Notice how they talk about "in 2-D!" and no CG and so on, and then immediately cut to Homer inside of a computer animated (albeit cel-shaded) wrecking ball crane? The Moe bit was funny though. The Homer stuff not so much.
The whole thing was hilarious.

I did think it was pretty funny too that some of the '2D' was actually 3D. If the writing for the movie has been as sharp as the writing so far this season, we're all in for a treat.

If they can somehow cobble together an entertaining Simpsons storyline that hasn't already been touched upon in the hundreds of episodes already created, THEN sustain interest in said storyline for 100 minutes...then yes, it will be genius, even if it isn't funny. Please God, let this be funny.

I'm a die hard Simpsons fan. By that I mean that, of course it was better in its first eight seasons, but what they have now is still funnier than so many things on tv. It's iconic now. It's still very funny. I'll never stop watching. (Tonight's episode was pretty funny by the by.) That said I think the trailer is funny. I wish there was more. It's a funny set up and a funny clip, but I would have liked a little suggestion of plot. And the scene they showed could have used some underscoring. But I still know where I'll be on opening day next summer.

With a couple funny jokes at best with a horrible gimmick of a plot and a terrible storyline. Simpsons stopped being a good show at about the end of season 8 or 9. The fact that this trailer only plays up on the fact that simpsons is now a movie and features homer doing something stupid for a cheap laugh and has no hint of the storyline leads one to believe that this movie is probably a turkey.
I laughed out 5-6 times during that trailer.

Which is more than I can say for any other trailer in ages. Just consider this: Maybe they actually REALLY put effort into this film, and make it a laugh riot? It's well possible, you know. I think it's easier for them to really put effort into one 90-minute film and make is seriously funny, instead of cranking out one funny 30-minute episode every week. They've been working on this for a long time.
Shark jumped for The Simpsons a decade ago
by NachoNegro
Nov 13th, 2006
04:47:55 AM
And the sad part is, the reason it jumped was exactly the same reason most slightly comic / unreal shows jumped - it strayed too far from reality. Seinfeld had exactly the same problem - all of a sudden you just can't relate at all to the people in the show. Look at the early / good episodes of both the Simpsons and Seinfeld - slightly unreal edge, but still firmly grounded in reality. Later episodes of both are completely unrealistic cartoons (sure Simpsons is animated, that's not the point). I think we all know what this is going to turn out as - it's is not going to be of the same quality of seasons 4-10. The best days of this show were over a decade ago, never to come again - because they pushed it too far outside of it's original premise. It's not actually the quality of the jokes - it's the fact that you can't relate to the situations and the characters anymore.
So does this movie mean...

There is a difference between giving a fair critique and just beating the same goddamn rock over everyone's head....I get the show went downhill, if you actually read my post you would see I was getting at those who bring the same bleak comment again and again...if you think the show went downhill great this is about the movie and we all know most of these guys will be there opening night so why bother moaning. Jdging a whole movie on 40 seconds worth of footage is pointless and anyone making a claim that slapstick was never part of The Simpsons universe need to shove a huge stick up their ass...it always has been part of the show.

dude, why are you so mad? face facts...the show has sucked HARD since season 11. i was a die hard fan for years and years and even remember the night the first episode premiered. it was hard but i let it go...watching my once favorite show slip into sight gag after sight gag, convoluted, jumpy storylines and celebrity cameos ut the ass...in fact i think the writers revolving an entire storyline around a celebrities 2 minute appearance is what did the show in...and just so you know..ive bought all the DVD sets (minus season 1 and 2) so dont you dare think about saying im not a fan. the simpsons fell victim to thier own success and you know what? now they have to earn longtime fans trust back. i hope they do, i really really do. ill welcome them back with open arms, but SHIT...and i mean TOTAL ASS-LEAKING PUTRID SHIT episodes like the Bart drumming episode i saw WILL NOT get me back.

Did you even read my post? No one has ever claimed slapstick is not a part of the show (no one who isn't a vegetable in any case). Slapstick was always a part of this show, Just as it was with Seinfeld. The problem is, as with Seinfeld, in the early days you could relate to the characters, and the problems they faced on a daily basis. The slapstick was SECONDARY to the show. Now, we have a show that has ridiculous disjointed stories that have *no* relevance to daily life at all (as with Seinfeld in the later seasons), and a lead character (Homer) who relies on slapstick for laughs, rather than using it as a tool to compliment the writing. If you have something to say about my ACTUAL POINT thats fine - otherwise don't waste my time with asshat tool-like comments about 'You'll be there at opening night anyway so you have no right to say anything negative about the show'. Oh and by the way - regarding your quote "Jdging [sic] a whole movie on 40 seconds worth of footage is pointless", What the hell do you think the point of a trailer is? It gives you an idea of the film, where it's going etc. And if you're going to say 'You know the show, it's been there 20 years, you know what the films going to be like', then you've just made my point for me. If the film is going to be like the last 10 years of the show, it's going to be a disappointment.

as it seems you too have not read both my posts...I have said the show has gone downhill since season 10 (in my opinion...although most of season 10 was pretty good), but I generally don't think a fair comment can be made on the film...especially when the comments seem to just be the same "it's 10 years too late"...blah. Its as dull as the people who still say FIRST or TOO SOOn..its been beaten down and we all get it. I thought th trailer worked the first scene and gag works for the older audience who are probably sick of CGI cartoon animals...the second gag works fro the young kids who like Homer's slapstick humour..even season 4 not all the jokes were hits and some were for different age groups. The film may suck or it may be great..I am optomistic...so shoot me.

Look Lionbiu no-one wants the film to be good more than me. I am simply saying that a once great show has been poor now for nearly 10 years. That is not a good sign for this film. Jerry Seinfeld turned down a deal that was worth $120m to him to make another season of Seinfeld. Why? Because he knew the show was past it's best, and he didn't want it to die slowly in mediocrity. If that's not integrity I don't know what is. If Matt Groening had the same view, the Simpsons would have ended in Season 11. Instead he's allowed talentless hacks to pull apart his once-great show into a shadow of it's former self. That's right - a F%^%ING WRAITH. It happens to every great TV show - they just don't know when to quit, until finally the audience tells them they've had enough. Look at Stargate - at it's height, one of the greatest SF shows ever to walk the earth. Now it's a mere simalcrum of it's former self. A SIMALCRUM I TELLS YOU.

You're all a bunch of miserable fucking bitter-ass losers who no longer have any idea how to allow yourselves to enjoy life. You have no social skills and cannot truly connect with your fellow human beings, preferring instead to argue over the internet in the sadly mistaken assumption that it counts as real interaction. You will never, ever meet anyone you really like that likes you as well. You will die alone, or die at the end of a long, fruitless life spent with someone you've slowly grown to hate because you settled for their company when no one else would accept you. And I will dance on your graves in my cybernetic body, carrying my moldy, flea-ridden teddy bear in my cold metallic hands.

Oh i didn't laugh at the minute long teaser, it MUST suck! Cmoooon. I personally dont want to see anything untill this comes out. The prob with comedies is that when they have a trailer with something really funny in it, you laugh the first time, then the next time you see it you smile, and then 6 months down the line its just old, and theres some guy in the theater reading aloud the line that hes seen forever. My only complaint with the show at the present is that the story lines are verrrry light on actual story. Remember the ep with Radioactive man the movie? Lisa Babysitting? Trip to New York? Lately, each episode is preoccupied with trying to fit in every singe character on the show into every ep. Sure, theres a basic storyline to each ep, but it takes sidestage so that twenty characters can each say a half funny line. But whatchagonnado? Props to the simpsons for actually making a movie in the first place, 7 years late or not. Hey, on this topic, does anyone remember the Simsons arcade game? Im gonna go find the rom. Whos with me?

But did anyone else pick up on the joke when the recruiters are in the mall and make the comment that "the dumbest teenagers in the dumbest town in the dumbest state know better than to join the army" Wonder if there's going to be a backlash against this like the one after Kerry's joke two weeks ago.

As you sit quivering in your chair, being spoon fed soup by your fat unattractive mother (which proceeds to dribble down your neck as you spasmodically type into the tiny talkback window, laughing maniacally), surely you must realize that your life has taken an unsatisfactory turn? When you think of all the young girls who recoil in horror at the sight of you, does it make you think that perhaps things could have gone better for you? Are you bitter about the fact that small children cross the street to avoid you? Or how about your uncles pet dog, the one that refused to play with you even when you sellotaped a pork chop to your cheek? Do you feel a deep self loathing when you think of the look of disgust on the faces of your family when you walk into a room? When you turn around and look at your mother, and see the look of loathing on her face quickly change to a false smile - does that not hurt you deeply? Just curious.

that trailer was only funny when the ball moved again. That was the only funny bit. The wasted the first half where they rip on other (irrelevant) films, which is so cliche. In fact, in an ironic twist, I can say "South Park did it" with their teaser trailer with Cartman in 3D. Hell, even Family guy ripped on cutsey animal trailers at the start of their movie and it wasn't funny then either.

I really disagree with the consensus of the Simpsons fans here. I've always liked the show. Almost always find it funny. Throughout its entire run, there's never been a TV show on during its time slot that I'd rather watch. Sure, sometimes it is defenitely less funny. I think that is more episode to episode than season to season (some seasons were noticably weak). But I still love the show and watch every episode. HOWEVER, I was only mildly amused at the trailer at best. Even found my head shaking at the rock and a hard place joke. I have high hopes for the movie, but wasn't excited by that trailer. Maybe too much anticipation?

I liked the teaser that was an homage to Superman much more. The Simpsons was genius until they made Homer brain dead and had a ridiculous amount of guest stars...oh, and when the writing started to suck. I still watch new Simpsons on occasion, but more for nostalgia than actual laughs. Seven years of quality is about all you can ask of a TV show, which makes it such a shame that they've greedily driven the Simpson's into the ground.

Any 30 second clip that can make a 6 year old, 9 year old and a 34 year old laugh has got to be good in my book !!! My kids have just got me to work how many days till the bloody movie now though....

is right on the ball. South Park is seriously in decline. I'm afraid to watch it because when it's bad (that is, when the one joke isn't funny) then it's really bad and I just lost one-half hour of my life. They also rely too heavily on the fact their characters have funny voices. Isn't it hilarious when Cartman says something, because his voice sounds funny? That got old after the first season. It still has about two or three good shows per season, but it should probably have given up a while ago.
The show sucks now people, it just sucks. . .

And I was a Simpson FANATIC at one time. I still say The Simpsons, in it's prime, was the best show EVER. Hands down. No competition in site. That said, the show absolutely sucks now. Sucks BAD. I can't stand the "It's still better than anything else on TV" excuse. I'm not comparing it to other shows today, I'm comparing it to The Simpsons in it's prime. The current show & the classic show don't even compare. How the modern Simpson fans' senses of humor have adapted to keep liking the show just baffles me, especially everyone saying they are still laughing out loud. Ponderous man, just ponderous . . .
Why do the haters still watch the show?

I mean, if they think the show hasn't been funny in years, then they obviously watch the show. So, if the show sucks THAT bad, where you fucking loser geeks have to keep using that tired and worn out "Jump the Shark" phrase, then stop watching it. Do something else on sunday night instead of watching a show you don't enjoy. Fucking morons.

OK, THAT was still a teaser trailer, no doubt about it, and for those asking for conan, he didn't have all that much to do with the simpsons, he was a producer for a short time and did write some great episodes (monorail, homer goes to college) BUT aside from him, almost all the original members of the "golden years" are back... and really, a lot of them have been contributing to the new 'crappy' episodes as well. Other than the writing, which is obviously crap (my theory is because the original writers were from the 60's and 70's generation, hence all the nixon jokes, clockwork orange references... those things, etc.) The humor isn't going to be the same because the perspective on culture is now completely different. The reason the Simpsons were so great was because they satirized culture of the past AND present, now days it's mostly of the present, and shows such as south park beat it to the punch by a full year, so it's not worth doing. My major gripe in this whole rant about the simpsons, and i'm sure at least a few of you will agree, is that the show just isn't animated the same anymore, homer being the major example... he's a completely different character now, both in animation/drawing, and behavior. The change happened about season 9, you can see the gradual change in drawing and animation of homer through seasons 7-10... and it really damaged some of the physical humor of the show, meaning the facial gags and homers overall 'likeability' I could go on and on... sorry for the mess.

what a completely stupid waste of time the actual simpsons part was, the CGI was a great idea, the animated bit wasn't in the vein of simpsons animation, it barely had a point (why was homer in a wrecking ball machine trying to save his family from a truck on a road of all things, and then why did he hit a bunch of random stuff saying that he was in a rock and a hard place, cause no matter what happens people will bitch about the movie, effectively putting fox and the simpsons in a hard place amongst its fans?) damn brand new animation techniques killed the simpsons look and feel, not to mention moe has too deep of a voice now days, nitpicking to all but the die hards.

I gave up on the Simpson's a few years ago after too many lame *seasons*. From reading this it appears I haven't missed anything. There's no way I'm setting foot in a theatre to see this unless I get OVERWHELMING good word-of-mouth and reviews. If they can't make a good 20 minute episode, how can they make a good 90 minute movie? Chances of this being remotely good are, well, remote.

Just a quick add-on. I agree with anyone who says that (for me) the show between seasons 3-9 are absolutely untouchable...some of, if not the best, television has ever seen. Practically everyone involved with the show during that period has gone onto great, innovative things on their own. That being said...

There is a time to just let it go. The new seasons aren't up the quality the show started, and they shouldn't be...the show started as a gimmick but grew exponentially good despite its potential. Great stories, great characters, a genuine feeling of depth and characterization... where one-note chracters like Apu and Moe could live and grow to become more than cardboard cut-outs. Where pop culture was treated with respect and reverence (not prostituted for cheapie quick laughs...thanks Family Guy). The entire thing was genuine, and very, very funny.

I'd love to see this show go out on a high-note...it's time. That being said...even though the current run may not live up to the lofty expectations of its previous seasons, it's still much funnier and better written than the competition. American Dad is a complete waste and a mere knock-off of Family Guy...which in itself was an inferior knock-off of the Simpsons.

Just gimme back Futurama. That show was just getting started, and somehow became frighteningly close to classic Simpsons quality. Anyone disagree?
Was expecting more...

But I laughed out loud several times during the trailer. It's done nothing to make me think the movie will suck. I'm not expecting complete brilliance, but if they make a decently funny movie, that's good enough for me. I'm one of the people who grew up on Simpsons and still enjoys it today. There was a season or two that I didn't enjoy at the time, but got better with repeats. I can understand why some people think it sucks, but partially I think that it's just that their tastes changed. I used to love South Park and I can't stand it anymore. But other people still love it. So has South Park gone downhill? Maybe. But maybe it's just that my tastes changed.

I found the first teaser funnier.. something about how homer says it: "I forgot what I's s'posed ta say.." That cracked me up... this time? not so much. Rolled my eyes at the "Rock and a Hard Place" joke... Puns! Hilarious! I do remember laughing when the wrecking ball started moving again though.
