Stupid fucking show

Too many BBQ's and not enough panic & mayhem. The logic used by the characters in this show is so completely ridiculous, people seeming to go about their daily business as if nothing has really happened. For a premise so promising they really managed to screw it up big time. I don't know why I keep on watching this piece of shit show, I suppose I'm just optimistic that something exciting is finally going to happen, like violent riots on the streets of Jericho followed by the whole town going bald and dying of radiation poisoning.

The formula (lifted straight from the WB) goes like this - create an interesting scenario, be it a nuke explosion, plane crashing on an island, whatever. And then proceed to surround that with the same old crap you've been dumping on viewers for years, but always keep the cool thing in the background to keep them coming back. Ugh.

At least Lost was interesting for one seasons before spiraling completely out of control. I just hope the same doesn't happen with Heroes. Heroes is a show that's good, but not nearly as good as I feel it should be. I'm using Battlestar Galactica as the barometer by which others are measured, which may be unfair.

I agree. It's not that bad. And I kind of like it too. But also don't mind if I miss an episode or 5. In season one of Lost, if I missed an episode, if I missed even 5 minutes of an episode, I was scouring bittorrent sites immediate following the show. If, god forbid, I actually missed a whole episode...ok, let's not go there.

A funny thing happened during season 2 though. Episodes would pass and I'd be waiting for the "big reveal"...and it never happened. So I'd wait for the big reveal to occur in the show after...and the show after. Instead all I got was endless flashbacks, which is VERY reminiscent of the "Monster of the Week" gimmick used by writers on X-files to milk that show. Anyway, these days if you miss an episode of Lost, you're not really missing anything critical. Really. It's no big deal if you miss one of Jack's 12,000 flashbacks. There's no payoff for keeping up.

My bad, this was about Jericho, not Lost. Jericho is like the 2nd season of Lost through till the present. It ain't bad, but you don't care if you miss it either. I've seen several episodes too and it always seems like it's on the verge of something great...only it never quite gets there.

For one, getting around on the interstates is apparently really easy after the apocalypse. I guess the nukes vaporized every car in existence, pretty much, clearing the interstates which wouldn't have been filled with panicked drivers, oh, no. The bluescreen on tonight's ep was pretty blatant, reminding me of the ending from "The Hunt for Red October." And Jake's handy monologue about how he knew the guy in the clinic was a merc (and which outfit he belonged to) was stretching suspension of disbelief farther than if a mutant with laser eyes had shuffled out of Denver's ruins. Plus, so far, there's no impending sense of doom that should accompany, say THE FRIGGIN' APOCALYPSE. What happened to the ground being radioactive and unusuable? How could a town, even one as small as Jericho, survive for more than a month or two even with the secret stash on the train? And how hard would it be to notice creepy boy making food runs, or anyone asking where the food in the store is coming from? Cannibalism would be rampant pretty soon, if not people just going out of their minds. If they don't stock up on firewood (and like, constantly), everyone's going to freeze to death when winter comes, etc., etc. You'd think these guys would have at least watched "The Day After" or read "The Stand" to get an idea of how to make an apocalypse story compelling or at least scary.

im glad to see the new trend of the networks actually keeping good shows instead of ditching them...and this along with heroes were VERY worth full seasons.. sad to see the same trend on here with one person or another whining on about how the show isnt "as good as i hoped" ..get over it...and stop bringing opinions of other shows in on a board that isnt on that show..... the LOST board is just a click away.... LOST is not out of control, and not "making it up as they go" which is another comment i hate. if a show isnt following someones opinion of how it should be going, automatically theyre "making it up as they go" amazingly someone hasnt metioned "doctor who cares" yet, im very surprised.... BSG is an awesome show, but other shows shouldnt be compared to BSG

The acting, direction, scripts, pacing, blue screen effects, and musical cues are all horrible, but I still like watching it. It reminds me of a time before shows like Lost and 24, where TV action shows looked like they were filmed for $40 an episode. The only thing that could make it better would be if I could watch it with the help of some robot friends. I don't understand how anyone could actually call anything about this show "good". There is usually something to laugh at in every episode, so I guess that is good.

How can you sit and watch a show where after a nuclear explosion people have a BBQ? The teens who don't care wheter family is a live or not have a house party and get wasted. A show where parents let there kids go out and get wasted even though a nuke has gone off! A show where the library burning down was the biggest drama they had faced! Oh no but a Nuke just went off! A part from a few conversations no one seems that both ered about the BIGGER PICTURE! People try so hard to get their lives in order but don't know what they're up against! I would find it hard to go on with my life in the aftermath of a nuke attack that SEEMS to of effectedmy whole country. But maybe thats just me! Now I've watched up to, and including, episode 6 of this series. I love the idea. Its so good. I like Skeet Ulrich. I like the black guy in i t(sorry don't know hisname) and I love some elements. THe bit where the asian guy appeared on the TV was fucking excellent!!! But the shit of a good idea done badly is way to obvious for me to watch. My fear is that this gets more attention and gets a logner run than Heroes does!!! That is a show that is starting out slow, embracing what it has and giving the viewer some hardcore shit,a nd the promise of hardercore shit! heh heh! But Jericho shot its wad in the first 20 minutes and don't knwo what to do! Have people int he town going crazy. Have people panicing. Have peeople desperate to learn about relation in another town. Have the teenagers who were once so fucking cool scared shitless about whats going on. Show what would happen in the world if thisactually happens. Do you know what this show is? Its "best scenario" if this ever did happen. Problem is the best scenario wouldn't happen. It would be out and out carnage. Yes... even in a sleepy town like Jericho.... its such a shame this was my most looked forward to show of the season! :-) LONG LIVE HEROES! :-)

The big problem: THERE IS NO SENSE OF DOOM! I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS forget that the world COULD be over. And for a show about a town faced with the apocolypse... thats pretty fucking bad! :-) I ain't comparing to lost, BSG or Heroes... Idon't need to because the makers have an idea of genius sitting on their laps. They have a cast and characters to do it with. They just need to really think what would happen in a Nuke Attack that seems to wipe out all of USA... :-)

Then there was that episode that said New York caught guys trying to explode a nuke in truck. I just hope we don't find out who nuked the US until the end of teh series. I gave it several episodes, and discovered that instead of a taut thriller about a present-day reaction to a nuclear attack, we have a soap opera with nukes. Instead of The Day After-The Series, we have Days Of Our Fallout. Sure, half of America has been turned to ash, people are going all Mad Max on others throughout the state, but quick...we must spend 15 minutes on whether or not the mayor's schnook of a son will keep pounding his white trash mistress or stick with his chilly, tense wife. Don't care, don't care, don't care, DUDE, DON'T CARE! Give me Heroes and Supernatural, I'm good.

Haven't checked out tonight's episode yet, but overall I've liked it. I think what you guys are missing is the fact that this IS a small town, and just maybe they wouldn't react the way you personally would. Just because you would riot Rodney King-style does not mean that everyone would. In some places people are civil to each other, and know their neighbors, and wouldn't start cracking skulls the minute shit goes bad.
Hellking: China did not nuke the U.S. (Jericho)
by Jim Jam Bongs

Domestic terrorists did the deed. It was a small gang (about 20-30 people) who committed a series of Oklahoma bomb style attacks, by using trucks loaded with nuclear bombs and parking them in the midst of major U.S. cities. The nuclear material was stolen from America's own nuclear stockpile. As for the finale, well, that has not been written yet. But the producers have hinted that international aid will be airdropped over Jericho eventually. However, getting back to the real world, you asked rhetorically why would an enemy (China or whoever) who bombed us want to aid us with airdrops? Well, didn't we do the same to Afghanistan and, further back in history, to Japan?

Jericho as America in miniature

Hi all, Long time reader, first time poster. I've been watching Jericho since it's premiere with the hopes that the show would eventually come to the theme that I hope it was created for: to show how Americans would react if others did to us the things that we have done in other parts of the world; topple governments, "shock and awe" the populace into submission, occupy and then rule. I am hoping that the domestic terrorist angle is just the beginning of a foreign invasion, and hope that this invasion isn't from some third world country or even China, but would be more of a faceless Enemy, a coalition of other nations under one banner (U.N.? perhaps) and that then we could explore how Americans would react to their way of life disappearing, how they would react to their rights being taken away from them, and how long it would be before we saw them stand up and start to fight back. How would it be for the folks in Jericho to see tanks roll in, foreign troops "protecting" the town, foreign teachers in the school, the church closed down because of subversive activities, and the mayor told to capitulate or else have the town turned over to a willing lackey. Or to see images of the U.S. President on "trial"? Or to be told that we are being "liberated"? In a town of 5000 residents, how many would say "enough?" Unfortunately, I think we're going to get alot of WB-style melodramatics and lame action scenes versus any real meaty writing in this show. It is stretching the concept past the point of believability, even for such a fantastic concept. I had hoped this show was Iraq in reverse, but I think it's going to become a slightly glowing Dawson's Creek in the end. I'll stick around until I can't take it anymore and then seal myself in my pill-box and count the days until 'I Am Legend' comes out. Yah. Call me Free! Free

I tried giving this show a chance. Early on, I dvr'ed each episode, and would eventually get around to watching them, but I just never got hooked. seems like most people want a Mad Max, Resident Evil kinda thing and that's not what this show is about. Unlike all of your post-apocalyptic fantasies, the writers actually did this thing they call 'research' and found out that a nuclear explosion is not the doom-inducing horror that everyone thinks it will be, and that you could survive. So the show is about a community surviving a nuclear attack not about a 'sense of doom'. If you want cannibalism, watch something else.

The point is that almost all parts of the United States would run out of processed foods in about ten days if the transportation grid went down. One trainload of supplies would buy a town of this size another month, tops. More importantly, PEOPLE WOULD KNOW that supplies were finite, and would respond accordingly - by hoarding and by trying to take their neighbors' food. In addition, none of the electrical equipment in the town, including the starters in cars that are less than 30 years old, should work, due to the EMP effect of all those nukes going off nationwide. If their water system employs a powered pumping station or water purification plant, there should be no running water. There is absolutely no point to making a nuke attack the focus of your show if you aren't going to make even the most basic attempt to represent the material conditions that would follow a nuke strike. These people should be hungry, thirsty, dirty, and lightless. People shouldn't be hanging out in the bar, trading worthless currency for iced drinks, in the 2nd episode. Anyone who watched the show thinking, "Wow, what a premise - imagine all the crazy challenges these people will face!" would watch three episodes [like I did] and then say, "What a gyp. What a waste." They advertised "Alas, Babylon" and instead gave us Captain Kangaroo.

China doesn't have the logistical ability for such a relief operation unless it was a part of an internationally supported effort. I don't think the US dropped relief supplies to Japan during WWII. The thing is today, the US says it engages in military actions for humaitarian reasons, so whether or not the intentions are true, dropping relief supplies onto a country that you attacked is more about PR. If China didn't attack as the show vaguely suggested it did earlier, yeah I can see them helping out as a good will gesture. But where were those missiles being launched heading? The US certainly isn't nuking their own territory. And who let off the EMP explosion? You need a nuclear missile to do that. I guess "Hollywood" domestic terrorist could manage to do it.

I still watch the show. I watch a lot of bad shows, but see potential, just hoping they would get better. Yeah, these townsfolk are a bit too calm for just going through a nuclear aftermath. Would you really have block parties after a nuclear attack even it was for morale. And those teenagers need a good dose of radiation. With all their teenage issues and now someone just interupted their lives by nuking the country. How selfish of them! I saw a couple of Joan of Arcadia episodes. Jericho feels like that kind of family melodrama but they just added the nuclear attack for a twist.

but for me, it's practically no characters that I like. They're all so bland. I hate the IRS girl, can't stand Jake's mom or ex-girlfriend, his brother is boring, the kid is creepy, the girl he likes is a bitch, the store owner is annoying, etc., etc. And I agree with whoever said about not caring who Jake's brother is banging, white trash bartender or pale frigid wooden wife. And why is their water supply not contaminated? It all comes from wells, right? Soooo, a whole episode was wasted on radioactive rain that wasn't actually radioactive? This show reminds me of the monster of the week episodes of The X-Files, except instead of a different monster ever week, it's a contrived, overly dramatic emergency that has little to do with the mythology. They need to up the danger and draw the drama from that, not from "I need my mother's jewelry box back". They also need to stop with the craptastic acoustic song of the week at the end of every episode that plays over the let's all be friends montage. I'll keep watching since last night's episode actually had some tension and excitement, but I'm taking it a week at a time.

After the second episode I just couldn't see the point of continuing. I came here hoping people would say "it gets better and better" so that I could give it a chance again. This is the first time I tuned into CBS since the Duke of Hazzard (no joke, it's not even programmed into my dial) cause every show just seemed so bland to me. This was a less than bland concept executed in a bland fashion. It just felt phony to me. The super cop, with his "homeland security" training and the rousing town-come-together speech by the mayor gave it the feel of propaganda. At least 24s propaganda is somewhat exciting. And people here are indicating that it was domestic terrorists responsible??? No one, regardless of agenda, is going to nuke their own country into an uninhabitable wasteland. Maybe DC, but not a bunch of cities. Oh well, at least the networks are experimenting with different formulas. The cop, doctor, lawyer show thing is decades beyond played out. 'Cept maybe for Dexter. Been liking that one.
