Terrance Stamp BRILLENT The Rock, unexpected but VERY funny. What i'm really interested now in is who is going to be the agent who always gave Maxwell his assignments the one you only ever saw his head popping out of the most unexpected places...this may end up being really good...even if Hathaway is a YOUNG 99 (which may make the romantic angle kinda creepy)

Anne Hathaway?!?
by snomusic
Jan 17th, 2007
02:24:28 AM
Sorry - she's attractive, but not worthy of the beautiful Barbara Feldon's ankle breaking 99 (50 points to the Get Smart fans that understand that obscure reference). Kate Beckinsale would be a better choice. Not only because she's closer in beauty, probably a better actress, but we might be able to get her into something tight and black just one more time ;o)
I agree - The Rock should be Hymie, but only if Gheorghe Muresan isn't available ;o) Honestly, the weird whine delivery of Don Adams will always be missed so it will be hard to look at this movie with an open mind. Kinda like The Addams Family movies. Raul Julia did a fine job and Tim Curry did a fine Raul Julia, but only John Astin was Gomez.

I like ol' Dwayne...he seems like a nice man...a man you can rely on, the ladies love him, the men want to have a beer with him, he's alright. He has movie star looks, an action star body, and a seemingly fun personality. Its just a shame that he doesn't have the brains to pick out good projects. This movie is going to suck! TV to movie projects - always suck! Reason: There is no motivation to make them other than money. Yes, Hollywood is a business, but the point is to entertain as well, right? Why make this movie? Why? WHY??? Carrell - you are dead to me. DEAD TO ME YOU HEAR!

what with his lack of facial expressions and that bland monotone way he says every single line, but then I saw The Limey recently and suddenly it all made sense. He was fucking great in that film, so I am now officially a fan.

I don't know about this one, though. Isn't Get Smart like Inspector Gadget without the gadgets? Also, The Rock is the great one and all that, but he has a real knack for picking shitty films to be in. His presence is not a good sign.

Director Peter Segal's filmography:

Get Smart (2008) (pre-production) (attached)

The Longest Yard (2005)

50 First Dates (2004)

Anger Management (2003)

Nutty Professor II: The Klumps (2000)

My Fellow Americans (1996)

Tommy Boy (1995)

Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994)

and the guy's only been gone a year. As a Get Smart fan from way back I was excited 'bout this. Steve Carrell was inspired casting but the script for this flick is apparently dreadful. Check out Would you Believe.com, they've got a petition going against the movie. They're gonna address the age difference between Hathaway and Carrell as 99 having a shitload of plastic surgery, Hymie ain't in it, Agent 23 is some new copout agent and there's no Siegfreid. Max has a mother and they get into his childhood. Yeah whatever.

In a word "fnord". Number 23 occurs widely in fact and fiction; from mathmatics to metaphysics and has made a recent splash with the departure for parts unknown by the visionary author/prankster Robert Anton Wilson, whose passing has been noted far and wide. It would almost bring greater notice to the number 23 were it not somehow integrated into such a widely anticipated venture into the absurd, especially that which is the brain-child of google-worthy Buck Henry.

There was approximately a 10 year difference between Don Adams and Barbara Feldon. There is approximately a 20 year difference between Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaway. As a man I am all for older guy/younger girl, but it will be a little weird to watch (and more importantly hard to swallow) any romance between Carell and Hathaway. Beautiful woman with incompetent boob is a staple of televison comedy. Beautiful young woman with incompetent boob old enough to ber father is a little disturbing.

still not interested. steve carrell is funny. but, not a sure bet. 40 year old wiirgin was laaame. sorry to all you lovers of the film. but, it was. it tried to balance edgy and family friendly and failed on both. just my opinion. but, it was like nails on a chalkboard. and, his character on the office has gotten progressively more saccharine. and anne hathaway is silly and sweet. but, kinda whitebread. i actually, to my own dismay, like the rock. but, he's not enough of a draw. and, i like terrance stamp. but, this is 'get smart'. he's hardly gonna get to be a badass. and, when not a badass, stamp can be bland. he's no sam jackson. his presence alone doesn't guarantee much. and, again, this is 'get smart'. i didn't even like the show when i was a kid. count me highly skeptical...

Her, Stamp and The Rock have got me interested. However, the director isn't promising. I got a bad feeling about this.

Also, whoever said Kate Beckinsale as 99 was spot on. I'm sure there are better films for Hathaway to be in (Like that Salma Hayek/Eva Green "self-discovery" film from the Iron Man TB) ;D. It would also make the relationship easier to swallow, but seriously does that really matter. Countless films have an older guy with a young hottie.

Didn't Leslie Neilson already redo this? Seems to me that Police Squad (tv show and movies as a whole) is already a rewrite of Get Smart, and a pretty good one too. Also 2nd the casting of Rock as Hymie but we already know who he's going to be - he's the 'hot new recruit from the academy' character we've already seen in ten bazillion trillion movies before. This will be Training Day 2: Book of Slapsticks.

The same type of let down I had when I saw Phantom Menace and felt like my childhood had been raped by Jar Jar Binks without even getting the reach around. I am hoping for the best with this one.
