It's just Tremors but with King

OK maybe not exactly but this movie should have been done in the '80s when shit like tentacles attacking people didn't feel so SO old. I know there's more to it than that but when you've got such generic characters (the asshole neighbor, the religious nutjob old woman, what I like to call the 'King kid') it's not gonna be taken seriously. When are people going to realise we're NOT in the era of the Twilight Zone anymore, we're not in the Star Trek era anymore either which is why the new JJ Abrams movie is going to fail with audiences (Cylon gang-rape and suicide bombers are the thing these days, not Gene Roddenberry's original message (whatever that was)). I LOVE King but this will bomb.
Can anybody tell me?

How the original Mist opens, is there and explanation for the Mist? I read it about twenty years ago and I really want this film to be great. I've heard there's an explanation of how the mist came to be at the start of the film but can't remember if it in the book. It's a small detail. I can't wait for this film. It's about time King got some decent adaptations again

The Mist in the story was never really explained, but it was hinted that it was caused by a black ops secret military project becoming unstable. I've always kind of felt that the video game HalfLife was the prequel to the Mist.

Seriously though this was a good little story.I don't wanna read this and spoil it ,but I hope they keep the ending as open ended as it is.In fact they don't really need to change anything. I don't want them to explain the mist or tack on some shitty studio concocted ending.

performingmonkey... Cylong Gang Rape!! Yes, you're truly are the pulse of the world. I know I'm sick of awesome character pieces that include monsters in it, sooooooo 80's (you know, like those horrid movies The Thing, The Fly, Aliens)... bring on the television version of robot rape orgies as my only need for entertainment instead! Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you?

I've been told that we see the military project in the opening of the script. Which was about all I could get out of a friend who has read it, but he did tell me that the last ten pages of the script are missing so the ending can't be leaked. Didn't think it was in the story but I guess it makes more sense in a film adaptation.

I am a huge fan of this CREEPY-AS-ALL-HELL story. The cast for this film sounds very much worthy of the opportunity, especially Tomas Jane. I'm very much satisfied with his role. Its kinda interesting, this'll be his second gig on a stephen king adaptation. I'm getting so hyped for this. QUINT, your set and creature descriptions are music to my ears.

Has already been done, not sure there's much of a movie in there though to do it as a feature. In order of personal desire--King stories that should be features: 1. Survivor Type 2. The Long Walk 3. The Stand Survivor Type never gets discussed and I absolutely LOVE that story and think it would make an awesome feature. Great character driven piece and human (self) as monster concept. B

Check out Creepshow 2, for the only version of The Raft that you're likely going to see. It was probably the best of the bunch in that movie. It stuck fairly close to the story as well.

"You have sunk my battleship." One of most underappreciated lines of dialogue in the history of cinemas. The accent, delivery, timing... Fucking genius! "You might be a king, or a little street sweeper, but sooner or later you dance wit de REAPER!!! Get down wit yo bad self!"
Bill Sadler's second journey into THE MIST!
by Roguewriter
Mar 1st, 2007

Fans of radio drama may recall that Sadler played the lead role in the ZBS Productions' full-cast audio adaptation of THE MIST. Radio-theater guru Tom Lopez and his team created an all-new audio system, the Kunzkopf Binaural Sound System, to record the audio. Those unfamiliar with the work need to find the CD pronto (it's still available in most bookstores that sell audiobooks); put on a pair of headphones and prepare to have your mind blown. The novella is adapted by Dennis Etchison, and between the script, the stellar performances and some of the creepiest music and effects you'll ever hear, this is an experience NOT to be missed. I can only hope the movie attains something close to that level of perfection (and with Andre Braugher assaying the role of Norton and Marcia Gay Harden taking on evil Mrs. Carmody, it seems possible!!). Can't wait for the flick; nice report, Quint!!

Of all the Darabont script's I've had the pleasure to read this one, by far, was the most perfect ending. And it's hard to beat SHAWSHANK. Of course, I'm not sure the ending I read will be the ending they use, but... a guy can hope.

Also excited to FINALLY read about a set visit. I've skipped all the others, not wanting anything spoiled. With Darabont in control of the Mist, I know it's going to follow the story & I can safely read on. I'm pushing this story on every reader I know. Also hunting down that audio version.

The audio recording of The Mist

That's the only audio book recording I've ever listened to, and I agree that it was extremely well done. I was impressed. rxse7en, I agree with your movie wishes, although I don't recall which story Survivor Type is - I do recognize the title, though. Which one was that? Along with The Mist, I've also been wishing to see The Long Walk made into a movie. And The Running Man should be remade the RIGHT way. The Schwarzeneggar version wasn't even remotely close to the book. If done right, it could be another great movie. I'm really looking for ward to seeing Darabont's take on The Mist. So far, it sounds like he's nailing it perfectly. Let's hope we hear more of the same, and that he KEEPS THE ENDING INTACT.

Yes!Yes!Yes! Could it be that this adaption won't suck donkey balls? Man, it sure sounds like it. I'm still in the dark about if it's going to be a TV or theatrical flick. The descriptions from Darabount and now quint have me thinking theatrical 'cause I don't know how they're going to get some of the gore past TV censors. Please don't suck! Please don't suck! Please don't suck!

Survivor Type was the short story about the doctor who was into getting drugs for his buddies, got himself into a pickle which led to him having to smuggle heroin back to US via boat. Boat sinks and he's stuck on a desert isle alone, without food and only several kilos of heroin. I won't spoil it for anyone, so let's just say, "They tasted just like ladyfingers..." B

would make an awesome movie, jumping between character-driven flashbacks and the monotony of the walk itself, with the constant figure of the Major in the background of course. I would also love to see Dolan's Cadillac made into a movie. In fact, Bill Sadler would be awesome for the lead in that...

It's what Cast Away would have been if Cast Away was good. Dude eats his own body parts! Amazing. long walk would be amazing. But it would probably end up being an indie, the studios would probably hear the pitch and can it in a second. As much as I LOVE DT, i shouldn't be made into a movie(s), it can't do it justice.

I'd fallen off aicn for a time, but I've just been scooped up and thrown back in due to this set report. I have to agree with a previous poster, that so far, this movie has taken the wind out of the sails of Spider-man 3 and Transformers for me. I can't help but wonder what this poster would look like for this film. I envisioned the theatrical one sheet maybe being a lone vehicle surrounded by white, with grey-ish silhouettes surrounding it, but never enough that you know what they are. Only once since I've been a watcher of Darabont's films has he ever perfectly cast a character, and that was John Coffey (aka Michael Clarke Duncan) in 'The Green Mile.' But here, it sounds like he's going to do a great job with the cast. I'm a bit on the fence over the casting of Norton-I saw Norton as a grumpy, older white guy. Quint, you must tell us about the bug-things next time-if you don't, I fear I may either go mad, or have to draw them the way I see them in my head (though one thing I've noticed from reading King's books with otherworldly creatures, is that when it comes to wings, they are usually membranous, which was the way with the bat creature in 'From a Buick 8').
