And, "too much tongue-in-cheek?" It's a movie about a bike-riding, flaming-skulled superhero. I expect nothing less.

C'mon, how can a moviephile like Le Chiffre get the title of Superman RETURNS wrong? So he must be making up for the fact that he is planting his seed early to give this movie some great buzz. So yeah, I would got with the plant theory.

That's great! Because, you know, Ghost Rider is a fucken comedy and all. Nothing dark about the subject matter, deals with the devil, transforming demonically, etc, all happy happy shit. Eva Mendes wasn't mentioned above, I hope that's because they cut her the fuck out. Bitch can't act and has no place in a Ghost Rider flick. Yeah, I'm still looking forward to seeing this, but I doubt it'll be Ghost Rider as it should be.

...never a good sign. Now it sounds like they're showing just enough advance screenings to say to the naysayers that, yes, it was prescreened. But these screenings are happening mere hours before the movie opens. It appears they are expecting terrible reviews and do not want negative buzz to flatten the opening box office. MSJ says that he took post-production down to the wire and did not have the film ready for earlier screenings. WTF? This thing is already about a year overdue. How much time could he possibly need?

Please, trust me. It was not good. The only good thing in it was Sam Elliott. Wes Bentley was ridiculous. Peter Fonda did NOT steal the show. The "fight" scenes lasted exactly two turns. The bad guys would hurt Ghost Rider, then Ghost Rider would hurt them. Save yourself some money and avoid this turd. For real.

There was nothing in this guy's review that indicates he's seen this movie. It's vague and only comments on scenes we've been shown in commercials. In fact, I saw the scene where Fonda comments on the bike this evening. The only thing this review showed me is that this site will post anything. P.S. I hate to continue being negative, but please take down that image of Harry imitating an impaled walrus doing a reverse pole dance.

I am psyched to see this movie. Nic Cage is a great actor and makes kick-ass action films. MSJ is underrated, DD:DC was a great movie so give this guy a fucking break. There's a review over at Superherohype.com if any of you miserable gits wants to check it out. Although as it's positive it must be a plant right? And this movie is being screened for critics next week. It might not be the Citizen Cane of comic book movies, but it sure as shit won't be an abomination. It seems like so many of you want this to fail. Lighten up a bit people, this movie is probably going to be quite good.

When someone goes out of their way to point out 'nods' to other subjects out of the movie context... I hear someone saying "Oh look.. weren't we clever?" This review is utter horseshit. Besides... Cage coundn't act his way out of a wet paper bag with a brand new Ginzu Steak Knife. He only has two speeds: 'Flailing Hands' & 'Nasal'. Why do people make excuses for him? Probably the same reason why folks try to find positive points to excuse the excessive retching caused by OTHER shit movies like Fantastic 4 "Oh look! Dooms Armor actually looks like armor in FF2, and NOT burn-victim apliques.. that SURE IS SNAZY!" Get over it guys.. you are NOT going to gen 'buzz' or positive spin for shit movies no matter how many exclamation points you put after the article title.

Oh, okay. But though I still don't know who the hell "Ghost Rider" is (is he a comic or cartoon character?), this may be good, considering how fun Daredevil was. Much better than Spiderman, for instance. It got much hate, as I understand, apparently because someone dared cast a black guy as a white guy or something of the sort, but I couldn't care less about that.

anyone who knows anything about nic cage should just avoid this thing right away. he does a decent job in drams ( leavign las vegas, matchstick me) but action films. hes just got too much of a cheese factor to him. and ive been reading this site for some time now. i think the whole PLANT thing is hilarious. of course studios are gonna try and plant reviews on a sight like this. especially since they arent allowing any critic screenings of this and they know that no matter what people say on here there is still that audience of people who will go see just about anything. Im not even sure i would rent this movie when it comes out. granted im not a comic book kinda guy but still NIC CAGE= CRAP. there i said it. and this director hasnt really given me any reason to see his new film. I mean come one DAREDEVIL. BEN AFFLECK... ben affleck and nic cage do abotu as good a job in aciton films as jim carey would if he ever did one. ya just know it would bad...

and I don't say that often. I think GR will be okay. The directors hearts in the right place, but I don't think hes the visionary that was needed to bring such a comic-book to the screen. Its one of these comics that just wont really translate to the screen...without the rich backstory, youve got a fairly run of the mill sc-ifi/western type story. Kinda like how if the preacher was made into a 2hr movie.

by jeremykeijo
Feb 10th, 2007

this movie is even worse than the trailer - everything about it is a cliche. there's a scene where, i kid you not, ghostrider drives past a motorcycle cop and - get this - he's going so fast that the cop's bike EXPLODES, sending him flying backwards through the air. yes. and there is stuff like that throughout, stuff that somebody, somewhere, somehow thought would be cool but it just isn't. every line of dialogue, every shot, every ounce of this film is so over the top and cheesy, it's unbelievable. the ONLY thing this film has going for it is that Eva Mendes is pretty much busting out of her shirt in ever scene she's in. srlsly.

Peter Jackson's "King Kong" got A +s all around and well did that do? How many people really loved that movie? Not many. Another one that was a critic fav was that turd of a movie Cabin Fever. Remember how Harry got his panties in a bunch over it as if Eli Roth was the god of horror? That movie was worse then a cleveland steamer. So what that Ghost Rider has lots of good reviews, it still looks like shit and has Nic Cage who is one of the most overrated actors of our time. It looks and sounds too Hollywood.

Roxanne, it really makes me wish this movie had been set in the late 60s/70s and shot like an early 70s horror film. All comic book movies should have a heavy reference to the time in which they were created. It just works best with the character themes. Just watched the trailer again, and while the effects are good, it just looks so glossy and overall design that particular look of Daredevil which appears somewhat lifeless.

but I'm a fan of comic book films. Anything from Ghostworld and Road to Perdition all the way to Spiderman 2 and Batman Begins, I think comics are the perfect medium to be adapted into film. The only way I made it through Fantastic Four and Elektra was because I downloaded them and this film will be no different. I also enjoy the feeling of getting away with screwing over the studios. I rarely download movies (about four or five in my entire lifetime), but if the studio doesn't have the confidence to release the movie to critics, then I don't think they deserve my money.

a period superhero film would be great, but I doubt the studios are willing to alienate the general audience by setting it in a different time (too many questions about why the characters don't just use their cell phone and why do the cars look so weird). Especially since The Phantom and The Shadow weren't exactly box office hits. The closest we're gonna get is the inevitable opening sequence in the Captain America movie.

good thing he didnt end up playing the part of superman either. seriously what does hollywood see in this guy? again and i know its been pointed out a million times but action films arent this guys niche. he should just go back to the dramas and leave the action to the real stars. im not sure who else could've played GR but SOMEONE had to be available that would have at least brought a lil more excitement to the role. and I havent even seen this film and everything i say is based off of what lil footage I have seen in the trailers and an utter distaste for nic cage in anything remotely action related.....

I'm not a biker, but I know the Devil would know enough to say, "Nice chopper," not "Nice motorcycle." Beware of nerds explaining street cred. "everything about it is a cliche. there's a scene where, i kid you not, ghostrider drives past a motorcycle cop and - get this - he's going so fast that the cop's bike EXPLODES" Oh lordie yes, the old motorcycle cop exploding gag, there's one for the ages... And who the hell talks about exploding bike cops like it's a bad thing??? It's a goddamn movie about a flaming superhero demon, and you guys attack this review like he's trying to be an authority on high art? At most it's 10 bucks to watch shit burn for 2 hours, quit pretending your cynicism adds some sort of validity to the conversation. It's a movie, he liked it, get over it.

Nothing funnier than a bunch of nerds trying to be tough guys. I wish I had a dollar for every post that called a movie crap before it was ever released. Remember every fanboy saying Raimi had ruined Spiderman with the organic webbing and the movie was crap? Yeah, some experts here, huh?

Just registered to support Ghost Rider, hmm? And you probably do get a dollar for every post you make claiming that "ghost rider," this deformed & stillborn filmic bluebaby from hollywood's rotten womb, will be anything but putrescent, flaking compost.

is some awesome cinematic work. The only reason Spider-Man didn't suck is because it stuck fairly close to the source material and Raimi has a light touch. It would've been nice if they did the webs unorganic, because that's how it is in the comics where he occassionally runs out putting him in greater danger, and having them organic adds absolutely nothing to the character (in fact, in 2 it was used for a cheap impotency joke). The fact is, Raimi's Spider-Man is not funny (major strike in my book as that is one of the main calling cards of the character) - it's emoed all to heck, a WB version, and could've been much better. It's a formula movie.
It still looks better than Daredevil.

This has a good cast - all of the male actors are real scene chewers. Here's hoping the camp setting is on "high".

...but, yeah, this review takes the cake. I especially like that he highlights how clever it is for Peter Fonda to compliment the bike. Yeah, we've already seen that moment in the trailer about a dozen times.

If you like any movie that has a pre-existing geek factor involved - be it comic, toy, book etc - then liking it is tantamount to shitting on the memory of the aforementioned original form. He may not be a plant, he may just be someone who doesn't happen to ejaculate once a night after re-reading issue 12 of Ghost Rider, the one where it gets really dark, deep and meaningful, man!!! Face it talkback sheep, 99% of you will see this film despite your incessant bitching, showing you up for the cowardly hypocritical little band-wagon jumpers you are. As for this film? Looks OK, will rent on DVD. Oh yeah, DAMN YOU MICHAEL BAY and all the other bullshit which appears on here in place of reasonable comment.

Daredevil directors cut made the movie a whole lot better. Yes there were some cheesy moments but overall it was action packed and paced perfectly. Any know about Joe and Surfing with the Alien? http://tinyurl.com/pv8do

My therapist says I should go ahead and admit that I liked Daredevil, I suppose in spite of Ben Affleck. The costume was pretty solid, action was done well, and the director's cut added some nice detective work. I'd rank it up/down there with Batman '89, with the added bonus of Bullseye not dancing to Prince.

I've been here for a long time and post on occassion. That said, I have better things to do with my life than sit and post on a message board all day. Some of us do have lives! FYI, I'm not defending this movie because I haven't seen it like ALL of you. I'm not going to criticize blindly a movie I haven't seen however.

Because of the casting, plain and simple. Affleck has zero emotional range and Garner looks about as Greek as Michael Jackson. Everything else was actually pretty solid.
