Wasn't Tarantino interested in this project at some point? Maybe they could get him to it.... that could be cool. I doubt it would ever happen, but still... would be cool. Otherwise, while I'm excited at this news like Harry, I'm not crazy about his John McClaine-ish vision of the film (aren't we all tired of the "burnt-out cop" stereotype?). While I agree on getting rid of Serge, I think think Billy can be retained and probably could help contribute to the feeling of continuity.

wasnt that the one with mel gibson in it? wait no. hmm. what about the one with that annoying black guy and jackie chan? dang. oh oh! i know! the one with that annoying white guy and jackie chan! depending on how they market this, it could be a big hit, but the era of cop action/comedies/adventures has come and gone. twice. the only good thing going for it is that its a sequel. if it had Jesus, Zombies or Robots in it, it would be a no brainer!

Nothing reminds me of the 80s more than that theme to BHC. I wore out the VHS tape with my multiple viewings (it sucked too cause I had BHC on the tape with Predator and Fletch) but it was almost worth it. I agree, keep out Serge and give Judge Reinhold a cameo, maybe.

Bev 1 was great, 2 was really cool. 3 was attrocious, but the pieces are there for the continuation of a great franchise. It is sucky that Hollywood knows they have no good new properties. But the fact is that the kind of weird attitude that gave them things like Beverly Hills Cop would never fly today.

We've now entered an age where all these movies from 15 to 20 years ago that we loved as kids are now being greenlit by executives that, like us, grew up watching them: Rocky Balboa, Rambo IV, Mad Max 4 (maybe), Indy IV (big maybe). The studios realize these franchises, no matter how old, have huge, built-in fanbases, and all that matters is that enough of the old fans, plus the "new fans" who've picked it up from their older siblings or parents, will pony up the cash to justify a sequel. Mind you, I'm not hatin' - I'd love to see a BHC 4 just to redeem parts II and III. Hell, I'd pay to see a new Dirty Harry movie!

If they give us a hard R, Eddie is funny but not silly, and it's more the gritty spirit of the first and not the stupid romp that the third one was, I'm on board. Eddie Murphy is a great talent. I can't wait to see him in Dreamgirls, and even Norbit at least looks like he's trying to recapture the spirit of Coming To America and Nutty Professor. This man is worthy of a comeback. I say let's do this and then maybe Tarentino will be ready to put him in Inglorious Bastards. Let's make Eddie the man he once was. It's not too late. And in conclusion: in light of everything I just said, I thought Daddy Day Care wasn't terrible.

Oh man, have you seen Clint lately? Not gonna happen with him as Det. Callahan as much as I LOVE the character. Man's got to know his limitations. And Clint is Dirty Harry. Nuff said. BHC? Eh....I already lived the 80's once. It wasn't that great. But I'd love for Eddie to get a chance to REALLY be funny again and not be in a kid's film. They should do a story line where Axel goes to Hollywood to rescue his cousin (played by Charley Murphy) who is being held as a internet sexcam hostage by freaky Lil' Jon impersonator played by Dave Chapelle. I'd see that twice. Have Lil' Jon make a cameo, maybe have Axel try to bust him by accident.

....20 years since we first saw him and over 10 since we last saw him... He would certainly be private detective, a consultant to a movie studio. Let him come across a scandal like the Pellicano wiretapping scandal out right now. Oops, probably not since Brad Grey oversees Paramount. Make this a hard R. Don't just kill Rosewood - make him a cop on the take that's been killed. The only way BHC has any chance to break 50m in the box office is to make it a hard R. Forget Johnny To...get Andy Lau to do it... that would have been something else if they re-made Infernal Affairs but have the character of Axel as the Andy Lau (or Matt Damon) character.

I could write a damn good sequel to this one. I don't see why people diss BHC 2, that one was actually better than the original. More comedy, more action, and better actors. I love the fact Axel just drove up and took that house like that, and the whole gunclub stuff. My idea would be, that yeah Billy and Taggart are targeted by someone they put away years ago. Axel now a retired cop, just doing some petty private detective and bail bonds cases gets called in for the funeral. Thus bringing him back to Beverly hills only to discover things overlooked by the police, so he takes on the case personally. Since he has no ties to the Detroit PD, he is simply a loose cannon. There's part of your plot.

Eddie hasn't made a good movie in almost 20 years (COMING TO AMERICA), though I've been hearing good things about DREAMGIRLS so I guess that streak might be over. The chances that they'll get a good script for this, and that a good enough director will sign on = pretty small. But I'd be the first to say I was wrong (and excited) if somehow this actually happened and actually turned out to be good (rather than other long delayed sequels, like, say, GODFATHER III). By the way, when was the last time a sequel was absolutely terrible, but then was followed by another installment that was really good? There are probably a handful out there, I just can't think of any right now... (don't bother saying ROTS, nerds)

Writers aside -- I assume there are a bunch of good but generic cop movie screenplays out there that could be turned into an Axel Foley movie -- who would I be excited about signing on to direct? David Fincher, Joe Carnahan, JJ Abrams, Nicolas Winding Refn, Steven Soderbergh (lord knows he needs to get back on track), Tony Scott, Guy Riche (directing not writing), Wachowski Bros, Chan-Wook Park, Tarantino. Some of those guys would never do it, but a few would certainly consider it...

Inspector Todd was aweomse. He actually REALLY WAS AN INSPECTOR for the detroit PD.

I would love for this movie to just be true to what it was. An underdog story. Axel humiliating the rich and powerful criminals publicly. This is where EDDIE shines in general. It's his skill. Humiliating people publibly. Look at the nutty proffessor. Does the scene where Murphy tears Dave Chappelle (the comic) to shreds on stage not stand out as the best part of the movie? He plays the underdog biting back very well.

I love the banana in the tailpipe quote but I also loved the "what do you call getting thrown out of a moving car? J-WALKING? line. BHC all the way!!!!!!!!!!!

Did I fall off the edge of the world or did Beverly Hills Cop seem long past its prime 13 years ago? Murphy already went back to this well and found it to be full of urine. Surely he can't be this desperate for a hit can he? Okay, maybe he can but it would only be worth it if there was evidence that he'd returned to foul mouthed, wise cracking form and as we haven't seen anything of that in nigh on 20 years, any forth movie would be the triumph of hope over experience. Instead of making him retired, how about retarded? Foley could have had a 'Regarding Henry' moment and in a brave performance, Murphy could explore one man's attempt to adjust to life in the Detroit PD when his wit and bullshiting abilities have been cruely snatched away by a sniper's bullet. It won't be very funny but 3 wasn't either and it could be his only shot at an Oscar.

Eddie Murphy performance. When he has all the control in a movie, he comes across as a smug, unfunny pompous ass. When he lets other people have some input, he can still be funny.

My goodness Murphy needs to walk off a cliff. Did he not successfully kill this franchise forever with the third installment? It was truly one of the worst films ever made. I mean it wasn't just bad, it was ridiculously awful in every way.

Wait. Wrong lovable wise-cracking black cop. Say, remember when we were all excited about Beverly Hills Cop 3? And Metro? Remember when Eddie Murphy was gonna light it up again with his brilliant comic timing and affable laugh? We got skunked! Don't let this happen again! (And dear god don't let John Landis near this thing.) Eddie: If you fuck this one up it's back to voiceovers and Pluto Nash for you, buddy. That's the law.

With everey post it seems like Harry is only using AICN to communicate his wishes to studio execs. I can't blame him, TalkBack's crowd is filled with boring selfproclaimed comics, it's repetative and almost always off-topic banter.. AICN is dead, long live ...some other site.

The only cool thing about BHC3 is that George Lucas had a cameo in it. I am actually excited about this project. I will lose interest in it really quick if the wrong folks are pulled in on it. Get Tarantion to write it. Get Donner or Tony Scott to direct. Make the focus on the story and the action. Make the comedy secondary...as part of the ride. Like the Lethal Weapon movies.

Eddie Murphy was and, possibly, is a fucking genius. For somebody to deny that his work in "48 Hrs", "Trading Places", "Raw", "Delirious" and especially "Beverly Hills Cop" wasn't brilliant obviously hasn't seen the movies. Yes, almost all the movies since have been terrible, but "Beverly Hills Cop" is a fucking great movie and Eddie is amazing in it. BHC IV may end up like II and III but you can't deny BHC 1 is an amazing comedy, and there's a reason it's number 1 comedy of all time.

Seriously, Axel F is the greatest 80's theme song ever. Jann Hammer's Miami Vice theme don't even come close. I would LOVE to see the real Eddie Murphy come back. If the American public is going to welcome back Rocky Balboa with open arms God know they should do the same for Axel Folley. And they should TOTALLY bring back Serge too.

about Bowfinger. That was pretty good, but was that Eddie driving the film or Steve? ehhh..... I am not so sure it wasn't Steve but then again, the last good movie he made before that was L.A. Story and the last FUNNY movie before that was Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. DMDWP - Now THAT was a comedy!
About Bowfinger
by Ridge

Bowfinger worked, I believe, because Eddie got to show real duality. On one hand he was subdued, subtle and always great as the brother to Chet Ramsey or whatever his name was, then as the main actor guy, he was overthe top paranoid and almost megalomaniacal. He played both roles damn well, Steve Martin personally, I believe should've gotten an award for that movie. It's truly one of the most underrated modern comedies out there. As for BHC4, I love part 1 unquestionably, I love part 2... I didn't MIND part 3 but I can live without it. Part 4 I agree Harry, open the movie with a scene of Billy getting murdered on the job and Axel getting PISSED and having already retired, coming to LA to do his thing.
Keep it in Detroit this time..

Stop, Harry, now, you're only encouraging the executives and producers who have people who have their people who have their assistants scouring the internet and seeing that their foolish idea to bring back a tired franchise is being met with enthusiasm. "What about Dave Chappelle, can we work him in somehow, he's hot?" "Great idea, he could be Axel's son, or nephew, a hot shot young cop who enlists the help of his uncle/father to take on a syndicate, led by an evil movie producer who insists on bringing back dead franchises and killing the souls of millions of unsuspecting moviegoers."

Foley is now retired, making a lucrative living in L.A. as a consultant on action movies, and he and Billy are contemplating forming their own production company. Foley must return to Detroit, though, when Jeffrey is murdered by cartel/terrorists/irate Lions fans/human traffickers/big oil, take your pick. Hilarity ensues when the now used to high living Foley must team up with his young brash nephew- the aforementioned Dave Chappelle- to track down the murderers and get reacquainted with the streets of Detroit. Evil Hollywood producers. For shame. (Call me, I'm available)

and it's a reimagining of the franchise. Updated, modern, hardcore. No syth music, no up-beats. None of that. No bananas in the tail pipe. Serge is back, sure, but not for laughs. Paul Riser's character is back too, but he's no nerd. And Gilbert Godfried's BITCH screaming chracter is back also, this time in a scene so disturbing, it can't even be hinted at here. A guy with a deep voice will say cool shit in the trailer. You'll all feel cold chills and anxiouly await opening day.

I like that idea, bringing Billy and Taggart to Detroit shoud've been the plot basis for the first sequel. I don't agree that kiling Billy in part 4 is a good idea though, he's just as much a part of these films as Axel Foley, and i'm sure ol' Judge needs the work. And i'd quite like to see him back too.

Why not have Jimmy Serrano from Midnight Run getting out of an LA prison on a transfer to Detroit, being escorted by Correctional Officers Axel Foley and Billy Rosewood. A daring and sucessful raid is then made on the prison bus by Jimmy's Goons who mortally wound Billy in the attack as well as leaving Axel for dead. Upon finding himself a free man Serrano has only a single obsessive thought running through his mind, "Kill Jack Walsh and The Duke", and he's willing to go to any lengths to accomplish this. Whilst recovering in hospital, Axel is visited by Police Detective turned bounty hunter John "Marvin Dorfler" Taggart who informs him that his friend and colleague is dead. When Axel explains what happened, Taggart realises that he has to try and warn his old nemesis, Jack Walsh, of the impending doom. With Axel hell-bent on bloody revenge, Serrano closing in on the men who put him away and Jack Walsh baking scones the scene is set for a tense and violent stand-off, with dick jokes.
