Actually, I found "Half-Blood Prince" to be the weakest Potter novel since "Chamber of Secrets." Still a good read, mind you, but not nearly as well put together as the "POA"-"GOF"-"OOTP" trifecta.

Pardon me for spreading some Harry Potter hatred on this fine winter morning, but the ahrdcore Harry Potter fans I have encountered at the movie theater the past few movies have led me to such a path. Grown adults (with no children around them) dressing as wizards and witches make me weep for humanity as a whole. Hopefully in the 7th book, a Neutron bomb goes off at Hogwarts, vaporizing everyone, so there will be hope that one day grown men and women won't have an excuse to stand in line at the AMC making such embarassing scenes of themselves.

So many people are going to be SOOOOOO pissed off when this series ends. I think the anger at there being no more Harry Potter will overshadow what J.K. Rowling HAS written in 'the Deathly Hallows'. Nothing short of fucking PERFECTION will please people, and even then that wouldn't please everyone. There were so many whiners after Half-Blood Prince, everyone complaining about little things that JK hasn't explained, but they still cling onto some hope because there's one more book. Well here's a fucking newsflash for you all, she isn't going to answer every last thing in the final book, and she isn't going to come to your house and felate you, you are JUST GOING TO HAVE TO ACCEPT THAT. You can guarantee debates will rage for years and years about the series and the whining for further installments. Maybe eventually it will pass, but at first it's going to be crazy. By the way, 'Deathly Hallows' is pretty ominous, and is suggesting death and darkness, but maybe in the end that won't be the case. I mean, what does the title 'Goblet of Fire' conjure up in your head? You'd never think that it was just something to choose the champions for the Tournament.

Rowling is raffling off the rights for future Harry Potter novels to the highest bidder, and there are already a bunch of new titles in the works by various unpublished authors, Dean R. Koontz. For example: Harry Potter and the Meat Packers Union. Harry Potter and the Ill-fitting Bloody Glove. Harry Potter and the Senate Sub-committee. Harry Potter and the League of Angry Lesbians. Harry Potter and the Infinite Wheel of Cheese. Harry Potter and the Potentate of Hot-n-Tots. Harry Potter and the Inifinte Series of Increasing Moronic and Irritating Puns. Harry Potter and the Big, Hairy Monster. Harry Potter and Hermione's Secret Garden. Harry Potter and the Society of Ethnically Diverse Wizards. Harry Potter and the Magical Mystery Tour. Harry Potter and the Attack of the Fabulous Cross-Dressing Dance Troupe. Harry Potter and Muggle Pie. Harry Potter and the Church of the Poisoned Mind. Harry Potter and the Oppressive Bureaucracy. Harry Potter and the Expired Script Options. Harry Potter and the Theft of the Galleys (where the theif is caught trying to sell the galleys on eBay--like magic!). And then, they reboot the series with: Harry Potter Returns: The Final Countdown to the Silver Surfer, where Harry Potter comes back from wizarding to become a professional boxer.

Dec 21st, 2006

I think my hatred of this series all boils down to the fact that it posits that all wizards ride around on brooms. It is the most awkward, stupid thing in the books. Brooms in legend were ridden by demented, child-eating baba Yaga type witches and nobody else, and certainly not by male wizards. Seriously, the kid wizard thing had already been done about a dozen times, and better in literature, before the first HP book with its hideous jacket design even came out.

In a few years, say 16... there will be a new book where harry, now old and out of magic will be approached with the news that a new computer simulation has him as a winner of a magic duel against a new foe, even more formidable than he-who-must-not-be-named. In light of this Harry decides to retake his magic road to prove to himself that he is still a wonderful wizard. At the same time we'll learn that the Ministry of Magic is being attacked from the inside. This nobody is elected as a new Minister of Magic and will try to create an empire. But he will need help. he will need the help of somebody who is very strong in magic, well Harry of course. He'll get close to Harry, he'll feed him lies and tell him that he's seen the future and he's seen Harry wife (now pregnant with wizard twins) will die unless he can do something about it. This will take Harry to a feud with his best friend Ron, Who's now an Auror and will battle Harry in the most amazing wizard duel ever written. The Battle will end with Ron as a winner and Harry as a loser with horrible scars all over. Then he'll be put in a life-sustaining suit and he'll learn that his wife has died while giving birth. The Book will end with harry braking down, falling on his knees and yelling "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOO" This is all true, all takes from behind the wall at Rowling's own site. All true I tells ya!

by Freakemovie
Dec 21st, 2006
11:41:13 PM
I'm a big fan of the series, and it was still a pretty darn great book. But there was a whole lotta nothing that happened for pretty much the entire middle of the book: Voldemort's backstory got told, but there was a lot of filler surrounding it. On the bright side, we got the awesomely entertaining scenes with the Luck Potion, finally the Harry/Ginny coupling, and the great climax. Still, I thought the series reached a major high point with the classic Order of the Phoenix. I have high hopes for Deathly Hallows, and I think once we stir the name around for a while it will sit well. (I always thought Goblet of Fire was the worst title, anyway.)
HBP was not weak
by The Funketeer
Dec 21st, 2006
11:55:55 PM
Sure it was mostly set up for the final book but I'd say some pretty big events took place namely the actions of Malfoy Jr. and Snape and the fate of Dumbledore. Order of the Phoenix is my favorite as well thought it certianly has its faults. Waaaaay too much time was spent on Harry moping around feeling sorry for himself and hating Dumbledore who was acting pecuiliarly out of character. But when they finally throw down with the death eaters at the end of the book, it redeemed itself tenfold.

Godzillasushi Re: HP Deaths so far
by darquelyte
Dec 22nd, 2006
06:59:36 AM
In Goblet of Fire, Cedric died. In Order of the Phoenix, Sirius Black died. In Half Blood Prince, Dumbledore died. (Many still think that he knew Snape would have to kill him in order to totally gain Voldy's trust...so he made prior arrangements to come back some how.) In Deathly Hallows, JK has said that 2 major characters will die. Most people are guessing Voldemort and Harry, or Voldy and Snape. Some people have even specualted that it's going to be all out war since Dumbledore died, and a WHOLE LOT of minor characters will bite it, like Draco's dad, maybe Draco, Ron's dad, at least one of the Dursleys, and so on.

Godzilla Sushi, I agree, Harry should be put into more sexually explicit situations, positions, quandaries...much like the whole "massage parlor" incident of 1975...YEAH BABY!!! Anyway, what is the verdict on the whole Gojira/Gamera debacle?

Or "to sanctify", when used as a verb. If the title were referring to a place, the word would be "Hollows".
Harry does NOT have to die...there is another way...

I've long believed that while it is possible that Harry may have to die to finish off voldemort, I think there is another way. I think that it will involve Harry having to rid himself of the Horcrux, but in so doing he will also rid himself of all magic making him a muggle. At that point voldemort will regain his full strength but without a Horcrux he can then be killed once and for all. This alternative allows the ending of the books to leave us with a poingant life lesson as Harry has to leave his childhood world of magic and integrate into the world of muggles and normalcy, imparting the wisdom that as childhood ends, we must let go of our illusions and embrace reality.

I interpret "deathly hallows" to mean to be made holy (or revered, or simply honoured) thru death. That sounds pretty final and is a fitting title to end the series. ** Predictions: Ron and Hermione spend some quality alone time together, Harry is not around for the final chapter, but Snape is.

I've been saying that all along. I forget how many are unaccounted for. One was in the Order of the Phoenix HQ and was most likely stolen. That still leaves a couple more if Harry is indeed the final Horclux. My wife thinks the book will end with Harry eventually replacing Dumbledore as headmaster of Hogwarts. She also thinks Hermione will eventually become Minister of Magic. All I know is Neville will be kicking some ass in the last book.

that she will kill Harry out of sheer paranoia. Reason being that she's so afraid someone will write a sequel after she's gone. What she does not seem to realize is that "Harry Potter Dead" is about as final as "Star Trek Dead." If Harry lives to the conclusion of this book, I'll be surprised. Seems to me she has not a care for the millions of kids that will be crushed if she does it. For the richest woman in the world, she seems very bitter, and more than a little bit the man-hater. He ex did her the biggest favor in history by walking out, leaving her little choice but to write for hours in the coffee shop.

need to suck it up. Harry Potter is a mass market multi media product - but it's a story first. The only obligation an authour has is to an honest telling.

What are you her biographer? Lighten up a bit. Besides, it's Daniel Radcliffe that made the comments that caused the rampant speculation of Harry's death. Whatever Rowling does, I have no doubt she'll stick true to her story.

It's the ridiculous argument about which of Rowling's titles are the "best". Deathly Hallows slips off the tongue way better than Half-Blood Prince! No way, Order of the Phoenix is way cooler sounding than Deathly Hallows! Blah wah beh blah bwah. I admit I was susceptible to it myself in my first post on here when I said "Goblet of Fire" was clunky, but reading back some of these is just hilarious. They're friggin titles and we feel the need to weigh in on our scientific reasons why one sounds cooler than another. (And while I'm on the topic, the best "fake humorous title" for a HP book, in my opinion, is "Harry Potter and the Mysterious Wad of Tissues".)

the spooky door to no where(OOTP) is connected to the Deathly Hallows? Definitely agree with those that think Harry is a horcrux and that he will need to die in order for LV to be killed. Then Snape can step in and do the job he promised Dumbledore he would do. BTW I read somewhere that we would learn a lot more about Dumbledore in the next book. In the first book it mentioned that he helped bring down an evil wizard Grindewald(sp). Wonder if he was actually a spy like Snape and that is why he trusts him so much. Can't wait to read it! Oh, and I do not dress up in wizards robes etc to go to the movies. I am way to cool for that. I wear my Slytherin T from Hot Topic.

Personally wasn't greatly impressed with the title. Thinks the books are pretty fun, but very lightweight (in nearly every sense except the literal one...). Many other superior books and authors deserve the recognition and following that Potter has now. But then, that's just my opinion. At least she's got kids reading again, and reading fantasy (think the LOTR films helped there too). In 10-15 years time, when these readers are all grown up, we should get a new generation of decent fantasy work again. That, or more lamentable rip-off. *cough* Eragon *cough*. What?! I didn't say anything...

...I wonder what other people have been thinking about the hints she's given us for this book? Like one of the DA becoming a teacher, but not necessarily one you would expect. I'd say Hermione is the one you'd expect, and perhaps Neville is therefore destined to teach his beloved Herbology...but then, I've always liked the idea of Neville dying. You know, his destiny was nearly Harry's, he started off weak but his spirit and courage have helped him become a decent enough wizard - he has tragic hero written all over him. Was trying to work out how he could die instead of Harry, seeing as how their births were both relevant to the prophesy (and I also like the idea of Harry being the final Horcrux, but I'm not yet convinced he will die). On a different note, I think it's obvious that Snape is a good guy, killed Dumbledore because the old bumblebee told him too, and will be a great help in the war. Not sure if he will die or not. Can see it going either way (revealing his true nature to Harry as he lies dying, probably after saving him by giving his own life; his true nature being revealed at the last moment, saving the day, and he lives on). Whatever.
