Not knowing (and still not knowing) how to pronounce his last name, i just said "hey, colonel willie sharp!" and his wife laughed at me. oh well. he rules. he provided the one funny line in the entirety of that danny devito/martin lawrence movie from a few years ago.
Wasn't he in a sitcom once?

I'm sure the first time I ever noticed him was in a sitcom starring a woman with a really deep voice. Truly awesome actor, and sounds like a cool guy to have a beer with.

It's great to see him really get some much deserved attention and quality roles in recent years. Rock on.

I wrote a whole load of crap about why Fichtner reminds of michael bay. Maybe he is who michael Bay should look like...if that makes sense?

Also when people say Jerry Bruckheimer the image in my head is of Fichtner...maybe Fichner, Bay and Bruckheimer are all the same person?

He played a Supreme Court candidate on West Wing

Opposite Glen Close a few seasons back. His performance was spellbinding. I thought, here's a guy who is the absolute epitome (politically) of everything I despise, yet I am so completely on his side. And his stint in Empire Falls was equally awesome. This guy rawks. Even in Ultraviolet- which I guess no one wants to remember. I liked it...

You are exactly right. That was a great episode of The West Wing, and it was largely because of him. He's a great actor who makes everything he does better. He made that character far more interesting than most other people could have. If he's in the movie, generally I'll watch it. He was great in Strange Days, Go (one of my particular favorites), Invasion on TV, Contact and even Armageddon. He made Armageddon a better movie just by being in it. And he sounds like a great guy to boot. Keep doing what you're doing William Fichtner. A lot of people love it. ...

Was anyone else totally reading Fichtner's speech patterns? AICN should run a series of interviews with great actors that are just sort of bubbling under star status. That would be cool shit.
For me he'll always be Sheriff Tom Underlay.

With that character he walked a very fine line between being a regular good guy and a total weirdo alien freak. He made that show.

nah, just a reference to Fichtner being a total dick to a TVGuide interviewer. Then again, I think it was Ausiello, and who wouldn't want to bitch slap him? Anyone remember Fichtner in Go? Creepy. Ok, so I do like him as an actor.
