Man...I thought Megatron was the worst design. Do none of the robots in this flick actually look like robots? It looks like they fired the designer halfway through the process and just decided to go with what they had. None of these character designs have any style or substance whatsoever-they all just look like junk.

The greatest talk back in AICN history can be done as a do over. We can relive old arguments and hissy fits. So here are my highlights. You can't do a movie that's supposed to make money with only serious robots. You need human characters. This movie is done for the general masses who vaguely remember the cartoon and toys from their childhood, not only superninja and Krack...sorry guys. Nobody cares about the mass vs height argument posted by Krack. And that's about it I think.

so it doesn't bother me as much that they changed the robot designs. However, since I do not like Mike Bay movies, there's probably a very good chance I won't like this one either. I have not seen the Island, so I cannot comment on whether he made a 'supposedly' smarter movie. It never fails that he'll find a way to put some very 'cringe worthy' scenes into each of his movies.
I see no reason why that is not a distinct possibility.

but I fucking hate bay, shit scriptwriting, Shia Lebeouf, and others.

What surprised me about this when I first heard of it and there was the original TB Brouhaha, was the sheer arrogance of the producers. Now I know, and SOAP proved it once and for all, that the geek/ fanboy market is not that big, but Geeks tend to go to repeat viewings of property they support and also tend to buy all the DVD's and other shit that goes with it (just ask George Lucas), so why have this lot deliberately decided to alienate the fanboy market. They could easily have given a few nods to keep the geeks happy, but they would rather abuse them. It is a truly strange decision, and all I can credit it to(I have spent far too long thinking about this) is that they want to seperate TF from it's fanbase and ease it into family movie territory. The way that they can remove the geek stain (destigmatize it) is to piss all over any fanboy opinion, be rude arrogant and abusive, and deliberately produce things that do not resemble beloved originals. Thereby giving them a geek free franchise for the inevitable sequel.

Although, in theory, a good idea this never works. Godzilla being the best example.

I pretty much agree, just piilow talk. Not a fan, of Transformers or Bay, so I will be mighty surprised if this turns out to be anything other than a shallow, silly film with some really nice effects in it. Maybe that's enough, I don't know.

As to the The Island's supposed 'intelligence', I suppose it's a relative thing. It is, for example, smarter than Bad Boys II. It is not, however, smarter than a slice of pizza with half a boot print on it. Mind you, Scarlett Johansson is unstoppably beautiful in it. You can pretty much look at her extreme state of non-ugliness and ignore all the other stuff that's going on in the film.

I'm not talking about anything so pedestrian as a hot chick with swollen boobs and four cocks in her various holes. I'm talking about beauty, mate. What the poets talk about - except they're usually going on about flowers and whatnot. And who wants to look at flowers when you've got two hours of Scarlett on offer?

Seriously, though, it's a shitty film. Not Bay's shittiest, but not a classic by any stretch. Don't say I didn't warn you, jpt.

The Island isn't horrible. It's definitely the strongest of Bay's films since The Rock. I've said this before, but I'm saying it again. I feel the same about about The Island that a mother must feel about the breakfast her pre-teen kids attempt to cook for her on Mother's Day morning. A cute effort, and it makes a nice change from the usual fighting and breaking stuff, but nowhere near a satisfying meal.

It isn't really a comparison- the IT crowd was just too different to the office. It's not about squirm inducing humour, and it isn't mocumentary. Just damn funny. The one where the 2 IT dorks "caught" PMT off their manager was hysterical. maybe it is because at the time I was working in a heavily IT dominated company, and they all took anty reference to it extremely badly.

All this talk of an "R rated" version is crap
by Ricky Henderson
Apr 5th, 2007
12:25:23 PM
there never was nor will there ever be an R rated cut of this movie. Who makes an R rated version of a movie based on a toy franchise? Bay's just saying it to drum up fanboy excitment. Besides, if you read the script, it's pretty damn slow action-wise. So Bay's claim of it originally being rated R for non-stop intense action scenes is total bunk.
Maybe not
by subgeniuszero
Apr 5th, 2007
12:29:27 PM
Because of several factors. They've already said that the "new" script only has story beats in common with the "old" script that they say is the one everyone's read. Plus, Bay says that he always throws out the action sequences in the script and then goes and writes his own. I don't know how true either of these things are, but wouldn't it be a pleasant surprise if it were so?

Bay never claimed the movie was "R" rated. That was Shia...and he was talking about "Disturbia". This has already been clarified on all the TFer websites. The film has yet to be submitted to the MPAA. (But it will undoubtedly be PG-13.)

I recently saw some stuff by Michael Bay that I didn't know existed. He directed three music videos for -- of all people -- Meat Loaf. They're really cool. Look them up on YouTube if you don't believe me. Yes, they are "standard issue Michael Bay" stuff (most of you would probably diss it, as I know Michael Bay is almost as universally despised here as Uwe Boll is). But, on the positive, they are very pretty to look at. However, if you don't like Meat Loaf, the point is moot. And I STILL think Transformers is going to whoop ass at the box office, regardless of all the haters (no matter how well-founded their hate).

The writer would come on the board and start cozying up to the fans and then he would write something they didn't like and they'd turn on him like a bunch of savages. Then he'd retain whatever fans he had left by putting their stupid suggestions in the comic books. If you are hired to craft stories, should you tell your stories on that basis? Of course you should feel out where the fans are at, where the charaecter is at, but not let it completely dictate your vision. I guess (?) no one thinks those test videos on sector seven are that cool. I assumed we would be arguing as to why those suck as opposed to the "brilliant designs" in the "film" we are getting. Strange thing is, they look absolutely tight as shit - and they haven't even been "updated". No one talking shit as to why they don't work? I know I am alone save for a few, but, strictly on the topic of robot design, I think they work far, far better than the twisted scrapheaps we are getting. Matters not, since the movie is shot and the script sucks above and beyond reproach. But that's ok, since it will make tons of cash and all we lovers of flim really want are vapid, obnoxiously loud films. TINO is based on a toy after all.... No one had ignored the sector seven movies..incase you hadn't noticed half 95% of the talkback has disappeared so just to recap.

The sector seven videos are a little joke. They're very cool but if you seriously think that they represent a better design for a live action movie then you are off your head on some fantastical drug that I would love to get hold of. Can you give me your dealers number?

Like i said to Superninja, who didn't seem to argue, it's cool for a short promo clip, but if anything it's a clear answer as to why the original designs won't work. You complain that all anyone cares about is GIANT FUCKING ROBOTS blowing shit up. It sounds like to me like you wanna see GIANT FUCKING TOYS blow shit up.
Yes the clips were cool

but in terms of design, there's really no point to argue because they were in their alt-mode, not robo-mode. The alt-modes in this movie are REAL cars, just different models, so it's really impossible to say the dinobot or insecticon were better, really, just because they were identical to the cartoon/comic/toy. It guess.

Did GM sign a check and hence have total and complete control in picking the vehicle assignments? No one could say "Nah, Camaro doesn't suit Bumblebee"?

So basically, the looks of the Autobots, loved by millions, were totally decided quantitatively by some GM bean counter looking to push out certain new vehicles??

You seem to be incapable of reading. Maybe if I type slower...I've never, ever said GoBots were as popular as Transformers...ever. I simply pointed out the two franchises merged and despite your views that they sucked, they certainly had their fans. For example, there's a Freddie Prinzr Jnr fanclub; GoBots rank higher than he does.

As for Thundercats, i think you'll find that alot of kids watched that show. More than you seem to believe anyway. It ran for a while and it also had a comic; if i remember right it ran partially IN the UK Transformers comics as one of their 'guest stories'. Anyway, Thundercats are huge. Transformers huge? Not sure. Why not do that google thing you did yesterday and let us know.

When the talkback is restored we can go through it. You claimed that gobots sucked. Fair enough. In the same breath you said you wanted 2 of them. At no time did i suggest that your desire to own two toys that supposedly sucked was indicative of their popularity with mainstream audiences. You were the one arguing they weren't popular because they sucked...i simply said, there were people out there that did like them, that Hasbro bought the licence and they couldn't really suck that much if they made you want 2 of em? Transformers vs. Grindhouse as fun theater experiences
by moto
Apr 6th, 2007
12:38:17 AM
Wrote this at Moriarty's Grindhouse review and thought it fitting.

Talking about enjoying Transformers as nothing more than a fun theater experience vs. watching Grindhouse the same way.

" I'll go so far as to bring up fanboys' hate for Transformers. Even when people like me say, "Hey, I just wanna go to a fun flick and see robots fucking transform and kickass", fanboys scream "If that's all you want, then you're part of the problem of Hollywood making shitty movies." Well my friends, if you're against Transformers and hold that opinion against people who do want to just have a blast seeing it, and then go against anyone that talks down to GRINDHOUSE basically as being nothing more than big names making a vanity piece on shitty movies, then you my friends ARE hypocrits. Sorry to say. "B-but... it's different with Grindhouse. It's QT. It's an homage to..."

.., an homage to, shitty movies. Hey, I'm not ripping on people that will have a fun theater experience. Nothing wrong with that at all. Fun is good. But it's just funny to see A) What HYPE AICN can create on movies that they even admit are crappy, and B) How when the tables are turned on certain TBers (i.e. Transformers vs. Grindhouse support), the justifications that they stand by for one film doesn't really apply to any others that they aren't looking forward to. "But with Transformers we're talking about source material that stems from our childhood... yada yada yada". I'm not talking about that (I'm a HUGE fan of G1). I'm talking about a general movie going fun experience.. which can happen just as much with Transformers as with Grindhouse.

songs to all of them. I was really hoping the 80s stuff would live up to the potential of the concepts, and almost all of them failed in my opinion. Although again, I thought the MOTU stories were very well crafted - better than the actual cartoon, I think. (Except for Teela, who they ruined by anime-ing her and making her seem even younger and angrier than she was even in the cartoon.) I think the guys who did the comics had put up a black and white pencilled comic online YEARS ago that was AWESOME and now of course it is nowhere to be found. They were Italian guys and basically had He-Man and Skeletor disappearing in a last battle and their return to Eternia story opens narrated by an older and wiser Orko who reveals that He-Man has somehow returned to Eternia, grizzled and being not quite the legend he left as. Teela is the Sorceress and was left to hold things together and married King Hiss to keep him from breaching Grayskull. Anyway, it was really beautifully done and they never finished it.

... of, "Is Bay disrespecting the fan core base, or are he and Spielberg making changes to appeal to the masses"? If they are making those kind of changes, which I believe they are, that's not necessarily a bad thing as far as making a kickass action packed fun ride. Then again, that is THE big debate here that NO ONE will win:) I see your point. Totally. And agree for the most part. But then it leads to, well, if you don't go see the movie, then how will you TRULY know it's bad? Unless you rely on others to say what's good and bad. Or you rely on box office numbers. Etc. Fact is, not seeing a movie isn't going to somehow change the way studios think. They want to make money. That's it. No escaping that. You take what you can get. Sometimes it pays off for you as a viewer, sometimes not. But there'll always be shit.

I've maintained the consistency of the character regardless of the series, regardless of the first movie, regardless of the game and regardless of the July 4th opening for the movie. No, Optimus is Optimus and he's not going to change under any circumstances. GS: Okay, so final question. What do you think gives the Transformers such a lasting appeal? PC: I think it was the first [series] to break away from the ordinary--things we had seen that gave your generation an opportunity to imagine far beyond anything else that was out there... In the game you're going to find that you're being led down that imaginary path that you could only watch when you were a kid, but now you can participate in and actually become a part of the form and function of the plot and the outcome. There was that needle in the haystack and the writers [on Transformers], they were brilliant and they found it. And I think it has lasted so many, many years, simply because of its imagination and some of the little messages that come out of it. The writers are amazing. They're just fantastic. What great imagination.

The movie starts with a gigantic plot hole big enough to drive Hillbilly Prime through.

Let's review, Jor-El told Reevesman that he had been dead for eons or millenia or something, anyway, a really long fucking time, cuz Clark was apparentely travelling at near lightspeed to get to Earth so it took that long to get here. Jump ahead to SR and Clark somehow made it to Krypton and back in 5 years.....WTF!?!? What's worse is that the Brando audio they re-used when Lex visits the Fortress repeats the eons/millenia thing, they fucking acknowledge the plothole in their own goddam movie!!

Airplane rescue and the boat lift are the only things worth watching in the whole movie, although I have to admit the speech Clark gives Superboy at the end chokes me up a little because of my kids.

If you're interested, here's a couple pix I took last April 06 in Cleveland during second unit shooting of the armored bank truck sequence. SPOILER First pic shows Spidey slinging away from the accident scene, while the second reveals Sandman's stunt double on a ladder, where, oddly enough, he's the guy who yanks stunt-Spidey into the air. Plenty more where these came from. I volunteered giving all my photos to Harry and AICN last year, but I never got a response.

Many years have passed since Kryptons destruction, the remains Superman went to visit where not stated to be in the same place as the original planet, given the force of the explosion and the fact that during the opening credits we see chinks of Krypton flying along with us it is safe to assume that its position has well and truly shifted. Also as revealed in the annual it was all a lie perpetuated by Luthor to take revenge against him and steal some years of his life in return for what Kal had done to him. I love SR the hate it garnered really shocked me, it is most assuredly consistent to its own internal logic, to the extent you can be with a story about a flying alien god.

I obviously meant Chunks, my cheeks are red. I also just thought, during the opening credits we also see a fairly large piece of the former planet Krypton smash into a moon, could this be what the scientists where fooled into thinking was the remains of Krypton?. Anyway I love SR, stil, I wish other Supes fans could embrace it, it is cinematically frickin LOTR for superheros. Batman Begins is a brilliant Batman film but Superman returns is a brilliant Comic book movie, maybe the best ever, maybe it was too different?, oh and with Superman saying he would never leave and now being shown to do so it makes him flawed, imperfect and in my opinion much more interesting for it.

LOTR also has a similar structure, allowing the action to flow with the characters action, not with words, a bit like a comic too. I loved Bosworth and disagree about Singer he is an amazing director and every moment of every scene has meaning. To compare SR to IV is just mean man and I wont touch it! I quite liked 3 though. I like he had a child out of wedlock, life happens to us all, also I like how if Clark had done his job and investigated the blackouts he could have saved himself a whole big job later on. I also think showing people being sad or hurt is not to be dismissed as emo, just human.

And here's why: They treated Superman like a human being. Plus, that opening credit sequence: how fucking cool was that?! Just hearing that theme again rocked my world, and the trip through space was great fun, too. I thought Ottman's take on John William's themes was solid, unlike a lot of other people.

The story arc felt very tight and complete to me. I believed everything I was seeing. Unlike a lot of people, I tend to forgive continuity flaws as long as what I'm being shown *now* is consistent with itself, and I thought SR was just that.

The production design was beautiful, and the action sequences well done. They actually managed to generate some thrill for me. But that's just me; others feel differently, I know.

Spacey, I thought, made a good Lex. He was menacing and evil and scary. They actually managed to make him bitter and petty, the way Lex ought to be (at least the Lex from the films, not the comics). I would have preferred the "humanist" Lex from the comics (where he believes in the human potential to aspire and achieve, and sees Superman as "cheating the system", so to speak), but I didn't get that, and I'm fine with it.

All in all, I love the film, and would love to see Singer direct MAN OF STEEL.

Just my essay-length two cents worth.

It gets mega points for the Avengers sequence and Gwen Stacy in the rain during the Atlantian invasion. Those panels actually stuck with me long after I put it down. Now I admit Kingdom Come is a good story, but its sort of hateful toward the characters. As "the last JLA story" in Elseworlds is where it belongs. Frank Miller and Alan Moore made hating superheroes uber popular, so I put it on them. Although Alan Moore has done his time with his ABC line.

You totally feel for Reeve's Superman, but he's a nice guy, he does the right thing even when he has to make difficult choices - that's who the character is. SR problem is that it acts like those values are passe, it doesn't think anyone cares about or can identify with that kind of thing anymore (any maybe they're right), however, that's the whole point of Superman. that butch, of course some of them could be - diversity and all. Their warrior culture is largely defensive in nature, they are isolated, there is no reason for them to be so overtly militaristic. Only as they have become more modernized have they become an island of overly aggressive large marges. Diana's powers are supernatural, they are not genetic. Diana should look about as butch as any other highly trained female in the DCU. Which basically means they should look like Bond women, tall, athletic, but very feminine (it's beauty of Aphrodite, not hermaphrodite, Mr Ross). My main issue with Ross's work (and I used to be a big fan when it first came out) is that you can tell he uses the same model, there is little differentiation. It becomes more noticable when you attempt realism. And his Wonder Woman looks like Mr. Ross used himself for the model. Rosie is way hotter than that, for shame, anchorite! Not to say I want them to look like that grrrl power ridiculousness, like Buffy. That was cute, like, ONCE and then everybody copied it and now it's super annoying. Almost as annoying as getting WB Abercrombie models to play grown superheroes.

the character is about and stands for, the rest of us should be? Wrong way around, buddy. That is what attracted people worldwide to the Superman character to begin with, the fact that you and others cannot separate it from the America of today is revealing of your own prejudices. You cant ruin character by giving depth or by paralleling reality, that's just grounding, I am not angry just as I said constantly surprised people cant see what a gem of a film Superman Returns is. Writers created Superman and it is there hands he lives, to say he cat do this or would not do that is to claim you know the character better than others, when others might just say you are not seeing the big picture. I am English and do not think I am in anyway past the things the character stands for, nor did I say that, I said that maybe America of today does not represent very well what Superman stands for.

by Doc_Strange

America was built on the blood of the natives who welcomed the settlers and what did they do? They slaughtered almost all the native American tribes and stole their land. From what I understand, the Alamo is built on Native American bone fragments. So when Ozzy Osbourne took a piss all over it, I was glad. You have to realize that there is a price for living the "American Way". It's not all about freedom and righteousness that's for DAMN sure. I'm just glad these people have finally gotten a hold of their land and are now starting to play the white man's game by opening their own casinos and making millions in the process in order to make a better life for themselves and their tribes. I'm sure some idiot will tell me to get over it but that's just ignorance and pretentious flag waving bullshit which one day soon will become moot because there will be no more America.

I love Superman but he was a one dimensional character and you always knew what he would do, giving him some emotional turmoil is good for him, I do agree a superhero smack down would have worked for me too though. I thought the whole film was very much about Superman's character, it showed us again how really human he is, the ultimate irony as well that he left to find his home and by doing so left his home is quite canny. I understand you not liking the film cinematic-ally but to pick certain lines and spin them into more than they are is to miss the point of the very entertaining film. Non of his actions in the movie where out of character to me, he showed love and restraint by not kissing Lois, even for a moment when all he must have wanted to do was embrace her.

those Sector Seven videos are fantastic - especially the Grimlock one.............in no way does it represent what a better Transformers film could have been - but it shows how much greater a Bay style film would have been if he stuck closer to the OG designs........the film itself wouldn't have had to change one bit...............but as for the fucked up designs we are getting - all lack of faithfullness aside - some are just plain horrid.........how can anyone spending 38 hours per frame of robot on film not see the weirdness between some of their legs - I dont know if Optimus has a cock or a conch, but theres definately something weird happening there............this film has tried in earnest to fix things that weren't broken and have come out with some very ugly looking results.............hey, maybe they're making the Autobots the females in this 'reimagining'................. ...................as for Superman and the American way - I totally agree with Smashing's first post on the issue (but not he others)............taking out the "American way" part (across the board, not just the movie) greatly opens Superman, and what he stands for, to the world............Superman can represent the potential good in all people - or as Frank Miller did a great job of warning us in DKR - Superman can stand for blind patriotism...........so I think the decision to leave off the American Way part was genius.......it lets Superman be bigger than America - be proud of that

The American way that Superman exemplifies is one of a Eisenhower era America that never existed, but Republicans insist does and wishes would return. I think this movie did really well over seas, but I really don't think the omission of "the American way" had nothing to do with it. The movie was boring...I don't really think that the tempid box office here had anything to do with "mythos", just Supes' mundane, boring--scratch that--VERY BORING pathos. Oh, and one more thing: The "American Way" has been co-oped by xenophobic, sweaty palmed neo-con child molesting minions of George Bush. I think it was Samuel Johnson that said, "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scandal."

All nations feel like that about there image, its not exclusively an American thing, do you really think any country would like to think of it's self as whiny and emo?, brushing right past Bliars recent actions in Iran obviously, but to that his leash master more than likely had him to heel. So, just as we accept and love Superman, we do so with the American dream, the one I have been seeing and hearing about since I was a kid in the 70's and my only fun came from you're much cooler TV and comics, mostly! Actually what Superman was was hurt, he was confused and he was angry but unable to take direct action, I think that in a way does describe America and even the whole bloody world right now. Now its as if America has turned it's back on everyone at the party and wont talk. I in no way meant to knock a whole country, I do like America and what it stands for and that's why I like the thought that other countries can access a character that exposes those values and ideas.

The island was not pure Kryptonite, it has been chemically changed when heated and combined with the control crystal during the explosion, then fused with the sea bed creating another form of Kryptonite. The knife was a pure shard of Kryptonite, taken straight from the meteorite sample of the planet itself, hence did much more damage. We where shown the island had a slower negative effect during the sequence where he crash lands and gets beaten up, it does not kill him straight away, it weakens him. A lot of this is all there in the film, you just have to look.

What I do think is we live in times of more complex interpersonal connections and interactions and we all know that what things appear to be on the surface they rarely are. I do like Superman's costume, I just like the latest incarnation more than whichever one you dig. Chinese nuclear threat quote
by MrJJonz
Apr 6th, 2007
05:41:32 PM
made by Gen Zhu in 2005.

“If the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition on to the target zone on China's territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons,”

“We . . . will prepare ourselves for the destruction of all of the cities east of Xian. Of course the Americans will have to be prepared that hundreds . . . of cities will be destroyed by the Chinese.”

I personally think the the Chinese probably have a rather large nuclear capability which hasn't been subject to any disarmament programs in recent times like US. Just because they are generally a little bit quieter on the world front (at least to the general western populace) doesn't make them any less of a threat. How many weapons would really be needed to take down the US?

China's development of anti-satellite (ASAT) capabilities has also raised concerns about China's missile and related military space program. On 11 January 2007, China successfully carried out a test of a direct ascent anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon, by using a ballistic missile to destroy an aging weather satellite in orbit approximately 500 miles above the Earth's surface.

China is estimated to have about 400 strategic and tactical nuclear weapons, and stocks of fissile material sufficient to produce a much larger arsenal

In the prime Directive script I'll give it you just give me your e-mail address and about a hour to get home. The Humans take up 75% of the movie and the more then meets the Eye too damn much. That is the only nod ther are refernces to Yahoo, E-bay, and all the autobots save for prime are Noticable GM cars. No Nods to G1-isms and Jazz Dies in the climax. Oh yead and Sam (the NON spike ) kills megatron.

And they dont need to worry about opinion polls and elections. (But then Bush never won an election so hey....) They would just do it. Being American (which I assume you are) you think the world envies you, and THATS why they hate you. You are sadly very mistaken. I know im going to face a lot of shit by saying this (because you are all fucking yanks, and yanks like to gang up on small countries ahem.. sorry, people) but the reason why all Chinese dont want to emigrate to the US, is because the US is filled with.... Maybe your co-worker was in the USA because HE HAD A JOB there? I have spoken to a lot of Chinese people who want to go to America, though normally its out of some morbid curiosity. Not because the American dream holds (or ever did) hold any substance.

The highest portion of the population here in China however have absolutely no desire to go to America whatsoever. Infact most of them are happy pretending you dont exist. You need to STOP believing you live in a perfect country, and you need to stop thinking everyone wishes they were American.

I am English, and I sure as fuck am delighted I am not American. I also happen to live in China. I like to think of myself as having the best traits of both cultures. I've been to a fair number of countries, and most people have the same opinion of the US. And it isnt envy. Most people think the US is dirty (in terms of ethics), immoral, disrespectful, incredibly greedy and (my favourite) impossibly ignorant. Hu Jin Tao is not my best friend, but if you compare what the China government does for the people of China, compared to what Bush does in the US, Jin Tao certainly comes out top in my book.

I talk about the ignorant Americans, and WHEY HEY! here you are. You continually fart on about the countries you should be worried about. This isn't fucking Warcraft. The first thing you think about a country (and you get this from your President) is "how big is their military?). And THEN you base your opinion on the answer. America isn't #1 (whatever that means). I believe the news was reported in your country that the protesters were unarmed... is this true? Well actually its not true at all. Do some research yourself. And Krack, Censored means you can't see it. Restriced means you can see it, but its not layed out on display everywhere for all to see. If a part of a film is CENSORED, you cant see it. The smugness came across in your answer with the assumption that Americans are unable to look beyond their media/information norms. No biggie.

In a way, this kind of answers your second question...which basically turns into a "my media is better than your media" type of scenario. Just substitute "foreign countries" for "Americans" in my previous sentence.

I think that it's good that you can access information regarding the T.S. event. That country, China, has incredible potential. I hope the powers-that-be over there can help further progress peacefully in the years to come.

Krack displays the intelligence of a 2yr old. Yes bribes are a part of everyday life. Although its not bribes in a shady way. America has plenty of Bribes. How many females have had to do things they shouldn't in order to progress in their jobs? How many times has a certain figure been transfered from one back account to another in a company? In China however, a little red envelope containing cash is really not seen as anything bad. Its because at Chinese New year, little red envelopes containing cash are always handed around. Its called 'lucky money'. Its the same as giving presents at Christmas. Are you telling me that the mainstream media in the US is absolutely free to show whatever they want? The government doesn't control what people see or read about? Why then do you think the student protesters at Tiannamen Square were unarmed. Because that makes the commies look worse. Or, why does the PENTAGON have to approve every American war film, or film containing Military representation or hardware before it can get released? Why is their a Military guy on the set of your war films? Seems to me like going TOO far can get you yanks in trouble too.

You asked: Why do you support the war in iraq?

Krack writes: "Because I know, just like you know, that the instant there's another terrorist attack on US soil, those 29% approval ratings will go to somewhere in the 88% range. The american people are fickle, they don't think about things until it affects them personally and immediately."

also he writes: "I'm a terrible person because I'm pleased there hasn't been a terrorist attack on US soil since 2001. And i'm ignorant because I believe we would have had one had there not been US military action in the Middle East. And I'm also ignorant because I hear information like "the British Intelligence Services believe Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, our US Intelligence Services think it's possible, but we can't prove it" and say "Well, Hussein's an awful dictator anyway. Let's just remove him and make sure he doesn't have any nukes." Yup, that makes me a fool. A fool who hasn't seen a terrorist attack on his soil in seven years."

Not sure when the last time China invaded Afghanistan and Iraq within like a year of each other, but if they did that, they would be copying the worst aspects of the west. Invading Iran too would be taking it up a notch. Bush is easily worse than Hu Jin Tao, Deng Xiao Ping and Jiang Zemin combined.

Justifications for going to Iraq.
by Colonel Activity
Apr 7th, 2007
03:09:19 PM
Almost every point that could be made has proven to be invalid. Whenever the argument is trotted out that "intelligence agencies, including the British, thought the Iraq had WMDs" I want to puke in someone's shoes. As has been shown time and time again as officials are coming forward and the documents are being uncovered, the intel was "fixed around" the idea to go to war. It was no secret to anyone that follows politics that neo-cons want America to begin a new sort of manifest destiny. PNAC layed it all out there. To say that the mainstream media is liberal is absolutely ridiculous. If they truly were liberal, then the pressure would be bearing down to impeach Bush right now. This is a man whom almost all historians ranked as one of the worst presidents of all time...before the 2004 elections. The press ate the tripe that the administration fed to the public. If anyone would have even looked at the situation in the Middle East, they would see the glaring fact that Saddam couldn't have been in cahoots with al Qaeda. Why? Well, Saddam was a street thug who murdered his way up the food chain to his golden bidet. Al Qaeda is led by a guy that came from a filthy rich family, but he gave up everything to be a religious zealot. So...a secular dictator and a religious fanatic are supposed to be partners? You have to be shitting me. The fact is, Saddam hated al Qaeda. The UN argument...well, guess what country has disobeyed the UN more than any other country in the world? Would you believe Israel? Our buddies. Why don't we invade them? Right now, American forces are in the middle of a civil war between Sunnis (backed by Saudi Arabia) and Shiites (backed by Iran). There are very few "terrorists" that attack American forces; that's just what FOX "News" wants you to believe. If you read only just a little bit, you could have seen that this whole premise for the invasion was shit. I figured it out, and I was 22 at the time...and drunk nearly 6 days out of 7.

Yeah, all the flag waving, jingoistic shit stopped right when we went to Afghanistan. In 2003, the Dixie Chicks couldn't even say that they hated Bush without getting crucified. That really sounds like a country that's questioning their leaders. And if you've forgotten, there's pictures of Rummy shaking hands with Saddam in the 80s. If you think that Cheney and Falwell are coming up with a game plan together, then you know nothing about today's political landscape. Neo-cons like Cheney and their ilk worship at the altar of CAPITALISM. They don't give a shit about religion. They just want their votes since the rest of the country is too intelligent for them. The word quagmire didn't appear until the run-up to the 2004 elections, when we were in a quagmire. I guarantee you. And as far as Fox "News", it's their blatant spin that pisses everyone off. "Fair and balanced" is the biggest crock of shit I've ever seen. Just because people see through the lies and bull shit doens'tmake them liberal. For instance, since the war is going horribly and NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, and PBS are reporting on it, does that make them liberal? That's what Fox "News" says. They always say, "They never report the good news," yet the only time I see a positive story about the war on FOX is when Ollie North interviews someone, trying to distract the public from another Bush blunder. This president is worse than Nixon, worse than Carter, shit, even worse than Ronnie Raygun, the man who's done more harm to this country than any other president. That is, of course, not counting Chimpy McFlightsuit.

VW wouldn't clear the rights, because they don't want their products depicted as war machines. but, Bay does include a nice "fuck you" to VW by including a Bug sitting next to Bumblebee, to signal and remind people of the connection and make it an issue. problem is, you're stupidly blaming the wrong guy.

by Style_92
Apr 7th, 2007
06:53:05 PM
In the script, Prime mentions that the Transformer's REAL names are unpronouncible (by humans) blocks of mathematical patterns. Therefore, the names are TRANSLATED into english. and as any one who's translated from one language to another know, that's a fluid and not neccissarily one-to-one process. So, Bonecrusher's real name may refer to concepts only making sense to transformers, (something like "nanotechnological support frame destabilizer,") but the name was translated into something that would both make more sense and be terrifying to humans.

They still couldn't clear the rights.

the ice caps on Mars melting. The scientist who had studied it suggests that the sun is getting hotter. There is also an Israeli astrophysicist who has done research on global temperature patterns and found that as the sun goes through solar cycles its magnetic field increases and wanes. The magnetic field provides a buffer for Earth against cosmic radiation and he attributes this to changes in the Earth's temperatures historically, I think he is still doing research. That is to say everyone agrees that climate change occurs what they disagree on in man's contribution to it. Obviously there is a whole lot of money in global warming as well.

And here's some hard science for everyone, we would lower CO2 throughout the world by cutting down old trees and then replacing then with new ones. Trees absorb CO2 throughout their lives and release oxygen, when they die they absorb oxygen and release all the CO2 they absorbed as part of the natural decay process, it's a 1 to 1 balance, there is no positive gain. So all these Hollywood assholes buying carbon offsets are also full of shit.

I also don't have any particular like for this material, or nostalgia for it. I've been screamed at in talkback over this before. I'm not going to be dismissive of the original cartoon, since it's obviously important to many of you. It's just not something I have any regard for it in particular.

In the end, I'll judge this as a movie. And I do like these particular images, and some of the new material we're seeing in commercials. If this is a good giant-robots-breaking-shit movie, that might be enough for me. I'm just not watching it with any sort of nostalgia filter in place, so don't be surprised if I'm not here in the talkbacks acting upset about whatever choices are being made.

Frankly, the entire human race is full of idiots becoming dumber by the moment. And your posts seem to drain more brain cells than alcohol and marijuana combined. Yeah... he's SUCH a huge fan of the Transformers franchise. You can tell from the reverence with which he speaks about the iconic characters and the legendary voice actors behind them. :P The sad thing is, the movie will probably do well on its opening weekend simply because nobody ever thinks anymore to demand money back on a bad movie. Once Monday comes around and water cooler chat has killed the hype, the film will be dead and replaced by something else a week from the Friday after, at the latest. I only hope it's not too long before someone with talent and reverence picks up the rights. Or maybe Spielberg will replace everyone (Bay, Murphey - everyone) for the sequels?

You know that scientist commisioned from the UN that Al Gore likes to quote? How come that scientist says the world's water levels will rise 23 inches if the ice caps melt and Al Gore says it will rise like 20 feet, and that he's quoting that same scientist? Who's lying here? And another thing, since ice displaces more water than water does, doesn't that mean the water levels should actually lower rather than rise?

BTW, more people die from cold each year than heat, and the growing season is extended, meaning more potential food growth. Yeah, this whole 1 degree on average warming trend over the last 100 years is an absolute disaster.

Yeah it's happening, but all the ASSHOLES and political BULLSHIT that has been attached to that 1 degree is ridiculous. Did I mention it's only 1 degree?

I'm not going to deny that the CGI is topnotch work, but what else should we expect from ILM? Except for the seemingly featherweight "Starscream" on the bridge scene, the CGI in this thing is just as good as it should be coming from the pioneers of such technology. The animators did a great job creating life-like things that are supposed to be Transformers, so fucking what.

The robots running and walking, hell even the transforming is great CGI animation, but you think Starscream looks good when he flips onto the bridge? He looks like a friggin cartoon gorilla there, and I'm not even talking about his overall gorilla appearance. There's a funky cartoony, very fake look to the way he swings up there. There's just no feeling of weight or anything, unlike the superb job that was done making King King, another giant gorilla thing, look gigantic and heavy like he should.

Ironic isn't it, they made Starscream look like a cartoon. LMFAO

I have yet to see a movie with it. Every time there is extensive CGI, its blatantly obvious that its CGI.
The only time CGI seems to be effectively used is when its used as a support device, like in Blades of Glory with the spins and all that. But when its full-on CGI like Jar Jar, its NEVER photo-realistic or believeable.

I pointed out twice already that in poll interest in this move is dwarfed almost 4 to 1 by Spiderman 3. I've seen poll in a list of movies to see this fall under SM3, shrek3, and PoTC3. As for most downloaded. That teaser was a piece o shit in the theater i went to it garned Chuckles thats about it. the second trailer was F'n lame. the Third the one that Bay wanted me to see that detract all the haters Failed miserably. Gany youre troll. Plain and simple there is no way any human being with half a brain cell could honestly enjoy that script so unless you ride the short bus to school theres no way you don't have the slightest objection to that tripe. Do I want this movie to fail. If it sucks hel yes I want it to fail I dont want TF's to have to suffer Transformers PT. Duex by Micheal bay in 3 years. But if this movie was being handled by a verteran director that didn't have a general disdain for the source material I wouldn't have a problem but he didn't want the project to begin with that does not bode well for any project.

I was just getting mildly spanked (somewhere Shia LaBeouf just got a woody) for pointing out that the AICN editors no longer have complete carte blanche to point out crap.

Nonsense. Bay already assumes I hate his movies sight unseen. We have carte blanche to write anything we want, and we do. But just because you feel a certain way about TRANSFORMERS doesn't mean we're obligated to echo you, any more than we're obligated to echo something a studio says.

As I've said... repeatedly... I don't care about this film one way or another. If it's a rotten film, I'll say so once I've seen it. If it's a fun film, I'll say so once I've seen it. In the meantime, you're expending vast amounts of energy on it, but that doesn't mean we have to. Quint seems to be the most interested of any of us, and even he's hardly jumping up and down calling it the second coming. He seems to like the robot mayhem he's seen. Beyond that, I don't recall him ever giving it some blanket endorsement.

More and more, it seems like you want us to be your parrots, and if we're not, then we've "sold out." Au contraire. I reserve the right to have my own opinion on this or GRINDHOUSE or any other film that comes out, and I won't be bullied by fandom any more than I will be by publicists.

Even if Gany, Bay and Murphy are the only ones to go see it and not demand their money back, that's still $30 they wouldn't make if it's not released. lol Straight-to-video quality, brought to ya on the BIG screen! YEAH!! :P All I can say is: if you go to see it, when you're disappointed - and you will be - demand your money back. That's what the really big film releases seem to spend these days. The studios end up with approximately 55 cents of every box office dollar, which would put the break-even point around $550 million worldwide. Definitely reachable for a film of this magnitude, pre-existing fanbase, and name recognition, even if the film turms out only so-so. Plus the studio obviously also will make lots of money off the DVD's and merchandise tie-ins.

...so I can see a making of for the PUSSY ON OPTIMUS. ILM CG Animator: "When Mike and Don came to us and said to throw out all the iconic designs, replace them with complete shit, and then put female genitals on them, we were blown away by the challenge. Even though it was daunting, we think the end result of our effort is our best work to date. I think the labia and clit are especially well done, and it really makes the overall design of Optimus Prime look less blocky and more realistic"

Is it the face of that other robot in the picture up there? Cuz that don't look like any "face" I've ever seen. And I thought Megatron's face was indiscernable when those pictures leaked. Yikes!

Suddenly, the PUSSY ON OPTIMUS makes more sense, as does the casting of Shia, and Murphy's man tits. This film clearly has a deeper message about the inner conflict of those who are "built" one way, but live another. I think sometimes we all wish we could "Trannyform" just for a little while.
Robots with Vaginas...just what the world needs.

Whether the film is good or not, or whether or not it is a faithful adaptation are entirely different questions.
I'm not sure it's possible to do a faithful adaptation.

At this point the Transformers have become like long running comic books characters that have gone through several different looks, styles, and feels. There is no way to reconcile it all.
Personally, the Transformers movie gives me an ID4 vibe

Or for human interest appeal, are there going to be human characters working with both robot sides in the war?

The Humans are much more then colateral Damage they occupy more then 75% of the movies story, and Dialouge.
I'm just wondering what part they will play in the plot

It's been a while since I actually watched or read any of the existing Transformer stuff, but I seem to recall humans were very peripheral to the storylines.

making the Humans very prevelent in this story. So much so you don't see the Autobots till about 30 to 45 minutes into the movie.
But when you do see the Autobots...
