Wow - now this is what I like to hear from an actor. Real, intelligent answers and not some Hollywood-agent-scripted-drive l. Thanks, Capone.

Memories of Mr Nighy...
by Charlie & Tex

When we were zombies on our first day of Shaun of the Dead (a shot that didn't make it into the final film) when the undead makeup was being applied, Mr Nighy walked in wearing a white lab-coat and huge, 60's/70's "boffin" glasses. We had not read the script, and thought that he was playing some kind of scientist caught up in the phenomenon, as he looked exactly like the kind of brainiac used in specially-filmed American inserts put into old Japanese monster movies. Mr Nighy was a deeply cool guy, it must be said.

as good as he is as Davy Jones, how much better would Davy Jones have been as Davy Jones?? Although he would have been a much shorter version. He could have tapped danced and sang!!

Love that you talked about so many facets of his film work and stage work as well. He really is one of those rare actors who is fantastic in everything. I really liked him in The Constant Gardener, too.

Underworld was so trite. All the elements were there, ancient war between Vampires and Werewolves, Bill Nighy, a hot Vamp chic in Kate, and she wears leather and shoots gun, c'mon that should have been massive. Instead it was just predictable and dull, so sad.
Also...HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Davey Jones...
by Zarles

...is probably the finest piece of CG character work in a movie to date. Gollum was top-notch for its time, but personally I think the character of Davey blows it right out of the water, pardon the pun. Watching the DVD featurette on the making of Davey is a trip, too. Bill had absolutely no costume on at all while performing the character and reciting the dialogue. He had a pipe and a motion-capture suit on, and that was about it. Everything else about him is completely CG. There's no hat, no coat, no leg, nothing. It's truly an astounding piece of work from ILM, and to have a true craftsman like Bill underneath all that magic makes it just that much better. Nice one, Capone.
VERY good piece

I gotta say, Capone hit it out of the park with this one. Excellent job. And who doesn't come away from this absolutely in love with Nighy? He just seems like everything you hope he'd be as a person and as an actor, not an ounce of pomposity in him. Very good read!

I was Watching Shaun of the Dead, my mum came round for a visit, saw I was watching a zombie movie, tutted her usual dissaproval, then she saw that Bill Nighy was in it, said "Ooh, Bill Nighy", sat down, watched it, loved it. Exactly what Capone was saying in his interview about people of all ages realising that if he's in it then it must hold some merit. Bill Nighy. Got my mum to watch a zombie movie. Top bloke.

and her "gutsy, artsy, bold" and yes still morally wrong rape scene, can someone get Harry's fat ass off the top corner of the screen? 2 months of Empire State Building sized enemas and pole dancing is long enough. oooh, look! someone is reporting that some movie is in the works and it has a BIG name (yet to be unnamed) but a female nonetheless and so All the motion lotion supply in the tri-states will be decimated because ooh, she's hot and a movie review without masturbation means nothing. peace.

But with a subject like Bill Nighy I suppose its not as hard as it seems. Props though to Quint for getting some insight into a guy who should be considered a national treasure. You're absolutely right that a certain elation comes from hearing of Bill Nighy's involvement in a project. No one makes working for the industry and himself in equal measure look so classy and easy.

Remember when Johnny Depp was nominated for Pirates?
by Admiral_Snackbar

Well, in my opinion, Bill Nighy should have been nominated for Pirates 2. Too bad the Academy doesn't recognize the talent involved to create his character. I'll settle for the Special FX Award, as long as Bill gets to go up and give the speech.

Ask him when he'll finally get around to the role he was born for: Samuel Beckett. (Playwright, not Quantum Leaper; that's been done.) Fine interview.
