I was joking. At least I didn't say 'Third' or use a talkback space only to call others names because I'm not a jackoffasaur. Yup, I'm being ironic. What I really meant to say is that AICN seems to be pulling another 'any news is cool news' and because of personal connections to a filmmaker, will attempt to drown us in the most insignifigant glimpse, however poor quality or meaningless, into the filmmaking process. In this case, it's 2 poor-as-fuck mobile phone camera quality pix of a film I'd like to look forward to seeing. But so far, I've got nothin. And I'm not talking about Robert Downey Jr. who I really like. I've read a good deal of Iron Man and I just don't want to be disappointed like I was with Daredevil which I was looking forward to much more having read a great deal of that comic as well. So I'll get excited when I see a trailer or get my hands on a script. Cause at this point, all 3 of us have done little more than waste our and every AICN reader's time. At least I admit it.

iron man doesn't share his armour because he doesn't trust the tech in the hands of others. it's also why he's not supposed to have a patent on the tech, because then he'd need to divulge the specs. there was a rather big story about it called 'the armour wars' where the suit armour was copied by various other people, including good guys, and stark went around beating them all up and destroying their stuff. he can be a compete bastard, but that's what makes him more interesting than a majority of other classic superheroes!

Anyone who is displeased with Robert Downey Jr as Stark is a jackass of immeasureable proportions. The fact that they managed to get an actor of Downey's talent to play this character elevates what could have been a Ghost Rider-level piece of crap into potentially the best superhero movie franchise going. Add in Terence Howard and Jeff Bridges and it's obvious that God loves Iron Man. If they manage to get Downey Jr to play Stark in the Ultimates movie they keep talking about I will have my first male multiple orgasm since I banged that tranny hooker that one time. but the "all-star cast complete w/ osacars" is the least reliable factor when it comes to Marvel flicks. Hulk, anyone? Not keen on bashing Ang Lee's flick (I actually enjoyed it somehow, I leave that to the others) but the Bana/Nolte/Connelly cast was the big thing, remember? I'm definitely convinced with the casting of Downey: acting-wise he's on a fucking winning streak right now: Kiss kiss bang bang, Zodiac... he's back for good. But the rest of the cast is not impressing me that much: Paltrow is re-hashing her part in Sky Captain, Terrence Howard is nothing like the real Rhodes, and I can't picture the Dude in a suit of armor... As for Favreau, he's a terrific actor but c'mon his movies so far are shitty as hell. I'm not expecting that much from the direction, that kind of project needs a James Cameron. And Favreau's reactionary rant toward CGI is a joke. Now it all depends in the script. Fingers crossed!

i've been collecting the hulk for years, and the title has constantly gone off in tangents, with the whole theme and tone reimagined, and i thought ang lee carried on much in that tradition and managed to inject originality into it while also keeping quite classic hulk moments in it like the desert fight. i for one am a little disappointed that ang lee is to be followed up by the director of transporter and danny the dog.

Aside from the casting (like I said, so many shitty blockbusters managed to lure in great names...) Fav' got Stan Winston Studios, Matthew Libatique as DP and perhaps the criminally underrated John Debney for the score... As the first Marvel flick completely financed by Marvel, it smells and looks quite good, but all depends on the script... I don't get it Harry, you managed in the past 6 years to review the unproduced scripts, and when it finally comes into production you can't get your hands on it? Not to mention that Favreau is a friend of yours... Forget the un-informative set visits, review the script for christ's sake!

I agree. Ang Lee's Hulk wasn't that bad, it's definitely better than X3 or the Craptastic 4, not to mention DareDevil or Ghost Rider... Why people still praise DD director's cut (as lousy as the original cut, just longer) and keep bashing Hulk is beyond me. Ang Lee was perhaps a little out-of -place here, but that Leterrier hack is 100 times worse. The guy is completely uncapable of being subtle (see Danny the dog) and without Corey Yuen his action scenes won't show anything but Taxi-like crappiness. Hulk deserves some kind of subtle emotional treatment with angry action scenes, not the 2 hrs roller-coaster ride with a "cooler Hulk" they're promising. Hulk may be flawed, but Hulk 2 will be far worse.

This was when the Saturn came out -- mid '90s, right? I used it for about a year and got bored. I hate to disagree, but Terrence Howard has nothing remotely charismatic. Can you picture him as the lead of a $100M+ blockbuster? Cause I can't. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for Rhodey IF and only IF he kicks some asses as War Machine in the sequels. BTW, does anyone else here thinks it's TOO SOON to consider sequels? The shooting hardly started and they keep talking about the possible sequels, without the slightest clue about the audience reaction to the first movie... 2008 is the summer of the next Batman movie with the fuckin Joker; IM will be a tough sell considering it's another billionaire average guy with no powers, a controversial cast and the property is very little known overseas.

About Downey in a tux... the same could have been said for Sean Connery in 1960. He was a lumbering, balding truck driver when they cast him as James Bond, but they sent him to the gym, gave him a rug and tailored a monkey suit, and Edinburgh's least famous milkman became an icon. I have faith in Downey for just about any role. That said, I don't know exactly what this role is because my original question remains unanswered. Is he made of iron? Is he a superhero or some lunatic in a costume? Does he fight crime? Who is Iron Man?

it could end up very risky. I'm tired of the kiddy comic book movies without any depth or meaning. I'm tired of 30-something actors and actresses acting as if they were teenagers (Cyclops & Jean Grey, anyone?). BUT the "war on terror/Afghanistan" topic is (in the immortal AICN talkBack words) TOO SOON. That's why I was rooting for a Cold War-period movie: we have enough hindsight now to make a fun blockbuster with political views. There's no left or right agenda here: who misses the USSR? On the other hand, I'm not sure a post 9/11 blockbuster would be a good idea. It will inevitably draw criticism fo being too liberal for some, or too neo-con for the others. I have mixed feelings about this but I'd rather watch a movie promoting a controversial message than a dumb, shallow flick.

He's wasted his talent by spending years strung out on drugs, but look at the movies he's done. There are a few average ones, but no 'bad' movies. Forgive my memory, but he was in a movie where he was possessed by the ghosts of four very different people, including Alfrie Woodard and Charles Grodin. He was able to pull this movie off by actually playing five different roles. The movie, a rather dull script, is made completely watchable because of Robt Downey.

Edward Norton. Norton has talent. He was the best thing Kingdom of heaven. though he was encased in all that make up. Superb none the less. But he is the kind of actor that wont do this kind of film. and what's even worse, the moderators of this site along w/most of the talkbackers couldn't do enough to praise the "brillant casting" of Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Why? All I kept hearing was that w/his history of substance abuse Downey, Jr. would be the perfect candidate to portray Stark's struggle w/the demon in the bottle. Uhh...as Olivier once told Hoffman; "It's called acting, my boy." Also, when if ever, has Robert Downey, Jr. put asses in movie theater seats? I'm surprised that w/a 2nd tier character like Iron Man - as far as the general audience is concerned - they didn't put a star in the role as they did w/Nick Cage in Ghost Rider. Did they even approach Johnny Depp?...or if you want older, how 'bout Pierce Brosnan?...and before I hear about Brosnan's age, Downey, Jr. 'aint exactly a spring chicken either, especially when we're talking a franchise here. For Fuck's sake, Terrence Howard who's playing Jim Rhodes in this picture, is closer in appearance & demeanor to Tony Stark than Robert Downey, Jr.!...and before I hear about Howard's skin color, ask yourself who would be more believable as a SCIENTIST w/SUBSTANCE ABUSE issues? Has anyone seen Howard's work? BTW, like Green Lantern, there is a precedent in the comics for a black Iron Man as well...so I don't think it would be that big a shock to fanboys systems if Howard were cast. I don't understand Favreau's decision on this one nor the studio's willingness to risk their money on it. That being said...I still hope all involved mangage to surprise me & somehow do justice to our favorite invincible shell-headed avenger in his big screen debut.

I always felt Iron Man was a boring character, Marvel's attempt to knock-off both Superman and Batman in one superhero (they even originally wanted to call him Steel-Man as in "Man of Steel"). So the only thing that's even got me the least bit interested in this flick is that Favereau has gone to the trouble of getting an Academy Award quality actor like Downey to carry this pup and give an otherwise two dimensional rip-off a little real depth.

This Downey-bashing is really pointless. The guy proved in the past couple of years that he was back to his best level, and as a long time comics reader (and especially IM) I'm really sold to the idea. I admit when I read the news I laughed so hard I realized for the first time how AICN isn't work-safe. But then I watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and it reminded me how good and versatile he was. However, I somehow agree with superninja: it could be considered a cynical move in the first place. But I think it's up to us talkbackers to overcome our cynical postures and move on. So far the "Downey's a cokehead, perfect fit!" angle has been used 8 times out of 10 by haters and/or clueless morons since it was first announced (no offense, I'm refering to no one here - yet). As for Howard being a better choice...No, just no. I can't even picture him as macho enough to play Rhodey. And certainly not enough sophisticated to play Tony. But I admit I'm a little biased here: he's one of these actors we see everywhere since 4-5 years (along with Justin Long, Kal Penn and Mark Ruffalo) that I just can't stand.
