The second NERV logo on the Famitsu page looks pretty sweet. I'm looking forward to these movies. BTW, whatever happened to the live-action Eva movie that WETA was working on? Is it still coming?
Can anyone recommend a good anime review

What's the storyline of these new films? Are they re-envisioning the original series or are they continuing the apocalyptic end to the excellent films released a few years ago (in the states)? Very exciting news either way.

I was afraid they were gonna fuck em up as the logos were so iconic. But after seeing them I must admit I kinda like 'em! A bit too busy but I can dig it!

As for the Eva movie. It's still going at its pace. Last I heard they'd raised half the budget needed. And I have a sneaking suspicion that these new anime remakes/additions are going to play a very big role in the live action version, wheter for story details or raising money or both...

As for Appleseed 2: Ex Machina movie, a teaser trailer for it was included on the PS2 game I believe. Looked pretty nice! Totally screams John Woo!

And those new zippo lighters look cool!

The new films, a total of four I believe... are remakes (and not just a summarized remake, but apprently a lot of stuff will be drastically changed) as well as a 'prequel' to the series and a sequel to 'End of Eva.' Least that's what I've heard...

Is a 2D animated movie, the first of a trilogy that is a retelling of the entire series. It is not the live action version that WETA has done prelim work on.

There's no news on the Hollywood/North American version. Gainax is retelling the story across four movies, the first of which is due out in Japan this September. Hideaki Anno's a bit better adjusted than he was when he made the original Eva. Also, he's said that they are more intended for a general audience than sci-fi/giant robot fans. Presumably that equates to less techno-babble.

The only news we've last had about the live Eva

Came from Matt Greenfield in 2006 and was pretty good as far as progress: "Matt Greenfield says that Weta approached ADV about approaching Gainax to do a live action Eva movie. Three "A List" directors that are also fans of Evangelion approached ADV about the project, not the other way around. Greenfield talks about getting their pitch package together and that "the first thing is Robin Williams talking about Evangelion", who is apparently a big Evangelion fan, and the appearance of the Mass Production Eva toy in One Hour Photo is entirely his doing. Celebrities have been inquiring directly to ADV about being involved in Live Action Evangelion. The director to be signed will most likely be the first to have room in their schedule. Greenfield acknowledges the uncertainty of the final product due to the nature of film making being driven by the director. The slug script was written by a well known writer who has written several well known sci-fi movies. The slug script will be re-written to fit the tastes and vision of the director selected. Greenfield acknowledges that the children will most likely be age appropriate. The kids will be picked and then the adults will be cast to work well with the children. Tiffany Grant asserts that Weta gets 20 times more email about Evangelion than Lord of the Rings. Greenfield says a director will most likely be signed by the end of the year. Greenfiled says they don't want to make it for profit, but because they want to do it, and they want to do it right, and do it justice in the same way that Lord of the Rings did."
