great moments, the hotel sequences is one of the best in 24 history, and Chapelle's ending was so powerful.

Also, I am on the season 4 is underated bandwagon. For all its flaws, it absolutely bombed along at top speed, and you got no chance to get annoyed at a storyline before it had gone and be replaced. Plus I loved Marwan, nobody escaped better than him. Plus blowing Airforce One out of the sky was a great moment, and the reapperance of Tony was perhaps the most jump out of your seat and shout moment in the shows history.

The Govt OWES Bauer Big Time

I liked this episode. I always wondered why the government pissed on Jack Bauer even after he saved the country numerous times (perhaps a veteran could relate!) But I liked how Jack called the President out on this ridiculousness. Buchanan screwed Jack over. The President did the same. Only Audrie took some initiative. Jack appreciates that....

I've always thought 24 has improved with every season up to season 4 then its sort of been coasting at an even keel of super awesome. I must admit this season did dip - and has stretched plausibility to a new 24 high - but now we have a rogue Bauer, the Jack Sack and Powers back in the president chair we are all systems go!!!
For The Record, About Season 4

Season 4 (flawed as it may be with Marwans ridiculous back up plans....) was a lot better than Season 3's Mexican Hijinks. It was RIDICUOLOUS that Tony and Jack were behind the scenes orchestrating Terror attacks, just to move the country into action. So stupid....there was however some great bits toward the end. The helicopter destroying the building, Michelle being hot. yeah, that was the good stuff
OK, the season breakdowns...

Nobody asked for it, so here is my opinion, and it is just my opinion, even if I am always right...

Season One : Probably the best in terms of writing. It was, by every other season's standards, intimate and small, stuff like the mole and the very ending, which became 24 hallmarks, were breathtaking when they were new. Also it had a great underlying theme, it was about two men doing difficult jobs, even though those jobs were endangering their families. There was a great juxtaposing of Palmer and Bauer in that season. Also, real time actually meant something, it was used as a plot device, and worked brilliantly.

Season Two : Season two was season one on steroids, everything was bigger and more spectacular, the trade off was in realism. Also, in season one a large part of the story was his daughter being in danger. The reason Kim was in danger was that she had the last name Bauer, it was all tied in. In season two, Kim was in danger just because she couldn't go twenty minutes without stumbling into a life threating situation.

Season Three : 24 was brave enough to try and break the mold with this season, Jack got a partner, we got a different type of threat, and things looked and felt different. As I said though, the whole "hey that stuff you just watched and cared about, well that was all crap that meant nothing...", lost the season a heap of goodwill, and made it for me the weakest season at the time

Season Four : I like season four, it went back to basics, turned everything up to 11 and just flew on the seat of its pants. It also managed to make the return of former regulars seem like the most amazing thing ever. It didn't quite reach the heights of 1&2, but we were back on the right track, and it had my favorite ending of any season. Boy did that open up a new direction for the show to go...

Season Five : The great new direction was jettisoned and anyone we cared about was killed and we got another season, only not as good as before. What saved 5 from being terrible was an insane plot twist that worked because Gregory Itzin is such an amazing actor. Making the president the bad guy was brilliant, but it should have been unworkable, but Itzen made it work.

Season Six : Six has been a very poor season all around. The Chinese potential was jettisoned, as everyone knew it would be, we got an amazing opening 4 episodes, but after that we got lamer versions of old stories, with less interesing characters, and a line of believability crossed that had never happened before. Sure we could buy it when jack and CTU or even the President and his staff did insane things, but the idea that shortly after a nuclear bomb went off, people about 15 minutes drive away would be playing tennis or that shops would be open, or that people would be bumbling around doing normal things was insane, and proved how far the writers had gone from the reality level of season one. For the first time in my history of watching 24 I actually felt it was a chore. Luckily the writers have managed to give us a decent set-up for the final 6 episodes, but no matter what this has to be in a fight with three as the most disappointing season. And right now it is well ahead on points...

The biggest weakness in season 3 was the president plot just meandered all over the place. It actually wandered worse than Kim Bauer in S2.

Season 4 was great, if you can get past that one little plot hiccup of one remote control to work every nuclear reactor in the country. (Shouldn't they put the magical "stop a meltdown" button IN the building with Homer Simpson?)
