Cap Dead????
by Freefinger
Mar 8th, 2007
06:22:59 AM
WTF!?!?!?!!? Joe Simon and Jack Kirby are flipping out of their caskets!!

How can they just kill off Cap with a damn Sniper!!

If they kill him off, do it appropriatly, last book of the War thing they have right now, he dies to protect something, but in style, with some meaning.. Not a Freaking recreation of a Marky Mark movie (Which ressembles a lot, no, is copied right off of the one Keenen Ivory Wayans did called "Most Wanted" in 1997)!

This shows you how uncreative Marvel has become. Everybody know Spidey, they changed the costume, big thing going on about Superhero vs. Superhero.. Blah... I'm happy I stopped collecting these back in the 90's... They've become the worst storytellers ever since Quesada and the Arad took over...

Killed Cap.. bastards!

Extract from the CNN site - Quesada said he wanted to readers find their own meaning in Cap's end. "There is a lot to be read in there. But I'm not one who is going to tell people, this is what you should read into it, because I could look into it and read several different types of messages," he told CNN. - End quote

Which translate into: "I have no clue why we did it.. We just wanted to kill someone off, and sell more books like DC did when they killed Superman. Expect our hero doesn't die to save the world, oh no! None of that crap! We kill him off by a sniper. We have no imagination what can I tell you! Hell after the Spidey movie we decided to give him organic WebShooters in the comics too, because well.. euh... because .. euh... Well, let's just say we like to fuck around with our most precious characters that stood for something for so many years because the movie made millions, so there must be something to it right??" - End of translation.

Marvel's dead... No soul into that company anymore. As tacky as Stan Lee is when he talks about comic book heroes, at least he stood by the characters and would not change things around just to sell a book. He got the writers and artists to push themselves to get a good storyline out. not go for the easy way out. "Kill someone! Easy sell!". Oh where are you Stan when we need you!

Well, now that Cap is dead, I just hope they don't ressucitate him in two months to sell comics again. They made a decision, hope they live with it and keep Rodgers dead, bringing him back to life would be demeaning to the character, just like trying to bring back Colossus to life after he gave his for the Mutants.. Oh wait.. they did that already didn't they.. Lack of imagination is what keeps this industry alive I guess...

The hell with Marvel!

The scene was a small protest/parade. Lot's of "end the war" posters and people dressed in 60's gear. One production assistant told me "you're gonna have to move out of the way, you'll be in this shot". So I went over to the crew area, took a donut, and went on my way.

This movie, however, with it's seemingly endless hippie dippy cliches (based on the trailerI saw), is not. This just looks silly. Oh and Freefinger? That "Marky Mark movie" is actually based on Stephen Hunter's 1993 novel, Point Of Impact. So STFU.

I'm very good friends with them both. Aw, I just like getting people riled by letting out my inner Archie Bunker. Though I sometimes get annoyed by the people who live in the past, and the kind of people I was referring to are the worst offenders. And there's a superiority they think they have for being part of that movement. And they never factor in the guys who were involved just to get laid.

Did it say anything about the Brother's Quay doing any stop motion animation in it? Taymor used them to make the hospital scene in FRIDA, so I was just curious if they had any hand in this, because it sounds right up their alley.

I was in the protest parade on 5th Avenue. I'm really curious about this. I think Taymor is capable of a lot but sometimes goes a little overboard. The dialogue in the trailer kind of bugged me, but like the reviewer says, maybe it's a very small part of a cool, trippy film. Here's hoping.

...was indeed paramount, I'd say. "You here for the demonstration, man?" Pfffhhtt....(holds nose and blows out noxious stream of hemp smog). "Uh-uh, uh yeah...I'm here to demonstrate my manhood to some foxy trippy-hippy chicks, man." Obligatory reply: "Far out!" All you need(ed) i(wa)s love...and some good penicillin.

I hope you'll agree that just about every generation has a superior attitude. I've found that's more of an individual thing than an attribute to an entire generation. Also, why steal what you can easily grow? And, not every long-hair was a "hippie." In fact, I recall true hippies as being rather scarce. Lotsa teeny-boppers though. Oh man, low cut bell-bottomed hip hugger jeans...now THAT'S what I remember most. Groovy baby!

I had the same experience with my (now adult) kids. They adore the Beatles to this day and are perhaps even bigger fans than myself. We make it a point to watch 'A Hard Day's Night' at least once a year. And, no, I've never made a Sheila blush with my cool appraising stare.

I'm with you though...hope this isn't like the Sgt. Pepper's "video."

The 60s get constant praise because of baby boomer nostalgia. Much of that praise is undeserved, but not in the case of the Beatles. Their music is as good today as its ever been.
Taymor

10:07:54 PM
I'll agree Taymor has a distinct and creative visual style, which many people dig. That said, I haven't enjoyed any of her films. Not even remotely. For me, her style overwhelms all substance. "Frida" wasn't bad, I suppose, but after the film ended, I was left with no emotional interest in Frida Kahlo whatsoever. Which sucks, because I think in the hands of a better director, Frida could've been a great film.

Taymor is talented visually, I'll give her that. But I'm tired of slick visuals over substance. How about a little bit of both, Julie?

Also, I dig the Beatles, but this project just sounds tired and obvious. A musical biopic about a band other than the Beatles would've been nice. How about someone more recent than 30 fucking years ago? How about an eighties or nineties band? Oh, that's right -- gotta go for the lowest common denominator. I agree the Beatles's music holds up well over time, but can we fucking move on? The sixties are dead and buried. Let the decade die in peace.

An eighties or nineties band? Hmmmm...

If you can name one band from those decades that has had as much influence as The Beatles, or as many hits as The Beatles, or as good as The Beatles, then, you might have a subject to make a movie about. Otherwise, it ain't gonna happen. Not enough people would be interested, duh. I'm not saying ATU is going to be a blockbuster, but The Beatles can bring in people from all age brackets.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: The Movie (1978)

Is it me, or does this sound suspiciously similar to the only other attempt at taking Beatles songs, and using them to make a story?? Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978), with Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees "acting" as Americans, and killing The Beatles. Also with the weirdest supporting cast EVER, including Steve Martin, Frankie Howerd, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Donald Pleasence and George Burns!! :| Overall, I have mixed feelings about this one, but Sgt. Pepper's is a guilty pleasure of mine!! ;)

I've seen the movie and it's one of the most interesting movie experiences I've ever had on the big screen.06/07 has been a really good year for different sort of movies:the fountain, children of men, grindhouse, and now across the universe--though I suspect that ATU will be the most commercially succesful of the bunch because it was so crowded the movie line because of this movie that I HAD to buy the 10 pm ticket at 10 in the morning.
