Yeah, I was there w/ a friend the day they were taking the very last of it apart. I wanted to take home a sliver of wood, something, some souvenier, but Security was so tight they even made you brush the sawdust off your shoes before leaving the area so no one would have any element of the production!

yeah hes a good addition to this series. and as for the "might" be the last one, you know if this one makes any $$$ ( and boy will it ever) than they will start churning em out every three yrs or so. It wont be about the storyline anymore ti will strictly be a cash cow that they will milk until its teets are empty..

such grace and presence on screen is a rare thing these days. Haven't met the guy, but I like to think he's like one of those actors from back in the 40s and 50s - he inspires that sort of awe.

Cant believe they tore down the Pearl...its one of THE BEST sets ever built for a film. They should have just shipped it to one of their parks and charged the tourists 20 bucks a pop to walk around on it-thats about the only thing that would get my ass back to Disney(well, that or a full-size Millinium Falcon walkthrough at MGM)

What's so weird about it? We've been living with the Pirates franchise for four freaking years! I swear I must have really missed the boat on these movies...so to speak. I mean, the first one was fun and somewhat refreshing. The second was just aimless and bogged down. Granted it was AMAZING to look at but the story went nowhere. Bringing back Rush and adding Fat are fine and I'll see it opening weekend just like everyone else, but honestly, if something were to happen to stop AWE from ever being seen, I wouldn't care in the least.

The Pearl is not being destoyed...well not THE Pearl. There is an actual sea worthy, full sized working vessel that Disney will parade around for years and years...the Pearl that is being dismantled is the SOUNDSTAGE set of the Black Pearl (used for more controlled environments etc) Yo HO!
ProfGriffin is right about that...
by ElectricDreams
Mar 15th, 2007
11:13:59 AM
Yeah there is the floating hero version of the Black Pearl which has visited many ports on both coasts the past year or so. Obviously they wouldnt dismantle that, but the Black Pearl set went bye bye. A friend at Disney Imagineering said plans have been discussed at taking "Tom Sawyers Island" at Disneyland/world and converting them into a Pirates themed island and replacing the ship that tracks around the surrounding lagoon with a Black Pearl replica. This has not officially been signed off on, apparently they were waiting to see how well this 3rd film went before green lighting it...they might as well start on it now right, we all know it will do great.

Is already being re-furbished into a Pirate adventure. (It's currently closed and progress is beign monitored) Claiming to owe more to Tom and Huck's adventures and 'River Pirates' of Mark Twain nevertheless, there will be a more 'piratey' theme to the lost caves and tunnels and treasure stashes of Injun Joe on the island. Can't wait for it to open this Summer. The sailing ship that makes the rounds at Disneyland, The Columbia, is not going anywhere. There is just too much history there. The Black Pearl would probably best be represented at one of Disney's beachfront Orlando amusement properties, and making the rounds to port towns. Can't WAIT for Pirates 3!

in worldwide box office. And cost $200million to make- that is an $800million profit. Now I know not all that goes to Disney, but when you add in the merchandising and whatnot... then it's still at LEAST that. Animal Kingdom (in all its glory) cost $800mil to develop and build. So really, that ONE MOVIE retroactively paid for the entire Animal Kingdom. I dunno, that just strikes me as cool for some reason.

This could be Lucas-talk (SW Episodes 7-9), but i thought I'd read in a couple of places that Disney is heavily considering making another trilogy of Pirates films given the tremendous success of the first two (and surely the impending third installment). Depp and Bruckhiemer are game. Rossio and Elliot were going to try and write another script. But haven't heard anything about it for a while.

Anybody else?

these movies. The father/son thing with Will Turner and his dad and now with Jack and his dad. Will and Jack are kind of like mirror images of each other from different moral universes with Lizzy pulled between the two. I'm curious to see where this will all lead in the end.

Well it's good to know my Imagineer source was at least feeding me something that was somewhat on track w/ the revamping of Tom Sawyer Island. He spoke of what I mentioned above last Summer when we were at the June 24th World Premiere at Disneyland and they had retrofitted the Columbia to look like the Black Pearl, it was then he mentioned all of that. Looks like they may have backed off that entire retrofit and gone w/ the River Pirate theme, which I guess still is "Piratey" in some sense. Well perhaps they will do something at one of the Orlando water parks and transform one of those into a POTC theme?
There will definitely be a 2nd POTC trilogy eventually
by Rain505
Mar 15th, 2007
09:46:12 PM
Hollywood doesn't think that way, if you think there won't be another Pirates trilogy in a few years time (after POTC 2 made $US 1 billion and after POTC3 inevitably also will). They'll ditch Orlando and Keira for a 2nd POTC trilogy, as they're now both too expensive and neither are interested anyway. If Depp wasn't interested, they'll just find a new and much cheaper lead actor to take over and make them play a relative of Jack's.
OK, wait though

Did they actually "destroy" it, or just take it apart to store it? Apologies if I missed a previous story about a "Blow up the Black Pearl" party, or something. Also, you have to think that there will be more POTC movies (although I never thought I'd say that when I heard about the first one getting made). They'd be absolutely insane not to if JD wants to do more. It's one of the classic characters of the cinema now. And as much as JD doesn't want to be a "star", he clearly enjoys that aspect of these films.

So parts of it were loaded on trucks over the course of about a week, masts, windows, steering mechanisms, some of the railings and support beams, the rest (the hull of the ship) they literally smashed w/ sledge hammers and forklifts on the soundstage, trust me it was daily sight many Disney employees cringed at. I overheard one cast member ask a security guard assigned to the soundstage why they dont just put the whole thing in storage and he said it was too big and too costly to move, so they were just keeping key pieces of it in case they need to rebuild the hull/frame for another movie, they can reattach these various pieces they did keep. Thats' all I know.
