Best movie line of the year!!! It's difficult to criticize what other people find as funny. If you read what MiraJeff wrote, he sounds like a youngin' because he mentioned he was too young to "get" Ali G (what was that , 5 years ago?). I didn't think Wedding Crashers was very funny, but some people do. Then again, I loved Something about Mary, and I'm decades away from being 14. What is the funniest movie of all time, anyway? I think Young Frankenstein, Airplane, or Blazing Saddles would be on the top 10 list, but I also loved Dumb and Dumber, and the Naked Gun 2 was one of the funniest films I had ever seen at the time. Until Borat. Borat, my friends, tops them all. One more thing - what would people here consider to be Peter Sellers' funniest film? The Pink Panther? My favorite Sellers film is Being There, but that's not strictly a laugh out loud comedy.

I like the Bruno character very much, but he's the most one-note of Sacha Baron Cohen's creations. I don't know if that can support an entire film. He's basically taking the piss out of the fashion business (fish, barrel, etc.) with the odd side trip into people's homphobia, but that's it. Only funny in small bursts, I think.

I saw this at the Hollywood premier. I LOVE Ali G and Borat's HBO material. Huge fan. But I was disapointed in this movie. Disapointed in the same way any 2 hr. movie based on a 15 min. skit leaves you. Think of every Saturday Night Live based movie you've ever seen. Not saying it's not good, or not funny. It just doesn't hold a candle to the HBO material. I think if you go in with the right expectations you won't be disapointed. "funniest movie of the year"? well that's not saying much this year. It's definitely worth your while if you're a SBC fan, just don't expect 2 hr.s of the HBO skit.

South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut is the best comedy of the last ten years, as well as the best musical. And Wedding Crashers is funny whenver the Vince Vaughn character is doing anything that doesn't involve having Wilson on the screen. Unfortunately, Wilson is the star of the movie, not Vaughn. Every moment that comedy-killing doofus is on the screen, Wedding Crashers is weak. Anchorman, on the other hand, was comedy gold.

The point of the segments on the show was that Borat woudl do something inappropriate, and you'd chuckle, but more importantly, you'd see normal, everyday people agreeing, or saying despicable things, and THAT'S what made it good. He pointed out other people's ignorance. The film mostly seems to be him doing crazy shit, or being rude or whatever, and that's where the humor is. I don't particularly mind, and I'm still going to see it, and I hope I love it like hell, but hopefully that sort of "integrity" from the show remains. And I hope the upcoming Bruno movie is more than just segments of "Okay, now say 'hi' to everyone on GayTV" "All right, I'll--Wait a second...Gay what!?"

I liked it, I laughed quite a bit. Hoever, I didn't find myself laugh at all the stuff I saw before actually seeing the whole movie. That detracted from the movie for me. I can't say this was a great comedy or best this year. It was certainly genuinely funny and unforced. Which says a lot. I'd also like to point out the Pamela Anderson plot was useless. If not to set up the uproariously hilarious naked fight. They could have used that same scenario different context. Maybe have Azamat mad at Borat for taking too long then blaming Borat for the money problems, hence they duke it out naked. Some parts felt too short, and needed to be extended badly. Overall I give the film an 8.5 out of 10. To show my meter Wedding Crashers I'd give an 8, Airplane a 10, 40 year old virgin a 5, American Pie a 6, Bad Santa a 9, Team America an 8.5, and South Park movie a 10. So say what you will about my tastes, they are all over the place.

Although I can agree that the South Park movie is really, really fantastic, and one of my best movie experiences in the theatre. I really wish they'd make another one in the future.

Thanks for being respectful. I will say I liked "40 Year Old Virgin"'s story and it was funny. I felt that the nearly 2 and a half hour running time bogged it down so horribly. Not only that it went for cheap laughs more times than naught. In essence, Ameircan Pie has also depreciated for me. While in the broad spectrum of comedy it ranks high, it really got old fast so it's a great comedy that is past it's prime. I'd call it a new classic, but not a true comedy classic. South Park is a comedy classic, while 40 year old virgin and american pie are modern tastes, some that I've felt gone stale but still have the funny.

The Rodeo Scene was indeed in VA. and it was filmed a few months back. It took place in one of our Civic Centers. No one had a clue till it was too late. It made the news the next day and it pissed a lot of people off. I found it to be hilarious. Even after it was discovered for a prank the town assumed it was for his show and never thought it was for a movie. A few days ago the local news ran another story on how the Salem Civic Center had meetings and put forth a plan to prevent any future attacks haha. I saw it a few hours ago and the local news team was back at it again interviewing people coming out of the showing. The crowd I saw it with loved it and clapped when they saw our town Punked. Anyways the movie was great.

I have never laughed this hard at a movie, almost choking myself at some points, all the while being completely awestruck at what Cohen has done here. That man is fearless, and brilliant, and because of it we get a movie that is disturbing and gross, insightful and touching, and VERY offensive - to the point where Cohen takes things to such extremes that u can only respect the guy for the sheer audacity and craziness of his skits. And above all, its simply tears-inducingly, breathtakingly, ruthlessly funny. I think it's a comedic masterpiece, nothing less.

I really was not expecting so much of the film to be scripted. Every time it goes away from Borat exposing American foolishness the film loses steam for me and reminds me of the awful Ali G movie not in quality but in tone. What I mean is that it becomes pre-planned schtick, wheras on the show all of Borats quirks seemed to grow organically out of the character, here he starts to feel a bit forced, like Cohen is aiming for the cheap seats. I'm not sure why the naked wrestling is considered the best scene, no wait my cynicism kicked in i know EXACTLY why it is. It's just two naked guys fighting, it's silly and kind of fun but not what the character of Borat has always been about. It's also a clearly planned out situation ahead of time. He also seems to be recycling some of the bits from the show (showing inappropriate pictures to the prudish southerners and attending rich asshole dinner parties), which is fine but I think for the most part it was done better on the show. There are some gems in there though like the ride with those pathetic frat kids (man do you hope they die in a fire), the racist Texas hick rant about shaving the moustache, and the evangelical "saving" ceremony. Those scenes are great because they focus on Borats bread and butter, exposing the lesser among us. I feel the film falters when it deviates from that. maybe if you aren't intimately familiar with the show it's a bit more fresh.

I ddn't say he was wrong with that part. I'm glad it's doing great. Overall, I laughed at almost all the stuff not seen in trailers and online, and didn't laugh at the stuff I've seen of the movie before it. Maybe it was cause I was pissed at not being able to see Borat in person when he came to Columbus, OH the day before the movie opened. This movie is funny, but nowhere near the heights the media and critics and countless theater seat reviewers say it is. It's one of the better comedies THIS YEAR!!!! Not the greatest comedy of all time. Saying that is like saying "The Ring" or "Hostel" is the scariest movie of all time. Sure those movies scared and shocked, but are far from the greatest of all time. Is Borat in my top 10 best of the year, fuck yeah it is, is it #1 hell no. Maybe #4.

I was just quoting what I read from a movie blog - it said there were reports of sold-out shows and people standing to watch shows. I think the people that aren't overly impressed with this film have 2 major obstacles: 1. They have seen too many clips of it beforehand and the jokes don't seem fresh. 2. They aren't seeing it in a packed theater. I saw it in August, and I'd seen the bits from the Ali G show but I was not prepared for what I was about to see on the big screen. The packed, 500+ people filled auditorium that was watching with me were in the same boat, and the laughter was deafening. I'm afraid I'll see it again next week in an empty theater with some friends and they'll be less than impressed. But I've never laughed harder and longer at a movie than when I first saw Borat this summer!

Laurel and Hardy, buster keaton, Harold Lloyd The early works of Jim Carrey, the early works of David and Jerry Zucker, pat proft and Jim Abrahams, of the works of zuker/proft/abarhams(hot shots Part deus is a masterpiece) and the opening of Naked Gun: the smell of fear is the funniest thing i have ever seen. even today more than a decade, it still cracks me up. That scene with Nielsen and the actress who plays who ex-first lady is way beyond brillian. I saw Top secret, even though that is regarded as a classic and didnt find that bit funny, for some reason and I loved MIke Nicholls the bird cage. Azaria and lane were revelations. I thought that was williams finest performance. He should have won the oscar good morning vietnam. The pyhtons stuff has all dated. though the openings are still great. I love the opening for Meaning of life but the film its self is very old and dated but that scene with Mister Cresote: cleese as the waiter(in french) accent: Can i git you anymore? Creosote: no, i am full waiter: would you like a waifer thin mint? Cresote: fuck off. Waiter: ah go on. Cresote: Ill have one then and a bucket Waiter: why a bucket Cresote: I gonna throw up. we all know what happens then after eating the mint.....

Are you supposed to be depressed after seeing this film? I don't know if the rest of the crowd that saw it felt the same way, but I do remember a lot of loud grumbling and a palpable silence when the credits rolled, but I can only speculate as to their true feelings. Didn't sound too hot, though. Cough, cough, OVERRATED, cough, cough...
