the score for fountain was a great one, not melodramtic or pretentious but very beautiful when it needed to be. can't wait to hear what he does next and I wonder how long till the "at least it's not Danny Elfman" and "he kicks Elfman's ass" bullshit begins

Thanks for putting this together. I am not familiar with Clint's body of work, but I'm definitely interested in seeing THE FOUNTAIN and the interview is a nice primer on the music going into the movie.

Another great interview. Mansell is highly underrated and glad to see Aronofsky remain loyal. I sense another amazing partnership like Burton/Elfman or Cronenberg/Shore.

That is some of the most powerful music in film ever. The last ten minutes of the movie matches perfectly with the music and it is soul shattering.

Good interview, but that would have been the first thing I'd ask him. As far as I know, this is Mogwai's first foray into performing film music and matching them up with Kronos Quartet is genius. I would have liked to know more about their involvement.

not sure what to say about 'death is the road to awe'... sounds very generic and repetitive... just a droning steady rhythm mixed with some weird violin strings and horns.

on the right hand side there's the fountain picture and it gives you a 2 minute teaser of 'death is the road to awe'... but wtf is this 8 1/2 minute version you're talking about???

Click that Beacon logo that says "Hear Nonesuch Records" and then a little popup will come.. Then just fast forward through the different artists till you see "Death Is The Road To Awe" Hope that helps...

the re-mix of your music worked a treat in the Lord Of The Rings trailer - I understand what you mean about the studio essentially backing you into a corner, which sucks - but I've met people who got to know your other work (usually through buying the Requiem soundtrack) by wanting to know "who composed the music behind the Two Towers trailer - it sounds familiar". So while the situation may not have been handled very well, not too much harm done I hope.

One of the first great misunderstood films of the 21 century. The critics en masse are just plain wrong about it. At least I can take to heart that in a few years people will discover it and claim it as a grass roots masterpiece. Like Donnie Darko, except that The Fountain is a better film and actually makes sense.

I used to listen to his band "Pop will eat itself" in the early 90's. A good band. It's interesting to hear that despite the relative success of his old band, Clint ended up being homeless and without money in the late 90's, and doing a soundtrack for a $60.000 indie film for an unknown first time director was what started his way back to the track again. Funny how life goes for some. Seems like a cool guy, and of course he's a really talented musician.

Wow, I did not realise this was the guy from Pop will eat itself. I used to love this band. They used to reference really cool movies and comics in their songs. Beaver Patrol was such an anthem for me and my mates at school.
