This movie is going to be great... for any who don't know the plot: Monsters invade a small town and some genius finds out Bruce Campbells nearby and figures he MUST be like Ash from the ED movies, so they get him to come fend off the badguys. Hilarity ensues. Can't wait for this movie. It's seriously gonna be awesome I'd say. Especially with Ted Raimi playing the big baddie!

As a long time fan of The Evil Dead, I am hoping for a very entertaining piece of meta melarkey from this My Name Is Bruce. I notice Danny Hicks is in the picture above (Bobby Jooooooe!) and on IMDB I see Ellen Sandweiss is listed as playing Cheryl. That part in the first Evil Dead, when she's guessing the cards, is one of the first shitmypants moments in films I remember from when I was a kid. I am really, really, really hoping this one turns out well. Don't let us down, Bruce Campbell.

His movies are great fun most of the time, his autobiog was enormously entertaining and his other book, "How To Make Love The Bruce Campbell Way" has the greatest title of any book ever, but isn't this self-deprecating thing going just a bit too far? I find the charm of the whole thing wearing off a bit.

I was cruising the IMDB for information on this My Name Is Bruce, and I saw a listing for Bubba Nosferatu & The Curse Of The She-Vampires, which I think is one of the best titles for a film ever. Apparently, Paul Giamatti will be playing Colonel Tom Parker in this one. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this? That IMDB is an unreliable bugger.

You make a fair point, but I'm assuming he's aiming for self-effacing rather than self-serving. That seems to fit with his sense of humour. That said, I'm hoping they do a Harlem Nights style opening credit sequence - Bruce Campbell presents, a Bruce Campbell production of, a film by Bruce Campbell, MY NAME IS BRUCE!, starring Bruce Campbell.

What is it with geeks and Bruce Campbell? I did enjoy the Evil Dead movies, but they werent exactly the greatest things ever. Honestly as far as horror movies go there are ALOT better. Still there fun because there so damn corny. They are mostly good because of how laughably bad the acting and effects and writing and everything was. Again, the movies are ok-good, I would say they are all about a 7 out of 10, but thats about it. Get off his weewee, the guy really isnt all that.

But why do I sense direct to video / Sci Fi Channel "exclusive premiere?" I don't get it. Evil Dead movies have become huge. Bubba Ho-Tep had a surprisingly successful theatrical run. He's got two well recieved books. Yet the guy still runs around conventions saying "it's sooo hard making movies, nobody wants to give me money!" I'm not being a troll. I swear. I just feel that Bruce -could- pull off a Bubba Ho-Tep style release if he had the patience / desire like Coscarelli did. But he seems happy with crummy Sci Fi channel movies. The guy is capable of so much more badassery. Also, his putting down the audience at Q&A's is really starting to get old. Of all the actors making the convention rounds, Campbell is one of the most disrespectful, saying things like "you're an idiot" and "forget you, next question." He's still better than Karen Black though, at least he didn't show up drunk and flash the audience a beaver. An old, stringy furred beaver no less.

...where Campbell has a decent sized role? Probably either Sundown or Maniac Cop, both pure schlocky b-movie goodness. He was also cheesy fun in Waxwork 2, Escape From L.A. and, of course, Bubbu Ho-Tep.

As far as his best non Evil Dead or Raimi/Cohen related performance goes, probably that guest shot he did on Homicide. He was pretty good in the very much over-rated Running Time too, from what I recall. I would have rated his guest spot on American Gothic here as well, but I just remembered, that was Raimi produced too, so...

Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for campy Bruce Campbell movies, but if a McCain brother is in it then you know that the budget for this film was less than what you would ordinarily spend for a carton of Marlboros. Who are these mysterious McCain brothers you ask? They are WEATHER MEN. That's it, that's all, they do the weather, and sports, and some crappy morning interview show in Oklahoma. That's it. They have got NO acting chops at all. Bruce I want to laugh with ya, but adding the McCains to your picture will have me laughing at ya. More on the McCains.... http://www.mccainbrothers.com/

I just don't get it. And most people don't. Horrible line delivery, acting, etc. It may have been cool tongue in cheek back in the Evil Dead days, but it is OLD. It's fine if YOU enjoy it. I enjoy the work of plenty bad actors I'm sure, but this endless ra ra ra of Bruce Campbell is seriously one of the greatest mysteries known to man. I'm glad it's not on a larger scale. I'm glad the general audience doesn't feel the same way about him as you guys do. Why? Because then he would actually act in somewhat commendable movies, and I'd see more of him. I've seen him in Q/As, seen him on Dinner for Five, etc. and he comes off as a very arrogant and self centered guy. It's cool, I get it Bruce, you're a B-movie guy that's been in a couple of cult movies. Stop pretending you are some God in independant cinema, because that is not the case at all. Heck, even Sam Raimi, your meal ticket, gives you nothing but bit parts in Spider-Man movies. Parts that are a complete distraction from the movie. Annoying. Hey, there's Bruce Campbell. We get it. That schtick (sp?) was old ten years ago. So many more actors deserve these kudos. People like Michael Biehn (who actually has proven talent) or all of the actors in John Carpenter movies, etc. But Campbell? I dont know where my distaste comes from:) I guess I just don't understand the mystery. He's not a good actor. At least, he hasn't proven to be as of yet. There's a hundred actors out there that work in small level movies more deserving of the kudos. It's funny seeing TBers bitch about Transformers, or hell, even movies like Godzilla and what not, and then you turn around and praise Bruce Campbell movies. But hey, to each his own. Enjoy.
You're just a hating little bitch, moto...

Bow fucking down to Evil Dead 2. Why are you here? You don't even deserve Evil Dead 2. You're not fit to speak about, much less think about, Bruce Campbell. Fuck yourself. You're a sorry, retarded asshole. You are not worthy. You just don't get it, and you have no hope to ever discover it. Emoticons are for preteen girls. Go hate somewhere else.

Bruce has ED1 + 2 and nothing else. He is a cult icon, which is fine, but it's a "one-note-joke" kind of thing. Sorry, folks, ED:AoD ain't all that.
Campbell doesn't need anything else...

Yeah sure, Campbell is a bit of an arrogant prick. I mean c'mon, he wrote a book called "Making love, the Bruce Campbell way" and a movie titled "My name is Bruce!". Those are indeed the markings of a slightly arrogant person. But you know what? That's what we like about him. That's what's so fun about the Ash character: he's an idiot. An arrogant selfcentered idiot who can fuck up a cup of coffee. And that's what Bruce Campbell does too. Wether he genuinly is that way or not is besides the point. Sure, he'll never be a Depp or a Cage actor-wise, but as a personality he's a thousand times more fun. You ever heard a dvd commentary track by Johnny Depp? He's fucking boring! Listen to the commentary tracks on all the Evil Dead's by Campbell and you'll shit your pants laughing. I don't care if it's all an act or not. I just think almost everything he does is pretty fucking funny.
Too soon!

It is too soon for the Bruce Campbell backlash. This is the film any fan of Bruce has been waiting for. This is the geek culmination of Mr Campbell's entire career, the pinnacle of Campbellosity, a fantabulous grab bag of Campbellessness. My Name Is Bruce could be the Snakes On A Plane that Snakes On A Plane was too damn chicken to be, although there are, as far as I know, no actual snakes or planes in it. We should be crossing our sweaty little fingers and praying to the Kandarian Gods that this slice of grand cinematic nonsense is THE BEST FILM EVER MADE. Of course, it could also be shit, in which case... fuck Bruce Campbell.
Can I watch?

I like him only in Army of Darkness, Sky High, Tv appearance on Charmed, Hercules and Zena appearances and the Spider-man cameos. You think he would work with his strenghs and would have chained out more Evil Dead movies into more of a serial.

Didn't mean to imply that your well-aimed jizz festooning the Ash poster on your closet door was misplaced. I admire the man-love Bruce inspires among the internet community. More power to him. However, some of us think he's a cornball bad actor and not really that pumped to see him do The Bruce Thing (c). I didn't bad-mouth your Ash action figure collection, just that Bruce riding that ED2 wave this long after is pretty silly of him. But, hey, you might be right - look at the Trek luminaries like Shatner. Anyway, entitled to my opinion, and all that, blah blah blah. Take the candy cane out of your ass and have a happy holiday.

Not an easy feat since I'm not even that old yet. Also, this movie looks to be great. I love that BC is such a sarcastic prick but at the same time doesn't take himself too seriously.
Oooh, I am SO wounded by the haters!

Take your impotent, jealous hate elsewhere. Is that all you got? Your lives suck and you know it. You'd have nothing but effusive ass-kissing for Campbell if you met him in real life and you know it.
