So why is Iran being referenced?
by HellKing
Apr 9th, 2007
02:57:19 AM
Unless I missed something, I've never heard Iran being referred to. It's a nameless Arab country. The only country this sounds like is Saudi Arabia. Plus Iranians aren't Arabs. Fayed is Arabic. Fayed is suppose to be from this country.

Because two weeks from tonight, Heroes returns. And those who are watching 24 now only to see how much of a train wreck the defending Emmy winner for best drama series has become will flock to see (for starters) Peter v. Sylar, a guy who has more GRAVITAS! than Jack has shown this season (McDowell as Linderman) and the fate of HRG Guy, among others. 24 has squandered the opportunity to match the high of the first four hours, and no other plot point emphasizes how much the show has fallen than Wayne Palmer, after 3 episodes of resisting nuking Unnamed MidEast Country, only to change his mind because basically, the Veep called him a pussy.

The very nature of the show and the way it's filmed and aired with little interruption means they have to pretty much everything mapped out from the beginning. It's not like Lost where they can stall us with a filler episode.

From season one and Terri getting amnesia for an hour there have always been goofy bits in the show but when you consider the throwaway episodes in every other show, it's not that bad. And I doubt that they write one episode and suddenly panic about what to do in the next.

08:53:56 AM
Okay, season 5 was the first season I started watching as it aired on tv. I'm catching up on Season 4 in syndication now and I realize something. Season 4 started off with Jack working for DOD and the buildup before hand I'm sure had people thinking whoa, how are they going to get him back in action. Then Season 5 comes along, he's faked his death living under an assumed name, and you think whoa, how are they going to get him back in action. Then Season 6 comes along, he's in a Chinese prison, and again you think whoa, how are they going to get him back. And each time by the end of hour two's he's got a cell phone and a gun is once again working as a CTU operative. It's like what's the point in even having these big season ending cliffhangers if by the second ep. of the next season it's going to be Jack tracking down a lead by episode two again. As I said I haven't seen seasons two three or most of 4 so most of this stuff is fresh for me and i enjoy the show, but I'm just noticing this laziness on their part. In a previous talkback someone said Jack should find out our gov. left Audrey for dead and so he shoots the President at the end of the season and becomes a fugitive so season 7 could be him on the run, but in reality we all know it'd just end up with him back working for CTU again anyway. Sure they'd have some distrust towards him from those working there at first, but by hour 6 that would be gone and it'd be back to the "whatever you need Jack" stuff we've seen all along.

predictable. Let this be a lesson learned for all those creative folks on how hard and how fast a good show can nose dive into the crap bucket. They really need to reboot that whole show, esp the writers, for next season. Bauer as a fugitive might work. Build up his adversary the entire season to be Jack's equal and have a super hero style mega good vs evil showdown, chess match, man hunt at the end of the season. The whole "stop the threat of the day" crap has been milked for all it's worth. Time to get back to the basics of good (not necessarily action filled) drama.

Time stretching
by pinkfloyd2000

01:56:25 PM
This season's time-stretching is so far-fetched, it's intruding on the enjoyability of the show -- which, I might add, is far, far less than last season. This season, to put it frankly, sucks the balls off an Arcturan Mega-Donkey. Here's two prime examples: 1. The helicopter that Bauer & Charles Logan took from CTU (or wherever) to Martha Logan's house. One minute, they show Bauer at CTU. Less than 5 minutes later, according to the 24 clock, they are at Martha's front door. Err...yeah. 2. The preparation of the emergency legal briefs to the Supreme Court: I think that Pres. Logan's sister had her entire document researched and typed up, in its final form, in about 4-5 minutes. Ah hmmm... And, uh...last season's best character, and IMO 95% of why last season was so intriguing, Charles Logan...nice job bringing him back in, but then ya stab him and don't reveal what the fuck happened to him. Going on, what, 5 or 6 episodes now with our dicks flapping in the wind? I'm more psyched for the season premiere of "Little People, Big World" than I am for tonight's 24.

Was making Aaron Pierce--arguably a bigger badass than even Jack Bauer himself--crazy-ass Martha Logan's bitch and errand boy with a really smart sweater and pant set. Talk about sad and pathetic, that's an even worse send-off than Soul-patch Tony's demise. They should have had the silent countdown at the end of that episode for Agent Pierce. I'll probably have to wait until the DVD comes out to double-check it, but i'm pretty sure i saw his balls in a mason jar on a shelf by the kitchen. As much ass as he's kicked over the last few seasons, that was a truly depressing turn of events. Would have been one thing if he was shacked up with some hot broad; i'd even have believed it if Martha wasn't an alcoholic nutjob and they were traveling the world together having hot monkey sex and laughing at Charles Logan. I only hope we find out at the end of the season that the whole thing was some kind of deep cover assignment so he could keep tabs on the Russian President's wife or something...Jesus wept.

I agree with those who say the final five minutes of the episode may have saved a thoroughly mediocre season. The fight with Fayed was one of the best in the show's history and I'm definitely hoping Jack's drive to save Audrey and get revenge on those Chinese SOBs will fuel the last few episodes. Here's a question, though. Does anyone remember the EW cover story on 24 back a few months ago? They described this fight between Jack and Fayed but said it happened in episode 19 and that the episode began with someone with the last name of "Bauer" dying. Wasn't this episode 17? My thought is that the writers caught on that this season was headed down the toilet and did some quick rewriting, moving the confrontation with Jack and Fayed up to this episode so we can get onto the final episodes, which could salavage the season.

This season has a lot of holes in it. We saw "Audrey's" body in the pictures. The US didn't get a body back to be examined? She was afterall a high level government official. And what's ahead is more absurdity on top of more absurdity. The producers fumbled this season. The worst season so far. More than Season 3.

Is it that hard to believe? First of all, Audrey went over there on her own. She wasnt sanctioned by the US government at ALL. Secondly, does America really want to open up that can of worms again? They basically have Jack dead to rights- he was identified as having invaded their embassy. The diplomatic fallout from that would be crazy. Yes, (even though you didnt bring it up), Secretary Heller would have probably raised Hell about it, but he knows the game as well as the rest of us out here in tv land. When Audrey chose to do that, she was on her own. And the whole point of that "charred body" was just that- it was charred beyond recognition, leaving some doubt. This is the kind of stuff i'm talking about.. its like people are really LOOKING for something to nitpick. It drives me crazy. Oh and no, they wouldnt have gotten a body back for the reasons I laid out above.

by Mogwai Democracy
Apr 10th, 2007

1. Plot twists & turns, like 30 of them! Seriously kept you guessing.

2. Jack was actually in this episode for more than 5 minutes!!!

3. Jack opening a can of WHUP-ASS on the terrorists & doing it solo.

4. hand-to-hand combat!!

5. "Say hello to your brother." URKKK!!!

6. "Damn Jack!"

7. AUDREY !!!

8. CHENG !!!

Now THAT'S 24! Is one episode enough to redeem this entire season? Probably not. But if they can keep up the momentum & the quality of this episode for the rest of the season, then they just might turn it all around. Welcome back, GRAVITAS!

I'll grant that this episode had what the previous 16 lacked, classic 24 action. Why couldn't they have done this all along? Still, it was merely an OK resolution to a lame arc. Where's Papa Bauer? Hell, I think Hawkins' fight scene in Jericho was better, and that show sucks on a higher level. And, he was fighting a girl!

As far as I'm concerned, if this last run turns out to be Ok, season 6 ought to be know as "7" not 24. But then again, we've seen Rogue Jack before, so the potential for suckiness is still very much there. Milo is still an idiot, as is Mo', and the quiet relationship interludes are cringe worthy.

Well, shut my mouth! All is forgiven, Mea Culpa, etc. Great episode with an excellent cliffhanger for next week. BTW, I totally KNEW Audrey wasn't dead; no way her death was gonna be off-screen and anecdotal. So, do the Chinese REALLY think Jack's going to start WW3 for a skirt? I mean, you torture a guy for two years and he doesn't talk but you still think Jack's gonna turn? Anyway, really great episode and kudos to all involved, especially Mr. Sutherland for proving once again why ol' JB is STILL the baddest bad-ass on TV...

No, not really. Everything, with the exception of Audrey, that you have seen this year has been done before. They get rid of Fayed because they know that the story was going nowhere. That is not a good season, nor is it at all creative. It started out strong, but then became a formula. If you disagree, notice that the trailer for next week shows that Jack will "go it alone" again.

"Say hello to your brother" indeed, and on that note: MAN, am I glad i didn't highlight the spoilers this time around!!!! Woke up and played the Ep recording (i always miss the actual broadcast) and this episode certainly made up for the mediocreness of the last few. My only nitpick is that Jack didn't contact CTU after arriving under the truck, given that no-one else knew where they were and woudn't be able to do anything if something happened like Jack getting caught, which i feared would happen in the end (and which i'm guessing was something the folks in charge of the show were banking on somehos) and which made the Jack Bauer Hostile Slaughter all the more great - as Ricky said, "Damn, Jack" indeed...

This year's season started last night. In that case, this season is off to a great start! Really love the fact that Jack was finally being Jack (not realistic after what he went through, Chinese prison, yada-yada-yada...). Screw it. It finally had some action, only one really stupid CTU soap opera spot, Wayne about ready to croak yet willing himself to remain standing while the ambassador left, and yes, it's time for Jack to "go it alone". Guess what? That's the best part. They "owe him" anyways. Let's hope Jack shoots Ricky in the neck too!

Are they the puppet masters of the whole season? Or more? Was Audry really what America gave up to get Jack back? Was the whole "months ago" thing just another part of what the US had to do to get Jack? Oh, and the Suitcase Nuke thing ain't over yet. That's what Jack is bringing to the Chinese. He has to steal them and that's where the Spoonie standoff takes place. Did the Chinese start the whole thing just to get the suitcase nukes? So after going all Lefty the whole season on the arab front, the producers now say they were behind what was going on the whole time -- even crazier, they are now saying -- THE CHINESE ARE EVIL -- DOWN W/THE SLANT EYES! Weird????

I've enjoyed the season throughout more than a lot of you but this episode was definitely back to ass-kicking form. A plot twist (fake Habib cell) that you didn't see coming 20 min. in advance. Palmer growing a set and doing something cool. Jack screaming "Dammit!" from under a moving garbage truck. Fayed/Jack hand to hand combat that was intense and looked real for once. Spoonie looking at Jack's handywork and saying "Damn, Jack." The Chinese returning and promisign the season will wrap up with Jack kicking ass. Hell, even Morris made me laugh when he interrupted Milo and Nadia. The only thing this episode lacked was Chloe gunning down terrorists with a machine gun leg while Zombie Tony looked on saying "Damn, Chloe." GREAT EPISODE! 24 IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...I couldn't stand that Jack finally found the nukes (that were about to be detonated) and instead of calling CTU, he decided to take on a bunch of machine gun wielding terrorists with a fuckin' 9. I know he's "badass" and all, and I know it all worked out for the best. But the odds were clearly against him. Why would he risk millions of lives for the sake of his ego. What a fuckwad! Make a quick call so they can grab your GPS coordinates and then rush in alone if you must.

Also, I agree that prepping and deploying a team of Arabic speaking agents in a matter of a few minutes was kind of ludicrous. And Habib's "code" was as well. Unless it was an improvised code, it wasn't very clever and certainly not designed well enough to fool any intelligence agents.

Still, I was enjoying this one more than the rest of the season. And it kind of kicks off a new mini-season, that should be more entertaining than the last. Don't these Chinese have any dissidents to persecute? Geez. Maybe they can have Martha place a call.

Jack hangs from the bottom of a truck for 10 minutes, and his arms aren't complete jelly? He wouldn't be able to hold his gun up let alone kick ass on Fayed. That said, i don't care either way, this ep was kickass, and i have no problem suspending my disbelief and overlooking this and the other gripes noted above...get that man his sack!

it never fails on 24 that as soon as everyone starts griping about something, they pull off an episode that totally kicks ass, answers all the questions that TB'ers had and were pissed off about, and generally reminds everyone why they love this show and invest their time in it week after week...

24 to 8 since it seems the last 1/3 (give or take) are the best.

Somerichs - the same reason he can take out dudes with machine guns with one pistol or how he can bounce back from being torture for 2 years (2 years!) or how he can get stabbed, rub dirt on it, and get back in the game: cause he's f'n Jack. Now it's down to bidness.

I was very down on this show, but man, very happy with last night's episode.

Somehow, someway the show appears to be turning around. This episode was the best since the 4 hour premiere. It's still goofy as hell, but Jack's takedown of EVERYONE in the warehouse made wading through the last painful 3 hours worth it. Amazing, when Jack is on screen for the majority of the episode the show is 10 times better. Take a note producers. We don't care about the CTU drama but we can stomach it if you give us some Jack action in large doses.

It might be true that in the past 24 has always turned itself around after people start griping. However, this particular instance was notable and worrisome for me because: 1) I've never really had serious gripes about the show before, and 2) I've certainly never complained about it longer than one or two episodes in a row. This streak of awfulness lasted a full eight to ten episodes.

I broke his casting news like 2 years ago and the guy is still hanging around. I knew he would re-enter the foil as Jack's international nemesis. Good to see the Chinese are back in the picture. Too bad they have Audrey and not Kim though... still, on the whole, I really enjoyed last night's episode, BUT, I can't wait til they kill off Mike Doyle. His character sucks and Ricky Schroeder's acting is wooden and procedural. I know he's supposed to be a government hard-ass but would it kill him to smile for half a second?

This is the first season where i felt like i didn't HAVE to see the next episode RIGHT FUCKING NOW ("Dammit!"). You know that feeling? Previous seasons, an episode would end, and it felt like a g-damn eternity before Monday rolled around again to see the next ep. And that was the case even knowing all the time inconsistencies, and all the dopey secondary story arcs; 24 has never been perfect but i was more than willing to suspend my disbelief cos it was exciting and Kiefer was a badass as Jack the badass. I've yet to experience the "holy shit, i'd pay $100 to see the next episode right now" feeling this season (maybe at the very beginning, but they may have actually done themselves a disservice by appeasing the fans with that 4 hr block). It was to the point where i could see myself not being too bothered if i missed it altogether. So, you're right, to go from the most exciting (if not necessarily the best) show on TV to its current (pre-last night)state is pretty worrisome. But, as most have said, last night's was a return to form, and i'm onboard, more than curious to see where this arc is going and hoping like hell they're gonna focus on Jack again (even if he doesn't have his sack) instead of Ass-hat Milo literally jeopardizing millions of American lives with his petty jealousy over someone he hasn't even dated yet, or President Wayne "doesn't-have-one-tenth-of-the -gravitas-of-his-bro-David-eve n-when-channeling-Dirty-Harry- during-his-speeches" Palmer (but props for the fake nuke, even if we saw it coming a mile away). In the end, i'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and chalk up this seasons' weaknesses to the season 6 doldrums...as long as they bring it home now and kick some serious ass!

...reminds me very much of the whole Ritz cracker bit that either Richard Pryor or Eddie Murphy did (as I get older, their standups start to merge in my mind). You remember the one? Where he was talking about any sex you get after a long time without sex seems like the best sex you ever had? Kind of like a guy coming out of hte desert after days without food is going to take whatever cracker you give him and praise it as the best damn cracker he's ever had ("That wasn't no regular cracker! That had to be a Ritz!").

We've all been in the 24 desert a long time but, by the standards of earlier seasons, last night's episode really was just sort of a regular cracker.

I was glad to have it, but let's not go turning it into something it wasn't...namely an excuse or a magic eraser for all the shit we've been subjected to this season.

Jack may be back, but 24 still has a whole helluva lot to make up to me.

I don't disagree that they may have found it, but he JUST fell down in the water as the clock hit 00 at the end of last episode. Bill, not 5 minutes later said he was dead. No way, even with the Los Angeles teleporters that they regularly utilize in this show, did they find that body.

The writers know that Logan is too good of a character to get rid of, especially since they've killed off all their other good characters last season. I think they're going to keep him around as their 'ace in the hole'. Due to his injury, I doubt that he'll be back this season, however.

But then again, I remember that Tony Almeida was back in action just a few hours after BEING SHOT IN THE NECK AND LOSING A GALLON OF BLOOD! Damn, I miss Soul Patch...

A little stabbing wouldn't keep Logan away. Tony was shot in the neck, had surgery, almost died, and still made it back within the same day. If there was a reason for Logan to return, I'm sure they'd bring him back.

I'm glad some of you recognize one pretty good episode isn't going to erase the horrible ones that preceded it.

Best so far of the season. One question.....would all these people in the bunker with the president be able to just cell phone anyone outside and let them know that the president just launched an attack on a terrorist country? Everyone seems to have free range down there. Also, the CTU drama suck balls. Keep it out of the show. But good show overall. Nice twists and turns.

...for the clarification. The fact that I couldn't clearly recall was really starting to bug me. Did Murphy do a Pryor impression in the same show? I'm clearly hearing "You tell Bill I said to have a Coke and a smile and shut the fuck up!"

Of course, having one's standup confused with Richard Pryor's is prettymuch the highest form of flattery a comic can recieve.

To go from that to making fat suit movies...truly Eddie has forgotten the face of his father.

I was like an Army private or something, and there was some sort of military parade (but it was more like a real parade, because there were children in the group ahead of us) and then I was talking to Roslin, trying to explain shit to her (I think the one thing I couldn't get through her thick skull was Baltar's inhead conversations - I was trying to point out that they might mean something).

I don't think I'm going to make it to 2008.

well, I just don't know what to tell you--it appears that you may well be a cylon. Hearing music in the walls, by any chance? ;-)

I keep hopin for recurring BSG dreams involving as many Grace Park copies as there are, with the occasional Six for the sake of variety. So far no joy, but recall that Teddy R. once commented about failing while daring greatly....

I do like the irony of you having, for all intents and purposes, an inhead conversation with Roslyn about Baltar's inhead conversations with Six.

it IS gonna be a long wait. I have the mini and S1 dvds in hand, s2 & 2.5 on order, and will get S3/3.5 as soon as they are available. will fill the void both in time and my feeble memory while waiting for the fall event and January.

cheers and Sweeter Dreams to you, sir
