C'mon Harry, how can you say that! Angel-A is by far the worst film ever made by Besson. The story is incredebly dumb, and that totally kills the film, because, yes, the photography is beautiful, and so is the actress, but that doesn't make a good film. The final scene made me laugh, ridiculous as it is.

Whose idea was it to spell it either Angel-A or, as it appears in the trailer, ANGEL-bullet-A. It does seem kind of condescending to spell it right out like that. (Get it? She's an angel!) Either that, or she's Kid A's mom.

zachary mayo is right,in france and like me in belgium we laugh at Besson 's films. And yes it's his worst film to date. The only good thing i can say is the photography and the soundtrack. The acting is so bad and the script is to be ashamed of. So corny so so corny...

..not directed man. But I agree I did enjoy Jet's acting skills very much myself, plus the soundtack by Massive Attack was incredible. Besson is CEO of Europa wich is one of the biggest film productions this side of the world.. guess the man is busy: major factor in not getting his mind on directing again. My favs by Besson are The Last Battle, Nikita and Leon.

Can-D is completely right. Yet another Besson cop-out, shoe-horning his latest squeeze into a misguided flick. Don't even bother with this on DVD. From a great set-up in the first 90 seconds, it crashes so hard and bad it was painful. It took all I had not to walk out of this.

C'est magnifique.

Luc Besson directed my favourite film, Léon, but I haven't been interested in anything he's done since. I recommend Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Patrice Leconte instead.

So I take it this new woman is the new Mila? Poor girl. Give it a couple of years and she'll shack up with a crap British director and spend her time kicking zombie dogs in the snout. It's nice to see a new Luc film but it appears to be similar to what has come before but in the wonderful media of black and white. Still, it is Luc Besson and I'll give him his chance.

Thank fuck I'm getting the Seraphim Falls ads now, instead of that irritating Ace of Cakes shite. That almost made me wish I lived in America and owned a television, so I could purposefully not watch it. And why is it necessary for ads to chase my eyes all over the screen? If I want to look at Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan in cool hats, I know exactly where to look. Likewise, if I wanted to see some fat bastard with the kind of beard butch girls would have if they could, I would happily scroll up to the appropriate corner. The fact that I am checking out other content on the page does not mean I have forgotten about Ace of Cakes; it simply means I have other interests here besides submitting to your super-liminal marketing campaign. Note to whoever approves this bollocks: please don't let it happen again. Thank you.

No apology necessary, Boba Fat. Actually I wondered if you were asking who Jeunet and Leconte were; fortunately I didn't post some explanation or the joke, and talkback, would have been completely lost.

I'm still angry at AICN for a talkback a few weeks ago, wherein I made some smart arse joke over two posts, only for the powers that be to post the second before the first, making me look like a three inch knob.

but I'll be there because you just don't get to see quality B&W cinematography much anymore. And that looks quality indeed. As for the film - again, when someone tells me a Luc Besson movie sucks, I tend to believe them. You can pretty much split his directing career at LEON. Everything up to and including LEON is a gem. Everything after, well, FIFTH ELEMENT has its fans, anyway, but I ain't among them. As a producer he's much more interesting. TRANSPORTER 3, Luc. Do it now.

BIG BLUE, LEON, and LA FEMME NIKITA. FINAL COMBAT and SUBWAY aren't bad either, but not up to the standards of his three classics. Basically, my theory is that Jean Reno keeps Luc Besson's directorial skills locked in an heavily guarded airtight box that he keeps under his floorboards, and only allows Besson access to them when he gives him a role. Why? I have no idea, I don't pretend to be French, so I can't say it makes any sense to me, but I have no other explanation. As for the parts of THE FIFTH ELEMENT that didn't suck - Matthieu Kassovitz had a bit part in that, perhaps Besson stole a tiny piece of his filmmaking soul and used it in place of the skills Reno's holding hostage - it would explain most of Kassovitz's post-LA HAINE films, the loss of a tiny piece of soul.

I'm with H. Weinstein. I really like Bessons work. Nice to see someone mention the black and white no-diaglogue, FINAL COMBAT. Besson beat the great Spielberg to the punch in that regard.

In addition to being entertaining IMHO, Besson movies have their very own visual and emotional imprint. I love SUBWAY for that, even near the end when Christopher Lambert's character breaks out in song.

In a day of remakes, copycats, and film makers who readily "lift" elements from other people's unproduced scripts, I appreciate him even more. There's a reason the man has a following.
