The last Mummy came out 5-6-7 years ago and it really wasnt that great, especially The Scorpion King crap.I think Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz made those films and John Hannah was great too. Now there annoying little kid is grown up and taking over, sound truly Original really. And as for Rob Cohen the best thing he's ever done was produce Monster Squad and The Running Man.

I like a lot of his Hong Kong stuff (especially Once Upon A Time In China), but his Hollywood career has been a disaster. Playing the villain in a third Mummy film doesn't seem like it'll turn things around, either. Is this going to be the first stage of his post-kung fu career? I heard he retired from chop socky or something.

latinoreview used to have a pretty damning script review of mummy 3 set in china- although that earlier draft featured them. I read that weisz was up for it - but I guess the script put them both off. Im sure its been revised since, so theres a chance this could be as good as the first......which means its not worth watching either way as these movies stink. But before all the geekos say it should involve loads more violence etc.. remember, it's a no-brainer crappy kids film franchise. Like a poor man's Pirates of the C. Apparently they had to double Rachel Weisz's money for her to even do the sequel! Still, it should be quite fun - anytime Jet Li kicks ass, he kicks it real good.

I have read and seen interviews with Jet Li attempting to clarify what he meant by his so called retirement from martial arts movies. He said that he simply didnt want to play epic chinese heros like Wong Fei Hung or Huo Yuan Jia anymore, that he would continue to do ALL kinds of kung fu movies...just not epic period pieces portraying legendary kung fu heros...speaking of which..Jet is about to do the Monkey King movie called "Kings Of Kung Fu" with Jacky Chan based on a the book "Journey To The West" an ancient chinese legend. He will be playing longevity monk and the monkey king...two of the most beloved legendary kung fu heros...so...maybe all that "Jet's final martial arts movie!" nonsense was just a marketing ploy? I wonder if Chinese mummys hop around like Chinese zombies?
Thanks for clarifying, longevitymonk

That's pretty funny about the monkey king, like Steven Seagal saying he's giving up the roles that made him famous and then announcing his next film will be Vengeance For A Killing, the story of a retired CIA black-ops agent now working as a dog walker.

As for Hollywood not getting Jet Li, they never got Jackie Chan either. Police Story vs The Tuxedo anyone? The ol' Hong Kong action fliks were a breed of their own, never to be equalled - though many will try. Korea's not doing too badly at the moment I gotta admit.

Sommers, Fraiser and CO. had a golden opportunity to revive all of the old 'silver screen' monsters - The Creature, The Werewolf, ect. The sequal should have been more like a stand alone old fashioned monster movie, rather than reviving the same bad guy for a second go round. Personally, I would have loved to see Fraiser and Weiz beating their way up the Amazon where they encounter the Creature From The Black Lagoon.

I liked Mummy 2 better than 1. It might have just been the marketing for part 1, where they actually made it seem like a straight cool horror-adventure (more horror than adventure). 2 was just wayyy more over the top, but at least by then you knew what you were getting into. They pretty much abandoned any attempt at seriousness, and it worked better.
More on the Monkey movie
by longevitymonk
Mar 22nd, 2007
09:28:35 AM
Fortunately they are not going to try to cram all of Journey to the West in one movie. They are going to focus on the part of the story when Monkey and Longevity Monk get seperated. Longevity Monk ends up with Monkey's magical golden rod and has to rescue Monkey who I beleive is trapped in a giant cacoon...or maybe an egg. Anyways...its going to be a strange take on the whole thing. Rob Minkoff is set to direct it..Yuen Woo Ping will do the fight choreography. The story begins in modern times...a boy steps into a Chinese antiquity shop, touches some magical item he should not and is magicaly transported back in time. He somehow ends up with Longevity Monk.

And I thought Jet Li was "retiring" from action flicks to focus on serious acting. Definitely not sticking to that with the director of such gems as The Skulls, Stealth and XxX. Even if Jet Li and Gong Li show up in this, I can't foresee my money being plunked down for this. It'll probably be better than Bayformers though. Ugh.

The second was simply special effects gone wild. With a precocious little kid thrown in for extra shit value. Yeesh.

Weisz and Fraiser ARE in the movie. They all have leading roles like in the first 2. Come on, do you really think they'd make a Mummy 3 without EITHER of them and just a grown-up son who isn't a big name? No one would come to see that crap, it would go STR8 to DVD. Plus Weisz has an Oscar so of course they'd give her something to do in the film. It'll just be a family adventure thing. Working together to take down Jet Li. And I HIGHLY doubt they'll have him doin Kung Fu. He'll fight, but I dont think he'll be doing his martial arts specialities in this film, otherwise it'd be corny and they know that. I'm just hoping the guy that plays Weisz brother comes back. He made it funny. Oh, and the Arab dude. Weisz, Fraiser, the brother, and the Arab guy pretty much made the films. You cant have a third Mummy without them. Duh.

It seems that for every movie that is released, all sorts of people (like yourselves) feel the need to rip it apart before its even in production. Whining about Jet Li being cast as a mummy or the fact that they're even making a number 3. There were posts similar to this about the movie 300, and despite all those peoples efforts, i loved it. So while it doesnt effect your life whatsoever, why dont you all stop whining and see what it delivers. Although i myself am not a big fan of the franchise, i find it downright ridiculous that so many people talk smack about filmmakers that, while they may not make a movie for YOU, still have much more talent in they're fields than most of you could imagine. I'd like to see the crap some of you could put on the shelves. I guess people will just always feel the need to complain. Its human nature.

Rachel Weisz DOES want to be there. Although a while back it was said that she didnt want to return, but recently last year she changed her mind. She said, and was QUOTED, that she heard they were making the Mummy 3 and that she'd WANTED and would LOVE to be a part of it. I honestly dont care if she was an Oscar winner. An Oscar winner can be in any kind of mummy. Look at Halle Berry in Catwoman(although it was crap). Look at Charlize Theron in Aeon Flux (i kinda liked that movie). You cant have a Mummy 3 without Rachel Weisz. You just cant. She's also one of my favorite actresses. Loved her in Runaway Jury and Constantine. SHe need to be in Mummy 3. U cant say that she Doesnt need to do this film. It's her f***ing decision and if she wants to, f***in' let her! Not your choice to make.

i agree. she is too fit. but i'd have thought she'd grown out of doing films like the mummy 3. she's done good proper shit like the constant gardener or some shit then the fountain- bad move, confusing it shit but at least it wass tryna be highbrow, now shes signed up for this trainfull of camelshit. why? i dont get it. does she want to be taken seriously as an actress or what?

You guys need to just leave Weisz alone. If she wants to do the damn movie then let her. So just for doing Mummy 3 she wont be taken seriously as an actress? thats a load of bull. The only reason she really got noticed, or why I noticed her, was b/c of the Mummy films. She owes spotlight career to those films. so to say she's too good for Mummy 3 is a load of crap. It'll be fun for her and she'll have a good time doing it. She wants to do it so who are u to tell her she cant?

good points you've made, mate. but the points i'm making suggest she's doing a backward step. case in hand. eddie murphy did a wicked performance in dreamgirls, hell even I was shocked- i thought the guy was just a buffoon, well past his prime, fella. so the academy recognizes him (i think- or it might've ben bafta). then what does he do. he's goes one step back and does some shit called Norbit! he's bonkers! thats the analogy. same thing with Weicz.
