THE WORLD NEEDS KIM THAYIL

I'll tell you what's wrong with Chris Cornell...he had 2 awesome solo songs ("Seasons" from the Singles soundtrack and the acoustic version of Soundgarden's Like Suicide), then Soundgarden breaks up, then he puts out a lackluster solo album, then he divorces Susan Silver, then he joins the world's worst "super"group (Audioslave SU-UCKS), then this. Songs written for movies almost always SUCK. This dude is one of the world's best song writers and he's just losing it. He needs to get Kim Thayil, Ben Sheperd (or Hiro Yamamoto), and Matt Cameron (get out of sucky Pearl Jam, doood) and get to tha RAWK. Kim Thayil is on the new SunnO)) and Boris album that came out Tuesday and just makes a wall of wicked noise. IT'S KIM THAYIL THAT YOU NEED CHRIS CORNELL. You don't have to remake the old Soundgarden records, but you do need to get out of that glorified crap-jam band that thinks that they're a hipper Led Zeppelin and you've got to get the hell out of Hollywood. It's poison. Dammit. You were in a REAL band. You need to re-buy all your old Melvins records. I can't over-emphasize the Kim Thayil thing. I can't even find a picture of the dude online that's earlier than 8 years old. He probably metamorphosed into a large stone that's sponsored Mesa Boogie. THE WORLD NEEDS KIM THAYIL.

i mean what's the deal? Chris Cornell is looking like Rodeo Drive trash. Great movie songs: Paul McCartney's Live and Let Die, Madonna's Beautiful Stranger, Guns N' Roses You Could Be Mine, the entire Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey soundtrack, James Rolleston's Feelin' Good from Bad News Bears in Breaking Training, Simple Minds' Don't You Forget About Me, Ray Parker Jr.'s Ghostbuster, and not friggedy this.

...from a promo on my local morning show a few weeks ago. I must admit, I think I like it. It's definitely grown on me. But I've never seen the video and don't plan on doing so. lol And yeah, Mtv's new website design is shit! Everybody should let them know this. It's gone from one of the cleanest, easiest to navigate of the big big big websites to a complete clusterfuck of unecessary flash and advertisements. I've been a regular visitor there for at LEAST 6 years and last week I swore I'd never go there again. Bitches. lol

I don't agree with several of the things you said, but I TOTALLY agree that Chris, Kim and Ben need to get back at it already! If Matt wants to come back, cool. I'm sure he could do it without leaving the PJ, though. I was just listening to the new Audioslave the other day (listening mind you, I don't own it, lol) and it's definitely the best work they've done thus far. But the whole time I was STILL wanting Kim's guitar and Ben's bass to just, like, drop in all of a sudden... but it never happens. :/ Hey yo, Seasons is one of the best songs ever! By anyone. That Singles soundtrack is STILL a damn fine album.

I am cautiously optimistic about this film - I really think Daniel Craig is going to carry it off - and the song is tolerable. However, I don't see how this has got anything to do with Natalie Portmans titties? Can someone explain please - thanks.

They're all wonderful songs, with a Bond sound. The less said about the Brosnan songs the better. Oh and David Arnold sucks. They should have ditched him and Judi Dench when they wiped the slate almost clean.

I must admit, this new Bond song has grown on me, but it's still far from Chris Cornell's best work. I'm a fan, so I'm going to chalk it up to the restrictions of creating a song for a specific film. The Bond fans, I'm sure, don't want to hear about Mr Cornell's black moods and spiritual crises. I do, though, so I'm looking forward to the solo album. Also, this new Bond film.

I'm a bona-fide music dork and i hate audioslave on the basis of pure aesthetics. the lyrics suck, the music sucks, production on their albums suck. there's nothing about that band that's new or awesome. i'm all for the "some folks will dig it, some won't" but i just break that down for this band. it's not that i'm not a fan of chris cornell for this. the dude is capable of better. there's something to having one an era's best songwriters making frat-rawk. maybe he just needs to be that weird dude who once shaved his long hair off and sent it to his first wife because he was bored, or the dude who recorded songs in a closet. some good art came outta that. i'll keep dredging this up because this is a crummy movie song. it's so out of touch that it might as well be on freakin jupiter. there's a problem when more "cool" people like your band than socially awkward teenagers. it's science.

Personally I would’ve been disappointed had they had some Jazz tune playing over Daniel Craig’s Bond ruthlessly beating the shit out of someone in a toilet. It just wouldn't have fit- Bond for the first time since Connery is moving on and this is a big part of it. Either way its still a helluva lot better than Madonna

Are you kidding ? Ok I cant recall listing to "All time high" but the rest of the songs you list with the exception of the pretty good "live and let die" are really awful. Sure they got the typical overblown Bond sound, but thats a bad thing. I guess there really is no reason to discuss it back and forth, its all just a matter of taste anyway.

This song has yet to win me over. I must admit though that the movie is looking better to me, even though Brosnon was my generation's Bond and my favorite of the bunch. Craig's got big shoes to fill. I do like the film's score too-definitely more Bond-like. And I'm a huge fan of many of the Bond themes, including the Brosnon 4. Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Garbage, and yes, even Madonna are responsible of some of my favorite Bond themes. But I find it funny that this season, it looks like it's cool again to hate Madonna when we all know it will be cool to like her again next season.

Audioslave is okay, I own there stuff...its...good. SOUNDGARDEN on the other hand, was the fucking Led Zeppelin of the nineties. When they broke up I was really affected. Music is central to my life and Soundgarden breaking up before I had a chance to see them really sucks my balls. I keep hoping that they will release the unheard stuff that Kim Thayil (THE GUITAR GOD...BOW DOWN BITCHEZ) has mentioned in interviews several times. Here's hoping.

I still don't understand this Daniel Craig bashing!! The guy is a good actor, is very charismatic and I reckon (hope?) he's going to be great. Just check out Layer Cake - very underated flick in which Craig proves he's got the stuff for Bond. Plus, for a start, he's YOUNG enough to be convincing in the action sequences - when was the last time Bond had THAT?! The girls are sexy, the villain is the wicked-cool Mads Mikkelsen (another great actor) - what's not to be excited about? Apart from this lame song, of course. If it turns out to be crap, you can bitch all you want, but until then...relaxxxxxx...you know you're going to watch it anyway!

Merrick is correctamundo. After listening to it, giving it the benefit of the doubt... There is nothing to this song. Vocals are decent, but the lyrics and music are nothing special. I agree with 'CTUmole' that TWINE had the best overall bond theme, but Goldeneye had the best soundtrack. Eric Serra is a soundtrack genius... Also did The Fifth Element. i like the look of this. Some of u people are pussies. The clips in the video look violent and cool as hell. Daniel craig is cool as fuck.. mean, proper dark bond.. are u scared of him or something?. i think he look cool. most girls I know think hes fucking hot and more of a man than most other actors out there combined. The only people I know who hate on him are little nerd boys who like male model boybait. Craig will rock. Casino royale looks good too – classic bond movie but with a dark new edge and a real dangerous actor, some good other actors too. Looks class. . So the song isn’t great.. still better than most other bond songs..i like cornell. Brooding, moody song..grows on u. lot of people hate on a real male rock voice anyway. the look in craigs eyes when he drowns that guy in the bathroom.. your saying that’s bad? That’s the kind of movie I want to see...whats up with the nerd hate? All u haters can fuck off cos I have a feeling this craig guy is going to knock this one out of the park. Watch. Bring it on. Would they be in the ethnic section or the frozen food section? Heh, THIS IS HOW WORTHLESS A TOPIC THIS IS... I AM NOW RESORTING TO DISCUSSING WHAT FOOD ILL BE SHOPPING FOR TONIGHT...

I think its time for a black Bond. I’ve been watching DMX’s career and he’d be perfect!!! Seriously I love the casting of Craig; he’s bringing an edge back to bond. Brosnan looked like the kid in school who you wanted to hit because he was a cheeky twat but you couldn’t because his Dad was the principle or some bullshit. I’m not knocking Brosnan, but more to do how he was used. That said Agent Cody Banks did look like he could beat the living shit outta Brosnan. Craig’s fighting looks raw, nothing fancy like Bourne, just a few deadly moves. The punches hurt. I’ve read the book and it really sets up the character. I wont spoil it but you now understand why he treats woman they way he does, why he’s so gung ho for his queen and country. But this could be the problem, Bond Is NOT Bond yet. He character arc should be played out over 2 or three movies, but people after this movie may be too quick to judge. My only worry is that maybe Craig is not a smooth charmer. Its like Clive Owen, he needs to be a lovable bastard not a bastard but we will see. Back to the music, David Arnold is a genius, His Young American music score is amazing, please track it down, Stargate was fun, but then everything since then has been crap generic and he plagiarises himself. Get Terrance Blanchard (he and the Rza was supposed to do the Blade movie) or get David Holmes to stop scoring as if he was making a wicked Nu Jazz album and he’d be solid. One Love

in some TB's about some subjects, but on the issue of this movie "being pants" I'll be willing to hear your apology after you see it. If you saw Layer Cake [the hit scene in particular] and have read a Bond book you might not be so down on it. Ok, ok, so there's no gadgets. You don't really need a lot of gadgets to be a killer you know. Humans are fragile. I naturally suspect any property this well worn and often misused, but having read all the Fleming books and most of the Gardner books I think this guy can bring back something to Bond he hasn't had since Connery [eh, a little with Brosnan] and that is making Bond a more realistic killer. Your chastising is complete now. Your punishment shall be to imagine Judi Dench and anyone in the sack. ewwwwwwwwwww

While there is plenty of room for a black secret super agent movie [and not the goofy Undercover Brother], you can't be serious about Bond. That'd be like filming the Color Purple with Barbara Streisand in the lead role: it just won't work. And DMX would be ok, especially for a heavy action movie, but for a spy type, how about Adrian Lester from Hustle? I think he could do the spy gig. Or Terrence Howard. That guy could definitely do a spy movie.

When AICN first posted this song, i thought it was interesting and catchy, and after multiple listenings, i really like it. What i found interesting was that this version of the song (the one on the video) was different than the one posted earlier. Weird.

I know a lot of TBer's give you shit about the "news" you guys post but its been almost a full day without any news posted by any of the staff. Are you all on vacation or something? Someone mentioned the Cruise/Wagner/UA deal, that is certainly newsworthy, something that you guys usually have input on, for better or worse, and for us TBer's to talk about. We've alwso found out today that the newest franchise Paul WS Anderson is set to ruin is Castlevania. Certainly that is worth reporting if only to get all of the fanboys riled up. --- Love, Lando

While the notion of a black Bond is not so crazy, the casting of DMX would be horrible. I thought you'd be able to tell that I was taking the piss. However I do remember Brosnan campaigning for the black guy who works with M, could play the next Bond (sorry I can’t remember his name). If I could cast Bond I'd have Ice Cube only joking, Stephan Hawkins.. OK I smoked too much Crack today; I'd love to see Paddy Considine from Dead Mans shoes. But the rest of my post was bout music, which I feel Dave Arnold as been week.

I just realized that the song has a slightly different mix here over this video, including a different vocal take from Cornell. Listening back, it's less extreme than before and the scream at the end is faded down.

Would not appear so suave decked out in a giant basketball shirt handing down to his knees, 6 gold chains, shorts, tennis shoes and a ballcap. Also, getting into a 10 minute long posturing standoff with a henchman over being disrespected would be counterproductive to the mission.

Well, I can say I actually met the guy back in Montreal when he was doing his solo tour, and I have to say that he has more class than 90% of any celebrity out there... He stayed and signed just under 100 autographs. He talked about a bunch of stuff with people not holding back on any questions they asked. I'm glad he was chosen, he has the best voice you can ever hear in this day an age were most singers have backtracks and vocal synths behind them to correct and adjust their voices while they sing. The man his also a great writer, just listen to what he says in his solo and group careers. The song they did for bond is not the best song out there, I admit to that, but it does grow on you. And you have to give him that he had to adjust his style to get a "Bond" felling into it. Still like it. To reply to "damagedinc" first post.. Guess you never were in a real band yourself to wrtie that stuff down on how he needs to go back to Thayil, yes he's great, but after living with the same people around you for so many years and basicaly sharing you life with these guys, you need your space at one point or the friendship deteriorates. Look at Pearl Jam (which you sound like you don't like them...) they do the albums, the tour and then there gone from each others face for a couple of months. It helps to keep that friendship alive. Helps not to get on each others back. You need the space. So him trying the solo thing (of which it was a great album, doesn't mean you only have one or two good singles out there that the album isn't great musicaly and that's what he wanted to do, please himself, not you damagedinc) He brought on friends and they did the whole thing out of one's home (Johaness I think)... That's going back to your roots and what you need to get yourself on track. He might still be great friends with Thayil, maybe we'll see them on a project togheter one day, but right now, he just needed to do his thing, so stop criticizing things you never experience (other than sitting at home thinking you know what a musician feels like because you bought a couple of albums). Your mind goes haywire when everybody is tearing you apart because they recognize you everywhere you go. Sometimes, you just need to do your thing. Other than that, I maybe in the minority here, but I'm glad they changed Bonds in this one, I was getting tired of Brosnan, I just didn't see him as the 007 type. At least Graig looks like he could win a fight if a brawl got out of hand. Dunno... We'll have to give him a chance... Lotsa people didn't like Moore when he took over the roel, yet he became the second favorite after Penn after a couple of movies.

Lets be serious here. This wouldn't fit, any more than a white Shaft would. Why do you want Bond to be black? What purpose would it serve? There's plenty of scope for a Secret Agent who is black, just not Bond. Why? BECAUSE HES NOT BLACK. Why is that so hard for you people to understand? We're not trying to 'keep him white', or 'keep the brothers down' or whatever - it's just that he is WHITE. So what? By making such a f^&king big deal about it, you're the ones coming over as racist. I tell you what, why don't we remake some classic films of yesteryear with Black actors instead? What about Legolas in LOTR? I mean, there's no reason why he can't be black right? What about remaking Das Boot, and casting Eddie Murphy as the f&^king U-Boat captain? I mean that would make sense right? Let me guess - you're going to tell me I'm racist? Don't be ridiculous. Would you cast Nick Nolte as Lois Lane? Why not? Because he doesn't fit the part right? Bingo. Is that sexist?

Ok, you got me thinking about gadgets and I feel a tad hypocritical if you think I had NO love for the gadgets. I confess I owned the Corgi cars for both the Aston-Martin DB-5 from Goldfinger and the Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me. Maybe after they let him take back his killer credentials, some new gadgetry would be acceptable. Just a little more realism is all I ask. As the series evolved, some of the gadgets were on the verge of what Prof. Farnsworth would call a "wild-assed experiment that almost killed me". That includes the Lotus.
