all the original stuff like that got cut out are back in the album and it's a treat. especially on the "Gandalf the White" track and the last 58 secs. of the "Nazgul Attack" cue. hope there's a future DVD release that will have all the music back in place. and dammit scorekeeper when will you review it

I'd love to have all of the music for these movies, but I just can't buy CDs anymore. iTunes hath ruined me. There has to be someone that I know that is an even bigger LOTR geek than I am that would buy this and burn copies for me. Hmmm...

but I have one little tiny nitpick; why the hell doesn't the package colors match the color of the extended en now limited edition releases? It is fellowship green, towers red, king blue. Now the fellowship comes out and it's red. Now we get the towers and it's blue. I mean, King will be green then? Why? This looks so stupid on my shelf. It's bitching, but it annoys me. Such a superb release and then the colors doesn't match the dvd releases. Either they should have sticked with red for all the complete recordings or they should have made the colors match with there dvd releases.

"Do you have any comments on King Kong05?" Shore: "Kong05 was a disappointing film and I'm happy in retrospect to have had nothing to do with it." (I made that up, but it's my sentiments, and probably Shore's as well.) Now, if PJ does the Hobbit, which I agree is a dubious proposition, considering his very disappointing treatment of Kong, I just hope PJ does not turn it into a satirical lampoon like he did Kong05, and I hope PJ would have the good sense to keep Shore on as the composer AND OBEY ALL OF SHORE's ARTISTIC IDEAS. I recall PJ dumped Shore from Kong05 due to artisit differences; well we now can see that Shore probably had better artistic ideas for Kong05 than PJ did. So on the Hobbit, PJ must obey Shore on all artisitic ideas. And Shore should fire PJ from the Hobbit two weeks before the deadline and bring on a different Director.

LOTR had an amazing, moving, non-gimmicky score that aided the film, rather than taking it over. Kudos to Shore for doing what a composer must do: Make a movie complete.

Can you listen to it like it's a soundtrack? In other words, do the tracks follow one another like the 1-disc soundtrack, or do they have several tracks in a row of different music from the same scene?

Yes, all the tracks on the set are in the order they are heard (or would be heard, in the case of unused cues) in the film. Ditto with the FOTR set. These sets are utterly magnificent, and worth every damn penny.

mortsleam-If it helps, the complete recordings ARE available on iTunes for only $40. It's not as cheap as getting a burned copy from a friend but it's far more legal. Evil Hobbit-I agree with your complaint about the color discrepencies from the DVD box sets. It is an ultra picky thing but hey, consistency would've been nice.
