Love the Venom Design. Not so sure about Goblin...

he looks more like the old Rocket Racer character colored in green. I did hear that Harry wouldn't actually 'become' the goblin in the fullest sense. Still, seems if you're going to have Harry make an appearance in gear, he out to be the Goblin.

venom looks great of course, and we already knew sandman did, leaving only GG2 in question. i know there's gonna be a ton of fanboy whining, but i think he looks in line with a lot of classic spidey villains like the beetle and the shocker. definitely a step up from the first movie.

The designs aren't bad. Love Venom. Especially the big-ass white spider. Sandman's kinda hard to fuck up but he looks great too. Goblin II looks lame, but fits the younger Harry character from the films. I can see him designing that. The snowboard glider is hard to get over though.

There will be no in between for me. I am all geared up for this movie, especially since hollywood seems to be out of any type of orginal ideas lately with all the horrible movies they are making for a quick buck. I love everything I have seen so far from this movie and the teaser trailor is the best I have ever seen. Raised webbing???? So freaking what. We got over the organic webbing, they have done a great job with these movies so far and a few differences from the comics is fine by me as long as it works. Can't wait till Thursday for the new trailor!!!!!

I thought they wanted to show more of the face. As a "real life" costume itt sort of makes sense but just look at what Spider-Man is wearing. I think we are willing to suspend disbelief is they at least give us villians that look somewhat like the comic book version.

The symbiote gave Spider-man that look becuase subconsiously he was immitating Spider-woman's costume. See what happens when movie makers are worried about "explaining things" so much in a fantasy world and making them "realistic"? We can see by your question it just leads to more confusion. Every costume is great except Harrys. That is not the Green Goblin and the first Green Goblin was a better costume to me. Atleast he had his glider. :(

That ridiculous GG2 design has accomplished the impossible! I no longer think the first movie's GG costume is the worst piece of shit aspect of the franchise. I predict that GG2 will die on the way back to his home planet a la Poochie... P-U. You're right to pull those pics SONY, and if it's too late to change the design, I hope you can get access to the time machine in the Vatican or spin around the earth a few times and fix that goofy ass focus group/ committee clusterfuck designed look. Hey I just wanted to say that I love all of the designs. Updating GG2's vehicle to a board was a tasteful, respectful and intelligent touch. Truth be told, though, if I remember correctly, either the director of one of the producers or somebody else in charge said once that Harry wasn't going to become GG2; he was going to become someone brand new who had never even appeared in the comics. I say, go for it. My only complaint about Harry's suit has nothing to do with its style; it's similar to the same problem Batman faces: there's a huge part of his head just BEGGING to be targetted! Somebody get a helmet on that guy! As for a cape, that would look lame. I mean, would YOU what Harry's wearing, or would you wear that, plus a green cape?? That's pretty nerdy lol. Billions of dollars worth of technology at Harry's hands, and somebody complains that he needs to wear a USELESS piece of FABRIC. As for a hood, let's be honest: the thing would fly off lol. C'mon guys, let's be real :P
I guess I just don't understand the difficulty...
by Immortal_Fish

...adapting the classic Gobbs costume. Spidey 1 came close enough. All that was missing was the purple tunic. A reason for the mask would have been nice too, like breathing out the 'sleeeeep' smoke. Lemme put it this way -- where did he pull his pumpkin bombs from? No satchel on his suit. A purple tunic would have answered that question as well as carry the faithful look. Hell, it's been said time and again that DaFoe already looks like the Goblin without makeup. Could have easily pulled a Jedi-ish hood-casting-shadow-over-face effect to drive the effect further.

I emailed the GG2 surf board ages ago. And it was taken as a rumor, but it was taken with skeptability. Either way, I don't think the Goblin looks that bad, especially since Sam Raimi said at Comic-Con it's not really supposed to be GG2 or Hobgoblin, sort of different.

That's not really how it happened. In the original story (comics), GG1 threw Gwen Stacy off of a bridge. When Spider-man snagged her with his web, the force of her stopping suddenly snapped her neck. The car full of children was for the movie only.

If you freeze frame the trailer, you can see that Harry's costume looks exactly like the pic above. I'm pretty disappointed with this, but I felt the same way about the original GG costume until I saw him in action in the movie, then it definitely grew on me. Venom looks great, but I agree that they should have gone with the Lizard storyline that they started in Spidey 2. Sandman looks just like the comics though, very cool.

Random Thoughts on the SPIDERMAN movies...

11:43:31 PM
Liked em, did not love em. A few things did not work for me: 1. The Green Goblin desin was friggin horrible and looks to get much, much worse in #3. 2. WHere was Sam Raimi the risk taker as a director? Where was the manic energy and crazy shots?? 3. Way to much faky CGI. Sorry, but it still looks like a video game to this geek. 4. How in the @)@*#&^ did spiderman balance a 100lb woman with one arm and a 30,000lb cable car in the other? I mean, it was like he was straining EQUALLY from both. Sorry-that was terrible beyond giving Raimi a pass for that one scen alone. 5. In #2, Spiderman gets heurt bangin head falling about 30 ft into an alley. And yet, HE CAN STOP A TRAIN WITH HIS FEET. Yes, he can stop a train, ripping through the tracks like they were toothpicks. This IS spiderman, right, and not the HULK or SUPERMAN, right? I mean, it is a comic, but at least play by the rules of your comic movie universe. If he can do what he does with a train, he is basically as powerful as Marvels THE HULK now, yet he gets knocked down by a punch in the face???? That to me just took me out of the whole movie. Stupic. Just lazy, stupid filmaking. Sorry, but BATMAN BEGINS and SUPERMAN RETURNS at least respect the limitations of their comic universe and play by those rules, not break them any time they get an idea just for the sake of a cool action peice. That SPIDERMAN did is bullshit.

Well I'm going by the original books, from the late 60's/early 70's (not sure when it happened, late 60's I think), but there is definitely a possibility that somewhere else it happened the way your friend told you. It's just not the one I'm familiar with, or the original storyline. In general, I think alot of people were upset that MJ was brought in first in the movies, since GS was Peter's first girlfriend in the comics, with MJ introduced in the (I think) 70's. I don't know about other Spidey fans, but for me seeing MJ on the bridge with the GG created some cinematic tension, since she was in the exact same position GS was in when she died. I think it was a strange situation where they were able to amp up the suspense for the hardcore fans by using a familiar storyline with a different character, while also keeping the general audience in suspense. Good writing in my opinion. I think the movies are a great interpretation of the overall story, and the few changes they did make are ok with me.

I also disagree. It clearly showed that it took everything Spider-man had to stop that train, to the point where he passed out afterwards, where after he fell into the alley, from more like 150 feet, he was able to limp away. I think they did a great job portraying his powers in Spidey, where Superman was just an inconsistent mess.

no, it has always been that if superman is in the proximity of kryptonite he is weakened. moreover, i think it was a stretch to make him lift that into space, let alone a kryptonite version. in the movie he was pierced and recharged himself in the sun. but he was beaten down before he was stabbed because he was near the kryptonite

I thought Spider-Man 2 was the perfect balance of action, humor and character development. Doc ock in that movie is about to rip New York a new ass, but you feel sorry for him. That's a powerful piece of characterization. As far as action, you had the bank scene, which turned into the Aunt May kidnapping, the car chase (with the robbers), the deli scene, the entire train sequence, the clock tower and the finale. What more could you want?

Yeah, gotta agree that whateverinthehell Harry Osborn's supposed to be looks kinda dorky. Venom looks badass, though. Also, I'm really surprised that there are people who didn't like Spider-Man 2, I thought it was better than the first. I mean, you could argue that Doc Ock was much more sympathetic than he was in the comics, but, on the whole I liked the movie. It's like I always tell people: the comic will alwys be cooler than the movie, if you accept this, you'll be much happier. What's important is that the movie's don't change what's important about the characters (i.e.: "Let's do Spider-Man, only, he'll be this deformed guy who lives in the sewer, and he's got eight arms and eats bugs and he was created by the Green Goblin, this ancient mystical monster..." etc etc etc). Just remember: it could be worse. It could be "Catwoman."

hey spider-man 2 was ridiculous. they introduced doc ock and he held almost no importance to the plot. he look and was done awesomely, but the film was just like an episode of young and the restless, the whole film was 2 hours of every character talking to every other character about how peter loves MJ with some useless action thrown in. thank god we have the alien symbiote and venom in this one. the pics look more like renderings for a spidey 3 game, most likely on xbox360 etc. but if this is what venom will look like then itll be awesome!

Ya know what? You just delivered my point home. In most action films, it's immposible to count all the action sequences because there is usually one every five minutes and you have countless by the end. It's actually the ones that you go- errr, let's see you had this one scene here, and then that other one...those are the ones that terribly lack action. I like(don't love them--- cgi Spidey in action looks too cartoon-like, too video game graphics circa 1999) the Spidey films, but I remember seeing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in the theater, and seeing people jumping several feet in the air and climbing walls, and jumping from ceiling to ceiling. I knew they were making Spidey 1 at the time and I thought-wow, look what they can do now. Spidey will be great-looking with all this wire action. It looks gravity-savy, organic and has a great flow to it. Sight. Instead they went with the Hanna Barbera Cartoon Hour. I was greatly dissapointed with that. Then almost no action in the second one. Oh, and the worst offence and sin of all. Why did they cast a 5 foot 3, waif, toothpick, so-white-as-snow-she's-almost- transparent girl, to play a character that in the comics is like 6 foot tall, has more curves than Malibu, and is basically the hottest woman alive in the world of the comics? Oh, and how come in the movies she's a serial dater? Much, much to dissapoint there. I won't say DAMN YOU SAM RAIMI! It's not THAAAAAT bad, and Spider-man 3 looks very promising. But at this point I will say. DAMN YOU JAMES CAMERON, WHERE DID YOU GO?... ... ... ... ... ... ...AND WHY?

I see your point, some of the CGI from the first film doesn't hold up, but it works, and the second film is a major improvement. And those action scenes I mentioned aren't just a couple seconds here or there, the train scene alone is 15 minutes long. I'm a life long Spider-Man fan and I love the movies because they're pretty true to the characters. And it's because they're so grounded by the characters and not action heavy that they're great, they have a good balance. The comics are the same exact way, some issues are mostly action, some are mostly exposition, some half and half. I would have liked to have seen Cameron's version of the films, but only from an action point of view. I'm afraid if Cameron did them, we would have had a Dicaprio or Depp as Parker, Schwarzeneggeer as Ock, and Bill Paxton as Uncle Ben, and it wouldn't have worked at all. The casting in these films has been pretty much perfect. As far as the Dunst as Mary Jane issue goes, I always thought that it was a little ridiculous that the most beautiful woman in comics fell for Peter Parker the science nerd. If they had Rebecca Romijn in the movie falling for Tobey Maguire, who is the perfect Peter Parker by the way, it would not have been believable. I know, I know, it's a movie about a guy with spider powers, so who's talking believable? That's the thing, the relationships need to be believable so that the fantastic parts can work. I think it was a creative decision to cast Dunst, and a smart one at that. It's just too bad Tim Burton never got his shot at Superman.

When Supes is carrying the landmass upwards, YOU CAN SEE THE KRYPTONITE GROWING OUT OF THE ROCK RIGHT NEXT TO AND ALL AROUND HIM! There was no 'layer of the earth's crust shielding him', he dived under it in order to get to the bottom of the kryptonite which had rooted and started growing from a crack in the seabed. I really enjoyed the film, but that scene was fairly lacking in consistency with the earlier bit where just being stood on that landmass allowed Lex Luthor to beat the crap out of him.

On topic though, GG2 aside, those pics were cool, and since Spidey 2 was a step up from Spidey 1, I'm hopefull for a great film. Pity Singer left X-Men given that that was going the same way. At least X3 didn't blow quite as hard as I was worried it would.

That's good news finally... I like the webbing on the costume actually, not bad at all... It shows that Venom was part of Spidey for a while at least ('cause they kept the same red & blue costume and made it black when worn by Peter.. which sucked big time), but at least they went back closer to Venom's actual design. Sandman, if they messed that one up, they would've reaalllyyyy benn the biggest idiots of all time. A green shirt with black srtipes and a pair of pants... Now that big budget planning for your costume design... The Goblin design sucks... Why go all snowboard all of the sudden, I was hoping for a closer original goblin (comics not the plastic head movie) but I guess we can't win them all...

Supes has the continent on top of him with kryptonite growing OUT of the BOTTOM WHERE HE IS, no "earth shield" as you mentionned.. so before telling off everyone, you should pay attention, get new glasses, and probably a new brains, I think the one you have as been recalled by the manufacturer "Dumbass Syndrome" they said...

Why should we expect these movies to be faithful? Spider-Man has revealed his identity to the world, Superman is married, Cyclops cheated on Jean Grey, Iron Man's a government stooge, Batman is throwing Alfred up against the wall of the Batcave and threatening to beat him up. I don't recognize any of these jerks as heroes, much less "superheroes." Bah, let the moviemakers do their worst - how much more damaging could it be than the actual comics nowadays? Oh, and Superman Returns sucked.

At least the symbiote suit is staying true to the comic books. The white spider symbol is because when spidey got the suit it was during the "secret wars". His red and blue suit got torn up, and his web shooters got messed up by Reed Richards. when spidey is getting his suit fixed, he accidently lets loose the symbiote. It's also explained that he bases his suit on the second spider-woman who has a similar black and white outfit. Goblin Does look similar to the rocket racer, and sandman looks alright. What about the mysterio rumors? are they legit? if they are they should put flames on him to make him look more modern (jk)!!!

by uberman

01:13:13 PM
The strain of.....(drum role please) STOPPING A TRAIN. Now, Kal, just answer this: What is the extent of Spidermans powers? Apparantly enough to stop a train. And a train weighs...what? How many thousand tons? And x that by its velocity...hmmm. Your right, Spiderman can do it, after all, he got BITE BY A SPIDER! Thats right, he has SPIDER STRENGTH! But, to show how hard that was, we see him exhausted on the train floor. Yep, that was a toughy. And in the 1st one, he has to deciede between balancing a 100lb woman in one hand, and a 30,000 ton box car in the other, and remember, BOTH ARE OF EQUAL STRAIN ON HIS FRAME. Yep, thats right, he has to choose one or the other. So, I guess what it comes down to is this: SPIDERMAN CAN DO ANYTHING THE PLOT REQUIRES. In the next one, I hear he gets shot by a anti-aircraft missle which bounces off his ass while he struggles to hold up the SEARS TOWERS in one hand while trying to keep from spilling his latte in the other. But dont worry, its plausable, because he breaks a sweat. For fiction to work, it has to 'suspend' disbelief. Now, Kal-El, Mel or whatever, start the name calling, nasty words, the F-you's, and the rest. I can take it. It bounces right off me due to my Uber powers. Word.

First off, way to disregard the hits you took in regards to Singerman Peeps. If you ingore it, it isn't there, right? Secondly, it was a COMBINATION of things that lead him to stopping the train. Did they show Spiderman jump down, say: "Fiendish train, you shall go no further!", place his hand out and stop the train? If they did, your ass-inine simplification would be correct. But they didn't, did they? Also, thanks for bringing up him holding a 30,000lb box car from the first movie. If he wasn't pretty strong to begin with, he wouldn't have been able to do that, would he? And "equal" strain? Watch the film again, Einstein. He was losing his grip on the CAR, not MJ. He had to strain to hold the car so she could climb down. Your hatred, and ignorance, clouds your memory. And since you ATTEMPTED to fire the first insult, don't even attempt to act as if you are being attacked. Moron.

Stop complaining that the designs look nothing like the comics!!! This character isn't IN the comics, so there's nothing to compare it to.
How strong is Spiderman?

I remember back in the Eighties Marvel came out with an encyclopedia that quantified the powers of it heroes, a mistake in my option, since it created canon, and that is always dangerous in the hands of nerds. Anyway if I remember correctly it stated that Spiderman could bench press 13 tons. 26,000 pounds ain't too shabby. however Spiderman has never been about him overpowering foes, it was his smarts and trickeration that help him beat the bad guys.
Exactly, Iron Muskrat.

Acording to the powers he has in the new movies, good lord, he should be able to 'literally vaporise' his foes with one punch. Why should he rely on smarts? The dude can stop a friggin train. Jesus, by that logic, he should have been able to crush the Green Goblins head like a paper cup. One kick to the groin of Doc Oc would have sent his leg right through the guys pelvis, said nards dangling from one bloody spidy sock.

they are, I believe, for the video game. Venom does not have the big white spider that prominent in the film, he more represents the images that were on teh net a few weeks ago from sideshow collectable, where the whtie spider is tangles in his rasied webbing and alot thinner, not like the comic book white spider

for fuck sake, it a well known fact that Spider-Man not only possess superhuman strength, but also superhuman INVULNERABILITY, i.e. being able to take the strain of the breaking train tracks and NOT getting his arms ripped off...what is DOESNT mean is that he is impervious to pain, thats why a punch to the face will still send him back a bit...and no this isnt an invention of the movies, its been in the comic since day 1....so if you still dont like it, then go find another movie, like the ungodly pretentious POS that was Superman Returns (Now theres a hero where they just make up powers for a movie....amnesia kiss my ASS!)
Regarding GG v SM in SM1

Another reason why the Green Goblin proved to be a challenge to Spider-Man was that, at least in the movie, he was weilding the super human strength of the serum that he had taken earlier, as well as the additional super human strength given to him by his green [admittedly Power Ranger-ish] techno-armor. I'm not sure why the Green Goblin in the actual comics proved to be a worthy adversary to Spider-Man, however, since he was simply a mentally unstable man in tights and a cape riding a flying board-thing.

One of the things that bothered me the most in SM2 is that when SM hits Dr. Oct the guy takes it. See, I agree with spiderman stopping the train. This is even supported in the comics of spiderman having superstrength ( and also accelerated healing, though not wolverine fast). However,....., Dr. Octopus is just a human and his super strength is in the artificial arms, not his human body. So when spider-man hits him in the face (this happens several times in the movie) Dr. Oct should have been KO with just one punch.

And this is one of my main bothers about SM2.

Yeah but Doc Ock was cool

*****MAJOR SPOILERS****** Yup, Harry doesn't die early on. It is indeed a four way fight in the end with Harry helping Spidey, and actually sacrificing himself and dying to save his friend. You see MJ in black because she just attended Aunt May's funeral, who does die in the middle of the film...

spider-man being the firendlier of the heroes deliberately "pulls his punches" so as not to kill anyone....its in the comics, but wasnt really explained in the movie...

...and relative invulnerability: I don't know where the Ultimate version has taken him, or really much of what's happened witht he mainstream character since 2000, but I can say that his strength as depicted in the comics has ranged anywhere from his being able to lift (with significant strain) two or three tons to his being listed as possessing superhuman strength allowing him to lift between 10 and 30 tons (sources for htis are the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and the officially sanctioned TSR Marvel Superheroes role playing game). The discrepancy in his strength level was often attributed in comics to surges of adrenaline and his natural tendency to hold back when exerting against non-superpowered thugs (an outcropping of his great power/great responsibility hangup). As for his relative invulnerability, that's pretty unprecedented. He's always been depicted as plagued by typical physical maladies (including colds and bruised ribs). In the 90s I believe he was imbued with a Spider healing factor, which I never really got (I don't see a lot of the spiders I smush recovering from their injuries in record time), but which might explain his need to pass out and recuperate after the train incident in 2. As for that train, he tried to stop it multiple times with his webbing, which has been listed as possessing a tensile strength sufficient to restrain other marvel characters possessed of super strength within the 50-75 ton range. So it stands to reason that the trains forward momentum would've been slowed some by those attempts. Assuming that Spidey was in the throes of a Spider-strength enhanced adrenaline surge at the time he stopped the train (with the help of his flexible yet strong webbing), I think that feat's well within the pre-established "limits" of his powers demonstrated in other media. What made no sense to me was Aunt May, who should've shattered like the stem of a wine glass when dropped and caught on the side of the building during the post bank-robbery fight scene. That and it didn't really look like Spidey was pulling his punches when hitting Doc Ock, so I kept expecting Ock's head to come off.

How about that? People disagreeing with you without resorting to calling you a fag, moron, idiot, asshole, without having to defend their really misguided and overwrought hatred by stating stating things like'Well, you started it FIRST (sounds like something a 1st grader would say, doesnt it?)', trying to demonize those who hold a valid counter view. No, the fact is that Spidys feats in the Raimi movies continue to defy logic. And, for this seasoned movie goer, SUPERMAN RETURNS was the better of the comic movies. That is all.

Ohhh what whiney moron has returned from the depths of ignorance? Uberman! Who casts the first stone then attempts to back-peddle when holes are kicked into his paper-thin rantings? Uberman!Exactly WHO had a "valid counter view" on ANYTHING I said, numbnuts? Seems that by reading the preceeding posts, pretty much EVERYONE was agreeing with me, and pointing out how much of a moron you are? Reading, along with pretty much anything involving an ounce of intelligence, is definitely beyond your grasp. Also, judging by the box office numbers, your idiotic statement about the "seasoned movie-goer" and Singerman Peeps is EXTREMELY off-base. Anyone want to bet Spiderman 3 DOESN'T do more than $200 million domestic (in less than 8 weeks at that)? Anyone?

I agree. Spiderman 2 is one of those movies that is impressive at first, but EASILY forgettable. Singerman? So INFURIATING that you just can't get past it. Singer had EVERYTHING at his disposal, and THAT is what he came up with?

Venom looks INCREDIBLE. I love what they've done with the character. They stayed really close to the comics, but added the right amount of movie-ness to him. Wow.
