FF was easily the best superhero/comic movie adaptation to ever grace the silver screen, truly faithful. I know he'll "nail" this, I have zero doubt after watching the amazing trailers that have been released thus far. I've been blown away by the look of the CGI, and that cast is Fantastic! I'm going to make a Doctor Doom movie one day that will kick much ass. Doom will be the hero and the dastardly villains will be the Fantastic Four. The soundtrack will be compiled from MF Doom's Special Herbs and Spices. It'll be a nifty reboot, that's for sure.

It's all subjective so I always say that no ones opinion can be wrong but yours is. hahaha jk. Nitpicking aside, as a movie FF sucked. If you like the comic book it really sucked. The casting was awful. Jessica alba the scientist. The girlfriend breaking up with Ben on the bridge....the jokey atmosphere of the whole thing. the terrible special effects. it was just bad, maybe not Godzilla bad but close.

I thought Galactus wasn't going to be personafied, but rather just a presence...oh this is so retarded. It's going to suck, the first movie sucked, let's call the whole thing off. Not every film we discuss is automatically a piece of shit. "Iron Man" looks amazing and "Spider Man 3" will probably be at least as good as the other ones, if not better. "30 Days of Night" and "The Mist" both seem to be pretty awesome creature features. Even "The Incredible Hulk" sounds interesting. There's plenty of things to look forward to, however, there also seems to be a lot of crap. This falls into the latter category.

they are perfectly cast, they were great to watch. What they did to Doom is totally unforgiveable - sandbag the character now and just let it be. Reed also needs to be focused razor sharp to the exclusion of all else, that's his downfall not being too milquetoast. Sue does not need to be reduced to a neurotic modern woman longing for a relationship.

the Magic MacGuffin Surfboard? Why not have the subplot be Alicia and the Surfer as it always was? Give the fine actress something to do. Bring in Namor as a mysterious business parter for Reed and have it revealed he's been hiding who he really is at the end while falling for Sue the whole time. And getting Reed to develop tech for use in weapons for an Atlantean invasion which occurs seconds after the defeat of Galactus? The first movie could've just had them get their powers, react to them, figure out how to fight as a team during the Moleman invasion and realizing that Doom staged it all merely to observe them. Instead of fighting him after the big monster smackdown Doom withdraws to Latveria protected by int'l law. Reed then agrees to help the US government develop weapons to breach Doom's defenses, realizing they studied together in college and internship how intelligent and dangerous he remembers him to be. They go to observe the attack on Latveria as the Surfer is picked up on radar and they're called to investigate. I mean, based on the trailer they appear to find out about the Surfer at Sue and Reed's wedding of all things - how odd is that?

I normally just tool around on this website to get the latest movie news and the like. I'm usually happy doing just that. But, after I read some people giving the first FF great acclaim I had to come on here and rant. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE????????? FF was probably one of the worst movies ever made. The acting sucked, the Thing looked like a guy in a rubber suit (Which is not good in this day and age), he was too small and the story as a whole sucked. What the hell movie were you FF-lovers watching? And, while I'm at it, the remake of Godzilla was a great movie????????????? The guy who said that should be banned from ever commenting on any movie from now until he dies. That, too, was a horrible piece of garbage. I suppose you FF-lovers loved The Hulk, too? KILL YOURSELVES! The first FF sucked and the second one is going to suck more dick than a pornstar in a gangbang.

Just to expand on the above....I'm not a Fantastic Four fan. I never really read the comics and preferred less goody-goody superheroes over these guys. I was hoping, however, that FF would be a decent movie. I should demand my money back from the director. You can rest assured, the only way I'll see this next movie is if it's free and I fall and break my neck in front of the TV in such a way that I'm parlyzed and I have no choice but to look at the screen.

I think what a lot of you forget is that some of these comic book movies are aimed at kids. This, Ghost Rider, Superman...despite their PG-13 rating, which means nothing, they're kid's comic book movies. Sin City, Batman and to a lesser extent, Spider-Man are more for teens and up and should be critiqued as such.

I don't get it. I could see using Fishburne since he has that sort of deep, commanding voice, which if you then "tweak" a bit could be this giant booming disembodied commanding voice.

But all that said, are they only using him for an offscreen VOICE to toss out a few lines at the end or do we actually get to SEE Galactus in this thing?

Given that the FF is my all-time favorite comic, I'm still hoping this thing won't suck total ass and that they actually made a good effort to fix all the things that they got wrong the first time around.

Then again, all I heard was that the Thing's brow would be back in this second movie, more pronounced, but for the life of me, in ever still I've seen so far, the Thing looks exactly the same!

1) Fishburne is the man and adds to anything he's in. Period. 2) But with that said, while I hope for the best I expect this movie, much like the first one, to suck! And I'll tell you why. Because Marvel did not treat Fantastic Four comic to movie treatment with the respect they should have! One, they hired a director who just doesn't have the experience needed for someone I'd like seeing direct a FF movie. While I wish brother the best and hope/ expect him to evolve as a director down the road, the FF movie was horrible. Really bad. And in order to save FF2, his growth as a director from film to film will have to be uncanny. Two, the script sucked. Three, the casting of the mains outside of Johnny, Grim, and Reed sucked! (read: Doom and Sue). Alba's casting was like Halle Berry's casting in X-Men. Regardless of your opinion of their performance/ acting chops, because they were so badly miscast there's nothing they could have done to fit the role. The miscasting doomed the part from the jump. I'm signing off for now but again, sure the trailer looked hot for this movie. But I expect the same bad humor, poor narrative, bad acting, and bottom line disrespect for Fantastic Four that I saw in the first movie to appear again in this summer's 2nd installment. I sincerely hope I'm proved wrong.

They picked the worlds worst actor to play its most evil man, that is sort of endearing. Just imagine Doom, robes a blowing out behind him chasing Sue, who is obviously naked for the plot demands it, down a street cackling from a flying surf board, sweet! The first film is terrible, there are fun moments but mainly its bad, I also hope number 2 restores some Fantastic, though I am not that hopefull.

Fuck this movie. Fuck it back to the drawing board where it should have stayed. The first one was the total suck. It's time I can never get back. The new one will be even more suck just because it exist. I won't even bother with a rental. I am sure that those sources are dead on and that nothing will change to make it any better. I'd rather watch the Roger Corman version of FF and at least get a laugh.

Maybe it's because you've all been keeping tabs on the flick and are oversaturated to the point of insensitivity to the deluge of ads, but the hype machine is cranking up to full power, and there is plenty of buzz. Just because Geekdom has already decided they've seen the film and know that it's great/it sucks doesn't mean that the rest of the film-going public, which is almost everyone else, is just getting interested. Hell, NYC is having a Spidey week before the film launches. The City is getting involved in welcoming home a hero...a fictional hero?!?

I'm pretty sure Harry has the power to like/dislike any film based on how he wants to come off... and I think he never got past Tim Story as director. I expected little after the terrible reviews, but I actually like the 1st FF film... it's unpretentious, silly, colorful, quick, and mostly fun. Simliar to how comic books used to be before aging fanboys (who were too impatient and spoiled to move onto 'adult' fiction or art) demanded that they 'darken' along with the stunted, black-shirted, Korn-listening lives of said dipshits.

The first was dire, this is'nt going to be any different and it's with the same lack lustre outfit, result: disposable dreck that only appeals to undiscerning brats and the lobotomised. Waste of the Surfer's debut, someone like Cuaron or Del Torro could do a denser take on that type of property. Anyways, bring on Nolan's Dark Knight, F4's not even a bead of sweat on his balls!

I mean what have we seen beyond one cool chase scene? I mean the first film made Dr. Doom seem like some pissy exboyfriend rather than an evil genius with a god complex and failed to make me believe that the f4 fried him for any reason other than to save their own preppy skins. And as for the Thing... oh god. The pain. Shit. Argh. Jesus wept that film was so bad.

Of course we do. However, in this case, sorry, but it doest not matter. I got Devin Farci's back on this one. Unlike you -- who might have been too busy enjoying the Kirby drawings -- he got the tone of the comic. Which the first film captures greatly, and this film as well. So it's a LOVE IT or HATE IT bit of business with this film. Eh, it happens.

Since I loved the first two, I know I'll love this one since Sammy hasn't let me down. With the FF, we know the first one missed the mark (to varying degrees depending upon the person), and Iron Man is a mystery. The original Iron Man suit looks absolutely fantastic so we'll see when a trailer comes out how it looks. There are definitely some talented actors there, unlike in the FF (except Chris Evans who IS the Torch, perhaps Shield guy too...). Oh, and the Dark Knight will kicks lots and lots of Gotham Ass.

I... just... want... to... bang... my... freakin'... head... against... a... solid... brick... wall. Yeah, I'm glad I didn't waste the time to actually GO see the first one, with word-of-mouth and all that. But curiosity got the best of me when the dvd was made available. Unfortunately, that is. But man, ...watching the trailer for the sequel (via LIVE on the Xbox 360) gives me hope. At least, it did. Just the hint of disappointing word-of-mouth on early test-screenings... well, after having seen the first one, the rumor is easy to believe. And... I... just... want... to... give... up, you know? That trailer is BEAUTIFUL, ...other than when the Thing wipes a tear from his eye, as that (specific) moment is darn right embarrassing. Otherwise, that's a GREAT trailer. I loved the bit where Johnny is being lifted to the far heavens, with the flashing of moving images with the beat of the orchestra. Awesome. Now THAT is ART. And it gives you a sense of what such a movie COULD be, ...of what you HOPE it WILL be. You know? What's so damn hard about it??? Motion pictures are an ART form... and for superheroes, perhaps even MORE so, ...with their inspiration originating from such a visual medium. It's not a math formula, damn it. You have to feel this stuff, within your heart and soul. You just can't churn it out like you're working 9 to 5. Live it and LOVE it. Or don't do it at all.

The Fantastic Four- in comics or ANY medium- has always been fucking hokey shit. I don't know anybody who actually BUYS Fantastic Four comics, and the only time they're cool is when they appear in some other comic. They're a hokey, silly group that have gotten by on the same group dynamic for several decades. Frankly, I think Marvel would dissolve them if they weren't taken for granted as just being a permanent part of Marveldom.

Jackson, Pulp Fiction. *** "God, this is a tasty little sucker!" - guy eating sandwich on cover of Frank Zappa and the Mother of Invention's Burnt Weeny Sandwich". *** The subject line "FF1 pretty close to Lee/Kirby" nearly made me cry. No, no it wasn't. That's like saying "'The Spy Who Loved Me' pretty close to Ian Fleming novel of same name." In the sense that it had the same title and some of the same character names, maybe. "'The Wiz' pretty close to L. Frank Baum." "Color of sunny blue sky pretty close to orange." And so on.

Michael Bay makes a movie based on atoy commercial. He brings it to the screen and makes it look cooler (sorry, but I DON'T want to see a pussyfied red lorry on screen) WITH The flames and shit and his soul gets damed to hell, death threats and serious hate. Tim Story takes a 45-year-old piece of American culture and drags it through the mud making it only slightly better than Roger Cormans' flick and he gets a free pass...no hate? No damning? People gots some SERIOUS issues.
Tim Story was fairly faithful to the Fantastic Four.

He didn't change everything around, he just told a really bad story and made bad casting choices. The inclusion of Doom in the FF origin was something that Marvel had recently done in their Ultimates line, he just picked it up, because everyone thinks unoriginal new things are cooler for some reason and not like a dumber clone of the original. Michael Bay on the other hand has a horrible story, annoying characters, and of course TINO.

the original comic book. They want something faithful to the spirit of the thing. They all have amazing, imaginative ideas that should be a great visual match for film, but for some reason these people are all gunshy about superheroes because they're postmodern twits. Superheroes are modern myths, and myths are simply great stories about the human condition with interesting characters.

It's supposed to be about courage, sacrifice, justice, teamwork, etc. Batman Begins was interesting in that respect, I felt it was fairly successful in its theme of justice. Same with X2, about sacrifice. X3 worked for me as a story about redemption. Superman Returns of course failed miserably in nearly every way possible. Not every superhero story has to have an intensely personal motivation, like the main villain killing your girlfriend/puppy dog or that your daddy didn't love you enough. That's not heroism, that is an average response to evil. Batman becomes a hero because he wants justice, even though he doesn't know who killed his parents. That is more intriguing than the Joker or Joe Chill killing his parents and him having to beat them up.

one of the original storylines would've been both simpler and more entertaining. They don't need an origin story for Doom at all, they certainly don't need a shared origin with the Four. The way the cosmic bombardment was handled is fine, but they should've just had the whole thing be Reed's doing to begin with in conjunction with the US gov. for funding.

Character wise he was fine - spot-on as I remember, but physically they muffed it. The Thing should have had those big jutting ridges over his eyes, they are the key feature on his face (apart from it being made of orange stone!) - without them he just looked half-finished. He should have been way bigger too, not just quite tall. I was hoping they would have developed him for #2, a bit like he evolved in the comics, but no sign of that.
They said they FIXED the brow. Liars! This will SUCK.
by Triumph poops!
Apr 14th, 2007
03:41:32 PM
For crying out loud, one of the louder complaints that the fans had with the first movie was that the Thing's face was wrong -- that he should have had the famous brow. At the time, Story defended it by saying they took it off so Chiklis could "emote" more, which had to be one of the biggest bullshit lines I'd heard in ages. So they go into pre-production on RISE, and what does Story say? He essentially declared in interviews "We heard your complaints and the brow will now be back, one of many course corrections we're making for the second outing." But from the stills he looks the same.

Hey, if Tim Story couldn't get that MINOR thing right the SECOND time around, I have NO FAITH that he then got something MAJOR like Galactus right...
