No seriously where did it go?

Oh come now, we can't blame it on the "crashed drive" can we?

Speaking of which, why is it this is THE only site I go to that has hosting problems? must be low ad revenue from thebigbadtoystore.com or something? dunno know really. I would once again recommend aicn move to ibm, rackspace, xo or something like that for hosting. a real company with real servers. and dedundant backups. sheesh!

anyway, my money on why the bob clark death announcement talkback got removed or mysteriously deleted is because everyone blamed the worthless drunk illegal, and rightly so.

the funny as in sad/ironic/funny not bob clark's movies funny is that this site rails against the bush administration every chance harry gets when it comes to a loss of civil liberties. YET, I don't recall georgie asking people not to blame illegals, to embrace syria as our newest ally, or no longer using the terms "long war" or "global war on terror." no boys, that belongs to your good friends the liberals, the democrats, the socialists, all of them together who don't want you to recognize the real problems in the world. like illegals killing innocent citizens. thanks Harry, thanks for preventing free speech and free thought.

oh and to the mods, feel free to ban me and/or delete my post or this thread altogether. you'll only serve to validate my point. wow how I love austin! city of denial!

Every year, long before TBS starting doing its 24-hour marathon, my family and I would watch A Christmas Story. We wore the tape out (It might have even been a beta) we watchted it so much around Christmas each year. We would play it as we opened gifts, on Christmas eve, Christmas night, it played all through the week until New Year's. Once we went back to school it was shelved once more, and maybe watched occasionally over the summer on a rainy day, just to get ourselves (my brother and I) excited about next Christmas. Anyway, thank you Bob Clark, you made a wonderful film that lives in the hearts of many. May you and your son rest in peace.

..it had an end. I could have spent another 4 hours just reading what those guys were saying. What a great find. Thanks. (my brother and sister were in Rush's "Getting Straight", as extras) Harrison Ford was in that, too.

When you talk about a filmmaker's career and the intertesting choices they make, Clark has to be in the conversation. He made some great movies in totally different genres. He'll be missed.

Bob Clark directed the most successful Canadian film.

Most Canadian filmatists don't want to admit it, because they tend to make and praise the 'arty' Canadian films - which are almost, without fail, utter shit - but the most successful Canadian film, by a LONG, LONG, LONG ways was PORKY'S. So, when you see that kid getting his pecker yanked in the shower, please, remember your neighbours to the north! O Canada! I was actually quite sad to hear that Clark had died, and especially so since his son died with him. My thoughts go out to his family.

Coincidentally, I had just read Sheperd's "In God We Trust...All Others Pay Cash" and reminded of what a terrific adaption Clark made. We're nostalgic for that film the way Ralph Parker is nostalgic in his narrative. And having grown up in S. Florida, "Porky's" hits the mark perfectly as well. I don't want to get into the negativity involved with blaming one stupid asshole because this kind of senseless shit is caused by people everyday of all backgrounds and ethnicities. This particular asshole just happened to murder someone we cared for.

pretty sure it was "kill ALL the white people..." and is still one of the classic eddie murphy snl sketches. love it.

also reminds me of the chris rock uncle who's married to a white woman named suzie whom he will "kill furst, if da revolushun evah cum, jus ta show deez crackahs I meen bidness!"

couldn't agree more.

Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things is awesome. It's got one of the all time greatest 'wtf?' moments at the end when Allen tosses Anya to the zombies. Classic, I tell ya'. She was an acid-laced nut, anyway.

Well, kinda. I lost it in a 67 Mustang at a drive-in during the showing of "Black Christmas." So that movie has always been a favorite.

The first film? "It's Alive." Quite appropriate I think.

But don't you think it's even more tragic due to...

the circumstances? It's a tragedy that he was killed by a drunk driver. It's even more of a tragedy that he was killed by a drunk driver that should never even have been on our soil in the first place. You can't say if it hadn't been this particular person that killed Bob Clark, then it would have been someone else. As I said, it's doubly tragic. We need to crack down a lot harder on drunk drivers, and we need to crack down a lot harder (or even at all) on illegal aliens.
Anchorite, you make a good point

The only problem with that point is that it's a hot potato topic. I don't know if you saw the original TB where all hell was sorta breaking loose. Some derogatory stuff was said and it blew up. Do I think people were overreacting? Hell's yeah. Either way, it got a bit nasty here for a while. The key word is illegal, and some people refuse to understand that we are a nation of laws, so whether it's murder, drunk driving, theft, crossing the border without permission, etc., it's against the law. If we're going to be PC about it, then there may be no solution. Then again, PC is a liberal interpretation of of how thing should be said/done (I'm a moderate, myself), and it does not take into consideration the future of this country or its well being (from a socio-economic perspective). It's too easy a topic to jump on, I may be making a mistake by posting this message, people get so emotional here. Anyway, no, Mr. Clark would still be here, but that's also going by the assumption that the man who caused the crash was here illegally. IT NEVER STATED IN ANY ARTICLE THAT THE MAN WAS AN ILLEGAL. My disclaimer, thank you.

The server crash nuked several articles, and that's a huge bummer for those of us working on the site. But I'm glad it nuked that repulsive talkback filled with some of the most skin-crawling racism you guys have ever managed to display.

Deus, that post above is a troll. Period. You're welcome to your opinions, but you and Anchorite aren't going to start this shit up in this thread again. This is about Bob Clark and his films and this great last interview he gave. You've each had your moment to vent off-topic, and now here's your warning. If you try to drag that out, I'll stop it. Period. And if anyone else tries to dogpile on, I'll stop that, too.

I love to participate in talkback, and I love when a conversation can be tough, like in the MPAA talkback, where despite many people rabidly disagreeing with me, things never got ugly, and no one had to have their posts moderated. But I'm not going to put up with you using a filmmaker's death to advance some grotesque racist agenda.

I saw an advance of the Aqua Teen movie, and at some point, for some reason, some characters start talking about Porky's and Christmas Story and I swear say the name Bob Clark. This was a film print screening, so it couldn't have been a last minute addition. Odd.

You know, I usually stand up for the immigrants in these sort of discussion, especially when there's blatant racism involved. But despite having good arguments, I couldn't bring myself to diverting a man's obit. I guess these other guys don't have a problem with that. They may be upset that an "illegal" drunk driver (as opposed to a legal drunk driver, cause, you know, if you're documented it's okay to commit vehicular homicide) killed Bob Clark, but they have no issue with moron talkbackers ruining his remembrance. [P.S. At some point, being a free black man in the south was also considered "illegal". A nation of law indeed.]
Moriarty, I don't mean to upset you, but please tell me

where in my singular post in this thread I was being racist, let alone "advancing some grotesque racist agenda"? I don't want this TB to be riddled with off-topic, vulgar diplays of racism either. I grew up watching Bob Clark's movies (not all of them, but several), some of which I consider absolute classics. I am very saddened by his untimely and tragic passing.

I won't post any more in this TB thread if it will make you more comfortable, but if your comment, "But I'm not going to put up with you using a filmmaker's death to advance some grotesque racist agenda" was directed toward me (which it certainly seemed to be), I just don't think I deserved that. Feel free to e-mail me if you'd care to explain further where you think I was acting inappropriately or in a racist fashion. I truly do not wish to be disrespectful of Bob Clark, you, or anyone else on this thread. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

was when they talk about Corman telling Dante and Allen Arkush to stick boobies and sex and violence in the trailer for Cockfight and change the name to Born to Kill because the South doesn't like cockfighting! The whole trailer ended up being nothing more than nurses and boobies and careening police cars and they made it into a bullshit dream sequence for Warren Oates because Lewis Teague felt guilty about the trailer having stuff the movie didn't have. The rationalization was hilarious! Great stuff. I wish there were more interviews like that on a regular basis. And Tarantino is quite clearly the Head Geek. That whole interview was like watching one big geekgasm!

If some lib can classify something they disagree with as "racist", they will do so to quell that nasty little idea of free speech you think is important to all Americans. The fact that this director was killed by an illegal is of PARAMOUNT importance, but this probably isn't the proper forum for it. However, the "internets" is probably the only place you can voice this opinion without threat of physical harm or loss of you job.

...if by "roundtable" you mean THE QUENTIN TARANTINO SHOW STARRING QUENTIN TARANTINO with cameo appearances by grindhouse legends piping up every so often. I know the dude's chatty, and his enthusiasm for every movie ever made can be infectious, but I wanted more from the actual guys working back then. At least Rodriguez knew to mostly stay quiet and let the old-timers talk. And when Tarantino had to leave, the article shouldn't have just ended there, man.
