NOTHING is as funny as Brooks and Henry when they're working together. Except maybe Brooks and Gene Wilder. Or Brooks and Reiner. But you get the point.
"Creative Consultancy" = hush money payoff

I'm guessing the producers think it's better to give these guys some cash to sit down and shut up rather than ignore them and have them run their mouths off to the press about how they could have improved the film.
Probably right, Mullah Omar

Courtesy of Jeffrey Wells, I just read a bunch of stuff on the film that deflated all my enthusiasm for the film. It sounds awful. I'd like to think that Brooks and Henry onboard would be good, but at this late stage, I think you can expect it to be nothing more than hush money.
Sorry, but Spaceballs and Robinhood Men in Tights SUCK!

I love ol Mel but I thought Spaceballs and Men in Tights - men in Tights in particular was shit. In my opinion, he peaked with History of the World, Young Frank, and Blazing Sad. I think he's funny as hell and very talented / creative but he's been kinda off for a while. The Producers was great but .... sorry ya'll. My opnion. He could turn this into something great - here's to hoping!
Do they know what makes the young people laugh?

I kinda doubt it. Never good when you have 70-year-old men writing jokes targeted to teenagers. It smacks of the embarrassing uncle trying to be "hip".
When's the last time Mel Brooks was funny?

As long as Brooks is a consultant only...

..I'm happy. I've got nothing but respect for him, he's a very funny guy, but his last couple of flicks were duds. Spaceballs is gold though, kinghenry. Not up to his classics, but still really funny.

It's not Young Frankenstein, but it was amusing. Dracula: Dead And Loving It sucked, though.
But Buck Henry...

...still got it, at least he did when he wrote the killer screenplay for "To Die For." Course that was 12 years ago.
Even if Mel & Buck "lost it,"they still deserve respect

...for creating GET SMART in the first place. A GET SMART film without Mel and Buck is like a SPIDER-MAN or X-MEN movie without a Stan Lee cameo...Sure, you don't really need them/him to make the film, but why in hell would you want to?

You must not have watched a room of college students laugh throughout a Spaceballs / Blazing Saddles double bill, or seen a living room of High School students loose it during History of the World Part One lately.

could this be the result of all the TB's that this project has created? Yes I agree that Mel Brooks, as much of a comedy legend, can pander to the "youth" crowd as in the rapping in Men In Tights. Be topical, just try to be "hip".

The only thing that surprises me about this remake is that Steve Martin isn't "starring" in it! Thank the Christ!!! ps whoever that "FIST" poster is, would he please get a life , stop jacking off at his terminal and leave this forum to people who really CARE about movies. You bitter and twisted soul - I hope you find happiness in SOME universe.

and I am confused by the comment about "70-year-old men writing jokes targeted to teenagers." Um "Get Smart" was a show that aired approximately forty years ago (1965-1970) so the target audience nostalgic for this property is middle aged baby boomers. Sorry, punk ass kids, but this is not your movie, this is OUR movie. Now get your rap music off of my damned lawn.
