Sure there's a lot wrong, but if I had to allocate money from the budget and had to pick between 1 or 2 really well done CGI sequences shots versus a ton of crazy fun action sequences with lesser quality CGI that will have me jumping up and down in my seat, I'd pick the latter! It's fucking Spider-Man! Not a realistic historical re-enactment of the greatest battle ever in the history of mankind. The guy sticks to walls and shoots webbing from his wrists at a guy on a board that just doesn't seem aerodynamically feasible... why don't we complain about that too and how getting bitten by radioactive spiders doesn't give you super powers. No one gave a shit about realistic physics in the first two movies, and they aren't going to give a shit about them now...

... Guys, the quality here has ZERO to do with money or technical limitations. As a CG professional myself, I can tell you that what you're looking at is simply an issue of compressed post-production scheduling. Given adequate time, most of these houses could pump out visuals that'd make your collective heads spin. Unfortunately, Hollyweird screws them over with unrealistic scheduling. It's so bad that some of these guys burn out after just a couple of flicks. BTW, a photorealistic CG double is way closer than you'd think. Not even the 10 years that somebody above proposed. There's been some groundbreaking work in the field of accelerated rendering and material sampling for skin. Fascinating stuff with kaleidescope lenses (seriously). If you don't see this tech appear in movies within the next 2 or 3 years I'd be surprised. As for the physics of these fight scenes... So what if they're wonky. It's a comic book movie. You've got to stretch your imagination some. I was only irked by the hang time of the ring because it just stuck out so much more than any of the other gravity defying antics.

You're probably quoting that from NVidia, but they were talking about video game consoles and real time graphics rendering. They believe they'll hit photorealism in games 10 years from now, supposedly when Sony plans to ship Playstation 4 if the console gen lasts as long. As for general photorealism and film, rsanta74 is right, they're already there! However one of the biggest things that still needs to be there is not the quality of the models or textures or lighting... but animation! Sure, mo-cap helps a great deal, but oftentimes a human animator will have to take control of the rig and do it by hand and clean up or edit mo cap data too. It's those subtlties of movement that can give you away. The only film I've seen thus far reaching so close are the Matrix sequels, and it was often poor animation that people are really noticing and complain about in the films...

As a Marvel Zombie for 23 out of my 33 years, I can tell you that there have been long stretches where the Spidey books were all dark & broody. It's usually those "done in one" stories where he's light & comical. Most of the time, he's making like Batman with the "Oh, my life suck. Oh, why is everything my fault? Blah Bitch Blah Bitch Blah." While the movies could use some more of his patented one liners, the brooding tone is consistent with the book's past 15-20 years of storytelling. Remember all of the happy go lucky good old days? Stories like "Kraven's Last Hunt" where Spidey was buried alive? What about the "Clone Saga"? It drove Peter nuts enough to bitch slap MJ. How about when Aunt May got shot or the time they thought MJ was dead in a plane explosion? What about the apparent death of Peter's daughter or when his friend/nemesis Flash became a vegetable? Oh... wait... I guess those "good ole days" weren't so happy go luck after all? Let's face it. The Spider-Man books thrive on the fact that every aspect of his life sucks. Raimi's just doing what Raimi does best. Making "Living Dead" and "Batman" rip-offs. j/k =)

Time passes differently obviously in comic books than in film and I think this version needs a little breathing room. How can you really appreciate the downs when there are no ups? I mean, I was laughing about his luck at almost losing Aunt May's ring because it's freakin' absurd at this pace.

just plain sucked. I know the animator who did several of the key Neo related scenes, such as the Burly Man Brawl. The keyraming was well below the standards set by his personal work. This guy's usually quite the animatin' fool. The problem, as I said, was one of time constraints. Quality keyframed animation takes time, something to which both Disney & Pixar can attest. With the 500+ CG shots that most modern popcorn flicks demand, what do you expect? You can't rush it in the limited 3-4 month period some films get. You rush a miracle, you get rotten miracles. =) Plus, with many movies utilizing upwards of 5+ FX houses to meet the deadlines....

The first two scenes with MJ and Aunt May were not full of the dark overtones everyone is complaining about. They were kinda sweet, with heart. And before the fight starts, Pete is riding along like a carefree school kid with a big grin on his face. I haven't read a script, but for all I know the opening scene of the movie may be a classic Spidey crime busting episode with zippy wisecracks, bounding acrobatics and creative webbing-up of criminals. Let's hope so, 'cause the rest of this movie is gonna be a downer. Anyway, that fight was nice. It's not "real" looking, but it was real cool looking. I prefer the Ninja Goblin to the Power Ranger Goblin. And it was crystal clear on the HD format for me. If that was too dark try turnimg up your brightness I guess. I especially liked Osborn tipping over the entire brick facade with Pete holding onto it.

I read real books too. There's nothing wrong with the weekly does of genre escapism that a comic provides. They're far more mature and topical now then they ever were back in the 60's and 70's. The writing's a whole lot more complex and multi-layered too, attracting Hollywood's best and brightest - not to mention some very well respected authors. There's absolutely no reason for me to be embarrassed by my hobby. Not everything I read has to be the NY Times or James Michener.

These might not even be finished scen es. They might not even appear in the film this way. If they can release DVDs after a theatrical release and add scenes, why couldn't they release scenes before a film is released that hint at what might be in the movie, but are just teasers. And yeah Spidey int eh comics wisecracks during two scenarios. 1) When he's beating up common thugs or other foes who are far outclassed by Spidey. 2) When Spidey is getting hsi ass kicked and is trying to maintain his confidence or annoy the criminal enough to get the upper hand... okay I guess I have no point, he does wisecrack, but he also goes berserk and gets scared and gets real dark! And since all of you demanded Venom, you practically guaranteed that this last film should be the darkest and most serious of the trilogy. But there are of course all those sweet and aw shucks moments. And rsanta74 is on the ball with what he says. I believe Pixar's quota for their animators is something like 3 seconds of good animation a day. And it shows! If anyone here has tried animating complex rigs... or hell any kind of 3D computer animation whatsoever, that shit is hard! I personally can't keep track of and lose all patience working with keyframes for each control object and don't get me started on using the curve editor for slo ins and outs! Frankly, 2D animation is simpler to keep track of... but requires a different skillset that's just as difficult to do right using just your hand and a pencil.

The core skill sets are the same for animation. 3D just adds in an extra level of complexity. Not too hard once you get the hang of it. Besides, 2D animators have to deal with their own headaches. Most days, I'm glad that I'm a 3D animator instead of a 2D one. Pretty much because I can't draw for sh**, but that's another story.

Sure you could do it that way, but that's old school and well... given the the modern age of CGI and the high bar of action film and visual presentation, simply cheating... imagine a spidey movie where you see a straight moving shot of a stuntman swinging on a web, a building comes in front of him blocking your point of view, and next you see him landed on a rooftop and just standing up. It works... Now picture if you see spidey swinging from a web, the camera shows him in all his glory from a dynamic angle just as you'd picture a great poster/pinup shot and he sommersaults from the web and lands gently and agile like a spider onto a rooftop an inhumanly long way down from where he'd swung, his muscles flexing upon the impact and the camera pulls back to show him holding that pose, all in one continuous shot... It's way better! Similarily, the Matrix sequels are attempting to do the same, make more crazy action and use more crazy effects techniques and bullet time as everyone was expecting them to do following in the steps of the first film to give us a visual spectacle. That sort of thing simply cannot be done physically... If you want to see mroe action and sequences that are only possible with CGI, go out and pick up a CG anime called 'Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.' Physics are thrown to the wind and the word impossible will always be at the forefront of your mind while watching it, but damn does it look fucking spectacular!

And what's up with the Black Goblin and the flying skateboard. (Still better than the Mighty Morphin Power Goblin from the first one.) But I loved the ring bit and suspended my disbelief over the redickulis time it took to fall. *** With S3 and FF:Rise of the Surfer and Dark Knight and Miller's Spirit and an animated JLA movie and Heroes and Superman:Doomsday, this is a nice time to be a comic book fan.

And given the theme of the Matrix... it's almost ironic... after all it's a digital world where characters can do exactly that... defy physics and pull off unrealistic maneuvers! :P Not that it should get a free pass all the time, there has to be some grounding and perhaps a little restraint on the camera so it's not overused. Really, it's eye candy, and as for appeal, I guess it depends on the person... as someone used to seeing crazy wirework in kung fu movies or other impossible sequences in anime and comic books, it fit well with me... It benefits some movies, and won't work well in others... With concern to the Matrix, I remember reading how because the action in the first film and bullet time was so heavily imitated everywhere, the Wachowskis felt the need to change the style of direction and really outdo the effects and virtual cinematography to a level that nobody had dared do. Which is why the sequels have a different feel from the first. But everyone wanted it to maintain the same style as the first, so maybe that backfired. And frankly the first film is still by far my favourite and I'd agree with you that the action is still better from a very gritty realistic and hardcore standpoint. But I can also pop in Reloaded onto my TV and still be amazed at what takes place onscreen! I can't fathom how any animator would've chosen to take that monstrous task on... O_0

I'd disagree... Whenever I'm in a philosophy class, mind you some real basic stuff, and there's some discussion in class, I can always bring up the Matrix films to illustrate a point about free will etc. and everyone in there can nod their heads and go, "Oh yeah, I get it now..." The Matrix isn't necessarily the epitome of deep philosphical films... but rather precisely what the Wachowskis intended them to be... philosophical themes on a level that the general mass audience can grasp. Basically taking all the things they loved and putting it together to introduce to a whole population of people of whom many would not even consider going near. And superninja, I'd argue that the films do have a point, but that's the topic for probably a long ass article/essay and I'll spare you my fanboyism about the films. Also I'm too lazy right now... :P

the problem i had with the movies, is that it seem to have lost what they were aiming for mythological wise, and the characters were no longer interesting in the last two movies, specially the third one, where all three lead characters were gone for almost an hour.. and the action sequences did not help at all since they did not served the plot, it basically came down to this, lets move point A to B and stop for a kick ass fight sequence that doesnt move the plot but it would still look good on film and then go to point C and so forth.... and frankly, after seeing the real world, and the characters that lived there, i would have rather stayed inside the matrix

In fact I think history has judged them pretty harshly as you won't read too many worst sequels lists without them popping up. Yes the films were philisophical, but to absolutely no end. It got to the point where the Wachowski brothers began to throw in everything but the proverbial kitchen sink and their metaphors seemed like they were written by a first year philosophy undergrad. If you think it meant anything then the Wachowskis played you for a patsy. And bullshit philosophy can't explain nonsense plot devices like Neo gaining powers in the human world or Mr. SMith randomly having the power to multiply. If the consequence of being an old program and getting marked for deletetion is getting some random cool power like phasing or multiplication then by all means sign me up for deletion! Not to mention storytelling flaws like throwing well established characters to the wolves while focusing on a myriad of poorly written and acted heretofore unseen secondary characters in the third film. Or going through all the trouble to save Trinity in the second film with a huge melodramatic sequence only to anti climactically kill her off in a crash. I could literally go on forever listing flaws but the point are they are Terrible films. Right up there with the Star Wars prequels.

That clip now represents my favorite action scene of all the Spidey movies, including the vastly overrated part 2. Harry as "The Goblin" is easily 10 times the Green Goblin his father was. And it finally delivered on something that I always felt was sorely lacking from the first: an AERIAL Spidey-on-Goblin fight! talkback here, cause I wanna see this one as spoiler free as possible. But I do have a question for you all...I currently have on rotation in my dvd player, Spidey2 X2-3, Spidey1, Batman begins and Superman returns..and I noticed something that,I hadn't noticed before...not many of these movies have a lot of "heroing" going on...Most of the stuff that is going on in these movies, is either caused somehow by the hero ie SR, or the people they are doing the heroing for are people they know and love...but not a lot of actual Vigilante superhero Justice is being dealt in these movies...Am I making sense? I think the original Superman and to a lesser extent Spidey 1 had the most selfless heroing going on...by that I mean, scenes where the hero is doing stuff to help out strangers, like getting a cat from a tree, or stopping a robbery..but in most of the newer movies, almost everything is personalized...And I love most of these movies...I guess what I am saying is , why isn't there more than thirty seconds of montage of either Superman or Spidey doing their thing in their respective movies? They are supposed to be heroes..but they aren't REALLY depicted as so... I mean, I get that they need to have something to tie the characters to, but, I think it's time for the heroes to just deal some street justice..in public...like in the comics...Anyone agree disagree? I wanna see Batman out on patrol, I wanna see Spidey stopping more than just the passing robbery...like a whole day of him going through the day as spidey would be awesome you know? but I guess they save that stuff for the "big" showdown..wadda you guys think??

4) Deadpool, 3)Johnny Storm 2)Bobby Drake (Iceman) 1)Peter freakin' Parker. Say what you want about Story, but the film version of Johnny Storm is the only one that comes close to that. Granted, Deadpool hasn't been put to screen yet, still hoping for Ryan Reynolds there. But both Iceman and Spiderman have been woefully mis-written as broody types. Iceman should have been the Xander of Xmen - joking to cover his feelings of inadequacy. But it was not to be. I do enjoy the Spiderfilms, and that scene was pretty cool. But I agree with previous poster - I just wish there was some more stuff with Spidey being a wiseass. Unfortunately, I don't think Maguire could pull it off even if it was written for him. Oh well. Maybe the recast in Spiderman 4 will be better.

thanks for saving me the trouble of doing venom screen grabs...but is it just me, or did venom look better before they added more CG to him? looks lik they made the teeth smaller and removed the tongue...im starting to get worried :( the clips however were great, and ill admit the XXXTremem Goblin fight was better than i thought itd be. and i know im not alone when i say that in a movie like this, i kinda like the over the top CG flourishes they do in films like this, it hasd a kenetic energy i kinda like. sure i want photoreal but i know it aint gonna happen so just sit back and just enjoy for once in your sad lives

this is definitely not too much! In the trailer there are shots of a) Harry being carried on a stretcher with a neck brace, and b) getting one of those fire balls exploding in his face. So it's pretty obvious that this is not the end of Harry. In fact, I'd prefer these kinds of teasers than a trailer choc-full of images from throughout the movies. This was a GREAT clip!

I waited until five to get the NBC version to work and the big picture is nice and sharp. Heck, even the clarity in Aunt May's kitchen was impressive. * One thing, though. I know we've seen enough House/Grey's/ER so we expect someone to put some effort into CPR when they try to revive someone they know. But the way Maguire was leaning into Harry's chest like that, his Spider-strength would have shattered all of Harry's ribs. * I also grab and dragged the slider to try to get a good look at the scenes in the montage at the end and there's much good stuff to be seen. Cool News indeed. (Especially black costume Spidey shoving Sandman's face into a moving subway train. But did anyone else crack up at the scene of Tobey snarling and waving his fist in the air. Sure it's a comic book flick, but that was way over the top and I hope that's a very quick moment in the film.

Haters should, as the old saying goes, suck it. Suck what you might ask? I don't know. how about the venom out of a cobra's ass. This clip is fantastic. The care and detail put into this film is obvious. I'm fine with criticizing stuff, but I'm at a loss for what planet people live on that could hate on that preview. My only nitpick is that's its a little too dark to see all the total awesomeness. I hope it gets lightened up just a bit but even if it doesnt... whatever. I know that some people that worked on this scene will read this talkback - so I just want to say - great effort on some truly spectacular movie magic. You should be incredibly proud.

Kids, to the ones who are displeased, you might be taking for granted what you're looking at. We're seeing PP web-slinging all around NYC whereas before we had to be satisfied with Spidey in sometimes not-so-great CGI. Considering the many complaints made about the mediocre Green Goblin suit from the first film, I think it's actually not so bad that we see Harry doing his thing looking like a snowboarder. After all, if I were a rich kid with limitless resources, I'd probably do something after my own interests. Seeing a young person on a snowboard or skateboard isn't really so out-of-line. The Tim Burton-esque mask was stupid. The action was dynamic and fluid. And this was just a few minutes. Before any of us gets too much on one side of the argument, for or against the film, what do you say we all agree to see the film first? There were a lot of knowing little details in the few minutes Sony was smart to release. My fave was the nipple on Sandman. I'm not happy with the appearance of Venom in this film. Never liked him. I hope it works out. As you were.

...I was born in 1963 and read "real books" before I read comics. My mother was suspicious of manga. When I did get ahold of one of those sixties style phone books with multi-colour paper...I was a bit disappointed. I prefered the heroes I loved Atomu and Tetsujin as anime...where they seemed alive. But then I got my first American comic book the Superman where he gets an alien virus and has to be blasted into space because of possible infection threat to Supergirl. He was saved by the Bizarros when they threw kryptonite at him "because we love him so" this included white krytonite which killed the virus. My first American Spider-Man comic was right after Gwen died...trust me much angst in this now classic story. If you want a truly light-hearted look at Spidey there is always the Electric Company, or the version televised in my homeland. We gave Spider-Man a cool theme song almost as good as the American anime and also a giant robot (and you thought the Goblin suit was "Power Ranger"?)he took his orders from an actual spider in his bedroom. There are many clips of this series on YouTube...go investigate this before the Corporate Shoguns of my native land who know nothing of free advertising have them all pulled down.

I guess the arguement could be made he was preoccupied with thoughts of asking MJ to marry him but what about the coffee shop scene in Spider-man 2. I'd say that was an equally distracting moment but he still sensed Octavius's attack before it happened. Also the whole Peter on a scooter thing is a bit lame, I wish they just had him getting around the city by swinging like in the comics.

Theres only really been one film with CGI scenes that truly convinced me - Jurassic Park. Not all the scenes mind you, but most had CG stuff that looked like it belonged in the frame. When the T-Rex attacks the land cruisers the first time, the puppet head nudges the front of the car, raises out of view then the CG dino takes over as it walks towards the 2nd car. Now THAT was good CG, the lighting matched, colours were good, the works. CG people are good enough now that we can suspend disbelief enough to enjoy what we're watching, and that will only improve.

The Japanese Spidey is amazing! No pun intended. And it wasn't me who thought Harry looked like a Power Ranger, but you have to admit, it's a funny line. I don't really have a problem with him dressed as he is. My God, Peter Parker is wearing red, white and blue tights and no one bitches about that! And while I'd like to see less pseudo-darkness in these Spidey flicks, I can also go make my own stories, so while I criticize, I also appreciate them for what they are: this is the first time we've seen Spider-Man realized in a good way in moving pictures. It's a terrific achievement, when you think about it. This sort of stuff is not easy to convert to film, and Raimi's done it very well. And while I am very much looking forward to Spidey 3, I am also looking forward to the coming Batman film by Nolan. 'Batman Begins" was terrific.

Rough CGI aside, slightly wooden acting aside, this movie, like the first two, will be shitloads of fun to watch. I've got cheadle running down my pantleg just from this clip. It doesn't even matter to me that I cannot believe for a minute that Harry, even with all his money and power, can learn to design and ride a glider like that. And unless he drinks some formula, there's no way he can match Spidey's strength, so I assume he does chug-a-lug some green brew. I just can't believe they're gonna squeeze all this into one movie. Peter deals with the darkness of the symbiote, reckons with Sandman, competes with Brock, settles the score with Harry, loses the symbiote, defeats Sandy, witnesses the birth of Venom, deals with a giant Sandy, and (I'm guessing, since they haven't hinted at pt. 4) defeats Venom? I'm out of breath just thinking about it. I think when it comes out I'll just pay to watch it three times over in one sitting, and naturally I'll have a box of kleenex to wipe my geek spooge.

I'm not sure what folks really expect from the CGI in these films, but I don't have a problem with what we're seeing effects-wise. I do agree with superninja and a few others, though, about Tobey's Spidey just not quite hitting home in any of these movies. Peter's and therefore Spidey's life is definitely pain and angst, but the Spidey suit is Peter's escape hatch from that most of the time. He puts it on and he gets to act like he hasn't a care or a serious thought in the world. The wise-cracking iks his steam vent (and possibly the only thing that keeps him from killing a lot of street-level thugs with his enhanced strength and reflexes). Peter can be as mopey as he needs to be, but inside the suit he needs to rattle off jokes rapid-fire. Even if they aren't funny. In fact, many of them shouldn't be funny...they should be infuriating. Anyway, despite that major flaew in the writing and acting of the main character, I've loved all of these movies and I suspect I'll love this one, too.

A little horror, a little humor, a little pathos. Raimi doesn't shy away from the outlandish like Doc Ock or Sandman. I mean, yeah, the Goblin turned into some super-military-armor-and-weapo n supersuit on a boogie board...but Raimi at least sees fit to include some of the more outrageous villains here and there. I'm thrilled they'll find a way to work Venom into the series without Spidey zipping off to some planet in some other dimension and "oopsie" picking the wrong costume generator. Mysterio and Electro would work - but they would admittedly need some costume revisions. Mysterio's disco-ball head may not translate to film...but Raimi could make it work. Even the minor hit-or-miss bits in these Spidey films are better than the best parts in other recent comic book films. This is easily the modern blueprint for how to handle a comic book-to-film series.

Here are the biggest problems with the FX I see. First off it's (hopefully) not finished. If it is, then they need to stop and take a good look at what they're about to release, because the effects are worse than the first movie. The biggest problem I see is that they refuse to put pure black in any of the CG. When I was in school, the professors would always preach about how you should never have pure black when you render. Seems like whoever's doing these effects are all about the same gospel. Well it's wrong, obviously. All you have to do is look at how the CG doesn't match up with the live action. The live action has deep blacks, but the CG only has dark grays. Plus the CG looks blown out. I have to agree, it still needs work.

Peter's face maybe MAYBE changes just a wee little bit before Harry nails him, but it's hardly the look of sudden concern that goes with the spider-sense being activated. Plus, I should remind everyone, we saw this exact same thing in Spidey 3 when Peter is on his scooter with his gay little helmet. A speeding car bears down on him, and not only does his spider sense go off, but he FLIPS backwards into the air off the bike, which gets trashed. You're telling me he could do that, but not have much time to react to Harry? Hmmmm. Other thoughts. Yes, Aunt May looks beautiful. I wonder if she is cleanly shorn or if it's a jungle down there. I'll bet those glutes are nice and firm, but have just the right amount of give for pushing. As for MJ and Gwen, y'all can argue till the cows come home about who is better looking. I think Dunst is cute, and yes I would bang her in the orifice of her choice. As for the CGI, sure it looks a little rough if I let my eyes (and mind) get critical, but hey, this is a fun superhero movie about a guy who can climb walls and jump like a spider. Real people can't do that, and the Spidey franchise has come closer than anyone to making it look like a person CAN do it. I love you Sly! And Tobey please sign on for more movies. I mean, c'mon. wow, the talkbackers get younger every year. I would have been impressed with this too, in middle school. But where's the artistic style that bridges reality and this surreal fight in New York. All of a sudden you have Pete Parker, riding his little scooter, fat, stiff and out of shape, and the next second, you have him doing all sorts of mind-bending acrobatics. I thought that putting Peter Parker in one of these fight scenes would be a good thing, and once they get into the alleyway, it is good, but the aerial daring do and the ring drop catch and all that cgi-stunt doublery really takes one out of the scene. Where are the close-ups? I think that would add alot, or else this film risks becoming a caricature of itself. Even in the comic books, the framing always kept Pete Parker/Spider-Man pretty front and center in the action, no flying from one side of the frame to the other like a goddamn ragdoll. This is dissapointing, and I'm afraid I will be dissapointed with the film entirely. It seems to have lost the soul in the action scenes and then tags the soul back at the end of the scene, but by then, it's too late to empathize, because we just saw Peter Parker pull a looney toon's move on Harry, and Harry's body acts accordingly, denting the pipe, flipping in the air. And the final moments of desperation for Peter feel false because of how comical the proceeding violence was. This is a bitter feud between friends, not Kung Fu Hustle. Know your concept in your heart and be intelligent, it's the most important part of creating a visual effects shot that feels cohevise with the rest of your film

Not just because of the emphasis on bodies and the outlandish costumes, but because of the isolation experienced by the characters. I am 100% sure they will show more stuff and by the time the movie comes out everyone will end up watching the coolest scenes and there will be nothing left to watch in theatres. On the other hand both DISNEY and FOX are saving whatever awesome stuff they have for POTC 3 and F4:ROTSS and will be doing one huge kick ass marketing 2-3 weeks before their movie releases. FOX has already started marketing F4:ROTSS as evident with the teaser, posters all over USA and theatres and 1 week TV-SPOT campaign last week. NOW they probably won't show anything more until MAY and ofcourse the first two weeks of june will be Huge marketing blitz for F4:ROTSS. POTC3 marketing will start in april and then big time marketing once spider-man 3 is released.

I know everyone has an opinion but since when is everyone a CGI expert? These movies in my opinion are the best comic adaptations to date mainly because the flaws are few and far between. I try to find something to love with every comic adaptation,for some it's easy (XMEN 3,Ghost Rider,Daredevil,and Punisher) and others it's next to impossible (Hulk,Batman and Robin and Elektra) but I think Spiderman ,Spiderman2, Xmen 1 and 2 Superman Returns and Batman Begins are in a different class altogether. I think Raimi did a great job with the source material and continues to do so.

Killing off Doc Ock after turning him back good means no original Sinister 6 but I think they could mix it up a bit by keeping THC as Sandman, Dafoe as the returning Green Goblin,add Bruce Campbell as Mysterio ,Mickey Rourke as Camelion,Lance Hendrikson as Vulture and Bill Goldberg as Rhino. Spiderman would have to swallow his pride and turn to the mysterious "Black Cat" and Harry Osbourne for help. That would be awesome and epic in my mind. At the least I want to see Bruce as Mysterio or some major villan and I would love to see Mary Jane recast as Laura Prepon from that 70's show. Anyone else?

That was the single coolest fight scene I've ever seen in a superhero movie or otherwise. The scene w/Aunt May & Peter also was subtle, heartfelt, real, & great. My only very minor complaint is that Pete's Spidey sense didn't buzz a little before he's scooped up. All in all still awesome & exactly how I pictured fights really goin down in the comics I used to read as a kid. I don't have time to read the others comments, but if anyone didn't like that then you'll never be happy and you're just a sour puss in Granny's basement that will never leave there. I'd like to see any one of you helm somethin like that.

That's one of the reasons why Spidey was able to usually avoid getting splattered by the bad guys. And Spidey would get hurt, so I wish he wasn't getting thrown through windows and into the side of buildings without showing any sort of pain. I do remember in the second one where he was losing his powers and he fell onto the car if I'm not mistaken. "My aching back" or something like that was said.

I read all the feedback before watching the clip (while it was downloading, actually), so I didn't know what to expect when I was ready to watch it. Now that I have, I say with all my heart that all you morons who don't see the value in this clip can fall off the face of the earth. That clip friggin RULED. I'm more psyched to see this movie than ever. FYI, CGI never looks as good in these clips as it does in the final film, not that I had any problem with it. I have complete faith in Raimi & Co. to deliver what the true fans want to see. The rest of you go complain about some other movie that deserves your venom. Leave Spider-Man alone. Spier-Man is the one comic book franchise that has been handled the best from start to finish (so far). Once the producers decide they don't want Raimi any more, then who knows what will happen, but so far I've loved the ride. Although it sounds like we'll be losing McGuire after this one, I'm sure they'll find a replacement that'll keep the quality up. Heck, look at the James Bond franchise. How many Bonds have there been now? Six? Seven? Spider-Man can continue going for a long time as long as the movies are treated with respect. Go Spidey!

DaFoe can't come back as the Goblin for the Sinister Six because Norman Osbourne is just as dead as Doc Ock. But they could just have another character jump in the Goblin suit like Harry should have, or even better replace his role in The Six with the Hobgoblin. Actually now that I think about it I would give both my nuts to see Raimi's version of the HobGoblin, I'll bet he would be scary as hell, same with the Lizard. And all the while he's trying not to lose the ring he wants to give to his girl (who also used to be the girl of his best friend). It's what Marvel did so well in the 60s. and what Sam Raimi and gang clearly have read (as I recall there was a great engaement ring chasing sequence in an early Sgt. Fury comic). Any film can be emotional one minute and action packed the next, but it's the good ones that tug your emotions even when the fists are flying.

You stream it, for some reason. I thought the effects were, for the most part, pretty fucking slick. Yeah there's some obvious green screening, but for the love of God, this looks to have some of the most imaginative and exciting action sequences of any film in recent memory, and all you guys can do is bitch! In the comics during The Jackal storyline, The Jackal was able to sneak up on Peter and not set off his spider sense. It was because inside his costume, The Jackal was an old friend of Peter's and did not register as a threat on his spider sense radar. "Oh, it's my old buddy, no need to sound the alarm." Maybe they are using that in this story and Peter will have to deal with Harry spider senseless. It would up Harry's threat factor for certain. I always found it curious that Norman Osborne didn't set off Parker's spider sense at the Thanksgiving dinner in the first one. But it may have been Norman and Goblin were so distinct in Norman's brain that his normal self wasn't a threat. But they did seem to be merging into one constant sociopath, didn't they?

No specail suit needed. All he has is a uber glider but yet he can tear out a brick wall, throw a man well over 100 feet? My problem with the Spiderman series has always been that it does not play by any consistant rules of its universe. I'll buy in to a comic movie as long as it sets its own rules. In one movie, Spidy stops a train using only his feet and webbing, in another balances a cable car and human in opoosite hands but each exhibits the same strain????? and in that clip, uber powerful spiderman elbows Harry in the face, which, according to the feats hes already done, should have killed Harry instantly, but now Harry is of equal strength??? Wow. Thats just lazy and tells me spiderman could have lazer beams shoot out his ass if the plot needed him to do it. No consistant laws in this comic universe.

That's interesting. I'm not familiar with the Jackal story....but I thought his spidey sense kicked in no matter if the threat comes from someone unexpected...in that case a former friend? And I think the level of the threat doesn't matter, meaning if a gun was pulled on him or if a snowball was thrown at his head...his spidey sense would still go off? I think since Norman wasn't doing anything besides bringing a fruitcake, it wasn't deemed a threat.

I once heard Raimi say that he always tries to show the faces of the characters in his Spidey films. That's why Peter's costume is always tearing, why his mask came off during the SM2 train sequence, and why this unmasked Harry vs. Peter fight was put into SM3. He feels that the audience is more engaged when they can see the faces behind the costumes, and that it looks less cartoonish. He actually wanted to change Spidey's costume to show his eyes, but he was talked out of it.

The suit only gave osborn protection from bullets and jazz like that, he already had super strength from the serum he drank. The same serum that Harry found at the end of the last movie, so we're to assume he drank it and now has the super strength aswell... I can't explain the difference bewteen the train/cable car, my only guess would be that he'd grown in strength between the first and second movie.... As for not smashing in Harry's face and killing him.... he IS still Harry's friend, regardless of if Harry is trying to kill him, he just wants to slow him down, not use all his strength.... Kinda like Superman never using his full strength on villains... otherwise he'd be knocking heads off left and right ala Superboy...

Watch the first spidey 3 trailer, you can see harry's death plainly there: Peter walking away, evil look on his face, pumpkin blowing Harry to hell. Peter with the symbiote kills Harry. By the way, this entire clip takes place after the symbiote gets Peter, you can see the dark makeup under his eyes in the first scene. I also hate the extreme sports look of Harry.

Just toss that feather weight to where your standing and then use bot arms to pull up the cable car. But not in the movie, there its a epic struggle as he can only save one at a time. Ill see #3 and I even like all so far, but they took so much car to make these movies, I just wish the plot points would be consistant in terms of his abilities.

Agreed, films should take you out of reality. But bad effects shouldn't drop you back into it. To me it doesn't have to be photoreal, it just shouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. The effects from this clip definitely do that. One moment I'm seeing live action, then cut to video game footage, then live action. Sorry but even the good "bad effects" movies of yore blended it all together into one coherent piece. Even if the effects didn't look real, they still felt like part of the world. I always felt Sony and Digital Domain f'ed up everything they did because they refused to use black when it was required. The darkest black is only ever dark gray to them. All you have to do is take a screenshot of the live action and a screenshot of the cgi into photoshop and compare the shadows. The live action HAS pure black damn it. Bite the bullet and make it black.

. . .the scene was awesome. It looks like they have a strong script again (at least with what I saw) and the action was once again great. Kudos to the effects team for pulling that scene between Peter and Harry off--that was technical virtuosity, and the head hitting the pipe at the end was some awesome sound editing! I'm pumped to see the movie and look forward to seeing how Raimi & Company balance out all of the other characters with the story as a whole. S.

The bluescreen Parker in civvies was pretty raw, color and contrast not very good. Hopefully it's just a rough cut and the final print will be better quality. Also, the scene with Aunt May was a little slow and didn't really have much punch with Peter just standing there like he'd just been done by a taxidermist. It also looks like this film might be a little too busy with Harry, Sandman, Black Suite, and Venom.

Who else think that Jamie Bamber who plays Apollo on Battlestar Galactica might be a suitable follow-up? I'm thinking that he could bring an older version of Spidey, he has the built to wear the suit and with a good Director behind the lens he could do a good acting job... I'm wondering who else could fill in the shoes and make Parker seem a little less "kid that never grew up" feel to it. Not that I'm bashing Tobey on this, it's just that he doesn't look like he could make the character grow up he has that "too young" look which was great for the first two movies (We'll see about the third, I ain't giving up yet) but I'd like to see the fourth movie take place a couple of years later, Spidey has been on the block for a couple of years. Parker has established himself has a fairly good Photographer. I think that Jamie Bamber could fill in after Tobey. He's got the Parker look, actign is not great but then a Tv Series doesn't always get the best budgets to help out and get those 20 + takes and a good Director will help out develop the skills he'll need. Anyways, just a tought...

I can understand the complaints in this series since there have been times when the CGI was bad. But it has not bothered me since the rest of the story was great for me, so it's easy to forgive some of the CGI. By way of comparison, I think everyone can say that the little CGI that was in Superman Returns was pretty good, but of course the story sucked. I would rather have the CGI of Spiderman than Superman Returns if the story is much better. Plus I don't think the CGI was bad in this clip to begin with.

...Dunst just doesn't do Mary Jane any justice... She has nothing to turn heads, oh of course she'll put out like a bent backwards brokeback screaming banshee in the back of Jake Gyllenhaal's 69 camaro, but has far as looking like a top notch model that gets the heads turning... I give her a 2.5 out of 50... They need to get a real looker for the next flicks. A natural redhead would be nice, I'm guessing there might be a few out there. As far as J. Jonah Jameson is concerned, don't change him.. keep J.K. Simmons in! Jesus! WHo else looks the freaking part better than him!?!?!? James Franco was another good casting call that should stay on if they continue (Unless they kill him too in the Spidey 3 flick (Hell why not kill everyone, we all know how expensive it is to keep people behind bars, and the fact that the character actually died in the comic book would be somewhat of a good thing to go on, but he still hasn't met the wife and gotten the kids so...). Who else wants to go at it and see who else could fill the shoes for the next flick...

CGI is not going to be perfect that's for sure, but like you said, when a story is in there we can forget about it not being 100% perfect to looking like the real thing. ANd Spiderman's flicks may not have had an Oscar nomination for "Best Story" that's for sure, it still had some of the elements that made it seem good enough to love the movie and want to buy it. Superman, was the biggest disapointment ever. And the CGI were pretty damn cool. but when you get to the Storyline and you feel like you're being cheated by some lame ass director (notice the NOT capitalized "D" for the title 'cause he does not deserve it) then you start picking on the smaller things that shouldn't even get a bad review. Story aside I would've given Superman Rerun an 8.5 out of 10 for the effects ("Rerun", yes.. it's a freaking copy off of the first movie which makes it the most un-imagined story ever). But since the storyline was so blatenly destroyed then it affects everything and drops it down to 5.

This way you pull some credibility on the new choices. And heck, it,s not like Marvel Studio or Sony don't have the money to back up a big gun on the next flick. Sam Raimi id a good job, but The second movie with Doc Octupus did not push us in a new direction. Hopefully this third one will with all the darknest of the Venom Symbiote. I might have gotten carried away with my fantasy casting but for a dead guy he's made it to every movie so far. I guess the best route would be like you said ,having someone else step in the Goblin suit and scaring the shit out of Parker. I also agree that if Tobey Maguire backs out of a fourth and says he won't do anymore the movies will go on without him just like the Bond films, only cooler. There is just way to much source material to stop after three and for the love of God the money just keeps growing each time. Mark my words if Maguire and Dunst both go out then the casting call for a new Spiderman will bring out the hottest young Hollywood stars around.

didn't get back to your comments quick enough to be relevant to this board anymore... but i appreceiate your comments back. you make some excellent points, and i would be inclined to agreeing with them.

You're probably not coming back to this TB, but just in case.... I just watched the first Spidey movie again last night, and I'm not sure where your problem is with MJ/cable car. Spidey grabs MJ first,swings to the falling cable car, and with MJ holding on, grabs the cable car's cable, and shoots his web at the bridge. The Goblin comes flying in repeatedly whacking him while MJ is sliding down the cable to the cable car. There is not one instance when Spidey is struggling to hold MJ. Not sure what you saw dude...
