Harry, you'll suck Bay's worthless cock when this piece of shit hits screens and you know it. This movie will be horrible, but when has that ever stopped you before? I'm already hoping for a relaunch done right ALA Batman Begins in 20 years.

Didn't see anything new in that little behind the scenes piece at all. Okay, Spielberg says he's a fan, but I have to ask of what? Id he a fan of the series? or of the concept? Because honestly, I can't imagine an adult becoming a fan of the transformers when it first aired. I'm sure it's happened, but it's hard for me to swallow the idea of Spielberg hunkering down by his TV back in '84 to catch his daily dose of transforming robot. Anyway, I've no faith in this project at all. I really wish I did, but the more I see the less enthused I become. It's the same thing that happened to me with the first Spider-Man film. I was gung-ho for the film, worked at spidermanhype (now superherohype) and had a website featured in Entertainment Weekly dedicated to my personal fan casting of the project. Then the pictures started to show up, and the trailers, and then finally the movie, and it was a train wreck all the way. I expect nothing less from the Transformers. Here ends my doom and gloom prediction.

The reason why they will look the way they will

The producers said that they wanted to go with the most plausible, realistic designs that they could think of. Each robot was designed from the inside-out. The results are realistic; they could exist and function in our world with our technological knowlege. Remember that the original transformers were created by cutting a model truck up into body parts and saying, "There, now it's a person!" without any thought given to it about how "this" would still be fueling/turning "that" or connected to "that." They were only interested in making t-o-y-s. Don't you remember the reason why Optimus' frame isn't flat but has a nose and hood now? According to the production notes, they wanted to have fifty-foot robots, but a flat-nosed frame would have allowed them to build only a twenty-foot robot. The people behind these designs are being realistic and very, very technical in their approaches. I both admire and respect that, and I think that you all should, too.

I am no optimist when it comes to this movie, but there were two things I heard in that promo that piqued my interest. One was the writers saying the robots had character. The other was the old school transformers noise. The rest of it was just a series of balls of flame and people running while those making the movie said it would be good. And I didn't believe them.

..is that it is bundled with the REAL Transformers movie.

I just picked this up and re-watched the movie for the first time in at least ten years...and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's like watching the Flash Gordon movie from 1980--sure it is not a great film, but it captures both the essence of the characters AND the feel of the decade it was made!

Nostalgia filled me as I realized the movie is set in the far-off year of 2005, and how long that seemed to me when I was twelve years old. I loved the old show, even if it was a glorified toy commercial. This will always be the version of Transformers that is the "real" Transformers.

Yes Michael Bay sucks. We all seem to agree. The Rock was only good because of Sean Connery and Ed Harris. But with Spielberg onboard I thought this might have some substance to it. No, after seeing that I am second guessing myself. The moment I heard Spielberg say this will blow me away I realized he was just acting it. That was so horribly bad. We have Bay bringing up Armagedon and Spielberg talking like a 15 year old kid.

I have no problems with Megatron transforming into a spaceship. I really think that him scaling down to a Walther pistol would be hard to pull off in real life. However....... what really vexes me is the seeming amalgamation of Enegon and the Matrix of Leadership. I think that as fans we tend to belittle to role of producers and directors. But a balance must be struck between staying true to the source material and omiting/revising aspects that do not work filmically. That is way I am wary of Bay, who claims to love the source material, and then promptly changes something that simply does not need changing and would work thematically.

like that. The thing is that I am a transformers fan and I really love the cartoons and more the toys. But looking at the cartoon and toys objectively, well, they were at most OK. The cartoons are full of contradictions and greatly exagerated compared to the actual toy. This is most noticible with the megatron toy, which robot form is so crappy that it only barely resembles the cartoon counterpart. They gun form looks cool though, almost the same as in the cartoon.

Anyways, I am just happy to see a live action transformers movie and, if they need to make changes so that it has a more realistic feel to it, so be it. I am glad we have optimus and not rodimus, bumblebee and not cliffjumper, megatron and not galvatron, I am glad to hear the transformers sound.

And I liked armaggedon and the rock, although bad boys 2 has been one of the crappiest movies ever.

And instead of trashing Bay, who has made some FUN movies, keyword being fun (good movies are not always fun), use all that energy to talk shit about Uwe Bowls, and hopefully he'll stop screwing up cool video game franchises.Period.

Really, Bay, you don't want it to be TOO CARTOONY?

Are you trying to let everyone know you're making a live action movie? Cause I was damn confused. Say something smart to intelligent fans who have kept TF alive for years. I'm sorry, but Armageddon was about as cartoony as you can get without having a cat hit a mouse with an anvil. The asteroid looked like the Fortress of Solitude at night, the space shuttles flew like F-18's, they ignored most laws of physics or common sense (why the hell do you approach an oncoming asteroid from the REAR if it's headed TOWARDS you, especially if the back end is letting dangerous debris loose?). If that's his idea of "real," I shudder at what this movie will be like.

I HAVE A CHALLENGE FOR ALL OF U...

Nov 9th, 2006
10:33:36 PM
Hey guys...i live in Portugal, so by the time this film debuts here you'll be watching it for at least a month and a half, if this isnt a worldwide premiere. My challenge is this: we've all seen Michael Bay's films, some we like, some we hate...hell we might hate all of them, but lets see if MB stays true to his "art form". What i mean by art form is the way MB tells a story, let me use 3 MB films as an example: Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and The Island. All the films have a lot in common: Armageddon blow up the Chrysler Bldg. and the camera shows the top falling off, bay does the same in Pearl Harbor with the camera tracking the bomb that hits the ship and again in The Island with the bldg with the huge letter R, that falls and gets tracked by the camera; all films have the MB shot (starts with slow-mo and then goes faster and faster around the actors, sometimes using helicopters) huge shots involving the actors and sunrises or sundowns and lousy musical themes. If u watched MB for the last 10 years u know how predictable he is...so far he hasnt surprised me yet. So the challenge is to guess how is he going to repeat himself again?? How do u think he is going to use the same tricks and shots we've seen a dozen times and recycle them for this film?? Lets start guessing...

And I could care less that Go-Bots is closer to the source material, it's gonna feel childish and cheap just like the Show was. Transformers greatness was belied my it's animated shell. Beneath the surface it was a surprising intricate and original concept that has Yet to find a serious rival in a Sci-Fi Robot centric series. Where? Where the FUCK is the real competition for TF? There is none pussies. This movie looks like it's gonna kick ass. Period. Damn Movie Poop Chute Rejects. Bay should totally pull a Jay & Silent Bob on you fucks. naysayers I mean. You haven't seen shit. Your childhood movie experiences would be nothing without Spielberg and to this day he is a tour de force as a filmmaker. Yet you are so frickin quick to dismiss him. God, the internet has created a frickin monster with guys like you. It's destroyed any type of imagination, wonder, and hope in your eyes. And you are all a bunch of hypocrits when you talk about Harry hating anything that comes from Fox. You're doing the same damn thing when it comes to Michael Bay. That's okay. I've lost hope for you guys. I'm still pumped to see what they do with this. Just hearing that old school transforming sound effect makes me want to see this. Hell, even if its bad, we still get a chance to see FUCKING TRANSFORMERS again! A LIVE ACTION movie! We ALL at least know that those effects will be cool as hell. It's not frickin Shakepeare you idiots. It's a movie about transforming robots! At what point did your hearts turn frickin black? I know, it was the moment you saw SW: Episode 1 after the internet buzz going off for years and then seeing the disappointing final product. I really think at that point, most of you TBers were created. It was a sad disease that spread through the chat rooms and that disease killed your child-like appreciation and wonder. You ask why Spielberg was so jazzed about this project? Saying he was faking it. No, he still has that childlike wonder and THAT is why he makes fantastic movies, and that is why he is so excited about this latest flick. So go on with your black or white viewpoints with no room for anything in between. I'll be in the theater wide-eyed as a child, waiting to see my Transformers come to life, and enjoying every minute of it. As will millions of others not tainted by the nit picky "it's my way or no way" internet zombie viewpoint on life.

It's awful. Prime doesn't even appear till something like page 47. Also, the human characters and their "personalities" take up most of the story. 02:19:44 AM
Um, how do you know if you haven't even seen the movie yet? Give me a break. In regards to "too many people are pissed about..." - fact is, TBers are the ones that are pissed and they constitute a minute percentage of the general audience, as was proven when Snakes on a Plane hit theaters with a dull thud, as well as Serenity. The general audience will probably come to this flcik strong if there's a kickass trailer and marketing campaign, as I'm sure there will be. Character designs? They won't care. It's a revamp of a crappy tv cartoon with a cool concept. People will come to see it. The story? It's taking on a T2-like storyline, which did very well at the box office. Sam is obviously the John Connor role, amidst the war between the transformers. The director? The guy knows how to direct great action sequences and let's be frank, that's what this movie is going to be about. It isn't Shakespeare so stop treating it like it is. And the producer? Who is really pissed about Steven Spielberg producing this? Any person who says that he's a hack or a has been is just making an ass out of themselves. He is a true filmmaker with a great track record. Bomb of epic proportions? Pretty ignorant observation since you haven't seen a full trailer yet... let alone the movie itself. That's the problem with TBers. Prejudge this prejudge that because they don't like every little detail. If the effects are awesome, the action sequences are great, and there's some character to it, you'll see BIG numbers. And no, you are not the first to say that this movie will bomb. I can't say it's going to be awesome. You know why, BECAUSE I HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET JUST LIKE THE REST OF YOU. Sit back, keep an open mind (remember when you had one years ago as a child?), and judge after the movie comes out.

Noo I can't even bear to watch that stupid mars rover landing again. Bay's very stoked about this movie....This movie could have been the next star wars but bay decided to dis the fans thinking they didn't matter. TOTALLY underestimating the size of the fanbase. Everyone is a transformers fan you idiot. :

Orci, "Everyone thinks this is gonna be a cartoon" You dumbass noone wanted a cartoon just something made by people who understood the appeal of the cartoon, fuckface. And the appeal of Transformers isn't just the fact that they change from a car to a robot.Could this movie not have been made without making the characters look so fucking generic and power rangerish? Did Bay have to really be such a prick and drop the Transformers trademark blockiness in favor of a generic robot look? So fixated on CHANGING it in fear it might resemble the cartoon that you've generated a large amount of hate. It really pisses me off, they HAD something. They really did. But they didn't know it. And they opted to throw it away.

Yeah I know Bay's excuse, he didn't want the blockiness because a big blocky leg at human perspective would look boring for the camera. Well sorry buddy but REALISTIC alien robots don't go out and make themselves overly busy for the purpose of looking good on film for humans OK? And as you said realism is your goal right? So you want these characters to be regarded as ALIEN and the mass amount of detail apparently also makes it more possible to pose the characters like......humans? Search for Optimus Prime, do a search. Your ugly ass prime picture doesn't come up til 10 pages deep. Noone cares about your Prime. People want the REAL Optimus Prime: http://www.thetransformers.net /newsstory.asp?NewsID=829&Skin =1 You really could have made them work. People were happy with Prime how he was but you've completely defaced him... Did you really think people would be receptive? :

He decided to make Bumblebee look like an Insect becase of his name. Good thing they didn't use the name Spike huh? They would have had to justify the name and make the human look like an x-man mutant named spike. The movie blows. The robot designs suck and the actors will spout mindless dialogue and have touchy feely comedy moments. You suck Michael Bay
Of course you'll LOVE it, Harry.

The script I read was dated February of this year. I'm sure it has gone through some changes, but from everything I've seen and read subsequently, it appears that the basic structure and characters are the same -- which is a big problem. Also, based on his track record, I doubt Michal Bay is going improve the script in the shooting process.

And with the most stupidest movie ever made lately being his again (War of the Worlds - For christ sake a plane crashes and destroys a neigborhood and the fu**ing minivan is untouched amidst the rubble FUCK! Does he think we're that fu**ing stupid!!!) i hate speilberg i realllly hate him... he owes me 40$ in admission fees! The Fuck!

did not have a really cool car chase. Bullitt did. The French Connection did. Matrix R had some 2nd unit action shots that didn't cut together with some techno music and slo-mo shots. How can something be exciting in slow motion? Here endeth the lesson.

Name one movie that did well that was an adaptation of a popular property in which the movie makers inexplicably changed characters and storylines as well has shot a boad script. This isn't T2. I don't know why you would even make comparisons as Cameron is a proven sci-fi director while Michael Bay is.... well.... directing. In otherwords, Bay doesn't have an ounce of directorial talent and it shows. And I wasn't speaking about Spielberg as producer. It's Don Murphy with whom I have a beef with. The guy's track record is just as bad as Bay's. Also, yes I have the authority to judge the designs because I am a character designer myself. None of these robots are in any way, reminiscent of the transformers we knew, except maybe Prime but that is a long shot. The designs look like they were made from scientists at NASA, which is a bad idea because they don't even look alien. The fact of the matter is, everyone I talk to about this film already hates it. And not just the people on AICN. Hell no one I know is looking forward to this. They all want Spiderman 3 which will be a vastly superior film, even though I thought the last one was good but not great, plus you got Pirates 3. That and I'm spreading all kinds of hate in order to make sure this bombs, such as not paying to see the film, maybe wasting some bandwith downloading it the day it comes out, etc. Also, I've read the script. Have you? It sucks balls. So in the end, you got two other juggernaut films then you have a mediocre director, producer, cast, script, concept designs, along with a bunch of negative press, pissed off fans, which I might add are a lot more than what is seen here. Also, a little refresher for you, in case you weren't paying attention: Do you remember Masters of the Universe and Godzilla? Prime examples (pun intended) of how not to change designs that worked, a kick in the ass to the fans, and a bad script. Basically, they were bombs of epic proportions as this film will be.

I expect more, especially if I'm paying 10 bucks for a two hour movie. I think I'm entitled to a lot more than "Me Robot, kill you Robot". I want a good storyline, plus character development, with characters I'll end up caring about. I don't subscribe to the recent trend of dumbed down action flims trying to make a buck with a paper thin plot and cliched characters. Many of you don't realize that movies like this are just helping dumb down American cinema and America as a whole.

why are so many people bitching about this movie? why do you people like doc_strange think this is just some mindless waste of time. this movie is something most of us have wanted to see made for over 20yrs. WHO CARES IF IT SUCKS?! sure i'd love it to be good...but in the end i'm just happy that it finally "is". you people who are whining about plot and substance have some serious issues. THE MOVIE IS CALLED TRANSFORMERS!!! what the fuck are you looking for? gone with the wind remade with optimus and megatron? if you have such a damn issue with it then when it opens don't go. you whiny bitches should stick to something more like brokeback mountain. maybe then you'll feel like you got your 10 bucks worth. lord knows a movie just can't POSSIBLY be any good unless it reminds us of reality and sorrow right? you damn joy nazi's...FUCK OFF!

I'm usually of the wait and see variety when it comes to movies but I actually find myself agreeing with the talkbackers on this one. Outside of Peter Cullen voicing Prime I haven't seen or heard anything about this movie that appeals to me. I wasn't expecting an exact recreation of G1. I can accept a long nose Optimus with rediculous flames or a Camaro Bumblebee. Don't like it but I can accept it. Problem is, the robots aren't the least bit aesthetically pleasing. No "cool factor" whatsoever. They all look pretty much the same- a pile of pistons and panels that vaguely have a humanoid form. Starscream looks like a freakin' gorilla! Bay says this is a coming of age story about a boy buying his first car?!? That's what appealed to him? I thought it was about an alien war spilling over onto Earth and he's remaking Herbie: Fully Loaded. And why does every science fiction movie they make nowdays, (I'd like to say it again- FICTION) have to be grounded in reality? You're already suspending disbelief to the point where you're accepting giant, sentient alien robots that turn into cars and junk but you can't fathom that these highly advanced beings could come up with a shrinking technology of some sort to make up the size differences? I mean, really, who's going to see this movie, people who want to see action, sci-fi, or an old favorite brought to life or a horde of engineers and scientists hell-bent on nitpicking the plausability of the thing? I know I couldn't care less where the engine goes when they transform. I'll go see it just out of curiousity (and to hear Cullen's voice work), and who knows, it may be a hit with the non-fans. Lord knows the general movie-going public doesn't demand much quality these days, a couple of fart jokes and they're happy. All I can say is Bay better have a good, realistic explaination as to how Bumblebee winds up in a car lot, gets sold and completely rebuilt without anyone noticing all the alien junk under the hood. Hey, I can be "realistic" too.

Im talking to you contagious that had to be the most Idiotic apologist statement of all time why don't you demand more. Why sit back and let micheal bay and Don Murphy and Steven shovel this shit down your throat did you settle for Batman & Robin, Did you settle for Resident Evil or aliens Vs. Predator. If you did you either Rich and do not care how you spend your money or your personal taste in movies is highly dubious.

What the...Fragglerock? No Soundwave, No Ravage, No Laserfucking beak. For f-sake Bay show some creativity and model a Ninja Motorcycle for Ravage. Megatron as a Howitzer or what the hell maybe a tank plowing through rush hour traffick rather than a spaceship. Your messing up the chance to make one of the most kickass scif-fi movie ever. Giant Robot Dinosaurs, Giant robots that form into even bigger giant robots...How hard is it to rent a Cement Mixer a Bulldozer and a Dumptruck...?You get a big O' hell moment in the movie when a bunch of dirt movers form into a giant pissed off Robot, let alone passing over a planet that changes into you guessed it... a giganto robot that gobbles down other planets. Talk about giving Lucas's Deathstar a run for it's money. For godsakes how cool would it be to have a Laptop computer just transform into a winged metalic vulture, a Motorcycle turning into a Judas Priest Cover Art of a Jaguar. How hard it it take a stealthfighter and bring Soundwave into the script rather than a bunch of unknown characters no one but the hardest hard core fan has never even heard of? The days of Robojox is over thanks to CGI and your pissing around with the winning combo to satisfy some retarded urge to remake it into something else. To bad the horror of Godzilla 98 didn't rub off on those running this crapfest.
