I like this Nightmare Before Christmas very much, and I watch it every year while wrapping presents. It's a festive Marmoset tradition. My favourite is What's This?, but I notice on the Amazon that Fall Out Boy have covered that one, which is a shame. I don't like the Fall Out Boy. Not at all.

Their cover for "Kidnap The Sandy Claws" sounds so very their own. Usually when you have covers they resemble the original song, not so here. It's by far my favorite track on disc two. A Synthpop fan. By the way, Best Buy is selling the set with two exclusive tracks; the demos for "Town Meeting Song" and "What's This?".

Marilyn Manson is doing a cover! I never in a million years would have seen that one coming. This guy is the most unoriginal "artist" out there. The most shocking thing about him is that people used to be offended by his cheeseball act.

But when I see it, I'm just enthralled. It is so well done, with a fantastic premise, and the songs are really well done. A great movie.

Not a fan of Manson. The 'This is Halloween' sequence in the movie did give me goosebumps when I first saw it, but the song itself reminds me of something a nine year old would write. The music in the film only goes uphill from there.

Is trite, derivative and devoid of talent. Putting him into the same room as Danny Elfman is a travesty on par with greedo shooting first. ANYONE who thinks Marilyn Manson is even MILDLY talented is WRONG AS TWO BOYS FUCKING ON THE WHITE HOUSE LAWN. For an example of WHY Marilyn Manson is so worthless, listen to the David Bowie album "Scary Monsters"...if after listening to that you still think MM has anything even resembling talent, KILL YOURSELF. TO: Wiseblood...Bowie is cool, but he too had "influences" - Syd Barrett, The Beatles, Chuck Berry, Marc Bolan, Bob Dylan, Al Green, The Kinks, Kraftwerk, Anthony Newley, Pink Floyd, The Pretty Things, The Rolling Stones, The Spinners, The Velvet Underground, Scott Walker, The Who. TO: vivavitalogy...Manson always said his style is more in the tunes of skinny puppy, I guessed you don't remember that one. But since I will not argue taste, let's just say a certain Brian Eno kicks everyone's ass (in MY OPINION). Right =}

This isn't about originality it's about talent. Skinny Puppy was the first Slipknot (if you don't know what I mean then never mind, it's a slam). And by the way Eno does kick behind.

His albums are all basically the same with the exception of Mechanical Animals. He really shines when he's not doing music. His book was a really creepy and thoughtful read, his character in Party Monster was a highlght of that movie, and even his appearance on Bowling for Columbine made people think "huh. He's actually resonably intelligent." You can hate on him all you want but don't just dismiss his abilities because you don't like him. Now that he's 10 years past the Antichrist Superstar days, I'd like to see what a more mellowed version of Brian Warner hs in store for us. I haven't heard this cover yet but considering his hilarious and brilliant cover of Justify My Love, it's worth a listen. Besides, doesn't anyone remember the Food Pyramid song from the short lived MTV cartoon Clone High?

Obviously Bowie had influences...but an influence is a far cry from someone that you blatantly RIP OFF... and MM is a RIP OFF... the first time I heard that first bullshit from marilyn manson I thought...Oh god...not another NIN album... I was actually making fun of it and my friend informed me that it was MM... Once again, MM is weak and shouldn't be allowed to wash Danny Elfmans jock

What pisses me off about Manson
by Monkey Butler

Is that he's very one-note in a lot of his work. He wanted to play Willy Wonka, because it's a kids' story, but Manson knows the true story and Wonka was supposed to be demented and creepy and "gothic". Then he wanted to do a version of Alice in Wonderland, and again, that was a kids' story, but Manson knew better - he would make it "gothic" and demented and fucked up, because isn't that just so bad-arse, because it's meant to be a kids' story. See what I'm getting at? "Subverting" kids' stories doesn't make you bad-arse or fucked up or anything, it's just lame.

I saw the film in 3D today, and the opening voiceover remains exactly the same. You can only hear the (longer) Patrick Stewart version of the narration on the soundtrack CD. The only thing they changed in the film was omiting the Touchstone Pictures logo at the beginnig for Walt Disney Presents.

Brian Warner is the lead vocalist and lyricist. The rifts, drumbeats, and techno vibes are performed by others. So if you're going for "Sounds like", then Brian must not targeted simply because you have a thing against him. Most of the MM's band best songs were never singles. And I'm interested in watching Brian score music, because his Resident Evil soundtrack was alright.

The Brothers Grimm didn't subvert traditional German children's stories, they compiled and them and merged different tellings, in all their violent, demented glory. The original version of Rapunzel reads like a Clive Barker story. The turning of traditional children's stories into "horror" visually by making all the female characters look like suicide girl models and giving all the animals the mange and sharp, pointy teeth is what I think Wiseblood is objecting to.

So you hate Manson, that's fine. Your vocal about it, that's fine. I can even agree with you that his music isn't nearly as listenable as other bands out there (TG, SP, KMFDM, ect), but surely someone of your taste and intelligence can at least have a better view than "Listen to the David Bowie album "Scary Monsters"...if after listening to that you still think MM has anything even resembling talent, KILL YOURSELF." Scary Monsters is brilliant and contributes to our culture better than any of Mansons albums that's true, but you HAVE to have at least an iota of talent to be in the position Mansn is now, being talked about on a TB after a 10+ year career. I stand by what I said before about he does everything else better than music. In the meantime I'll actually listen to Ministry for someone who does it better.

I agree...MM does have an iota of talent, I just don't see it as being talent in songwriting. His talent, in my estimation, is in creating hype where none exists by wearing scary make up and saying calculatedly offensive things. Even his spoutings on the occult are derivative and based more in high school level bullshit than any serious hermetic or magickal understanding. If that's the criteria upon which one decides to engage in music, fine. All I'm saying is that it doesn't make him worth a crap musically. And I stand by my statement that he should have his kneecaps blown off with a shotgun for even being in the room with Danny Elfman.

Look at the writing credits on his albums. He is (on most songs) solely credited. Which means he wrote (or in my estimation, plagiarized) EVERY THING. Programming, drum beats, guitar and bass lines, keyboards, all of it. And performing something is a very different consideration than writing the part. I write the bass lines for my band, because our bass players writing skills SUCK (sorry Bob...you know its true) so in the credits on our cds I am given the writing credit, along with our drummer who writes most of the lyrics and occasionally some of the guitar parts. However, Bob is a fucking BADASS bass player and plays the lines I write beautifully, but if the bass line sucks, its MY fault, not Bob's because I wrote the bass line.
