I'm sure the webs had the ability to melt through skin & bone, that's why when they entered the shop all they saw were body parts and severed heads! Not complaining as that last pic was awesome, just saying!

Struzan would have been my first guess. Especially after the beautiful work he did for Shawshank's Anniversary. Damn Quint! Please steal us a couple copies of Wrightson's concept stuff! I love his work, and I know the creatures have to be shit creepy!! Well....thanks to you i'm addicted to coming here for these set reports first thing when I get to umm...work. I'm sick of seeing the homepage announcing another unnecessary essay about a marginally interesting property peppered with exclamation points as if this is important news. I agree, I don't need to read the "essays" and I don't, but still, this is overkill. He's written 10,000 words about the filming of a movie. We get it, you're on the set. That's cool that you don't have a job, whatever. It's enough already. That would be like posting essays about Rowling writing a Harry Potter novel (e.g., Rowling eats an English muffin in her bathrobe while writing 3 new pages!!!!!!!").

His past 10 books have been kind of sucky but when he's good, he's great! The Mist is an okay story, and there was a time in my life when I would've been thrilled about this, however after dozens of pretty bad King adaptations, I'm a bit jaded. Yes, I know this director has done a great job with King's material in the past.

Trazadone, being on the set of a movie is cool news. Many of us enjoy hearing about how a shot was set up and filmed, or seeing pictures of set peices out of the context of the movie. And its nothing like posting about Rowling writing a Harry Potter novel. Movie sets are physical, (unless your George Lucas), and there's lots of cool shit going on. Do I want to read about Rowling changing pens because hers ran out of ink? No. Do I want to read descriptions of freaky ass spiders with semi-human teeth and snapping mandibles? Fuckin' A. That shit gets me excited to see this movie.

Gotta say...I'm enjoying the HELL outta this on-set series! THE MIST is one of King's great short stories that I've read over, and over these past years. It's visceral and haunting. Closing my eyes, I can see the Howard Johnson's near the end of King's story...and the melancholy ending. I"ve got TOTAL faith in Darabont, and Quint's essays are backing up that faith. AICN is the finest place for finding out about the ins/outs of in-depth geek film-making! WAY to go QUINT! Look forward to the next installment!

but these are also some of the best set reports I have ever read. I loved Harry's reports from the Kill Bill shooting, and the 999 steps of Pei whatever, but this series of Quint's may just be the finest AICN has ever seen.

I registered just to post that yes, these are hands-down amazing set reports. When I first heard about the production I was a little afraid they'd screw it up like so many of King's other work... but I'm geeked to see this film now. Kudos to everyone involved who decided Quint should get this level of access and, more importantly, the permission to disclose what he saw. Bravo!

Truly, this all sounds better and better. Though I'm half-upset that I can't see what the creatures look like, but the other half is excited that I can only imagine what they may look like. I kind of wondered if the poster he was working on was a Dark Tower poster (I have to read this series, and find out what has so many going nuts over it). I wonder if Drew might also have posters from other various King books placed in the scene. Btw, I don't care what anyone says-geeking out like Quint is doing here is what makes the story exciting. It's the little kid running from 4 blocks away to tell about the cool thing he saw 10 minutes ago. Personally, give me a geeky set report over an expletive-laced review anyday. Btw Quint, any word if Darabont will be making his way to Comic-Con 2007 to do a Q&A panel on this film? If so, I must be there!! I could see it as the perfect place to reveal a teaser trailer, let alone provide cool promos.

There are some problems with approval. Some actors have it in their contracts that they have to approve all photos of themselves. I've had to get two different actor's approval for pics used already... And if you know the ending... try to keep it to yourself. Don't be a spoiler-sport. As for the webbing... you will get the corrosive webbing, don't worry about that. My impression is that there are two types. One cocoons, the other slices through peoples. Alright, gotta finish my final report... good stuff in there... lots of spider-talk... Look for it!
