I can understand all the cheap shots at Bush and Cheney, given the MASSIVE amount of terrorist strikes in this country since 9/11/01...Oh, wait. That's right... There haven't been any...except in the "24" universe. Still, AICN's "24" spies still love to bitch about "Crazy Right Wing Policies" and take thinly veiled shots at the Bush Administration. Such ironclad logic at work.

...I hope you're not trying to make a 'my shoes act as tiger repellant: look how few tigers I've happened upon since I bought them' argument for the Bush\Cheney administration being responsible for preventing any further terror strikes since 9/11. :^)

Also I think you're being overly sensitive; I didn't see any deliberate reference to the real world in those spoiler reports. I mean, they WERE 'crazy right-wing policies' in the show!

the real time element. the show died. They havent given wayne palmer time. They are threatening to kill him and in exactly the same way that they tried to kill David Palmer in Season one. Boring. Real time gave the show a sense of urgency. Fox killed it off this season, and the urgency was dying anyway last season. In the UK/ireland we got the first six hours back to back. towards to the end of the 4th hour, you could hear the scraping of the bottom of barrell. I think Cromwell is a great actor. but a dad bad guy c'mon, sure he killed his own son but even that was poorly handled by the writers but I loved his put down to jack. "you turned your back on me to become what...a civil servanr". He vanished but the clumsy way the brought back Charles Logan. What was that. Fox should really end this show now.

but I'm avoiding the invisotext, too.

I reeeeaallly hope that there are some genuine surprises in store, and less of the tedium like the past few weeks. TV needs strong scripted shows to offset the tide of reality/talent/game show crap. And I don't mean the CSI nor L&O franchise bores.

Aside from that, I don't see how anybody can take Chad Lowe seriously as a villain when everybody knows he got his ass dumped by the Karate Kid 2.

I still like 24 but...
by veritasses
Mar 5th, 2007
10:01:38 AM
It's getting a bit too soapy even by 24's standards. Season One ranks as the best season because while it was still clearly a soap opera, the characters were better defined and the overall story and actions/motivations were far more believable. In contrast, the last few seasons have been more about the writer’s thinking “how can we top ourselves this time around and make things even more outrageous”. To be honest, this formula approach is lazy story telling and it’s starting to get out of control. So much so that it’s (in my opinion) hurting the overall quality of the show. They should also just get rid of the whole “real-time” element because that just doesn’t make sense anymore. They clearly have a lot of talent working behind the scenes so I’d like to see future season’s work more like a simple good old fashioned, quality, plausible, cat/mouse, spy vs spy, serialized action thriller. And they should stop killing off characters that we’ve come to love and have invested our times in just for the “shock” factor. It’d be better for them to keep strong characters around and create quality drama around those characters instead of creating some action and injecting “generic” characters into the action.
I resisted too.

...You guys crack me up. 24 has had no choice but to devolve into the crazy soap opera that it has become! "Wow! I'm surprised that they've constantly felt the need to out-do themselves." Really? You're surprised? Give me a break. Yes, it's formulaic and it's definitely lost it's intelligence. But it's still pretty compelling and much better than most of the crap on TV. My major beef was with the fact that they could have broken formula and have had Jack escaping from a Chinese prison over a 24 hour period. Also, Powers Boothe? Way over the top, man. Now if this TB can just steer clear of the stupid political BS, I'll have considered this post a success. Stupid liberals. JUST KIDDING! IGNORE ME!

Hopefully 24 can regain its footing while Heroes is on hiatus. I really think FOX should consider moving it to Sundays next season. Heroes has won the ratings and buzz battle (it is the new, hot show afterall), and FOX knows 24 can do well on Sundays (the last 3 premiere have garnered huge ratings). We'll see. I'm sad that the 24 talkbacks aren't as fun as they used to be. No matter how shitty Lost gets, it at least still garners a lengthy discussion. 24 goes into one slump, and everyone abandons ship. Kinda ridiculous.

I'm with USS Cygnus and his superb (some would say 'faultless') logic. I have a 7-year old daughter who was getting beaten up at school. So I formulated a policy - I locked her in the basement and told the school she had died.

Call me a right-wing fruitbasket if you must, but I'm keeping her safe, dammit! My policy has kept her safe since 9/11, therefore I'm not crazy.

Actually, that makes her 13 by now. Come to think of it, she stopped banging on the door a while back. Hope she's ok. PRAISE THE LORD!

That was by far the best episode in over a month. The Primary reason being the one and only David Fury (and I guess his writing partner deserves some credit too). He rocked almost every Buffy script he wrote and now he's bringing back the excitement to 24. The dialogue, the acting and the CRUNCHING fingers were all great. 24 has been going through the motions of earlier seasons recently but for the first time in a while I was actually SHOCKED. I really didn't expect him to cut off the consolate's finger, I thought he'd AT LEAST give him (and us) a warning. Way to go Jack! I'm keeping myself spoiler-free for next week's episode but supposedly its gonna be MASSIVE!

And I won't have to fret about missing Heroes for the next month (though that cliffhanger will eat away at me for that whole 6 weeks). (Spoilerish stuff comin up) [Spoilerish] Agent Pierce of S.H.I.E.L.D. is back! With any luck his kill count will be 1 at the very least by the end of next week (Grizzly Logan perhaps?). Good solid episode. Much improved writing. First time I've felt we've moved out of predictable territory with the plot. With Palmer & his annoying sister out of the picture the GRAVITAS level has increased. wasn't quite expecting the SNIP!!!

...also love seeing Logan back in action! The man is smooth. Hopefully they'll keep him around for a bit. I'm staying away from the spoilers & I don't watch the next week previews anymore either & am much happier for it. I'm thinking David Fury should be writing all of the episodes this season.

When making an EXTREMELY important calls on your cell phone, (1) do not walk towards the door where all the bad Russians are behind and (2) when making a super secret call to CTU (especially if you are Russian security), do not walk out of a room with the door already closed. Decent ep, but why did Jack, after getting the information from Gradenko, proceed to walk out the door into the hands of the people who want to stick him in a gulag, instead of calling CTU on his phone like he did before? Seems a pretty important piece of info and he totally blew it. Not that I would trust that intel in real life, the diplomat only had to lie to cover his ass for the time it took to resecure the embassy (kind of the problem with the whole torture premise on this show). I love the left wing slant in all of Hercules' posts. 1st Joel Surnow never tries to make Bush look good. He does agree with some of his policies. The internment camps were set up by Mr. New Deal FDR (a Democrat, like Robert "KKK" Byrd.) Most Japanese were rounded up. The small amount of people in GITMO are people caught on the battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan. There were just a few taken from America. I do think they need to be processed and tried but I would rather have them in there than on the streets. I'm sure if Hillary wins the election in 08, she will find a way to silence or imprison any one who stands in the way of her agenda (Vince Foster, Norm McDonald, hell even Mike Meyers with the Chelsea skit.) In her Socialized medicine proposal bak in the 90's she was going to make it a crime to seek paid medical treatment outside the system. Socialists would be more likely to create internment camps (re-education camps) than Republicans.
