I am SO happy for Sly. I visited the review site again today and saw so many glowing reviews for RB and it honestly brought a tear to my eye. As someone with big crazy dreams of my own I have always held a special place for the Rocky character and this movie is bringing that all back for me. I have a framed black and white Rocky poster on my wall(it's been there for many years) and at the top it says, "His whole life was a million-to-one shot." Whenever things get tough I glance at that poster and have a quick thought about the odds Sly has overcome to become what he has:the living embodiment of the American dream. I work days and nights but I have off Saturday and seeing RB is my top priority for that day. Here's hoping RB does boffo box office. Cheers Sly!

I remember reading an essay by Harlan Ellison once in which he complained about fans coming up to him, asking him questions, wanting autographs and photos. He thought that his onlyy responsibility to fans was to give them a new book, short story, or script every now and then and that was it. we should leave him alone after he has done us such a great favor. I have thought about that a lot over the years and somewhat agree. If a celebrity does not want to communicate with fans, then he ought to be left alone. ~~~All that said, i am pleased as punch when a celbrity does rach out to fans as Stallone has done. It shows that appreciation is a two way street and i hope there are more Stallones ot there than Ellisons. I loved ROCKY BALBOA and am glad it is on its way to being a big hit. Cheers to Mr. Stallone. He's one of the good guys.

I got to see Rocky Balboa last night in a SOLD OUT theater... and I must be totally honest... I ABSOLUTELY LOVED it. Where the hell did it all come from Sly? I'm so proud that you ended this character with the nobility and respect he deserves. You poured all that you had left in Rocky's world (and there was still so much to tell) into this film and it REALLY shows. I like the fact that you even made Dixon's character respectable and not a monster. It was the most human Rocky you've done. I loved the drama. There's something which seems to be lost in film nowadays. We've lost the ability to empathize and connect with characters in cinema today. It's very rare that we do. And with Rocky Balboa... It connected with me like a raging left-hook. I simply enjoyed everything: the restaurant, Marie, Duke, Paulie's character being the miserable bastard we all know and love, and the the cameo's (especially Rocky's old foe we see hanging out at the restaurant). I'm trying to be spoiler free here. :-) The film TRULY stands on its own. It felt like all of your previous efforts were prequels to this film, and I truly mean that. I am seeing this many times this weekend. Sly is getting plenty of my money. I usually see a film (once or a dozen times), d/l if it's available (for those gaps between the theatrical release and official release), then I buy the DVD when it comes out (usually some tricked-out edition). That way, no one loses profits for a great movie and no bootleggers profit off of others' works. And, yes - I will also buy whatever SUPER ROCKY box set gets released ultimately.

Just a request to fellow talkbackers. If you read all of Stallone's Q & A's then you know this was not an easy movie to get made. Especially after Rocky 5. But he fought to get it made, he won, and it's really good. I'm not going to get all preachy about downloading, but this flick deserves to make money. So if you do download the movie, and you like it. Go to the theater and buy a ticket. And if you don't want to see the movie again then give some kid on line the ticket as a random gift of kindness for the holidays. That way you get to double up on good karma.

I saw it yesterday and like I said, it was one of the most enjoyable times I have ever had. I know McWeiner said that BNAT didn't count because people were jazzed to be at a movie marathon, but you can't say about my showing. In my audience, you just had pure fans of the Rocky and we all cheered when the training montage started, clapped when Rocky started landing hits, you name it. And this was at 10:30 in the morning! The movie obviously stands on its own, but there's something about seeing it in that setting- you don't want to miss it.

As much as I'd love to see it, I don't think the magic of these Q&A sessions will ever be recaptured with another actor. This was a spontaneous event that (IIRC) caught Harry off-guard, and Stallone was the perfect class act at the right moment. While it's clearly been a PR event to draw attention to the film, it hasn't had the stink of Hollywood cynicism about it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I imagine more events like this will begin to feel manufactured. Saw the movie at the late show last night, and it was brilliant. As a husband and father who lost his family this last year, the theme of life getting away from you really moved me. The scene where Rocky breaks down in front of Paulie was a heartbreaking piece of cinema that will live forever, like Brando's "contender" scene from "On the Waterfront." I'm not ashamed to say that I love this character, and seeing him so vulnerable moved me to tears. Thank you, Mr. Stallone, for the Q&A, for the movie, and most of all for being such a relentless romantic who is willing to belief in big, goofy ideas that the post-modern world scoffs at. We need heroes, and you're one of 'em.

How in the world could these guys not expect Rocky Balboa to do great? They'd have to be either 9 years old or 90 years old to be so out of touch! Rocky Balboa has three decades of fans! It was possible that the film would merely do "okay", but it was never going to flop. NEVER. Everyone 18 years old to 60 years old and older are going nuts for Rocky Balboa. These financial film analysts need to leave their cubicle and going outside once in awhile. All they'll hear is "ROCKY!ROCKY!ROCKY!....". Talk about them being out of touch with the people!!

and that Sly already "pwned" me, but I just don't understand the love Stallone is getting for this film. Now I know how Star Wars fans have convinced themselves the prequels don't suck. They just see what they want to see. Because if you watch the film objectively it's pretty underwhelming. The giant ad of an ending is rushed and the (SPOILER) way Dixon gets respect at the end after is just laughable, especially considering how underdeveloped his character is. I mean he went from fighting nobodys to going 20 whatever rounds with a near 60 year old TO A DRAW and that legitimizes his title? Please. And the whole interplay with his son would have been good as a mirrored story of them both overcoming their demons but because we don't see the kid stick his middle finger in his cock bosses face (he just shows up and syas he's quit) it jus tfeels extraneous. Perhaps I just expected a little too much from Sly but it just missed the mark for me. I could see the movie being something truly special with an extended version but as it stands it's just kind of weak. But hey, if y'all love it, that's cool I guess.

Did you like, miss the movie? You seemed to have missed the point of everything. Here's a "Explanation for Dummies" that I have created for you. 1.)Dixon DID NOT want to fight Balboa. The point of the fight was not to legitimize the belt. Dixon's promoters saw that Rocky got his license and saw $$$$$$ in promoting a GIMMICK match. They had their own agenda....which was focused more on raising PPV buys than "getting respect" to Dixon. Where do they respect Dixon at the end of the fight? The camera is on Rocky the whole time. 2.) You fool. Why do you need an actual scene of Robert quitting his job?? And how do you know hos boss was a jerk? All you saw was the boss talking to Robert about being late....it could actually be either person's fault, cause the audience sees it out of context. Why is the Robert/Boss relationship so important to you that you need a additional scene of it? It would be completely out of place and out of line with the focus of the story, which was ROCKY AND HIS SON. The Robert/Boss relationship is meant to play only a minor supporting role to the REAL situations going on in the movie. 3.) Will you please stop spilling major spoilers in this Talkback? There are people who haven't seen it yet and it's very rude. 4.) You claimed the training montage was rushed and short. For some reason I actually believed you, but then I saw the movie and you tricked me....it is extended and FINE. There. capiche?

it's like an heart o' meter. if you have a heart, this movie can't help but tug at it. i notice how much the reviewer's who didn't like this just flat out miss the point of the movie. i mean... you gotta be one serious asshole to not like this movie. this movie is pure heart. if you have one, you will like it if not love it like most people do. and it's not the polish or the fight... it's the human need to pursue a dream. you can hear the hollowness in the reviewer's who don't get it. they just don't get it. and that's sad for them.

Hi Sly, I hope you don't have any women get assaulted in the upcoming Rambo movie. I have read descriptions saying a church group gets kidnapped by sadistic soldiers. I hope the soldiers don't sexually assault the women. That would ruin the movie for me having to see something like that. Maybe you can hint that eventually the soldiers will do something, but the women wind up getting saved before it actually happens. Also, virtually every person I have ever heard discuss Rambo, has always said that Rambo 2 was his or her favorite. Rambo 1 seemed a bit too dramatic, while Rambo 3 at times seemed either too slow (like the campfire scene) or had too much going on. Rambo 2 seemed a good balance between the two films. So, even though you have said you would like to make the upcoming Rambo more dramatic, I hope you try to keep Rambo 2 in mind at least somewhat. I think that is what the fans would really like to see. One last thing, your hair looked a little too long in Rambo 3 and the knife also looked a bit funny. I would stick with the earlier incarnations of those two things.

My friend and I saw it opening night and found a long line to get in. As I said then, "I bet this movie will make a lot more money than they expect." I watched the films growing up and this was a very nice send off for one of the great characters in film. Good work! I've actually seen a lot of good reviews, but some critics and studio execs are just cynical smartasses who always think a movie with some heart and some sentimentality is corny, schmaltzy, etc, etc. Once again, they're proven wrong.

Saw ROCKY BALBOA last night. For me, the movie demonstrated this: Rocky, the human being/man, is why the character is a champion and such an icon. One of the themes I love is how Rocky “widens the winners circle.” Politicians talk about it, but Rocky does it because he’s such an uplifting character. Loved his definition of a winner. IMHO what’s great about his way of winning is it takes along everyone who comes near him – his fans, Little Marie and her son, Paulie, Punchy, the boxing commission, and others in the movie...IMO the sportsmanship Rocky displayed is very notable - especially in light of both the recent brawl in the NBA and recent dirty political campaigns (how very timely).

these days it seems that very few films have "legs." Even the big films seem to make a ton of money early in their runs then fade quickly. It's not like the days when Jaws or Star Wars or ET seemed to play in theaters for a full year. I think this movie will buck the current trend due to the word of mouth - hpefully it'll be in theaters a lot longer than some of the other current releases and generate steady B.O.

Ill be seeing it again..this movie will obviously be a money maker because of DVD sales alone. I was in best buy and this 22 year old kid had like the whole Rocky series in his cart and was psyched as all hell to see the movie tomorrow night. It might not come in first place going up against a kids movie but for this movie to be recieved so well by a lot of critics and from this forum of people who normally can't wait to pounce on a bad movie I think its already a smashing success..I mean how many movies get as many sequels as this series did and IMHO the last one is almost as good as the first 2. Thats a miracle and you all know it.

For taking the time to not only answer the questions that were submitted, but also taking the time to actually read through the talk backs to see what was really on our minds as well. I didnt get to see RB today as planned. Instead I realized that my 15 year old son hadnt seen the the first Rocky film yet, so tonite was spent watching that on dvd. Watching that first movie now all these years later, I still cant understand how there can be those people that dont enjoy the character. I realize everyone has an opinion, but the tenacity that Rocky shows is something that most people wish they could posses at times. I recall you mentioning about how Rocky opens with him boxing under an image of Christ being appropriate because of his journey of atonement I believe you said. At the end of the film, everyone seems to be against him, the vegas odds makers, the announcers and even the promoter telling him that it doesnt matter that his trunks are shown wrong on the banner. He seems to be alone for the most part and has a measure of fear in that he knows he cant win and might be hurt badly, but he has a determination to do it and see it through with every fiber in his being. The surface similarity of those ideas/emotions to the events leading to the crucifixion where not lost on me whether intended or not. I am so looking forward to seeing this film tomorrow afternoon! Once again Sly, thank you not only for the rare treat here with the Q&A, but for creating such memorable characters on film that have provided many of us with untold hours of enjoyment. You've earned the respect of many geeks world wide. ;-) Always remember, the geeks will inherit the Earth. Now time to try and start thinking up a question for the Rambo Q&A!!

I have never seen a Rocky movie on the bigscreen before today, and just refreshed my memory by watching the original 3 nights ago. This was perfect, because many of the highlights of that film are referenced or even shown as Rock's memories. Seeing this with a crowd is the way to go, and even though my theater was only about half full (not bad for a 5:50 show on a thursday night in Vegas), you could feel the electricity in the room during certain moments. The opening credits, when Conti's score is first heard; the training montage, natch; the fight, natch, but specifically (small spoiler) when Rock takes a big lick late in the fight, and has a little pep-talk with himself by remembering his words to his son, then tells himself to "get up" (end spoiler), I wanted to stand up and start screaming for Rocky too. As has been mentioned, the final credits with fans running up the steps, imitating Rocky, is a great note to go out on.

Kudos to two late-movie, uh, well I guess only one is a cameo, and I won't spoil it for anyone, but it's pretty funny, and definitely adds to the sense of surreality. The other is a small role, that of Max Kellerman, played by himself, obviously. It was perfect because he got to give the everyman reaction, "The final moments before a ROCKY BALBOA fight, are you kidding me?" Hilarious.

this film (Rocky Balboa) should win Oscars even though it probably won't because they're rigged nowadays. Rocky Balboa is a return to form and is the sequel to Rocky I in my opinion. The only slight problem I had was there wasn't enough tension between Rocky and Mason Dixon, but that's understandable because why would there be? Mason Dixon isn't Apollo Creed, nor Mr T, nor Drago. A very nice capper to the series. It felt great to see Stallone as Rocky again, he really ends up the same lovable pug as he started. I really enjoyed the fact we get a chance to genuinely like Paulie and Stollone deserves a major honorable mention for the scene in the empty freezer. I LOVED the fact that after all the movies that had people helping him in the corner, shouting for him to get up, etc - we get to hear Rocky's inner monologue driving himself. My only criticism of the movie is that during the fights MTV-ish 'montage', it has a good definate rhythmn, and then loses it, and then comes back - it was rather muddled actually. But on the whole I give it a 8 outta ten as opposed to my 3.5 outta 10 for Rocky V. As usual, I hope yer still reading our talk-backs Sly. Thanks for all yer time you given us here and I look forward to your return. Until then I will probably just glance at this site anymore...it just...feels empty without having your posts to look forward to.

The music during the training sequesnce and the trumpet brought tears to my eyes. Also it was refreshing that Mari's sone wasn't a sterotypical gangbanger or a crackhead. I had ta laugh a little that when Dixon comes out, though Stepps is in Rocks corner, he digs Mason' music. Finally the hotel room scene with Maria had me so on edge - thank God it resolved properly. Was a tad disappointed that Rocky suggests the stories, I think his dignity could have been maintaned if a scene showing that his customers regularly request to hear them, before the meeting with Dixon's people. Also Benza's comment about Rocky in his prime was a rather ambiguous statement - couldn't tell who he was saying would win - Dixon or our hero. Finally, the way Rocky "exits" in the final scene is just fantastic!! Seems small probably to most but to me it was absolutely PERFECT.

I had not planned on seeing Rocky Balboa in theaters, but this Q&A has changed it all. You cannot fake the kind of honesty behind Sly; his enthusiasm for the movie is geniune and contagious...needless to say, I was quickly converted. I wasn't familiar with Stallone as such a thoughtful, witty, hilarious, and soulful human being, and was mightily impressed by how he poured his passion into this film. I realized this was not a cheap cash-in, but spirited, from-the-heart storytelling. I'm definitely going tomorrow, and have invited all of my friends to come along - it's going to be a blast to see Rocko back in the ring!!!

In this age of motion pictures, where all you need is a $10 script and $185 million of CGI effects, why will Rocky Balboa be such a breakout hit? Because Sly knows the one thing most movie studios have forgotten. It's not about special effects or the ego (i.e. "actor") du jour. It's all about pouring your heart into a good script and having a character people care about. James Cagney never needed CGI or millions of dollars in special effects......it was all done from the heart. Sly, you may yet rescue Hollywood from the bloated and pretentious monster it has become.....thanks for bringing a much needed breath of fresh air to these tired eyes. And I can't wait for your Poe film......not only are you a talented filmmaker, you're a down to Earth heckuva nice guy. Jimmy Cagney fought Warner Brothers to do quality films, and did it by forming his own company. You don't need some 20 year old executive to tell you what people want. I copied and pasted this from my reply to a rocky balboa review thread, but i wanted it to be in context here too: I know i might get ribbed for saying this! I live in the UK and I work with a guy who's mad on rocky, ask him virtually any question and he's there (on boxing too) - because he's not so good with using the internet i've been giving him the info on the new rocky movie (onwards from when they said they were making it a couple of years ago). I admitted to him though that i hadn't seen any of them, it was like telling a priest i'd never heard of religion. The day after he brought the dvd's in. Now on top of this i've been reading the sly stallone questions since round 01, at first i thought it was going to be a bit of a stunt; my own impression of stallone was that he was not terribly interesting or eloquent. I was really surprised, he comes across as a very well read and genuine person (i apologise for my original opinion of you sir should you read this), i even printed out on the work's printer the whole 20 odd rounds worth of questions for my workmate who treated them like the lost gospels when i handed them over. After working through those every day and seeing how everybody bigs up Rocky movies (apart from 5 i've noticed!) I've started watching one per night, working my way up to being ready for Balboa. I'm on for Rocky 3 tonight, i watched Rocky 1 two nights ago, Rocky 2 last night and i was really surprised because i loved them both. I was genuinely surprised with how funny and human the characters were, especially how likeable Rocky is, and the interaction between stallone and burgess (weird seeing the penguin training him though)! I watched them with my girlfriend (another person who was shocked i'd never seen them) and i admit that i had to fight back tears a bit at the end of the fight in rocky 2. I knew in my mind that he had to win, but i still found myself boxing the air (a bit!) and my heart was manic. I know this sounds stupid but i'm 23 and not many films can do that to me, and i'm far from a boxing fan. So my point is if you've not watched them yet (at least the first two) get them watched, i have and they're top, especially with a beer after a bad day, nothing better to cheer you up.

He's the local movie reviewer for the Austin American Statesman, and while he gave it a fairly decent review (3/5 stars), he said that Adrian died in a previous Rocky with a roman numeral attached to the title. What a joke this guy is. I remember he also said Armageddon was one of the best movies he'd ever seen, and he thought that the Truman Show was garbage.

I'm just making things up here but....I'd have to say it was an idea both of them had and it was Adrian that had the jacket in the basement for him to change into before going into the dining room. Only Adrian could have gotten him primed for the PR of telling his stories, that probably started with Adrian fighting it at first telling Rock to get outta the dining room until she observes that his stories are requested and he's part of the draw to Adrian's, and that's where the jacket came from. And I STILL say there should have been a scene showing his stories were requested so Rock's dignity is maintained for us the audience, when he makes the offer to Benza's crew.

'Rocky Balboa' is a fitting coda to the legend of Rocky, and allows the audience the opportunity to see a graceful bow and give the man his long-overdue standing 'o'. Showing us sheer will, passion and determination can conquer all has been the backbone of the character and the creator, and Sly, you have done that in spades tis time. Good luck adventuring onto the second part of your storied career; I know somewhere in you there's an 'Untouchables' or 'Unforgiven' (or even a 'Medicine Man' or a "Space Cowboys')in you waiting to be found! And Harry, congradulations on once again showing the power of the Geek Nation. Us faceless masses can control a great deal influence when organized, and you have shown time and again you provide that organization. Let this 200 Questions show that, as a whole, when led by you, we can move mountains, make or break projects, and demand to be heard and recognized. and have to say my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Therater was about 1/4 full at a 2pm show. I asked the ticket person what's been hot and she said "Surprisingly, Rocky is doing the best." I loved this simple but powerful story. The time just flew by. *MINOR SPOILERS*I loved the line to Marie about "Why do you think you should be owned something before something good is offered to you? (paraphrasing, of course.) The boss wasn't a dick, he too just saw that Rocky's son wasn't doing all he could. No need to have a big "I quit" scene. The scene in the restaurant where Rocky asks if they want to hear a story? Of course he would ask them that. He didn't know them and they asked him to come over. I'm sure he was used to that request. The Montage? Just enough, We got the point (and man, Sly was in great shape.) No problems with the fight scene. Looked completely like the real thing. And again, the right length and completely believeable. Always leave the audience wanting more, and while I think this was an ideal closing chapter, man, I want more. And I do think that was Link and Cuff (they live 50 years or so.) Not to target a particular russian automatic weapon, but I seriously don't understand any major criticism of this fable. Being 49 as of yesterday, I could relate completely to Rocky's uneasiness with unfinished business, and the idea of trying once again to get back in the ring of life. I also can't imagine a life without my wife, and while I think Rocky may still visit Adrian everyday, the talks they have will be more uplifting. Especially when he is there with his son, or talking about Steps, or even when he introduces her to little Marie. EVERY STUDIO should have a requirement that for every $100 million CGI-fest a director wants to make, they should also have to make a simple $20 million dollar film. Mr. Stallone, THANK YOU for this. You have made a beautiful, touching, timeless picture.

I remember the original "Breathless" and my film school professor pointing out that before that film, if someone was coming into a room, there would be a shot of them opening the door, walking in, and closing it. After that, a hand on the doorknob was enough. The point being you do not have to explain everything. Audiences GET it. Father-Son friction? We get it. Back in the old neighborhood? We get it. Rocky being old but still powerful? We get it. Mason Dixon not getting respect until the end? We get it. RB could have easily been 20minutes longer and nothing would have enhanced the story.

I quite liked the fact that Rocky's stories were "offered" rather than "requested." It nicely and subtly highlighted the fact that these stories of past glory are all that he has left. The customers at the table seem to know all the beats of the story, as if they'd heard it a million times. Perhaps they used to request the stories, but now they're just humoring the old champ. Does this put a dent in Rocky's "dignity"? Not at all. It shows us that he's human. Like Paulie said, Rocky's "living life backwards." I thought it was a poignant touch.

Now thats an amigo movie i wanna see...You are so right about the state of boxing.Ali/Foreman, Leonard/Hearns/Duran, Tyson and anyone (although I remember one friend came overto watch Buster Douglass beat him in Japan...man was that surreal), there are no great fights anymore. I'd say almost 20 years. It just dosen't connect. I'm sure that's why he made it an 'exhibition fight." (btw, except for the second match in RIII, they all were "set-ups). Boxing is a lost art for the most part. Rock, I didn't see the stories as sad at all. I'd happily sit at a dinner table and recite CaddyShack lines with Bill Murray filling in the details. It was a great scene we take away differently. I got that Rocky would prefer not to tell them but he is the host and doing right for his guests. Sexy, I haven't seen Apcaalypto yet. But it just seems too compelling to pass up. It's good to hear old lions roaring again. I have a glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, we aren't doomed to CGI for the rest of our lives.

I just got back from seeing "Rocky Balboa"...and I don't have words big enough to descirbe how "Rocky Balboa" made me feel. Mr. Stallone made me believe as I did when I was a kid in something beautiful. "Rocky Balboa" was beautiful, and Mr. Stallone's performance was beautiful. I have never seen anything with as much heart, sensitivity and downright decency as I did when watching Mr. Stallone in "Rocky Balboa." He should...no must...be nominated for an Academy Award. for this weekend, which is the entire budget for the movie. Not bad. The moviegoing public is so stupid though, i'm almost embarrassed for them. I have a friend who I consider a great litmus test for everything "average"- that is, he reflects the prevailing attitude of the public at any given moment. I asked him if he would see Rocky and he said "I don't know", leaning towards "not". After all, stupid movies like "Night at the Museum" are out so who knows if there will be time? Ugh. Anyway, it took some convincing but he said he will see it. The moral of the story? SPREAD THE WORD! Tell anyone you know that this is a good movie because I think people want that validation before going.

Box Office Mojo has Happyness at 5.3 and Rocky at 5, and those are estimates so that's a dead heat. I knew the child types would be a problem. I actually thought of a movie like that about that place but instead of being cute it'd be a horror movie about the workers getting possessed by the deceased Native Americans they've got in there. Oh well. We'll see how the box office comes out on Tuesday. I think Monday could be a decent day for us. Happyness is a good movie though, not Rocky Balboa good, but good enough. So it wouldn't be insulting if that came out slightly ahead.

Henry Sheehan gave away the story and ending of ROCKY BALBOA yesterday on FILM WEEK, KPCC fm 89.3 Los Angeles. Not only did this disappoint me, but it hurts people like me who work in the film industry. When the ending/story is given away, fewer people attend the film and it hurts the profits, meaning the studios can't afford to hire all the average folks who work on films (from technicians to script readers and costumers, etc). Stallone will be fine!!!

The only thing I was disappointed about was that Duke really only has one speaking line in the entire movie, and that's what we all see in the trailer. Yeah that's why they didn't grant him the license- because even though he passed the tests, they thought it was irresponsible to send him out there to possibly get killed. They didn't say this but I was thinking during the movie that they probably were fighting in Las Vegas to get around the Pennsylvania boxing commission. I assume the Nevada boxing commission was more lenient? Also, you will have plenty of opportunities to ask him when he comes back for RAMBO. How cool is that?

I have been trying to get some friends to go see Balboa with me. They all share the same thoughts: "Rocky's old" "Rocky sucked after 2" "Stallone is washed up" and the like. My only real comeback is, "Its fuckin' Rocky, guys." So far, even that isn't good enough. Sly has a lot riding on this movie.. This is probabably the movie that will either make people take his movies seriously again, or wonder why there is a rocky six. The 20 rounds with sly were the best reading I'd had on AICN in a long time. They actually got me excited to see Balboa, whereas before I was in the "A rocky six? ha" camp. Sly definitely earned a lot of fans with his talkbacks, and at least one more ticket to his latest effort. Mine.

I hesitated to ask Sly my question... until after the movie is out, and I am glad I waited... my question to Sly is: When he was writing it, did he cry when he was writing the scenes. I cried thinking if -God Forbidden anytime soon- my wife passed away, I would most likely be broken up as much, if not more, as it showed on screen... I can't imagine writing the scenes without shedding a tear...

That sounds snotty but I don't know people who would really be embarassed to see a movie. I only know people who are too lazy to go to the theater. Short of drugging and kidnapping them I don't think I can get them to go. I've already tried begging. But in the last few days I've been working the movie into whatever conversations I've had. I tried to convince the page at the library yesterday. LOL. And just from being on other movie message boards, I think it's catching on. Also, I was watching FOX News this morning and they were calling the stocks that they think will make a comeback 'Rocky stocks'. And the reporter chick was doing the 'Gonna Fly Now' noises we all do. So I'm thinking it'll be the cool movie to go see soon. I still don't understand the lack of old folks when I went because I go early and I'm usually the only one without grey hair. Has there been any advertising on TCM? I guess I can head over to their boards. I'll keep plugging it wherever I can think of but we've got to work on Oscar buzz, imo. Make quotes from the movie your sigs on other boards and avatars and all that stuff.

Oh my gosh, I literally just got back from my second viewing and I was about to make a post about the great reception it got when I read that Mr. Stallone had responded to one of my comments. Thank you so much for reading and everyone else, SPREAD THE WORD! On those message boards I was going to, I literally saw half a dozen posters (that have nothing to do with aintitcool.com) trying to convince othersto give the movie a chance. I honestly have never seen something like this before, and I think part of it is because there is such a reverence to the character. Rocky Balboa is a cultural icon, and I think one of the problems this movie has to overcome is the fear that it just MIGHT dishonor the him in some way. Let's help set the record straight that this is one of the most wonderful movies of the year. SPREAD THE WORD!
