Sly Question for Stallone

One-liners are everywhere in action movies. Some are great while some leave the entire audience groaning. What are some of the best and worst one-liners that you've had to deliver and how do you manage to say them with a serious face?

I would be interested to know if Sly had been asked when making this film, to never remove the helm, would he still have taken the roll? And if you don't get the answer to the final question then clearly, you're not meant to. Seems like a pretty witty guy all the same, he should run for congress.

Hello Sly, I come from Croatia and I´m a big fan of you. I have one question: Why have you said, you wish that you had not done Get Carter? Get Carter ist one of your greatest movies. You did actored so cool. The Movie is very emotional and there was playing great actors in it. And the other german Fans of you in a german Stallone-Forum (www.slyman.de), are agreeing with me. For a answer of the question we would be very grateful. Greetz Pavlo from Germany/Munich

I remember seeing Sly on television quite a number of years ago, perhaps a Barbara Walter's Special, where he painted a picture with his bare hands in little time yet it turned out to be very cool. At least, that's the way I remember it, just as I remember him being far more talented than most people give him credit to be. So my #1 hope here is that Harry will manage to post some photographs of Sly's artwork. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see some of Sly's personal creations. And I would like to know if he still paints or draws or works in related mediums, ever.

but your movie SUCKS. I went to a private screening of Rocky Balboa last night and if anyone here has any inkling that this movie is anything but awful, you or sorely sorely mistaken. It's a nothing more than a vanity piece by an aging Hollywood ego-maniacal has-been. The first two-thirds is all set-up for a ridiculous final act that stretches the bounds of plausability with its "I don't need to block a punch" fighting style typical of all the Rocky movies. The set-up is ok but it spends the majority of its time trying to convince the audience that a near 60 year old brain damaged former fighter might beat a current heavyweight champion. I mean when you see Mason Dixon it's obvious this wasn't necessary as the guy looks like Mohammed Ali's daughter could kick his ass. Even hard-core Rocky fans will scoff when enjoyable moments such as the training are brushed over in order to get to the fight scene that is not only poorly executed and anti-climatic, but is little more than one giant Golden Palace advertisement. And don't get me started on the gratuitous Paulie moments in which he makes endless racist jokes that we're supposed to find funny or ignore, but just come off as pathetic. Yes, make no mistake, this movie is a travesty.

The main problem with your review is that you took a shot at the actor/director himself, which leads to questions regarding your objectivity. The second issue that I have is that you criticize the Rockyesque style of boxing, which is consistent which the ENTIRE series! So I guess you are not a Rocky fan period, which once again calls into question your objectivity. Finally, your disbelief that a 60 year old chap can take on a 30-something is unfounded because 1) Rocky is in his 50's 2) George Foreman accomplished similar feats in REAL LIFE! Hey it could very be a terrible movie. But your critique is flawed and subjective.

The not blocking of punches...
by abominate
Dec 6th, 2006
03:00:38 PM
...is indeed consistent with other bouts in the series. Sure, it's not how real boxing happens, but it's what we come to expect of Rocky movies, wherein the fights are like cartoon version of real fights. So you get lots of punches being landed, very few blocks, and thunderous punching "whap!" sound effects that of course you don't hear in real life. Look at the Drago fight--if guys hit each other that way, they'd have busted orbitals inside of two rounds. But face it, to have a realistic boxing match in a Rocky film would be boring. I do agree, however, that having Golden Palace and MandayBay ads posted everywhere is cheesy. I haven't even seen the movie--you can see all the ads even in the trailer and production photos. Hope they're not too distracting.

The rest was a critique of the film itself. The second issue that I have is that you criticize the Rockyesque style of boxing, which is consistent which the ENTIRE series! Which I pointed out in my critique. So I guess you are not a Rocky fan period I actually like the Rocky series in a nostalgic way but I thought V was a good ending for the series. Finally, your disbelief that a 60 year old chap can take on a 30-something is unfounded because 1) Rocky is in his 50's 2) George Foreman accomplished similar feats in REAL LIFE! I said "near 60" Stallone is 59 y.o. Foreman's last fight was a 12 round loss at the age of 48. anyone else?

dont insult the legend that is Axl Rose, yes he can be as big an asshole as any rock star, BUT at least he actually is a real rockstar (in this age where pansy emo crap passes for rock, and talentless fags like pete dougherty pass as rock stars) he is still largely an enigma (being as he is not a media whore like *coughozzycough*, and he does not give interviews), he has not sold out and does not suck corporate dick (as evidenced by his decade in the making most expensive album ever, much of which has come out of his own pocket, and he has resisted all record company demands and pressures). He is actually trying something diffent, trying to come up with a new sound and style in rock(those who have heard Better will know what i mean), sure it may fail spectacularly and he may fall flat on his face, but how many rock stars have the balls to take this big a chance? And remember that he dissapeared at the height of his fame and popularity in order to do this. I'm curious which rock stars you like abominate, perhaps whining tools like Kurt Nobrain who whine about how crap their lives are and how "hard" it is being a rock star? Or maybe you like self righteous political crusaders like Bono? No thanks i'll take a rockstar that actually *gasp* enjoys being a rock star and is larger than life. Love or hate Axl for things he has done but remember that "mythical" rock stars like him (see also freddie mercuary, David Lee Roth, Jimmy page et all) are a dying breed and if you like your rock loud, swaggering, decadent and FUN then that is a sad thing
HoJo as First Base coach is amazing/AK-47
by triplefive
Dec 6th, 2006
04:17:02 PM
I love the unrelated mets talk. HoJo was my fave player when i was a kid, so now he can be my first ever fave first baseman. And AK-47 obviously doesn't know shit, cause he said Dixon looks like a man that can be beat by Laila Ali. Which means that he obviously does not know that Mason Dixon is played by Antonio Tarver, who at the time of filming, was light heavyweight champ. Man was, and still is, a bad motherfucker (though he did lose to the 38-year old Bernard Hopkins after he did Rocky B.). So in conclusion, the Mets are awesome and AK-47 is an ignorant fool, and a rather easy target.

I loved the first season of that show until the finale. I knew there was a reason I was disgruntled with Mr. Stallone. Hmm. I'll leave it at that. And Oscar was great. I don't get why people discredit their own movies. I guess they think they're being humble but it doesn't make sense to me. I never saw Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot however. No point in attacking Ak-47. He was just explaining why he did not like the film. He gave some good points. Who know's if he is correct. We will wait and see. Oh and AK-47, none of these people will hate this film. All they are are fanboys who will like it no matter how bad it is. They will just try and deny it if it really is bad. Kind of like the way I am with the Bond films. Yup, just attacked myself there. About Axl Rose, he is a moron. If you can't see that after the past 4 year then you need to wake up. I hate "Gods" of Rock kind of musicians. I'd rather have 100 tortured artists and 100 "self-rightous" political crusaders then one Axel, Roth, so on, and so on. At least there trying to do something to help people. It may mean nothing, but at least they are trying.
