I realized my i-tunes was on and the unconventionally cool soundtrack was really "she moves on" from paul simon's rythm of the saints album. I noticed my mistake, turned off the music and the trailer became a noisy and conventional bore. All they needed was animal crackers marching along Liv Tyler's taint to really bring out the stink.

Hoping to kill this site's 'hunger' problem with gluttony. And my ticket is as good as already bought for opening weekend. I've been reading up on this movie for like the last year on Boyle's Sunshine website. There should be a Batman tie in here, sending the Scarecrow to the sun, hoping to strike fear into any unnecessary spin offs, like a Catwoman sequel.

I'm not being fooled. I know that music is from another movie. The movie going public is smarter than they think we are. I guess they think we're all idiots. Wow I just got excited matching that music to the trailer. I never heard it before I'm clueless. Must go see movie! uh...NO! So why don't they use the music from their own movie? It's not good enough?

a remix of the "Requiem for a Dream" score by Clint Mansell. They remixed it and used it in the "Two Towers" trailer way back when. God I'm a loser. Anyway it felt out of place here. I feel like they should be going for a subtler more "insanity in space" vibe than an all out action movie. Or at least a song we all haven't heard a billion times.

... because only Masi Oka would save a movie with this premise... it's a shame that it's not him in that trailer (even though in one brief shot there was a Masi "YATTA!" pose from the actor) Mind you, going on the suprise package that 28 Days Later was, I might just check this one out... As for the Chronos Quartet track... I'd like to go (at a minimum) 3 years without a movie studio using it again. Love the track, love the Requim score, but something as identifiable as this track can't be overused or it turns in to another O'Fortuna moulded cliche'... Has all originality been lost in movieland? My first viewing of Pans Labyrinth later tonight will help me decide!

Normally I don't fall for trailers but this one I really liked. Guess I'm just a sucker for that song. But it is a Danny Boyle film after all, so there should be at least some optimism. Also, the visuals look great. The first movie stills that I saw led me to believe that it would take place in a more claustrophobic setting. I'm glad to see that's not the case. Sunshine FTW!

That movie is loved in my house. Boyle is cool in my book. This movie looks like my proverbial cup o' tea. I am so sold and will be there opening day. Fuck Spider-Man 3. Give me cool sci fi anyday.

Hiroyuki Sanada is a pimp and I'll see anything he is in. What an awesome actor. The Twilight Samurai says it all for his acting prowess.

Clearly I am not the movie nut/buff I am told I am. I have not heard this music on any other trailer in my life. It rocks and it fits. Who cares if it is recycled? It's called marketing a film. I thought the use of the brilliant Batman Begins score on a King Kong trailer was effective. I like this music used in conjunction with the trailer. It sells it well. Perhaps this movie will have a subtle or minimal score i.e. creepy silence in space and therefore an intense score is not warranted for the film but warranted for the trailer? Whatever. Boyle and Fox already got my money on opening day. I will always hate fox for canceling Angel, but I can't stay away from some of the films they back

Boyle was able to take the zombie concept and make something not nearly as good as the best in the genre, but better than 95% of the other crap out there. If he can do the same for Sci-Fi space flick, it should be pretty sweet. As a suggestion, if they'd just cut Bill Paxton saying 'game over, man. game over' into that trailer, I'm there for sure.

A spaceship should NEVER be called "Icarus"
by Admiral Nelson
Jan 17th, 2007
08:01:13 PM
In Greek mythology, Icarus created a pair of wings (real bird feathers attached to a framework with wax), but when he flew too close to Apollo (the sun), the wax melted, and Icarus DIED. For some dumbass reason, S/F fans think it's a cool name, and have also tried calling the original "Planet of the Apes" nosecone "the Icarus," which is just stupid. You DON'T name a vessel after something that FAILS. It would be like naming a new ship the Titanic, or the Poseidon, or the U.S.S. Sinksalot, or the HMS Failure, or the Surrender. Dumb!

Not the best name ever I'll admit, but given that the ship seems to be called 'Icarus II' does this not suggest a rebirth for the wax-winged grecian? And that this craft is trying to do what the silly pillock in the story couldn't and fly FAR to close to the sun than is sensible? A million bucks says there will be something in the script which explains the name just like that...

Not billions of years, really. I think that is how long a star survives, or at least how long we expect the sun to "flame on." However there are parts of the sun where it DOES take millions of years for the rays of light from the core to travel thru cause it's so dense. So, in theory. They sun could have stopped producing light in it's core hundreds of years ago, but it won't matter for a couple million more years. ...or something like that.

It's like filmmaker standing next to you with a megaphone shouting, "THIS IS FUCKING FORESHADOWING WHAT I'M ABOUT TO SHOW YOU!" Anyway, looks like a typical Boyle flick. I'm sure the first two-thirds will be quite involving and the last third will be an incoherent mess that pulls a happy ending out of its ass.

I liked the visuals in that trailer, including the look of the ship, the harsh brightness of the sun, and the expressions on the crew's faces, but I've heard that music in, like, 756 trailers already and I don't associate it with the visuals I saw. The trailer works better if you listen to the opening voiceover, shut off the volume for the next 52 seconds, and then listen to the concluding voiceover.

That's just my opinion, of course. I'm looking forward to this film.

striking filmmakers with visuals. 28 Day's Later had a great first two-thirds and a superb final third. It's easily the most misunderstood film of the last decade (read some Emma Goldman and you might get it). Millions was a wonderful family film, which I've come to believe might be the most difficult genre of film to work in, because they're so rarely good (although by that same logic so would horror films, so who knows). I'm looking forward to this film with alacrity.

The Fountain is the first thing that came to my mind when I saw some of the footage in this trailer. Then the music from Requiem kicked in and I almost couldn't believe what I was hearing. I'll assume that all this was a choice made by marketing and not Boyle, because he's pretty innovative and I wouldn't expect him to try and steal someone else's style.
