I agree with Wldmk, my eyes rolled so much when i heard about this film going ahead without Carrey - and i didn't even really like the first, premise good, film laregly sucked except Freeman - they nearly fell out of my head. But the more I hear and see the more i'm warming to it. And Carell's a comic genius. He deserved an Oscar nod for Sunshine just as much as Arkin but his was the subtler, less-showy performance so, of course, he was ignored. Will watch

The guy makes funny movies. Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, heck, he made Ace Ventura: Pet Detective! That merits a look-see in my book. And a more Biblically accurate portrayal of God would be nice too.

you've got a genius movie in there. All 30 minutes of it. "That's alot of nuts!!" man that line cracks me up. Too bad his scenes slowed it down.

..."Bruce Almighty" was not that good. Do I want to support Steve, or do I want *not* to support the franchise? I'm torn.

Tell me, TalkBackers... what do I do?!?!?

I'm just glad for a movie I can take my kid to that's not animated and not written for children. Now if I'll just part with the 16 bucks.

That does sound like the cop-out a fictional character would give to explain why prayer doesn't seem to work at all. Wait a second, that's what real people use to explain it as well. Has there ever been a prayer that hasn't been answered with "yes, no or wait"? How come people don't pray for the impossible, only the improbable? I pray this movie is funny.

But I've never found Carrey to be funny. He's a great dramatic actor, but his comedy doesn't work for me.

That said, I love Steve Carrell and really want this to be good.

As to the reviewers tv anchor-congress question

It actually happened in Minnesota in the 90s. A former TV anchor got elected to the House, then later to the Senate. Then again, we elected a Pro Wrestler as Governor too, so take that for what it's worth...

I'll see it eventually just for the Carrell factor I'm sure. I'm just hoping he puts in at least a couple more years at The Office before jumping ship.

Really wasn't a fan of Bruce

Really wasn't a fan of Bruce almighty , it just seemed to me a huge wasted opportunity (both for the character and the film). One of the things that works so well in groundhog day is that the character does exactly what you would do it that position (or at least does was that character would do), but i never believed in anything carrey did when he got the powers of god. It was all done just to further plot or to get a few cheap laughs. Having said that i actually think this film looks better and mainly because it might address some of those issues above.

And yes, it seemed to give away the entire film! Though the Mrs. said "it's not like the story is any secret - it's been in the Bible forever!" This looks horrible from every preview I've seen, but it WOULD be nice to have a non-animated family film to take the kiddies to. Better than surf-boarding penguins.
