Still no reviwer's mentioned the choice of music for these films. I heard Rodrigez was doing a patiche of early Carpenter Howarth scores, any tb'ers know anything about this? Stoked to see them both btw.
KillaKane, Rodriguez's score is *very* Carpenter-esque.

Alot of keyboard and synth influences in it...trust me, "Grindhouse" will reaffirm your love of movie-going, no doubt about it.

"We have this scene...and it's huge close-ups of my feet. Just like my feet. My feet are acting with Kurt Russell. I was so excited to have a scene with him and [basically] I'm asleep with my feet. My feet are acting with Kurt. And I'm like O.K. well my feet are gonna act the hell out of themselves!" --- Haha Go Tarantino. As long as the girl is hot and her feet are well taken care of I'm down for a footjob! Yeah I'm picky. Tarantino isn't. Uma's ugly dogs have no right to get that much screen time.

Dangers of script reviews: Open to Interpretation....

Reading it and how you visualize it in your brain it quite different than what the actual screenwriter/director(or attached director) might have envisioned, so the final product will always look/feel different. Much like your review of an early draft of Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN redux/reimagining...it was an early draft and things change. Rewrites do happen in this business of film and I honestly think you should have waited before jumping the gun with your script review. Maybe Rob didn't want people reading his shooting script intentionally and an early draft(which you may have reviewed) with much wilder ideas that got thrown in during his initial pitch to the films producers, was posted/e-mailed ad nauseum across the internet. In the end Rob was laughing from the insanity of it all. Careful with your early script reviews, Quint. They do more harm than good.

I recalled Rodrigez mentioning he'd piped in some old Carpenter scores while on set. Great to hear he's followed through with his score. Can't to see 'em :-)

This movie can do you no wrong, it's an experience, bring all your friends (Quint kinda stayed away from that one)! I'm looking forward to a private screening in the basement, when it comes out on DVD. I assume that's how the majority of the talkbackers first viewed Evil Dead, I Spit on Your Grave, Death Hunt, etc. On video, on a crappy tv, while no one else is around until you can say it's actually good. Thats 'Grindhouse'!

last night. Not exactly what I expected but still an entertaining movie. I'm really looking forward to the "missing reels" when the DVD comes out. That decision was probably the one I cared for the least. Overall though, nice effort from both directors.

Movies and soundtracks

There is no better movie-going experience than one where talented knowledgeable directors do what they love and know best and clearly have fun with a project. Even if you don't like a certain kind of movie, when it is all about tlc, fun and sharing what a director loves about about their art, the feeling for the audience in the movie theater is electric and very different than when a movie is made for all the wrong reasons (to make money, to fill space during holiday seasons, to further someone's career or inflate their egos). The Rodriguez/Tarantino GH experience is food for the movie-lover's soul. (A few other examples of this for me are Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Dead Alive (Brain Dead), King Kong (2005) and Land of the Dead, Severance, The Departed...I'm still waiting to see Black Sheep). The GH soundtracks are incredible. Supports the action and genre in both movies (the tender, cheesy-romantic piano during an exchange using technology in Death Proof was a really great touch). The soundtracks are an incredible audio experience on their own...I highly recommend buying them. If you live in Austin, put the soundtrack on, pump up the volume, and cruise down Congress Ave. (and hope a cop doesn't stop you). It's pretty cool. One last note: Zoe Bell is so badass and totally warm and fuzzy/down to earth at the same time...what a cool character. Hope to see more of her as herself and not just a stunt double.

believing your own post. Here's some more big,fat "maybes" for you."Maybe" someone at Dimension or Little Akkad read it and and realized how stupid and misguided it was and wanted changes, causing the delay in production that occurred."Maybe" Dimension got wind of the VERY negative internet feedback and then suggested changes resulting in said delay."Maybe"(but doubtful)zombie had a proverbial "moment of clarity".Since zombie's previous movies were unoriginal, poorly directed, and abyssmally written and Dimension themselves are NOTORIOUS for their interference (see:Wes Craven's CURSED,FEAST,HALLOWEEN 6,HELLRAISER:BLOODLINE,etc...) ,it would seem that I have more evidence to back up my claims against your wishful thinking.I highly doubt zombie was laughing, most filmmakers, veterans included (the aforementioned Craven, for one),don't usually find themselves in a humorous mood after dealing with Dimension.I will bet you my middle nut that zombie doesn't have "final cut".And let me ask you this:What kind of "harm" could Quint's script review have possibly had?Gee,according to you it was a fake script intended to throw people like Quint off track.I would think zombie and yourself would be happy about his little "master plan" working!"Harm"?If anything Quint's review could only HELP give us a better movie.Unless you're zombie who would actually have to DO the rewriting,or hopefully have it rewritten FOR him by someone with a clue.Should've given it to Quint.

The drafthouse is cool and some of Austin is cool but overall i wouldnt call it great. The music scene is kicking with lame artists and weak unpopular styles of music. If they ever get a pro basketball or nfl team then maybe it could be great. http://tinyurl.com/pv8do

I just made an account to comment on Deathrpoof. This movie was boring as hell, and I think I can say that this is Quentin Tarrantino's most chatty movie ever. It was like the car ride in Pulp Fiction, but with women, and the car ride went on for an eternity. I don't think I'm alone on this. When I went to take a piss after the movie, I heard other people ask themselves, "Why was the second movie so bad?"

Just check out her beak. Obviously a Kiwi or an Aussie upon first glance. Nice try but I really don't think New Zealand has anything to do with this movie. What about Rosario Dawson or Jordan Ladd or, hell, even Kurt Russell? Don't they ooze the essence of wherever the hell they're from? It's gotta be tough keeping up with all the other reviewers on the site and their bullshit personal connections to every single detail of every single movie.

Will see it several more times. Don't listen to TBers about Death Proof. I understand where people can think it is boring or chatty...especially because it is in the same movie with the action-packed, super-fueled Planet Terror. But don't listen these TBers, first of all they don't know how to enjoy or understand what the laid-back elements do for the action elements. I'll be the first to tell you that the first part of Death Proof is slow-moving, but it is important because without it, the second part wouldn't be so kick-ass. It is important to know what kind of stalker insane person Stuntman Mike is and that is what the first part of the movie establishes. Don't listen to the TBers because, if you are a true movie geek, the best thing to do is to see the movie yourself and come to your own conclusions.

Any body in here like Roger Corman?Do you also like cow bell in your 70's theme music? Well, I do, and I also like movies reminiscent of the 60's and 70's B grade. I got to see Grindhouse without a doubt.

Hey bearovingian thats funny,If a chick is oozing something on film, then I think she needs a strong antiperspirant.exude sounds nicer to me ,but they are the same thing. Why would we overlook Rosario dawson's fine ass, over some random australlian chick? Quint, get some rest man! You pulling to much overtime, and keep up the good work.
