was....THE DEPARTED! I can't believe people went nuts over that piece of turd. Some of the dialogue in that film was appaling and Jack Nicholson was just too hammy. But I did think it was Wahlbergs best acting to date and Damon is always worth the money so hopefully their next project will be decent.

I respectfully submit I Heart Huckabees as Mark Wahlberg's best acting to date. He was funny as hell in that one.

I'll give it a chance, lik I did the Departed...but unless this is a boring remake of an exciting movie from another country...(like The Departed was)...I don't think it's gonna be any good

No more buddy movies between well-known celebrities. I'm not going to believe the story, just give up.

Being from New England myself I love that its becoming the setting for more and more films. New England is just a real down to Earth blue collar place, and im sure it has more than a few interesting stories to tell.
Infernal Affairs had a sequel and prequel.

Diehard fans should check these out, then watch THE DEPARTED. Chinese version is the better one. Sorry Marty Scorcese, but it's true!!!

is awkward in every movie he's in. It was ok in boogie nights 'coz he played an awkward teenager turning into an awkward porn star but it doesn't work anywhere else. Shoulda stuck to music.

Wahlberg is hilarious in Huckabees. A most underrated actor. I was disappointed he wasn't in The Departed more.

Infernal Affairs was good, but I really dont believe these guys saying it was superior to The Departed. The Departed had a better cast, and the changes really seporated the film. Besides, asian cinema is so friggin over-rated and past it's peak.
"Infernal Affairs" sucked

Time to burst some bubbles. "Infernal Affairs" had a really good concept, but the execution was an absolute mess. Compare it to "The Killer" or better yet, "Hard Boiled." Or any Tsui Hark or Ronny Yu film from about the same time. It pales in comparison. "The Departed" took all the right elements and nothing else and then added the best cast of any recent movie, flawless visuals, and a kickass soundtrack.

I have to say, I think the Departed was better than Infernal Affairs imo. Marty combined the original the story of "Whitey" Bulger, a Boston gangster who had an FBI agent on his payroll. He didnt just choose Boston as the setting to show off his actor's accents. He took the original story and made it his own. I loved it and I think its his best since Goodfellas.
I thought they didn't like each other in real life.

There are some scenes in the movie early on where he isn't too bad but as the film goes on he just gets worse and worse. I watched it again yesterday and there are some really bad scenes with him. The scene where he has a severed hand in a ziplock baggie comes to mind.

In addition to them working together in The Departed, haven't Damon and Wahlberg been rumored for the same roles a lot? Or taken roles the other turned down? I always thought Wahlberg was supposed to take the role Damon wound up with in Ocean's 11, but there were so many casting rumors/changes as that went along. And I thought Damon was up for Planet of the Apes and Wahlberg wound up doing that.

But I got the HD-DVD of "The Departed" yesterday at Best Buy for $22.99, thanks to some pricing snafu on their website. Apparently the HD and special edition DVD had the same sku number. Great deal for you HD-DVD buffs.

There is not one movie I've seen him in where I have said "wow what a terrible performance". When I first heard he was going to act at all I chalked it up to his shitty music career because lets face it folks the poor guy can't rap himself out of a wet paper bag but the kid can act. Boogie Nights sold me. Still one of my top favorite movies of all time. Everyone shined in the movie but no one shined as much as Wahlberg. This movie sounds like it will be another gem. Can't wait.

I love LOVE Goodfellas. My favorite movie of all time. The Departed felt forced. It did not have a flow to it. Jack ruined that movie for me. I was pulled out of it every time he was on the screen. I think people wanted to like that movie because it was a return to form for Martin but really the form as I said was forced. It is not deserving of the Oscar IMO.

that it's pretty ridiculous to call it a buddy film because it has two celeb stars in it. Hell, how many big movies out there don't? And yes, infernal affairs was good, good enough to remake for US theatres. But I wouldn't say its better.. it seems like people are just saying that because it's chinese.

Enough with the extremism...The whole "love it or hate it" is tiring....The Departed was an exceptionally entertaining movie... yes, walhberg and baldwin were given excellent lines( very quotable), but I feel thats all they were. There wasn't that much range for those guys kind of making them 2D characters but fun characters nonetheless. The oscar nom is a bit hard for me to swallow. dicaprio and damon were fantastic...You just can't help but to recognize how much of a fun movie this was. Doesn't that in itself deserve some recognition.
Thanks, shaneerich

I loved Micky Ward's fights with Arturo Gatti. He's a proper old-fashioned tough guy, so that could make for a pretty good film.
