The man is a genius. There are a lot of people who are to stupid to get Borat/Ali G/Bruno or anything else Sacha Baron Cohen does. To those people I suggest you go back and watch some stupid shit like Friends re-runs.

NBC giving 90 minutes every week to Amy Poehler, Will Forte, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Darrell Hammond and Kristin Wiig instead of us is insane. How does NBC make such a stupid mistake??

Also, why does everybody keep making movies starring Bill Murray, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Will Ferrell instead of us? We are SO much funnier than any of those guys!!

... the day Bill Murray replaced Chevy Chase. It has never been funny since and just really sucks now worse than anything!

If they put Mitch Hurwitz in chrage of SNL tomorrow, it would become the highest rated series on television within a month. I never laughed much at "Arrested Development," but it was full of pop-culture references and puns that were easy to recognize, and I think that's what we all consider more important.
Or I should say ...

One more time for the cheapseats. Nobody is saying that the people who post here are funnier than X,Y and Z, and should be given a TV contract, or that SNL should be replaced with a video-feed of the SNL TB. What I said was that I got more entertainment minute-for-minute from reading through the average SNL TB than from watching an actual episode. Still keep up your running gag, everyone has to have something, right? However, I have hopes for this episode as Laurie is a comedy god, although he is probably too polite to reject what is written for him as being crap, so we will have to see what airs.

He says Alonzo Mosley IS unintentionally funny, but that if Smith was ever in a position to hire a comedy writer, he wouldn't hesitate to hire Darthuser and, really, just about every other English-speaking individual on the planet first. He'd also hire quite a few non-English speaking people before he hired you to write anything. It's frickin' ridiculous they couldn't manage to look each other in the eyes, ONCE!

That should be interesting. The last sketch of the season where Fallon left, him and Fey did this whole "Summer Loving" parody, and Hammond is in the back the entire time leaning against a wall, wearing a baseball cap, stirring a cup of coffee. It had me laughing. Also, the only bad thing about this episode (besides the opening sketch) was the lack of Wiig. And will there be no digital short?

Is from a Beck remix release from last year- "Guerlito" and it's got that organic percussion sound, but it's cut with a lot more turntable scratching. Weird not playing a second track from "The Information"-which is pretty fantastic. Great performance by the band and the puppeteers. One of the better SNL's I've seen in years too, sketch-wise. (I only watched it for Beck- can you tell?)

I got on here expecting to see a lot of people saying that this week was even worse than last week. But there seem to be a lot of people that think last night's show was actually funny???? . . .Wow, people on this board really ARE high! . . .The only reason I bothered to stay awake until the end was to see the second Beck performance (which was prety damn good. although was it just me or did Beck get off beat on the transitions between songs? I couldn't tell if that was an accident or on purpose) . . . A sketch about how bad people sing the Star Spangled Banner? What is next, a sketch about how used car salesmen are sleezy and liars? How about one where people blame the weatherman for bad weather coming? Lame and old. . . . The protest song? Good premise, but there was only one joke. It was funny enough the first time he got to the chorus. However, that is the only joke there was. It was just repeated over and over. I needed more. Call me crazy but I wanted jokes and more than a funny premise. . . . Borat did have a good joke about Madonna, but most of it I had already heard - and the only things I know about Borat are the commercials and what I've read on wikipedia. I still look forward to seeing his film where there will be interaction with rubes which seems to be the essence of the character. . . . Overall, maybe they should have cut the number of episodes and hired some writers. . .

haven't watched last night's SNL yet (TIVOed), but was just glancing @ the posts to see what to expect ... and i simply HAD to comment to agree with whoever said above that beck's MIDNITE VULTURES is a misunderstood classic! ... i like and appreciate pretty much everything beck does, but find myself disappointed that he doesn't "re-invent" himself more often, the way he did with every new release as a new artist ... that said, MIDNITE VULTURES is the GREATEST thing he's ever done, i STILL listen to it regularly, and i CAN'T BELIEVE the general accepted critical consensus of the album is that it was a misstep ... hopefully it'll get the PAUL'S BOUTIQUE treatment and be recognized as the groundbreaking masterpiece it is in a few years ...
That Fox News report about Studio 60 is BS
by StealthBeagle
Oct 29th, 2006
10:32:02 AM
That Fox news report is ridiculous because it is just one guy's opinion passed off as fact...I know, as if I should be surprised considering the source. But the headline screams "Studio 60 Cancellation Iminent" but then the actual article states that NBC just ordered three more episodes of the show. And though it isn't airing this week, it has not been yanked in favor of "Friday Night Lights." "Lights" is faring even worse than "Studio 60" so they are trying it out in that time slot once instead of just running the "Studio 60" repeat that was scheduled. But with the recent announcement of NBC's comedy block on Thursdays, I wonder if that could open up a Wednesday slot for "Studio 60?" Tuesday would become another option if "Lights" gets canned, and Sunday becomes a possibility after football season. NBC, PLEASE give this show a real chance!

That was the best SNL I have seen in a long time. When I first the opening skit I thought it was going to be all Borat skits and I was really hyped, seeing Hugh Laurie ticked me off, but overall I was really impressed. Skits I did not like that much, the 2 idiots at the end.. and that was pretty much it. The Robert Smigel cartoon was gold, brilliant! And even the Hardball segment which I normally loathe was palatable. Mike

I dunno, but I watch the show one or twice every season and either I see the only shows that are reeeeeeaaaallllyyyy bad or SNL needs a complete makeover once again... They did it in the 80's and it worked. They need it again. I didn't see this one either, but it's not something I would even like to go "Darn! Missed a god one!"... I just feel that the cast as no star value in them, I don't see them going to stardom. Ferrel is not that bad, some great movies - Anchorman; Old School; and a couple more, but see it's not SNL writers who are doing these movie. The cast and writers seem weak, but that's just my opinion... I'll wait 'till I see "SNL GET NEW PEOPLE!" in the newspapers before I turn them back on a regular basis. 'till then I'm watching the Grass Growing channel...

EVERY YEAR since the second season of SNL, people have been saying "The show sucks this year, but the older episodes were great!" because they forget all the bad sketches in five years and only remember the gems. The thing is that for every Coneheads or Samurai sketch, there was the old-school equivalent of "CAROL!" or "It's Pat!"-- They just don't show those on the reruns anymore. [p] When the 80s cast was there, everybody said "This cast sucks, they aren't as good as the 70s cast- They were awesome!" and then when the 90s came along people said "This cast sucks, they aren't as good as the 80s cast- They were awesome!" --- And so on. Now, in 2009, some of you will be saying "This current cast sucks. They're nowhere near as good as the ones from 2005!" [p] It's always been fashionable to bash SNL, but I'd like to see any one of you losers put on an original sketch comedy show, with only a week to write, rehearse, and build sets, while accommodating a new cast member (the host) each week, for half a year every year.

Yeah .. heard that rumor too.. too bad, I mean the show wasn't bad... If they would've pushed more of the storylines on the characters instead of adding a 3 to 5 minutes scene of the "on air live show" they might have been saved to fight another season, but they didn't. The first episode you could see what was going on in the background of the show which made it very good... I would've ended every show with the 3..2..1.. count and then the "LIVE" sign would light on the the show fades out... This way you don't even show their Studio 60 show, you see the ins and outs which is what attracted me to the show in the first place... But SNL... god I can't wait for them to pull the writers team togheter and tell them that they're out... Get some new cast, get a new director...

Studio 60 vs. Firefly
by StealthBeagle
Oct 29th, 2006
10:45:01 PM
I loved Firefly but that show never had a chance and I don't think comparing it to Studio 60 makes a lot of sense, aside from the fact that they are both great shows with a well-known writer in charge. Firefly had terrible ratings from the get-go...it consistently pulled less than a 3.0. Plus Fox completely gave it the shaft with airing episodes out of order, pulling it off the schedule, etc. Is Studio 60 in trouble? Maybe. But in NBC's hands it has a lot better shot at eventual success than Firefly ever did with Fox.

This year of SNL is awful and to actually read some posts that SNL is funny...really, seriously people - it's not. The only thing funny about the last SNL was Borat. Whether you love him or hate him, he knows what it takes to market his movie and he's doing it brilliantly. I was really looking forward to seeing what Hugh Laurie could bring to the show but it was very disappointing. It just shows that his humor and experience is too smart for the SNL writers. It takes a combo of the writers and the actors and this year is not mixing well. Some may not like what Tina Fey brought to the series but at least her updates, with both Jimmy and Amy, were always funny. And you have to admit, even though there were hit or miss sketches, at least there were more to laugh at than this year. The sketches this year are nothing but one-joke-notes that the writers seem to want to stretch and stretch and strech. Not sure if it's because Seth Myers or a new batch of writers but something has got to change - fast. Can anyone remember how Tina did on her first year? Maybe Seth is having a rookie and year and needs to establish the right groove. Until then, we may have to suffer. And the some of the actors don't help by obviously looking at cue cards and not the actors, it's very distracting and takes away from the humor. There's potential in the this year's actors even though they've lost 3 really talented memebers. But if the writing continues to flouder, SNL is in seriously trouble.

NBC is about to cancel Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, one of the most hyped shows of the fall season, FoxNews.com columnist Roger Friedman reported Sunday, citing unnamed insiders. Although the network announced last week that it had ordered three additional scripts, and top executives continued to praise the quality of the show, cast members have reportedly told friends that cancellation is imminent, the cable news network said. Ratings for the show, from producer-writer Aaron Sorkin, continue to slide, with last week's audience tallied at 7.7 million versus 17.5 million for CBS's CSI: Miami in the same time period. Fox said that the show will likely be replaced with a reality series or game show.
