Simply because it looks better on film, the "mist" Darabont is using is a combination of coal dust and pulverized fiberglass insulation.
That was great. Except I would have loved SPOILERS

Wait, what? I don't know if that's a joke or not. Because from what I understand, that's basically the stuff that gave 9/11 syndrome to all the workers that went down there.

I was just kidding. Definitely not true. It was a joke along the lines of Letterman's Top Ten Ways MacDonald's is Being More Health-Conscious: "Removing the decorative bowls of mercury from the tables."
Great report, Quint! Next best thing to being there.

Probably better, actually, because I don't have to wait around patiently for the next cool thing to happen. Seeing how the crew has to blend real shots with upcoming FX has to be interesting to watch. And pardon my ignorance here as it's probably been said, but what's the release time-frame for this?
Nice report Quint.

Loved the pic of the spider. This gonna be cool. A 90 minute mad rush from start to finnish.

Blarney Man - spoilers? Dude, he warned ya - read the story, you won't be dissapointed.

NOW WHERE IS THE FUCKING INDY SCRIPT?!?!?!?!

...I found it funny that in some of the set pictures, the crew members are wearing protective breathing masks. I can just imagine the sense of security that would instill in the actors.

"Uh, Mr. Darabont, sir? Why does the entire crew have oxygen tanks? Is this stuff okay to breath? You said you were using humidifiers. This is just water, right?"

Darabont: "Did you sign the liability release form Martha handed out?"

Actor: "Yes."

Darabont: "Then it's just water."

The photo of the webbed corpse on a shelf with toys reminded me of the scene cut from the theatrical run of Alien that showed crew members turning into alien eggs over time, only in this photo, cocooned people are turning slowly into plush animals.
I thought they'd shoot everything 'clean'.

Boy Quint, this was a great way to wrap it all-being IN the Mist. Those shots were great, and that little shot of the spiders was great- it's enough to keep me guessing at their multiple eyes and rotted human-like teeth. It's the talk of these creatures that makes me wish these guys at Cafe FX and all would do some work on the creatures from 'From A Buick 8.' If they could do this what sounds like monster mania here, I would love to see their take on FaB8's 'Bat creature,' let alone the 'wrinkled yellow nightmare.' Btw, any chance we could have some kind of contest to win stuff for or from the film? I recommend a 'draw a creature from the Mist' contest-aka draw something you think could be inside the Mist. Either draw your interpretation of a Lobstrocity, or a completely different creature. If you make it so, it'll give me an excuse to finally break out my skills in Maya.
Quint. Thankyou.

I posted previously how i was worried about cheap looking tentacles flapping around but i now can't wait for this. The descriptions of scenes gets me giddy. Now make The Talisman please Mr Darabont!!!

It's over?!?! Crap Quint! I have really enjoyed the coverage on this film....and noe it's over? :( Maybe it's because I liked the story so much, but i'm really looking forward to November. I for one, appreciate your efforts in covering this for AICN. And i'm sure there are a lot of hoops to jump thru when it comes to stuff you can post here. I do hope however, that you stole one of the spiders for the AICN mascot! :D Thanks Frank and Quint for all the info on The Mist.

aintitcool.com ran into some trouble at approximately 4am CST. a drive array "went south" and we are currently recovering about 48hrs worth of stories and talkbacks. this will not affect posting from this moment on. the site will work normally. editors can post stories, talkbackers can post chatter, etc.

... Looks like they've turned The Mist onto one'a those "Oh God! Spiders! Spiders Everywhere!" flicks like Arachnophobia or Eight Legged Freaks. The Mist had a wider variety of creatures than just big spiders.
Anything new?
