Stallone has officially become one of my favorite movie stars due to these talkbacks. He comes across as a very intelligent, very down to earth, and humorous individual who possesses more then his fair share of guts. No wonder he's a star.

My dad is an action/violence/Bronson fan, for for some reason when we were in the theater, he cried at the most random scene. No one would guess which one. It's right after when Rocky beat Drago and he's in the shower and he's like...."UH! UH! UH CAN'T STOP MY HANDS FROM SHAKIN!!".....LOL.....I look at my dad and he's all teary which he never gets and I'm like "huuuuuuuuuuuh????" How random! I just remembered that.

The best character (non-Rocky) is obviously Adrian. She is the perfect support to the Rocky character. Even though she went kind of crazy after Rocky IV, that's okay. The Adrian of Rocky I-IV was just magic. The WORST Rocky character imo is George Washington Duke. What a fool. Loud and obnoxious and no prescence. Might as well have cast Chris Tucker, at least he would have made me laugh. Union Cane was also a fool...(scratchy voice) "Aye wanna take what chu GOT!!"......uh, just leave. Please.

I loved Butkus too, from a "watching on tv" standpoint. I used to have a big dog like Butkus. People usually trained their dogs to stay down but I loved it when mine jumped all over me. I remember I lost my dog the same week my classmate lost his. So depressed. He eventually got another dog of the exact same breed as before and gave it the same name ("Caesar II" lol)....but mine was irreplaceable. I wonder if Sly got the exact same dog breed again. I have a picture of him kissing Butkus.

why did he have a pink microphone? did he always carry it around with him? it seemed to be wireless, because when he showed up at the airplane hangar he was toting it with him with Union Cane in tow...either way, i always get a chuckle out of a few things from Rocky V: Tommy Morrison's acting, and GW Duke's pink microphone. of course, Rocky V had one of the best "chill scenes" in the whole series: when Rocky is just about down for the count in the street fight, but then he has his flashback of Mickey. the flashback of Mickey is fantastic, and easily the best thing in the movie, culminating in the, "GET UP! 'Cause Mickey loves ya." line, which always gives me chills. oh, and GibsonUSA, i'll put Mickey ahead of Adrian on the list of best characters.

Both Mickey and Adrian are key components to the first Rocky. When we first meet them they, to put it in Rocky's words, "had a little something stuck in the basement." They had this thing, whatever, nagging at them, and no signs of relief. In essence, Rocky's once in a lifetime shot saved both these guys too, to a degree. But I found Adrian's transformation more magical. Mickey became a mentor to Rocky...Adrian went from this forgotten soul and just came out of her shell, blossomed...it was like a realization, it was great.

better than some people they ACTUALLY know? I have close friends that aren't this open or so devoid of ego that they never let it get in the way of brutal objectivity and honesty. Stallone should write a fucking self-help book or one of those books that tells you how to be a better person. Instead of The Examined Life or The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, it's The Sly Way... or something... haha. Blows me away that he specifically mentiond that Anthony Kiedis question in the opening.

He did his own stunts in the original "Time Machine." Watch it again and you'll see what I mean. The fight in "Darker Than Amber" with William Smith got out of hand they actually went at it for real. Taylor got his nose broken, but Smith got the worst end of it with three broken ribs. Plus, any guy that puts on metal cleats attached to battery cables and tap dance on a metal bar sending a shower of sparks everywhere in "Welcome To Whoop Whoop" rates number one anytime in my book!

I was wondering if this was an Alice Cooper reference and if you had a friendship with Alice Cooper? Also was wondering how you got on with Antonio on Assasins (my favorite film of yours other than Copland) and Rob Schneider and if freindship was maintained beyond the filmaking process. I just watched Rocky IV last night and I noticed something that threw me off a little. Yes, I know I'm probably reading too deeply into things and should just accept the mantra of artistic license but there was one part of the movie that I just couldn't overlook. During the scene where Drago is beating the ever living shit out of Apollo Creed, the ref tries to step in and break it up but Drago tosses the ref backwards and continues to beat Apollo to death, literally. If this happened in real life, a fighter beating his opponent to death after the ref tried to intervene, wouldn't or couldn't the fighter be charged with manslaughter? If anyone can explain this to me I would greatly appreciate it.

Sly - if you read this - My favorite movie of yours is FIST. I want to pose some questions since your great career is so much more than the focus on Rocky and Rambo (As much as i love them ). Paradise Alley, COp LAnd, Night-Hawks and FIST is some of your best work and may i say under-rated work. My favorite movie of yours is Fist. Can i ask a few questions? Your brilliant acting, your amazing ballsy decision to film this after Rocky. It was such a sweeping EPIC and worked on so many levels. And all filmed in Dubuque Iowa!! My questions - Did you have artistic differences with Norman Jewison over the Johnny Kovac character and the direction of the character? Namely your view that he acted immorally only because he had to go to the Mafia to do what was "good For the guys". Even though as Abe said "JUke-Boxes and kick-backs weren't good for the guys". Your scenes with Tony LoBianco were outstanding - Did you enjoy working with him and the late David Huffman? Do you know any good Rod Steiger stories ?? You later worked with him on of course - THe Specialist. I mean to be that. Also wasn't the cinematgrapher the same guy Kovick who did "On the Waterfront" with Brando/Steiger. ALso - my favorite actor in both Fist - Paradise Alley was Michael COnway? YOu had great Chemistry with him - any great stories there? Also - I loved Frank McRae (Glory in Paradise Alley) - The endrearing suicide scene was brilliant. COmedic in a sense when he tries to kill himself and fails - but touching - when he lost to Kid Salami and had nothing left to live for. Brilliant - You kind of use that emotion 30 years later with Rocky when he loses Adrian and his sense of lost hope similiar a bit to Old Glory. THanks for the years and the magic....FIST Rules!!

You and me both lol.Prince Naseem was fed fighters like Mickey fed Rocky weaker fighters in Rocky III until he had to face his first Real Mexican fighter and got shown up for what he was,and he believed his own hype which didn't help,unlike Rocky who was deceived for his own good(my glasses are rose tinted =).Rocky had Apollo Creed to help,Nas had Chris Eubank lol.The 2 parts of that fight I enjoyed was when Hamed put his gloves down and Barrera just waited(stuck to the gameplan rather than be lead astray) and when he gave his best shot and Barrera just shrugged it off,awesome.Mexican fighters are not to be messed with,BTW no rematch,nuff said..........The thing was PPV money was a new source of revenue in Britain at the time and enough money was being made so questions about his abillity were not asked too loudly (they were asked though) until he had beaten a fair few fighters and had nowhere else to go,all I can say is the W.B.O. titles have a lot to answer for =>.Theres only 1 world,there should only be 1 World Champion.IMO the W.B.C. title is the real belt.When good old Frank Bruno won the title,that was a Rocky moment(we all foresaw the future but we loved him enough to enjoy the momment),I don't know if I will feel the same way If Audely Harrison ever gets the belt(Hey stop sniggering at the back,oh ok snigger away,but it's a funny old game you never know =>).Nice 1 Yack I needed that.I hope somebody has asked what music Mr Stallone listens to in the gym,Flying high,Wu Tang,Aphex,Dopplereffekt,DMX and Hardcore Jungle (1990-1994 Vintage)works for me,who wants a mixCD,Sly anyone,good Xmas gift.Has Mr Stallone played Metal Gear 3??.Ask Vern's Question Harry.Phew big rinse....Looking forward to tomorrow..........

Yeah that guy was a first class prick. One of the biggest, to the core a-holes I've ever seen in any sport. Unfortunately, mental and emotional maturity have no relevance to boxing success. However, they are relevant to being successful as a good person. Clearly he was something of a boxer but just as clearly, he was nothing as a man. Gotta feel sorry for losers like that.

true story for those of you folks who remember the early 80's. Sly started "Eye of the Tiger" management or something and actually managed former JR Welterweight Fighter Aaron Pryor. FOr those who remember - Pryor destroyed Arguello in Nov 82 in Miami probably as a result of illegal stimulants in his water bottle. Anyway, long story - short. Stallone tried to manage Pryor and it was not a match made in heaven. Pryor was high on Cocaine and heavily loaded with domestic problems (His wife actually put a cap in his ass while he was champion). Stallone also forged some kind of advisory service with Ray Mancini that also didn't work out. The Hollywood sharks and charltans are probably nothing compared to the hellish back-stabbers in boxing management. What have loved to see Stallone and Pryor in the same room. Pure TNT and adrenaline.

I think my facts and opinions here are true. Cooney-Holmes was June 11, 1982 and Rocky III opened in May 1982. Crazy time in our nation. A period in which we did have a white hope that was fueled a lot by Rocky III and some of the poltiics that was going in this country around race. By 1982, Young Gerry Cooney was a white contender of Irish and Italian blood and was beloved by the press and a lot of white folks across the land. Gerry Cooney fought Holmes at the time and it paralled Rocky a bit. Albeit - Gerry had a high Irish falsetto voice but he had the hair and the left hook - Just thinks weeks before the fight - Rocky beat up Clubber Lang and as talked about by Murphy sketch - race relations were a bit tense (This was pre-Russian Heavyweights). And the American Public fueled a bit by Rocky III were clamoring for a white hope and victory to match rocky's win against Clubber. Cooney-Holmes as a result of Rocky III was turned into a racial fight. and there were some nasty over-tones of race. That folks forget. In fact, this is true - Holmes was introduced first and Cooney was introduced last during the fight (Normally - the Champion has that honor). Reagan actually had a phone - built into Cooney's dressing room and plannned on congratulating him when he won. No phone was installed into Larry's dressing room. The fact that Cooney was given as much as Holmes was also issue. Cooney was actually told by his handlers (hard to believe but true) when he was getting rocked by Holmes during the fight. "Win it for America, Gerry"....Kind of sad, and a bit cruel. As if Gerry had to win the fight for white people and for America. The poor kid anyway, fight was decent. Holmes won convincingly and Cooney was gracious in defeat. And Holmes actually showed class in his victory (Although when he lost - he would disparage Rocky marciano in that he couldn't carry larry's jock-strap). Well, we have all grown since 1982 and we all learned to laugh with Eddie Murphy's italian skit of taking on the brothers. And we all recovered from that racial divide so that while it's not perfect - i think this country has come a long way since 1982 in terms of race and getting along. So much so - that i think the "Steps" character in Rocky Balboa may be a way to help us heal race relations for that period. I mean the duke rape case proves that he all need to wipe out the divides and the crap that divides us .

Took a break from writing this paper I'm doing and watched it again. When the movie started and Rambo was walking down the street I thought of rambo cricket and when the cop came out of the station I thought of the frog. Then they got into the car together. :).....Well yeah, this is my favorite Rambo movie by far, so far. I think part of the reason I like it more is because of it's intimate setting. The whole movie essentally takes place in this small, "boring" town. The sequels became so huge, overblown, and bloated (though I liked the second one). I like the more simple approach of the first one, just Rambo being chased by a bunch of cops in the woods....I know the ending is supposed to be serious but when I was a kid I cracked up so hard at the end, when Rambo broke down and was rambling on while crying lol...."An ren we gonna go..an..57 Camaro..an..Las Regas!...an...where's your leg?? I cant find your leg!!"...sorry, i was a kid lol.

When he came down from the rafters in that gaudy, sparkling, celestial chariot thingy to his "theme" song, and Barrera made his unpretentious entrance I immediately thought of the first Rocky film when Balboa entered with his meat robe and Creed on his Bicentennial Potomac float. I will forever love Barrera for beating the shit out of that little arrogant dickhole and making him his bitch. My favorite moment is when Barrera really clocked Naseem for the first time and you could clearly see how Naseem's sneer began to falter to be replaced with ill-concealed fear. Beautiful.

"LUTHOR" - Can you picture Stallone screaming that primarily as he trucks through the Philly streets.. Burt Young would have played Mr. Perry White and Talia Shire was up for the Lois Lane role. Being a long time martial artist and amateur fighter, I've always enjoyed Dolph Lundgren, simply for the fact that he seems like one of the few film martial artists from the 80s and 90s MA genre films who didn't need to 'brag'. After noting you listed him as having the most boxing skill out of some of the other Rocky co-stars, do you have any good stories regarding Mr. Lundgren? Did you two get along well? Okay, did I miss the huge Dolph martial art film that came out in the 80s/90s? Cause as far as martial arts go, he does not rank in my mind as anything close to it. Sure he is big and can fight but he is no martial artist.

great follow-up questions guys. and cool if folks did ask a fist question about that movie. Dubuque, Iowa is very pretty and i really enjoyed its 1930's look. No, i am not from Dubuque but i wish i did. I Agree that Jon Cena is weak. Great boxing questions and great observations on Prince Hamed, a real over-hyped and punk if there ever was one. He reminds me of the class-less and big mouthed Zab Judah, who i loved seeing get punked and beaten up.

This blows my mind but its true. Eddie Murphy and Sly Stallone were actually considered for the role played by Catherine Hicks in Star Trek IV. They would be the current day contact for the Star Trek crew in hunting for the whales. Can you imagine Stallone playing comedy riffs with Shatner and Nimoy? Yo, Spock!! How about Stallone near the Captain's chair on the Enterprise? The little comedic undertones with Shatner on talking about LDS (LSD)- Stallone uses his fists and his fighting ability to help the crew capture the hump-back whales. "Beam me up, yo!" "Yo, Spock, this whale is like mentally irregular, you know?" The powers that be at Paramount wanted either Murphy or stallone to guarantee a high gross for the 4th film. Maybe - the Stallion could have follow-up Star Trek IV with Godfather III and a role in China-town II. Loved to have seen Stallone on the deck of the enteprise throwing punches and utilizing the leg sweep, and headlock with Shatner and Nimoy...

Only this time - he gets his butt kicked by Rambo and his merceneries for his low intelligence comment about our service men and women. I'd love to see this bony punk bureaucrat get taken down by Rambo and his very sharp bowie knife. As Rambo holds the knife to John Kerry's quivering neck, we could listen to Johnny Rambo's long speech on how Kerry betrayed the boys he left behind in early 70's. Kerry could try to back-track and flip-flop as he begs for his life pleadingly. After Rambo runs through Kerry - he drop kicks Hillary Clinton in the stomach but she proves to be one of his toughest foes as she delivers some of the strongest leg sweeps every delivered on film.

My favorite sketch was the one where you're the oddball employee from the Orange Julius store. Your characterization there was so randomly weird, I loved it. Man - it was the director of the commercial in Rocky II...When Rocky was selling the cologne and he gave him all kids of crap. "This man can't read".... The director of the commercial would later re-vive his career on Knots Landing but i wanted Rocky to take his head off. If we had more time - Rocky should have beat him silly

I can't wait anymore. Have you not taken more smaller roles in smaller movies by choice? Not offered? Would you? I love what you did in Copland and I would enjoy more ensemble character work from you. Also, voice work. I love Antz, but you're basically you in that. Have you thought about doing more voicework?
