(im paraphrasing) but should we really intrust such and "important" role to someone so stupid. And with that first quotation mark I meant un and with the second I meant meaningless... should anybody as stupid as Keith David try reading it none how.

A very cool choice for the job. He's been a quiet, potent force in movies for donkey's ears, and it will be nice to be given a stretch with something other than military officers.

Remember that Simpsons episode where Lisa tries to take on the corporate makers of "Malibu Stacy" and all the company has to do to win back the idiot public back is sell the same shitty product with a new hat? That's what some of the above posts remind me of. What the hell is wrong with you people? Do you get off on being suckered? Is being gullible a fetish? Have you decided to love all studio bullshit or is your taste really that unfathomably bad? Keith David uttering a line or two and all of the sudden things are looking up? What the fuck? Are you really that easily pleased? When you actually have a leg to fucking stand on story or directing wise for this film let me know.

...but if you want the old Transformers modernised, read the new Furman IDW comics - Infiltration, et al. I think we've all given up on the nostalgia kick this film won't be giving us, and will just be viewing it as a film with big robots in it. And that's fine with me.

had they not been able to get Cullen as Optimus Prime, Keith David was my number one choice to be Optimus. But, then they could just call him "Goliath, the Giant Truck Robot" and I'd be happy.

by ApneicMonkey

My own anal retention! The movie character designs should be based on the original toys - they came before the cartoon as any real fan should know. The Autobots should also be called the 'Cybertrons' and the Decepticons should be known as the 'Destrons' - those were their original names! Geez, while we're at it, Optimus Prime's name should also be changed to 'Convoy' as was his original Japanese incarnation name. I must be gullible and love having shit served to me because every bit of Transformers movie news that comes out sounds freakin' awesome! David Keith rocks!!!

...a really great Prime, but they decided to go with the fanboy favourite with Cullen, and I'm okay with that too, but nonetheless it's still great to see that Kickass Keith David still scored a voice role in this one. He will own, as he always does, regardless of the film around him. I mean the man, sorry, I meant THE MAN, is definitely one of the most under appreciated character actors out there, has been for years and years now, and he's a guy that can effortlessly go from drama to hardass action to comedy with complete ease. Yes, Keith David is indeed THE MAN, and he definitely has a perfect voice for something like this.

As for other actors I'd like to see in this, I like the idea of Willem Dafoe for Starscream, Kiefer Sutherland for Ironhide, Peter Weller has a great voice for one of the new Decepticons, likewise Ian McShane. No idea who could play Jazz and embody that particular 'tude of his voice wise (that the late, great Scatman Crothers did so well), nor who would really be able to sell the empathy of Ratchet for that matter.

..is definately my favourite voice actor. He is awesome.

Keith David IS *THE MAN*! Loved the guy since THE THING and I've loved his voice-over work throughout the years. I'm liking the voice cast in this film, however I'm not sold. Not a G1 fanboy or anything, just the trailer did nothing for me and I can't imagine how this film is going to work in its present form. Will probably see it when it comes out as I fun braindead thrillride, but I'm not expecting much.

Also, if the film ends up being really successful I can just imagine the mass raping of 80's cartoons.

Human life means very little to me at this point in time. You see, I thrive on misery. In the jungle, misery's all you got. But things are different back here in the world, or so they seem. Nobody wants to talk about pain and suffering. Everybody wants everything to be nice and civil. Well, OK then. Let's be nice; let's be civil. And let's drop those guns before I pull this trigger and change the way you feel about me. "

Okay. The Cullen news was great. I left the jury out on the Weaving news. But after THIS- I officially stop my bitching and will wholly embrace whatever fucktastic film Bay produces from this franchise with a name that should be something else because it's not really the franchise. Keith David is off the hook insane. I actually did theatre with him a few years ago and he was such a sweet, gentle person. It's kind of amazing watching him tap into that other place and access the kind of ferocity he can so easily muster up. Top notch pro, this guy, and all heart. He even ate my christmas cookies. Which were, like his cartoon voices can sometimes be, tough as nails.

This movie is starting to evoke the first animated one-awesome voice actors and a bunch of characters we've never heard of before(Cullen Prime is the exception). Seriously, is Stan Bush signed up yet to make this the ultimate retro clusterfuck? The only difference is the director's drug of choice is coke, whereas for the '86 movie it was apparently acid.

i remember liking his voice as spawn and on disney's gargoyles. and I totally agree with whoever said that a voice over castign shouldnt effect your opinion since the voice will prolly be used for like 3 sentences and a total of maybe 5 mins if your lucky. its not the VO's that do it for me. the actors in this are pretty bad. Shia, josh D, and tyrese. I hope to god they kill tyrese and shia.

"Harry called me to tell me how he loved it. I see all the d**kwad talk back people who claim they have read a finished script. Impossible - I kept the only draft for the last two months before shooting. That's where did major retooling to the script - yes the scene beats are similar but a very different script. We are still writing the robot voices. They talk about just 20 minutes of action at the end - yeah right. This is by far the most action I have ever put into a movie - I have 12 huge set pieces. The job of the trailer is to sell me on the product. I've yet to be sold. And then top it off with a vicious dose of horrid leaks from the set.

Not gonna pay. Nope. Not even a decent try at getting me to contribute to the box office receipts. The only way this flick will see any patronage from me is via whatever cash they receive from airing it on pay channels I already subscribe to anyhow and would have regardless.

Well I assumed it wasn't Brad Mick or Simon Furman when you mentioned a comedian.

Gotta say, I have not posted regarding the TINO movie. I really don't have the ability to debate like you guys do. SuperNinja - I have enjoyed yours and most of the other TBers musings/summations/observation s about this appauling and ultimately insulting movie. So many, many, many possibilities and this is what they consider to be palatable to a mass/broad audience? Maybe I should start submitting scripts to Hollywood. Clearly it takes little ability and vision.

Before I am "jumped" heres why I refuse to see this. I have read the draft script, watched the Don Murphy interviews/symposiums, retched at the horrible Hasbro designs that Bay approved and viewed the trailer. That's enough for me to make an educated decision. But Michael Bay is directing it. That in and of itself is enough reason to pass. I still marvel at all the mindless automatons that flock to see his supposed pretty explosions and great action pieces. Clearly I am missing something. Clearly I am a minority or flim snob or whatever I am to be labeled. I refuse to pay to watch this tripe. But that's the great thing about film. There is something out there for everyone. Good luck guys. Hope you enjoy it.

I am curious as to why they chose not to include the Constructicons/Devastator. That seems like a no brainer to me. Oh wait, that's because they know nothing about the source material and only what Hasbro pushes. What an unbeatable challenge to have the Autobots face at the end of the film. Perhaps they are in the "new" script that we are evidently not privy to or are they saving it for the second or third bowel movements...erm films? Weak sauce.

It has no real canon to follow, no fans to piss off. Nothing really to mess up. incorporated with the performance of Depp, the special effects and over all charm or the movie it was geared for sucess. Transformers has a more rabid fan base then even I expected. You gather 20 million Latch key kids from the 80's and you tell us you want to put our father in pants with flames on them and we'll kick your ass. I enjoy the Idea of making a film about Transformers but instead of Respecting the source material there using the it as for nothing more then make a buck and start a new hollywood trend. support, I've been trying to tell these hosers that it's easy to make an educated decision on this film given the amount of material that has been released (pretty common these days anyway). Was that script scraping bottom, or what? This guy may be good to punch up the script - who knows how many people have touched it at this point? I am not emotionally attached to TF in any way. It just makes me sad that there are people who clearly give a shit, and are watching as their dreams of a live action TF movie are being viciousally anally raped. Without lube.

I am, however, militantly pissed off about the amount of sub-standard crap that is being produced every summer, and as TF seems to have the most vocal and (frankly) furious fans, this is the film to bitch about.

I also pathologically hate Michael Bay, not only for the films he directs, but for the fact that (could be wrong) he is behind the current trend of destroying classic horror/ films.

And as for shia leprick... well, words fail me.

Indeed. However, the script sucks. Period. No substance. I have no doubt the robots will look and perform wonderfully. That does not a good movie make. Special effects, CGI, et. al. should not be the placating factor for a big budget film. But, then again, I'm a minority. I feel strongly that while I do not desire to see a live action NGE movie, I KNOW it will be far better than this. Screw the fact that the source material in and of itself surpasses any and all TF mythos above and beyond reproach. The simple fact that WETA's Eva designs are instantly recognizable and the story will no doubt follow some semblance of faithful adaptation. It's not just about big robots fighting and TF isn't either. It's too bad many refuse to see that. Or perhaps they are incapable. Yeah I'm passionate and attached to this shit. It's good shit and could have been on the big screen. One of my many problems with this debacle is that people keep blaming Bay whereas I continually blame Hasbro. They have final say on a lot of this shit. Look at the glorious Baroness cover they wouldn't even allow to be a pin-up in the back of the issue let alone a primary or alternate/incentive cover.

http://www.yojoe.com/magazine/ solicitations/2006/images/amer icaselite17.shtml

Dicks. Look at the shit Hasbro shoved down Larry Hama's throat during the origina G.I. Joe run. All shit, but he still crafted some cool stories. Hasbro should have demanded more of their product concerning the Transformers line. Out of my control save for the simple fact that I will not pay to see GIANT FUCKING ROBOTS which is clearly what everyone wants. Sci-Fi is capable of much more. Now excuse me while I pout whilst taking care of my daughter.

Well superninja, when it comes to your math, the equation = superninja just doesn't like the story. So, no matter what other scenes they have drafted (regardless of those still admittedly included), what new and expanded dialog they have written, and what better characterization they may have incorporated, it won't matter = you just don't like the story. Even more, you don't like Michael Bay (which seems to be the crux of everyone's opinion). You've already made up your mind. Fair enough. It's too bad you won't be going to the theater to really know for sure what it is you hate.

Again, fair enough. Cheers.

I thought it demonstrated that maybe Bay had matured as a filmmaker. Obviously, not the case! LOL. No, I don't like the story, it's terrible. Did you read it? I can accept a human character to view the TF through, but the entire focus is the humans and the TF are supporting characters. What's the point of making a TF movie if that's your approach? The human characters were never the drivers in the TF story. It would be like if all the main characters in Hellboy were normal people and not members of the BPRD, or if Superman was about the citizens of Metropolis.

There should be more fantasy films made. The only way for that to happen is to make more GOOD fantasy films. Sky Captain looked great was a snoozer in terms of story. I agree with you that CGI just does not cut it - it is an enhancement, it is not a replacment for the story or the characters. I think He-Man could be visually stunning and I wouldn't complain about them putting him in something other than fur diapers, but if it worked for Conan...

Bay himself said he did not want to make a toy movie, but then went ahead and made a toy movie.

HeWho, I met my lovely bride, The Warden, at the ripe age of 15 and never looked back (I'm 36 now). Something should be said about the positive virtues of a warm meal and a roll in the sack every night! And how old are yours? My daughter is 9 and my son is 15. The last few years have been great for sharing with them live action stuff based on the stuff I grew up on, be it well adapted or otherwise. They're interested enough to hear and read up on the differences. And my son is entering a cool, new stage in his life. Took him to see 300 at IMAX since I think he can handle that sorta thing now. Honestly, I've never seen a Bay film. Only saw pieces of Island on cable and not enough to say "I saw it." I know what films he's done, and hell, THAT's the very reason why I was thrilled to see him appointed director for this property. I mean, the explosion guy paired with TF? Sounds too good. McG would have sounded equally good as a runner up for all the same reasons.

But Bay unfortunately sounded good ON PAPER. I knew this property was screwed once they released the picture of Barricade, the Decepticon *car*. Everyone familiar with the property knows that Autobots = ground vehicles and Decepticons = air vehicles. Damn, even the profit mongers at Hasbro squeezed the udders nearly dry before they started releasing polar opposite vehicles for each side.

Just because some folks won't go to the theater to see this, doesn't mean they never will. There is cable and rentals after all. So, no remorse from you!

I personally will not be paying to see this. However, I do urge anyone concerned about this property that still wants to see it in the theater TO SEE IT the 2ND WEEK of release. Send a message. Never hurts to write Hasbro either. I haven't received a reply and surely won't, but at least I know they got the message.

No offense but, are you sure you know your Transformers? Do you know how many G1 characters do no match the description you just gave???

You can be sure that when I see this movie (emphasis on "see"), I will offer the most honest, candid review I can in AICN TB.

Didn't he make Armageddon? -- which is like the greatest movie ever made. I think I just proved my point.

Way do not want to roll up and throw down with you over this, okay?

Well, bear in mind I was into the comics and didn't watch the cartoons until much later. That may account for differences to an extent. Having dug them out recently, I can say for a fact that this is stated in issue 1. Hell, take a look at the entire G1 run. The air vs. ground vehicle premise was standard until the Stunticons came out. Sorry, but I've forgotten the name of the simultaneously released Autobot airforce. Soundwave could fly even though his alt mode wasn't a flying mechanism. And there were no Autobots that could fly early G1.

Now, perhaps you want to throw Swoop and Devestator in my face, but surely you can admit they were the exception to the rule. Or, I could argue that they weren't autobots and decepticons, but rather dinobots and constructicons. ;-) And Bumblebee's original Cybertronian alt mode being a hover craft really shouldn't count as an air vehicle.

What do you consider G1, the stuff originally released in the first batch, or anything that was released up to the 1986 movie? Perhaps that also could account for why we disagree.
