This one hits hard. Real hard. Kind of at a loss right now. Biting back some tears at work. My experience of Boyle parallels Mori's almost to the letter and knowing that I'll never see him in another performance is just...well...crap. How did he pass? Was it expected? He can't have been all that old. Mid sixties, perhaps? Wow. Talk about a gut punch. You will definitely be missed, Peter.

Just look at that filmography! Even so-so movies were elevated because of his outstanding performance(s). My favorite role of his (besides The Monster, naturally) is as a cabbie in Taxi Driver - giving Travis Bickle sage advice. I told my wife when I heard about this earlier and she was devastated - she absolutely loved him on "Raymond." So many greats leaving us, so few left to rise to their greatness.

He did not deserve an Emmy for Raymond like a lot of people say. He played a very one note character. He did it well, but the fault was in the character not him, he's just yell some insult to Marie, say "Holy crap", be crude, or make some derogatory comment. It may have been fun, but it was hardly ground breaking or Emmy-worthy. He had some strong episodes sure, but that doesn't change the average. I don't want to seem like an asshole here, and only be putting him down, because he was good, and his roles in Young Frankenstein and Taxi Driver were great stuff, but Frank Barone was over rated is all.

I recall on the DVD of Young Frankenstein, Gene Wilder talked about how the Puttin' on the Ritz scene was his idea and Mel Brooks didn't want to do it because he thought it was too absurd. But Wilder kept nagging at him until he agreed to film it. The end result is one of the funniest scenes in movie history, and a lot of that comes from Peter Boyle. And that's not including the scene with Gene Hackman. He was a brilliant actor who always made any movie he was in better. God bless you, Mr. Boyle, and may you find peace and happiness on the other side.

You are missed by your fans already. Although a fan of his entire body of work, he will always be Frankenstein's monster to me. Much like Mori, I had a formative comic experience with my father at Young Frankenstein. My condolences to the Boyle family. We have lost a man we loved as a great talent, but they have lost a father and a husband. We all loved Peter because we all knew Peter or at least bits of him in the people around us every day. He was that well grounded curmudgeon uncle. He was the grandpa who said strange and funny things at just the right (or wrong) time. He was the kind of guy who could make you laugh, but you'd want catching your back if trouble started. In Peter Boyle's passing, our loss is God's gain. Groucho and Richard won't be going on stage alone tonight nor will they be getting all the laughs. Rest in peace, friend, you are missed.

In all the interviews I saw him in, he seemed like such a nice guy. I think he deserved his Emmy's for ELR, it was a comedy show, and he was very funny, and as Mori said, he also would show a softer side on occasion. The last two or three seasons weren't as good, but it was a pretty good show for awhile there, mostly because of Peter Boyle and Ray's brother, they were the best part of the show. I also thought he was great in Monster's Ball, that scene with Halle Berry was chilling.

He was absolutely wonderful in "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose". I didn't know he had won the Emmy for it, though, until today. He played him with a wonderful spirit and soul, and it's just unfortunate that he's gone now. However, one of my favorite Clyde Bruckman moments is definitely from the bloopers of "The X-Files" season 3, during "Final Repose" where Mulder, Scully and Bruckman are driving to a potential murder scene. Bruckman says, "Okay, stop. Stop. (Breaks character) I said, 'stop'! I mean, what the fuck is wrong with you?!", and Moose and Squirrel start laughing... All the same, here's to you, Peter Boyle. Say hello to my dog who died on Halloween for me, please...

Peter Boyle almost ran me down in his Volvo station wagon at the corner of 17th St. and 5th Ave. in Manhattan. It must have been around 1995. That aside, "UTTIN AH DA ITZZ!" is one of the 5 or 10 funniest comic lines in the history of cinema. Just about makes me pee myself to this day.

I'm kind of up in the tower, here, and hadn't heard any of that. Last I saw of Boyle (on Raymond, he being the only reason I ever watched the show) he seemed hearty as a horse. And waggy, you're right, Dream Team was pretty awful. But I'll leave it on any time it plays because of Boyle's character. His scene in the Baptist church was fantastic...as was his empathic delivery of the line: "All of god's creatures are beautiful." followed by: "No. Not her." This is hard. I want to spend all day recalling my favorite moments from this guy's career, but it's making me so damned sad.

Man, sad news. I feel empty right now. I remember the first time I saw Young Frankenstein, and what an impression Peter Boyle made on me. I started looking for whatever project he was in. Condolences to his family and friends. I had been a fan since seeing his great work in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN when I was a kid. Drew is right in that he was underused as an actor, but he still managed to maintain a decent career. I was never a particular fan of the RAYMOND sitcom, but I always liked Boyle, and was glad the guy spent the last ten years of his life in a good role on an acclaimed and popular TV show. Boyle was an interesting guy in that he was a Christian Brother for three years, basically a monk, for three years, before leaving that life to eventually become an actor. He was also close friends with John Lennon, with whom he seemed to have shared an interest in spirituality. If there is a great place beyond, I am sure he is there. Rest in peace, Mister Boyle.

The dream team was also my first experience with mr Boyle. I don;t llook back on it as a bad movie by any means, dated yes, but to me it's a comedy classic, although I did watch it at a young age when I though michael keaton was god because he played batman, and it could be the nostalgia of that movie that makes me love it that much more, but I will defend it to anyone who wants to proclaim it a bad film

Almost everything he did was terrific. And while I did enjoy ELR, an awful lot of that was Boyle. I do think he deserved the Emmy. The character being one-note isn't the point (it's a comedy, dammit). The point is what he did with it. His timing, his delivery, his facial expressions...all classic. And like everyone else, I find the Puttin On The Ritz scene absolutely hysterical.

The "Hey Handsome" scene in the dungeon cellar between the Doc and the Creature is a treasure. Multiple Myeloma and a bum ticker - that's not a comfortable end for a man who brought a bunch of joy. This part nearly made the news announcer where I live weep when the episode ended. He described it as one of the most beautifully written things he had ever seen on TV. This was unusual because before this I never saw the guy mention anything about any lead in show before the news. MULDER: Well, I've had dreams in my life where I had a vision and then later on, I've seen that vision in reality and then... and as a psychic, have you ever had prophetic dreams like that? CLYDE BRUCKMAN: I have only one dream. I dream it ever night. You're not one of those people who turns everything into a sexual symbol, are you? MULDER: No, no, I'm not a Freudian, no. CLYDE BRUCKMAN: I'm lying naked in a field of red tulips.(In Bruckman's dream, his body slowly wastes away into nothing. He speaks over it, describing it.)I'm not concerned with where I am or how I got there. I'm at peace and it's then that I realize I'm dead. My body begins to turn a greenish-white with spots of purple. Next, the insects arrive. The inevitable follows, putridity and liquescence. Before I know it, I'm nothing but bones. When I start fading to dust, I lose whatever care I still might have had about where my clothes are and as I begin to feel myself slipping away towards I know not what...(Cut back to Bruckman.)I wake up. Well, good night.

...all of talk radio was on this. They were yapping about his various films but didn't mention why. Or not often enough

Wow. Loved lots of his work. I once worked for a guy by the name of Stanley Dorsky, who was first cousins with Mel Brooks. He was the typical, aged lipsmacking jew who made no qualms about having no use for you, yet would take you under his wing all the same. I eventually made my way into his corner office, where he showed me a slew of oldish photos of him with Mel and Crew, including Boyle, Wilder, Feldman, etc. It resonated so much that I wanted to take a picture of me standing in front of his pictures. There was other memoribilia too. I felt like Sonny Malone in Xanadu.

Damn, Boyle was fantastic. I can't remember anything he was in that I didn't like.

dont forget his role in THE CANDIDATE...XFiles, NYPD BLUE(offed by Enrico Colatoni) and Scooby Doo 2. I think it's a given that only married folks over the age of 30 love RAYMOND. Frank was NOT a one character ala Phoebe on FRIENDS or Carla from CHEERS. We was a typical dad. RIP Mr Boyle...godspeed

that was another big loss in the show biz world. i based one of my popular cartoon charectors on frank barone. peter boyle was great and will be missed. my condolences go out to his friends, family and the entire cast and crew of raymond. his best moment on that show was in the 200th episode and he, ray and robert went to therapy but then when to the track instead and then bonded. it's also ironic because the episode where they drive into the house and then frank says "don't come to my funeral" was on last night when he passed away. godspeed, frank. finally, it's our turn to say "holy crap!" we'll miss you.

Peter, along with Doris Roberts, were the best things about the show. They owned each and every scene. There's a good chance without those two, Ray Romano wouldn't be where he is today.
br>R.I.P. Mr. Boyle, you were a class act, and you'll be missed.

Dream Team was one of my favorites of Boyles, besides Young Frankenstein. He fit perfectly in the role of a lunatic with a delusion of being the self-professed second coming of Christ. Real shame that the last thing I see him on is that jackass Carlos Mencia's show. R.I.P. Pete.

One of the funniest scene of Peter Boyle was in Honeymoon in Vegas, as Chief Orman, that scene where he was singing Happy Talk was the best. Rest in Peace Mr. Boyle

Cos hollywood celebrities always die in three's for some reason. Anyways, Peter Boyle was a fantastic actor. I especially liked his part of Wizard in Taxi Driver. RIP

This has hit really hard - I loved Peter Boyle, he was a high point in almost everything that he did. The sequence where he joins in 'Hit the Road Jack' in Dream Team is one of the milk from nose funniest moments in film history - but he was the BEST thing in 'The Shadow' - man the list is huge. Bye Mr Boyle

Peter Boyle was the best part of that classic movie "The Dream Team". His character with a messiah complex had me in absolute stitches. Farewell Peter Boyle.

Personally I see no reason why The Dream Team gets a bad rap at all. It's got a million quotable lines, mostly by Boyle. Jack: Stop! Who dares to tow the van of the living Christ? Driver: The city of New York, Tarzan! $50 for the violation, $75 for the tow and $20 a day for storage. Jack: [Skyward] Father, forgive us for we have sinned! We parked our car in a forbidden zone!

I never thought about how deeply people you don't even know can affect your life. Young Frankenstein was one of the reasons I decided to pursue life in the entertainment industry. I thought if I could make someone laugh like the laughs that film gave me, I would have accomplished something. Although I miss Marty, madeline, and now Peter, I hope they're having a heck of a party right now. God Bless!

So many films, so many fine performances. He even managed to add a touch of class to stuff like the Scooby Doo movie. DREAM TEAM and TAXI DRIVER are my earliest memories of seeing his work - and I kept an eye out for anything he has been in since. A gifted actor - and by all accounts a wonderful man too. RIP.

in that. Young Frankenstein was pure comic genius I laugh every time I see it. Especially when the Peter Boyle sings Puttin on the Ritz and it comes out in horrid shriek. I can't stop laughing just thinking about it. That and Inga says "Yes" the dramatic music rises. "He Was My Boyfriend" And you can't have Everybody Loves Raymon without Frank Barron. I've got to see that X-Flies sounds brilliant.

You forgot to mention Ray Romano. Peter and Doris [sometimes Brad] were the only people that made that show watchable.

That show (aside from Boyle) had the worst collection of voices produced by human beings in the history of entertainment. And don't get me started on the stories. But to the matter at hand, Peter Boyle was a funny guy, and I thank him for many good laughs.

Having been taught by the Christian brothers in H.S. that really explains a lot though! he will be sorely missed. I truly great turn in Young Frankenstein, and a welcome presence on any show he graced. I still remember his X-Files appearance with fondness.
