This has been a fantastic season of the show. Some great shows, and the whole "James" storyline was twisty and infuriating. Can't wait to see what they have in the finale.

In my view, what has made season 4 a success is that it has tip-toed on the edge of absurdity without totally succumbing to it (Matt and Kimber, pyscho babysitter, James hacking up bodies). The writers have realized just how far to take storylines, and when to end them before they become too ridiculous, even for N/T. In comparison, season three was so bogged down with the Carver storyline that it couldn't get out of its own way to establish any new meaningful developments, hence why almost no storylines from season 3 were carried over into season 4. Dylan Walsh's acting has been especially strong this season, carrying the brunt of the dramatic storylines and acting, and 86'ing Julia's character was for the best, as they had stretched as far as they could with her character (how many times could Sean break up and get back together with her??). My only real complaint would be the telegraphing of Escobar Gallardo as running the organ stealing operation, but otherwise it's been a very twisted and enjoyable season, with a lot more humor and satisfying stories than the overly dark 3rd season. *friendswithbenefits.com*

i always thought nip/tuck was over the top dumb/silly but i watched anyway- till last years finale and the start of this season. now i cant take more then 10 seconds of it before hitting the remote. it is just too moronic and the writers should be sued for malpractice.

It was (suprisingly) mildly watchable, and much closer to being genre-related than most of the stuff listed here in the coaxial section. Michael McKean as Snow Miser was inspired casting. Goodman as Santa? Just about perfect. Kattan was grating (as always), though.
Definitely better this season than last....

the whole carver set-up was so re-goddam-diculous that I almost gave up on the show. Glad I didn't, because the show really came back this year. That said, I must agree 100% with most everything else The Wrong Guy said. The Shield, Sunny in Philly and Rescue me are 3 of my 5 favorite shows - the other two being Dexter and Deadwood.
Nip/Tuck most outrageous show on television.

The show is amazing. Just when you think they have mined the depths of depravity you have a season with Beastiality and Organ harvesting! Plus you have Xenu hanging out with a porn stars hallucination. I don't recall a single bad episode of Nip/Tuck. The only act more outrageous was Guy having sex with Joanna, his mother, on Green Wing. FX has cornered the talent market with damn near every show well written and fresh.

Beyond absurd, but I still watch...

Nip/Tuck has become beyond absurd, but I still watch just because it's pretty damn entertaining. Realism went out the window long ago, but I have no problems watching the insane plotlines that play out on this show, although nothing shocks me anymore because it predictably goes for the most shocking thing they can do. I predicted the bestiality thing before it was revealed, and as soon as the midgets showed up I was sure they would end up in sex scenes, and sure enough it happened both times. Heck, at this point I wouldn't be surprised if they made Christian Troy the father of himself.

Remember the ear-jacking? Absurd.

Escobar being behind the organ harvesting, and apparently the boss of the French dudes? Absurd.

Visions of Xenu? Awesome... but absurd.

It's still pretty entertaining though... until The Shield comes back. And if I see another commercial for "Dirt" I'm going to scream. This time you've gone to farr... this time you've gone to far! Aggghhh, STOP.

And I agree, Dexter is awesome. So is The Wire. I haven't gotten into Deadwood yet, but I'm going to, perhaps during the dead month of December. *fires up the Bit Torrent channel*.

I fucking hate that kid. I so want Sean to just fucking stab him already. Heck, Julia could go nuts again and wave a guy at Michelle, Matt, and the Carver Twins lined up one behind the other. The gun goes off and the next season we get to see who is the lone survivor (Rhona Mitra, who recovers, does a sexy striptease and has a piano land on her all in one episode).

Interesting that more than a few folks here are down on the third season, which to me was one of the best....For the first time with this show, I really wasn't compelled to watch, as they simply seemed to be retreading stuff they'd dealt with before, albeit with a few more absurd twists (Julia bangs a dwarf!) Having said that, Peter Dinklage is a fine actor and has a marvelous voice; and adding Sanaa Lathan to the cast certainly increased the eye candy--though honestly, I didn't see any real chemistry between she and Julian McMahon. Frankly, I'd welcome Rhona Mitra coming back; that chick is SMOKIN', Carver or not!

No not the montage. That was HORRIBLE. Bad song, and the lip synching was akward, to say the least. I also didn't like the brief and off screen dismissal of Michelle. But having them move to Hollywood, now that is genius. They basically have an excuse to reboot the series, and in the only place that could give Miami a run for its money. I think the show will become a whole lot of fun again (although Sean's Santa scenes were pretty damn fun and hillarious). I am also really interested to see where Sean goes from here. I'd like to see him become freer and more Christian-like (the awesome dude, not the religion).

Yup, Christian Troy is awesome. Especially when he bangs a chick, and then afterwards proceeds to talk shit to them. That guy has the best one-liners.

On another note, that finale was weak... especially the bit with Escobar predictably getting killed by his wife. And WTF is with the French Asians? I find it really hard to believe that they would be working for Escobar.

Weak. And the move to LA doesn't excite me... unless we get 24 and The Shield crossover action.

Yeah, this is my first season watching. I kept seeing promos for it when I'd tivo Always Sunny, which compelled me to start. Really enjoyed the season as well as the first 3 which I've caught up with on DVD. The montage tonight was pretty lame though. I half expected the camera to pan over escobar's corpse in the everglades and see him lipsynching as well.

I didn't see the show. What did they do? Some kind of Magnolia rip-off with the characters all lip-synching to a song???? I actually used to be all about this show. Then I discovered "The Shield" on DVD last year and realized that N/T.... yeah, not so much. The show is almost as absurd as one of the daytime soaps.

The upside of Nip/tuck reaching its finale is that I now don't have to see a Dirt promo DURING EVERY FUCKING COMMERCIAL BREAK ON FX!!!! This will be the only FX show I won't give a chance to, they've pissed me off with the relentless ramming it down my throat. This time you HAVE gone too far, bitches. Anyway, good to see ALWAYS SUNNY will be back next summer, and how about that Shield teaser, eh? Woooah!

And I agree, FUCK Dirt. Their promos were seriously on during EVERY Nip/Tuck commercial break. Give me a break!

Nip/Tuck is consistantly one of the best written shows on TV. This season did jump the shark a bit, but only because of the lame Michelle/James stuff. The Connor plot was excellent, the Matt stuff was great (though not enough of it. I'm glad it wasn't wrapped up in the finale), Peter Dinklage was cool. They did a lot more with Liz, which was good. I just didn't think Michelle held up against Christian's other serious girlfriends and hated, hated, hated the James organ donor plot. It really brought down the season. It was like they kept switching off between doing an episode about Connor, and then one about James, then Connor, then James. Lame. I liked that they brought Escobar back, and his demise was fitting. I liked that they brought back Merrill. I just wish they could have brought back Ava and Sophia Lopez, two of the best reoccuring characters in the show. I kind of liked the finale. It wasn't a big blowout episode, but had a certain nice simple tone to it, though I could have done without the lipsynching and the off screen Michelle breakup. Though I'm glad she's gone. As for whether the show has gotten too absurd, it was too absurd after episode 1. Deal with it. I'm also looking forward to Dirt after the awesome ad campaign. FX's parent network, Fox, could learn a thing or two about how to treat its shows.

Shield teaser

The Shield teaser aired during Nip/Tuck last night, it was awesome. It was basically a series of panorama shots over LA while a moody song played (no idea what it was), and the camera focuses on a cemetary where Vic and Shane are standing in front of an open grave. Vic looks into the camera and appears to fall into the grave(?) and then it just says THE SHIELD - COMING SOON. It is really cool though, I'm sure someone will have it up on youtube or wherever pretty soon. They also had previews for some new show with Eddie Izzard playing some kind of rich jerk(?), couldn't really get a feel if that one will be any good, it was basically just Izzard talking to the camera.
The Izzard show is "The Riches."

I got hooked the second, and best, season, watched reruns of season one and very much liked it, and continued to enjoy season 3, despite it being lesser than the first two seasons. This season was weak. So weak, in fact, that my three friends who used to watch it with me all dropped out and now I have to watch alone. I like Sanaa Lathan, but she was stiff cardboard on this show and is the only woman Christian F***ed with whom he had no chemistry. Matt the Scientologist was horrid, and moreso because of the way it wasted Kimber's character. Peter Dinklage was tedious, Escobar appeared to have cancer, the plot twist were terribly obvious (and not even good entertainment, i.e. dog love story with Melissa Gilbert). Brooke Shields' character was the worst, dramatically weakest and least entertaining character I can think of ever being on this show. I am so sick of this show that I think I'll skip season 5 (although I live in LA, that's just not enough). Yeah, Rosie O'Donnell was good--best thing about the season. And when Rosie is the best thing about Nip/Tuck, it's pretty bad. I think the only way I'll watch this again is if, by some miracle, Famke Jansen's sweet transsexual returns.
Can't say that I enjoyed this season more than last.

I agree. I will absolutely avoid this show at all costs because of the constant irritating commericials. It looked a little bit interesting (although Courtney Cox looks like she's TERRIBLE in it), but after them ramming the commercials down my throat, I feel violated and offended. Hell, that gone too far song came on in the gym a couple weeks ago and I almost had a seizure. Now I am boycotting it. So suck on that FX. Man, I really showed them...

The Dirt promos drive me up the wall too, but I try to remember that the Shield promos did the same, and we know how well it turned out. FX tends to over-promote every show it does anyway, so I'll still check it out. I suppose if there were more intelligent advertisers to buy ad time aimed at discriminating adult viewers, FX could fill the time with commercials, but there aren't, so more in-house promos.
