I find myself far less concerned about Smith directing that I do about the whole written-by-L&O:SVU vets thing. Although it could be worse, I suppose...could be written by CSI:Miami vets...then again, Caruso delivers his lines like he's some sort of hellspawn anyway. Now there's your show. Caruso's CSI character gets killed, comes back as some sort of hell-demon. The kicker is nobody notices that he's trying desperately not to feed on suspects and has to wear sunglasses constantly to avoid direct sunlight...because he's basically acting exactly the same way he always did.

Because unless there's some startling difference, the two shows sound the same to me. And frankly they both seem shitty.

Then again maybe that's the CW's master programming plan -- to make all their shows so bland and so homogenous in concept and execution that the viewer will never know when one show has stopped and the next has begun...

David Caruso rules on that show. Actually, in all honesty, I do think it's the best of the lot. CSI:NY has just never clicked for me and CSI:Vegas just seems like after all these years it's finally running out of steam, gasping for air. That said, nothing beats the CSI:MIAMI Horatio drinking game -- you do a shot every time Caruso either puts on his sunglasses to deliver a cryptic line or puts his hands on his hips in an over-emoting acting gesture.

Trust me, it's guaranteed to have you plastered by the second commercial break...

Brimstone

The show was Brimstone with Peter Horton. He was a cop who killed the guy who raped his wife. He died soon afterwards and went to Hell. The Devil (John Glover) gave him a second chance, so he had to go back to earth and get all 113 demons back. There are all these symbols tattooed on his body and whenever he kills one than that demon's sign will disappear off his body. The first damn thing I thought of when I read the thing above was "that was another show"

08:02:48 AM
What most of the people who talk shit about Kevin Smith don't seem to appreciate is how the man does everything to get his movies made. I've never left the theater feeling disappointed in any way after seeing any of his movies. Now as far as attacking Kevin Smith- let's be honest, attacking his weight problem is just a way to vent on your own frustration of being a fat fuck with nowhere near the accomplishments. Kevin seems to have a really nice family life going and the crybabies on this site are frustrated that they have to choose between spending their allowance on the newest Warcraft bullshit or saving up and hoping they don't piss their pants when they work up the courage to approach some nasty ass prostitute for the first of what is sure to become a lifelong addiction to shameful back alley sexual encounters with crackheads. I personally am not overly excited about this pilot news since Kevin Smith didn't also write it. But his participation means that I'll give the show a chance.

Oh here it comes. Someone says that Uwe Boll is a shit director and its cool. Someone says that Terry Gilliam is way past his prime and that is cool too. But when someone is critical of a Kevin Smith movie, out come the losers who cry “You can’t criticize Kevin Smith unless you make a movie”. Fuck you kid. Kevin Smith is not retarded. His work does not need to be judged by “special” standards. He is a goddamn hack who steals jokes from the internet and writes awkward movies around them. Fucking deal with it. If you are going to defend Kevin’s movies, argue their merits. Don’t just say, “Kevin Smith is a better person than you, so you can’t mention how fucking lame Jersey Girl is”. It just makes you look adolescent and kinda gay.

Nothing is wrong with liking Kevin Smith movies. There is something wrong with getting upset with people who don’t like Smith or his movies. If you like his movies and feel the need to defend them, do it on the merits of the films he creates. I sick of people saying that Smith’s movies aren’t shit because he is a nice guy or that people who think his movies are crap are losers. Kevin Smith seems to be the only director that people do this with and it makes me wonder why. I know that his “rabid fan base” or whatever the people who think that Dogma was profound and not just fucking drivel are called will have a lot to say about the old Jugg Fuckler on this one. If the only defense for Kevin Smith’s movies is “He is cooler than you!” or “He has a great family”, then even you know his movies suck. That’s all.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that Kevin Smith has nothing to be ashamed of and anyone talking shit about him is a cockbag. I don't have a lot of hatred or even dislike towards anybody famous except for a chosen few. Michael Jackson, for instance is a fuckin' child molestor and I don't care if he makes an album that crosses all musical genres and sells fifty million copies - I won't be buying one. Same thing for Polanski - he's a bitch that nailed a little girl and ran to avoid getting ass raped in prison for the next thirty years. Anybody else who's putting out product is doing a job and maybe it's my cup of tea or maybe not. I wouldn't go out of my way to see Norbit, but enough people did last week. I'm sure many of them enjoyed it and that's fine for them. It's not Kevin Smith's cool factor that gets me to the theater. It's because I know I'm going to like what I'm watching. And If you don't like what he does, don't go. Just stop acting like a Joel Siegel douchelick clone and get off your fucking high horse.

CSI
by jimmy rabbitte
Feb 16th, 2007
11:20:23 AM
The Vegas version of this show is definetly not running out of steam. The last couple of weeks have been great. The resolution of the Keppler storyline was great; and this week's continuation of the miniature killer was as good as the Paul Milander face-off from the first two seasons.

However, that's not to say that the lead-up advertising for each week hasn't gotten a bit stupid. The whole "Who Is Keppler.com" thing was entirely unnecessary. So was the attempt to make people think that William Petersen's 'Gil Grissom' was leaving the show back in January. This type of gimmick advertising is what cheapens a show in people's minds. The script quality of CSI (the original) is as good as ever, Miami's is as well.

Oh... and just to hit upon the *actual* topic... no longer such a big fan of poor Kevin Smith...

smith
by jedimindflayer
Feb 16th, 2007
07:14:50 PM
yep, i defend smith; i am one of the apparent minority that feels smiths speak to me on a certain level. i walk away from his films entertained (in the case of jay&silent bob, clerks 1&2) or moved (in the case of chasing amy). i also know that, thanks to that piece of paper the bushies are always trying to burn, everyone is entitled to their own opinion; for every person who enjoys a blunt, a blowjob, and a kevin smith movie (most likely in that order), theres another cat who ain't down wit it. that doesn't make the pro-kevs any less than the anti-kevs (or visa-versa). the thing that baffles me, and it has been brought up on this thread already, is that no other director gets so much love-or-leave; everybody loves spielberg, cameron, and raimi, and everybody hates bay and boll. there doesn't seem to be common ground for this issue- we either love smith and appologize for for some serious lapses in judgement (mallrats, i'm looking at you), or hate his very exsistance to the point where some quite poignent filmmaking gets pitched away (dogma, for what it's worth, has offered probably one of the best treatises on spirituality vs. religion i've ever seen). i guess my point is, fawning fanboys, realize that smith is human- he's one of us with our failings. and haters, it's not like he a golgothan; the dude GOTTA be doing something right. all he's doing is making films he thinks is cool, and hoping maybe a couple of other cats do, too. granted, thats a bit of an oversimplification, but it's pretty much a paraphrase from the man himself.

I'll say it, I'm a Smith fan... I saw Clerks 2 opening weekend, as well as other movies by him. I'll say this, though... JuggFuckler was right. People have all the right in the world to shitbag Smith. We're human, all different and everyone has different tastes... but it's gfunny that those that shitbag Smith get pissed off when they, or their tastes, get shitbagged... turnabout being fair play and all that. Someone said to defend Smith other than he's a nice guy, nice family. How's this... he directs a damn good film. His films are the most human, true to life films of our age. Personally, I think Tarantino is a piece of shit who just tosses a bucket of red paint at a wall and gets "artistic" praise... can't stand his films. People here like him. But that's his style. Smith makes films that are rare... not only are they relateable, but they are real. Yes, we can relate emotions to characters in films, but in Smith's films there are people that I SWEAR I have known in real life, all of us have known little junkie fucks, smarmy store clerks, etc. That's what Smith does well, and the reason people dislike him. We want to relate to characters, not see our friends up on screen.

its not nice, she's a lovely person by all accounts and if you ever met her in real life you'd just want to give her a big cuddle, she's that sort of "awwwww" cute. Not like the character in Clerks 2 at all. But no, I think Smith has a very limited scope for making films, as evidenced by the very flat Jersey Girl and Chasing Amy compared to the great Clerks films and cartoon, and the screwball comedies Mallrats and Dogma. I think he should try his hand at a balls to the wall action/adventure movie. That'd be his make or break.

And he was a pretty good angel, too (since in Brimstone, however you saw one angel was how you saw them all. Saved on extra casting, too). I didn't care for some of the souls he was going after; if these were the "worst," then hell's got a pretty crappy army for armageddon. But the disconnect he had with the time he was hunting in was kind of funny (even though they got the Reggie bar completely wrong).

That's why I referenced the brilliant Shatner song "Has Been" and why I suggested haters post links to the shit they've done. And BTW, I haven't seen a single frelling link here yet. I at least do a podcast. http://tinyurl.com/2dwsl8
