Also, I thought I heard a rumor a few years back that one of the major film studios (perhaps Disney) had bought the film rights to Star Blazers... Any truth to that?... anybody?

Disney has the rights. Supposedly the started planning for a movie last year. Little noise since then. More interestingly, there were rumors of a French produce live action Captain Harlock written by Warren Ellis, but that is supposed to have fallen through.
Scott and Undergrads....

If someone is really into anime and pop culture most news will appear to be old by the time you get it. I go all over the place to find news so there is always some overlap. It would be interesting if say ANN, AonDVD, Scott (and the other sites) all took a break and did not give some of you any news at all for a while. You guys might have to go out in the daylight and talk to the vendors. Has it occurred to you that Scott and the people who run the other sites are fans too? That's a good thing too considering I remember reading an article in the Toronto Star wherein a "journalist" who wrote an article about cos-playing referred to a kid who was going to a con as Ken from Leach. We have the good fortune of an internet with an abundance of news. Of course if you flamed the writers at ANN like you do here you'd get Chris or Zalis or Selenta banning you and deleting your posts - and they would be right for a number of reasons. That said ...get those letters out to Teletoon about Undergrads people. We all need some more Kimmy or Jesse goodness in our lives. Great job again Scott.

Anyone know if Funimation is going to be re-dubbing Slayers before they release the box set?

Except I don't go over to ANN or the other sites much and get 99% of my anime news here. So I appreciate Scott's column and not having to just see a bunch of links. And hey, why not publicize anime in as many places as possible? Is it such a bad thing? Re: Live action Harlock. I know the French and the Italians are somewhat obsessed with Harlock (rightfully so) but that should NEVER be made into a live action movie. Harlock is simply too much of an icon and his cool/macho-ness is purposely depicted to be larger then life to the extent that it can never be portrated by a live actor. That's what anime's are for... Yamato or GE999 might work well though. I'd shout out more then a few "Hell Yeah"s if those properties were put into good hands.

...I and some of my friends got a note by email from Teletoon feigning ignorance. I went to the official Undergrads site today and found the same plea for help that I got by email yesterday. The note on the site was not there yesterday cuz I checked to see if I could find more info. I am not terribly surprised cuz in many letter campaigns the people that look at these letters (remember Trek?) are not likely to be promising things. the site url follows. http://www.undergrads.tv/main. html Once you get past the intro there is a very interactive site - click on "message board" (enter any name real or other) and you will see the note. I sincerely hope this is for real.

Also link to and quote other sources... right? So it doesn't make a difference, and Scott also puts in his own detailed and informative info and reviews. And maybe not everyone is a hardcore enough anime fan to visit ANN. Some may just be interested in Miyazaki and Kon movies... but generally only care about live action films... So haing an anime section here just might make others curious about the vast majority of other titles out there...

I actually appreciate all the news you post. I enjoy getting my anime news here versus other sites. I never mind repetition of info. I really enjoyed the preview episode of Kurau on the NewType disc. Glad I pre-ordered the disc without doubt now. Lots of great stuff in that single episode. At least to me. BACANNO! looks right up my alley. Can't wait. Hope it makes it way over here. Devil May Cry looks like a no brainer. Keep up the great work Scott Green. I look forward to SCOTT GREEN'S ANIME AICN news always. Thanks.
accusing Miyazaki of plagiarizing

yeah, and John Williams plagiarized the theme to E.T. ... whatever!

c'mon, there's nothing new in the world. Let the man do his job, cause even if you could prove he was copying someone elses work, it'd still be more original and brilliant than anything the nay-sayers could come up with.
