"I think it was in 1994; I was in the Righa Royal hotel in New York. It was July 5, and I was looking out of my room and I could see the Zigfield Theatre. The line came out of the theatre, went around, all the way around the block, all the way around another block, came back, and then went across the street. And it was for Independence Day." Will, 'Independence Day' came out in 1996.

Wow -what a great read. I wish more stars had these kind of epiphanies. He really had deep, real, honest answers and not "Hollywood" answers. Thanks again for this post, even if his response to your "I Am Legend" question seemed a bit rushed and a little cheesy.

...they are a bunch of retarded robots, not because of little Smith's performance was really the best since Tatum O'Neal. Sorry, Will, but the applause was not for your child, but for you. If the child was not yours, he would not be on that stage. Good luck with "his" career. Can't wait to hear clips of such interviews on the Stern show. They love to play clips of actors yammering on about how so-and-so is the greatest actor ever, blah, blah, blah.

I AM LEGEND is GOING TO SUCK. It has to. You don't turn a character driven pieces like Matheson's I AM LEGEND into an action movie. You just don't. A quiet thriller maybe, but not an action movie. And you KNOW they'll kill the ending, thus completely negating the whole reason for the title of what is, IMHO, one of the greatest horror novels of our time. --G

I doubt it, but I'm hoping that 'they' don't turn it into a bullshit Fresh Prince jiggy-fest. Needs to be darker than Omega Man, edgier survival horror with more emphasis on Neville's struggle with solitude and paranoia (as well as the anticiated Smith armed up to the teeth driving around in a pimped up ride wasting vampires!)

Capone, thanks for popping that final question. Ever since I read the current shooting draft for the flick my faith in the production was definitely restored. Granted it makes me vomit slightly in my mouth to believe Akiva Goldsman's name is on it but it works and is fun nonetheless. Remember the loneliness and dread that had been established in 28 Days Later, well at least the first portion of that film? It's here and the script HAS NOT been tampered with to play to Smith. He is right stating you should be looking forward to it. Being a fan of the original story, I understand you cannot ever truly be pleased with Hollywood's liberties at adapting literary properties but you should be appreciative to the fact that if the film is successful, at the very least more people who were not inclined to read it from the get go will stumble upon it and fall in love with it as much as you did.

It’s no surprise that he a child could see how bad his acting is. Will believes too much in his own hype. Just reading his answers to the questions you can tell how full of himself he is. “But at the same time, I felt the truth and the ceiling blew out on how big I could actually be.”

Judging from his post and that he spelled "favorite" with a u, that he's a limey. He's right, there are places other than America that this story can happen, like the UK. However, in this country we'd actually be happy for him and not have the British attitude of knocking success.

Best line ever. I was in fact one of those people who waited in line two full years for ID4, and I can't say it was worth it. Will sounds incredibly cocky, but at the same time like a genuinely decent guy. Which is weird, because that's essentially who he plays in the movies.

He’s been in some great popcorn flicks and his head is still screwed on right – that’s saying something. A “Star Wars” fan ta boot? Nice. I hope that, “Pursuit of Happyness” earns him another nod from the Academy. Lookin’ forward to “I Am Legend” too. Good stuff, Capone – thanks.

He's not a great actor

Dec 15th, 2006

In general, there's no depth/substance in his performance. He was ok in Ali but I wouldn't call it a first rate performance. And in his interviews, he's a bit over the top and blows too much hype which comes across as phony and can be quite irritating. But he seems like a nice enough guy and I can respect that he's at least challenging himself with different roles.

Wow, one little comment turned into a whole thing. FYI, the Irish are a HUGE part of America. A lot of my heroes are Gaelic: John Ford, JFK, James Cagney, John Wayne, Gregory Peck, John Huston, Gene Kelly, Conan O'Brien, Dusty Springfield, and from '83-'92, U2. To quote Bill Murray from STRIPES, Americans are mutts and underdogs. I don't care how powerful as a country we might seem to the rest of the world, we'll always see ourselves that way.
Oh, I forgot to add Stephen Colbert

He is a politician and i don't think a great actor. His big break was Six Degrees of Separation and he sort of disgraced the profression by punking out on the love scene with a man (his character was gay). So - i don't really think Smith is a talented actor. I will tell you he is amiable and a great booster and salesman for his films. But - he is no artist and no great actor. He's sort of a punk - if he pulled strings to get that role in his first movie - and then backed off on the love scene.

I've never seen Will Smith in anything good and never will cos he's a crap actor. I Am Legend is a classic story written by a white for whites. If there are any good black writers out there then may I suggest you create your own mythos and characters and stop plagiarizing. This isn't a black vs white rant, just a creative one!!

hello there, i just wanted to apologise for my ridiculously over -the- top reaction. I sincerely do not wish my immature comments on anyone. As far as your comments regarding the IRA are concerned, all i can say is i have always thought their methods were disgraceful and have always held the belief that they are scum and have ruined many an innocent life. Northern ireland has nothing to do with me and honestly couldn't care less whether it be governed by the british or irish. I live in the south and have only ever visited once and found it a forgettable experience. I don't like the stereotypical, cliched views other countries have of the irish, but am not too bothered at the same time. Again, sorry for my outburst, i do feel ashamed, have to sort the old temper out.
