I'm guessing it's a reference to the whole "chicken whacking" from A Link to the Past?

I just wish Zelda didn't have those anachronisms in her hands. That'd be the best piece of Zelda art ever if not for that. I'd love to buy the original of the DK drawing.

In particular, the shameless KFC plug in the Zelda picture has led me to the conclusion that once again, corporations control everything, even the thought of an artist looking to get ahead by drawing in a corporate logo in an original creation that did not need any advertising, whatsoever. What a mindtrap that is. Then again, it could just be me.

Chicken Bucket

I'd like to say the chicken bucket is in reference to an earlier piece for the Minibosses (an excellent VG cover band)--As the Zelda art was used for a flyer for them. It was about a fat Megaman stuffing his face with chicken while Samus (Metroid) and Alucard (CV) dueled it out on the ol' NES. I aint no coporate shill! You can see that earlier piece if yer interested at http://matt-illustrations.com/ index-klawful.html

Congratulations to all the other people who got picked. I did the Donkey Kong drawing and tried to stay as far from Frank Cho as I could while doing a pen and ink illustration of a lady with an ape(not as cartoonish, not as good) but he does have a real lock on the subject. Super quick results for an art contest.

This is a good example of why people who review movies shouldn't be allowed to critique art. While the contest was admirable to offer, it was a testament to basic high school critical analysis that comes from little or no understanding beyond aesthetic qualities in art. No context or subject matter in any or all of these works, they might work better as a tattoo on some fat chick’s ankle than in a gallery of any sort. And no, I didn't submit to the contest, it isn't my focus. Keep up the contests I just hope there is better examples of art in the future.

Of course art is subjective, so I'll respect the opinion, but you do realize that most of the above work is technically illustration not fine art. Either way, I think it's a good group.
Your completly right art is subjective.

It's a dick move to bitch at something someone put the effort into, espc when it's a contest I support. Some of the work is pretty good, the Donkey Kong is sharp and tank is smooth...others a good as well. I have to admit having the Mrs. PacMan up first got my goat.

As some Mike Zeck/Punisher action, that would've been cool. Particularly if the artist could incorporate crushing the baddie with the elevator thing.
