This is a sad, sad day. And here I thought that bitch couldn't possibly get more irritating. I stand woefully corrected.
who could play Motoko Kusanagi in a live action GITS?

Someone who can act like her, but also has _that_ body. Athletic but big boobs, with a face that works with funky purple hair. All I can think of is Catherine Bell, perhaps.

Just recently watched Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society and that was fantastic, so am now going back to watch SAC-2nd Gig (having seen the Laughing Man series).

Anyway, can't wait for next Hellsing Ultimate OVA episode - I'm still amazed they got funding to redo the series (now if only Babylon 5 got the same treatment).

Afro Samurai is ok, but they could learn a thing or two from Cowboy Bebop (hey, couldn't we all). And has anyone watched Blood+? I think it's the series based on Blood The Last Vampire.

So WHERE'S THE HENTAI?

The directing, editing and voice acting are just outstanding. A great thriller/mystery. At 70 episodes or so it can be slow going but I'd say it's about as good as any live action or animated thriller. I'm referring to the anime version btw. I haven't read the manga and I haven't read/seen 21st Century Boys or Pluto.
Blood+ is quite good!

But more lighthearted than the Last Vampire OAV. Still it's a very enjoyable series!

Also, why is the uncut version of Afro Samurai a whole $20 more? Does it come with 'extra' DVDs that the regular TV version doesn't?

i've seen cromartie and FLCL and samurai champloo and steamboy, plus miyazaki's recent stuff like sen to chihiro and howls castle, etc.

has there been anything killer lately or is the scene as bland as i perceive it to be?
not to say...

I hear it's supposedly up there with Ninja Scroll as far as the whole Samurai action genre is concerned. It's available for download as well but I can't stand subtitles.

I just cant wait to see a live action GitS. I do hope it gets the budget and talent it deserves. I think James Cameron has the right stuff to direct and make it truly epic. As to who should play the Major... Hmmm
tekkon kinkreet?

Correct me if I'm wrong but does Basilisk have scenes of a giant ripping the arms off a helpless man, then guzzling the blood spurting from the torn stumps before shoving his fingers up the twat of a kidnapped girl? Yeah, I DIDN'T FUCKING THINK SO!!!

The Major should be taller than Scarlett Johanssen in my opinion, although she is damn good looking. =) She seems to be in every other movie right now, anyways. I would be fine with an unknown actress as the Major, but her body would have to be sweet perfection (why would any prosthetic body designer not make his creation sweet perfection if he had the choice) And if James Cameron was gonna make it, he'd get a budget of 300 million! That would be amazing!

It depends on what kind of anime you're interested in, really. But just for general recommendations, I'd go with Fullmetal Alchemist. Really well put-together series. I'd also say Gankutsuou (The Count of Monte Cristo) if you're into weirder, arty stuff. Also, I have to plug a series called Gungrave that is excellent, but not many people have seen. It's done by the same team that did Trigun, but it has a much darker storyline. Hope one of those catches your interest!

Killer Anime eh? Well if by that you mean something action packed and mature, then you've got to check out 'Black Lagoon!' Hope there's a third season! I've also seen some of Basilisk and it's great! It's what the Ninja Scroll TV series shuld've been... but I hear there's a sequel movie in the works by Kawajiri!

Now, if by 'killer' you mean a masterpiece of epic proportions... or one that's destined to be a timeless classic on everyone's favourite lists... then we're all still waiting for that one to show up... but there is a lot of great stuff in the interim... HOwever I've yet to see Paprika, and I'm banking on that film being the one...
Carrie Ann Moss

You know... if you were to ask me who would play Motoko Kusanagi in a live action GITS... Carrie Ann is the first person to pop into my mind! Now, I'm not suggesting for a second that she looks anything like Motoko... But from an American made live action Hollywood perspective... the GITS movie would no doubt be adapted for an American setting, and if they're going to do that they might as well take a few liberties with the look of the cast since it won't be Japanese. Carrie Ann Moss has already had experience making the Matrix Trilogy with sci fi and virtual reality and martial arts, so she would fit into the role easily. Just give her a shoulder length hairstyle, clean up her complexion to look artificial, a slight purpley tint to her dark hair and we're good to go in my opinion... she's even got that serious look to her face like Motoko. Also since James Cameron is tied up with Avatar and Battle Angel for the next long while, I'd recommend in the first place anyway, seeing what the Wachowski Brothers are up to after Speed Racer. Definately get them involved! If you've got issues with them directing, then get a different director, but have them involved heavily in the script and visuals! They're freaking perfect! Also, I wouldn't mind having them involved in the live action Evangelion plans as well :P. Most likely GITS will be made long before Evangelion really gets off the ground...
Actually when you have the name Motoko Kusanagi....

Then I think at the very least they should have an asian-american woman in the lead. Why would you cast a total white bread actor then have their name as Motoko? Would pull me right out of the film.
Motoko Kusanagi doesn't really look Japanese tho..

but, yes, with a name like that you'd kinda expect someone who doesn't look like, say, Reese Witherspoon. Monica Belluci in her 20s had a fair resemblance to the Major. Catherine Bell looks a bit like her now. But can they act like her? hmmm...
